Pakistan's young guns put in a brave performance against the Thailand U-21's but failed to register a result in their first game of their fortnight long Thai tour.

From what FPDC's International Correspondent learned through sources in Thailand, the team played well with Vice Captain Rizwan Asif putting in a man of the match performance.

The Thai team scored twice in the first half as Amir Gul kept goal for the Green Shirts in the opening 45 minutes.

After the interval Coach Tariq Lutfi brought on Internationally based Yousuf Butt having brought on Irfan Khan at 41' with both impressing much. Irfan Khan played aggressively and broke down the Thai mid-field's passing game. The Bradford Star helped in Jadeed Khan's goal which gave Pakistan a chance to get something out of the game. Jadeed's finish was an accurate shot beating the Thai number 1 all square on his goal-line.

Attacking Mid-Fielder Rizwan Asif made some impressive runs throughout the game and was instrumental in creating opportunities for Pakistan.

Yousuf Butt kept a second half clean sheet, not letting any shot go past him into the Pakistan net and organized the defence brilliantly and gave them confidence and cues from the back.

All in all the result is really positive considering the Asian Games team lost to Thailand 6-0. But still all that matters really is the result and Mr. Lutfi and the boys will need to master a turn around in fortunes so that their target of defeating Malaysia in Olympic Qualifying is realized. The Pakistani team plays two more friendlies in Thailand before heading off to Kuala Lampur.

Olympic team held in warm-up
Quote
The Thai Olympic side could only draw 2-2 with Turkmenistan in a warm-up match at Supachalasai stadium yesterday.

Thailand took the lead twice only for the visitors to get an equaliser on both occasions.

The Thais dominated for long periods before Krirkrit Taweekam opened the scoring after 38 minutes. Orazsahedov Vahyt equalised for Turkmenistan in injury time as the first half ended with the score at 1-1.

Thailand restored the lead after 68 minutes when Chalermsak Kaewsuktae scored from the penalty spot after Tanat Jantaya was fouled in the area.

The advantage was short-lived as Amanov Arslanmyrat pulled level four minutes later.

Thailand also drew 2-2 with Turkmenistan in a warm-up before last year's Asian Games. The Thais then beat them in the second round at the Asiad in Guangzhou.

Thailand coach Charnwit Phalajivin rued his men's missed chances and said the strikers must improve their finishing.

"We had several chances but our strikers lacked sharpness. If our strikers had been sharper, we would have won," Charnwit said.

"We conceded the two goals on the counter-attack, and this is another point we have to improve."

Thailand will begin their Olympic qualifying campaign against Palestine in Bangkok in the first leg of the preliminary round on Feb 23. The second leg will take place next month.

While Thailand are heavy favourites against Palestine, Charnwit warned his men not to underestimate any team.

That's nothing new. But only in unofficial friendlies and test matches.

Thailand kick off Olympic qualifiers without No 1 keeper
Quote
National coach Chanwit Pholcheewin yesterday tried to play down the significance of firstchoice goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan's mysterious absence from the Olympic squad's preparation for the firstround qualifier against Palestine today.

The Thais trained on the eve of the match, to be held at Supachalasai stadium, without the Muang Thong United player, leaving Chanwit with only one keeper.

Muang Thong coach Carlos Carvalho, who was at training yesterday, said the national keeper was nursing a wrist injury but would join the Thai squad for the second leg.

Chanwit, however, said he was happy with the players at his disposal and would have no qualms in fielding the littleknown Ugkrit Wongmeena between the posts.

"I have already talked with Muang Thong about Kawin. I'll inform them later that he will be on the bench for the game.

"I want to move forward on the issue, as I don't want any distraction from what is an important game for us," said Chanwit.

However, team manager Kasem Jariyawatwong did not rule out Kawin's chances of playing in the match, as he felt the Thais needed to establish a healthy advantage ahead of the return leg.

"Ugkrit is nursing a bruised hip. We had no choice but to field him first because Kawin didn't train with team. However, should the inexperienced Ugkrit aggravate his injury or show nerves, we will call on Kawin.

"We need to win by at least two goals otherwise we will have a tough task in the second leg," said Kasem.

Worawi Makudi, the Football Association of Thailand president, who visited the training camp to lend his support to the squad, said he would not interfere in the Kawin issue.

"It's a matter for the coaching team to deal with.

"Anyway, we have to win tomorrow, and I believe we will, regardless of the Kawin issue."

NBT channel will broadcast the match live from 6pm.

Thailand scrape narrow win
Quote

Thailand players celebrate the winning goal by Patchya Narat, obscured, at Supachalasai stadium .

Thailand could face a tough task in the return leg in the West Bank after they managed only a 1-0 win against Palestine in a preliminary round tie of the Olympic qualifying at Supachalasai stadium last night.

Patchya Narat scored the winner after 42 minutes as the Thais squandered numerous chances.

Thailand dominated for long periods in wet conditions and should have won by a much larger margin.

Thailand's first chance came in the very first minute when Chananan Pombupha's shot was cleared by the Palestine defence.

A-nan Pokklaw beat the offside trap and went clear but he sent his shot over the bar after 27 minutes. Moments later Chananan also saw his attempt sail over the bar.

Thailand broke the deadlock when Chananan's cross found Patchya who slotted the ball home from close range.

While the Thais were dominant, Palestine also came close to shock the home team. K.H. Salem caused trouble for the Thai defence on several occasions but failed to send the ball into the back of the net.

Thailand attacked from the start in the second half in an attempt to finish off the tie. Patchya failed to convert several chances, Chalermsak Kaewsooktae's free-kick was denied by Palestine goalkeeper T. Abuhammad.

But in the final 10 minutes, Palestine were the better side with Salem just missing a tap-in.

"We played much better than Palestine," said Thailand coach Charnwit Phalajivin.

"We had several chances but failed to get a second goal. But one goal is fine."

He added: "We have to improve our scoring. In the second leg, Palestine may be under pressure because they will have to attack and this could give us space at their back."

Palestine coach Mokhtar Tlili said his team had been in Bangkok for just 48 hours before the match and his players were still tired during the game.

"We don't have a big stadium like this so the players were not familiar with playing in such a big stadium. The time difference of five hours also affected our players. The wet conditions made it difficult for us to play," he said.

"Thailand are a good team but we still have a chance in the second leg."

The second leg match will take place at Faisal Al-Husseini stadium Al-Ram, West Bank on March 9. It will be the first-ever official international match in Palestine.

Palestine 1-0 Thailand (1-1 aet, 5-6 pens)
Quote

West Bank: Palestine’s first international qualification match on home soil ended in heartbreak as they went down 6-5 on penalties in the second leg of their 2012 Olympics first round qualifier to send the Thais through to the next qualification phase.

Palestine went into the historic match at the Faisal Al Huseni Stadium – which was attended by AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam – a goal down from the first leg after Narat Patchya’s 43rd minute strike in Bangkok giving the Thais a slender lead.

But the Thais advantage was cancelled out shortly before half-time, with midfielder Abdulhamid Abuhabib writing his name in Palestinian football folklore by scoring his country’s first international qualification goal in Palestine in the 45th minute.

Palestine were handed a further boost in the 68th minute when Thailand were reduced to ten men with the sending off of Theerathon Bunmathan but the home side couldn’t capitalise on their numerical edge and the game went into extra-time.

Neither side could find the net in the additional half-hour of football sending the tie into a penalty shootout, where Seeket Madputeh emerged the hero for Thailand by netting the decisive spot-kick.

Thailand join ten other Round 1 winners and the 13 highest ranked teams (based on the qualifiers and tournament proper at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing) in the Olympic Football Tournament London 2012 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 draw, which takes place at AFC House on March 30 .

Let's hope that we can do better than just playing close games when facing opponents of this caliber. There is no secret to how Bahrain played and can play, it is about how ready and what we will have to change things around as our patterns of producing 1-1, 1-0 or 0-1 results while appear to be the best of AFF teams by virture of numbers subsequently never amount to progress beyond the sereenity of warm sea water along white-sand beach. Beat some worthy opponents in and open and unfriendly sea to truely declare ourself the reaal worriors.

According to a source within the Palestinian FA the AFC will reverse the result of the Palestine-Thailand qualifier because the Thai FA presented fake documents to register one of their players illegally (the player was on the bench for the return leg). The source asked for his name not to be given.

Bahrain are due to play the Palestine instead of Thailand in the upcoming playoff in bid to reach next year's London Games.

The Thais, who defeated the Palestinians 5-4 on penalties in the first round of the qualifiers, were eliminated from the competition by Asian Football Confederation's Disciplinary Committee after introducing a suspended player during the second-leg tie held in West Bank on March 9.

Thailand won the first leg 1-0 on February 23 in Bangkok, but lost in the second, held for the first time in the occupied Palestine, with an identical score for a 1-1 aggregate.

Both teams then went to play the penalty shoot-outs and it was the visitors who emerged victorious to set up Bahrain's second round playoff.

But a banned Thai player, who travelled with his team for the return leg held at Faisal Al Husseini's Stadium in West Bank, cost Thailand dearly.

Sadly for Thailand fans who are powerless in the matter leading to unpresidented disappointment. What else can be said of FAT as directly or indirectly the incident leading to thid predigament nevertheless is in it's resposibility. Thai people are known of being forgiving even when mistake are made and excuses are offer in the most redicous manners. Worawi and his cronies are so deep into their selves-elusion and will never admit to the severity of their incapability to manage modern days football program where by up to date, look ahead and right man for the right job are essentially required. Sadly too, for Chanvit whose football knowledge of 40 years in a designated pond seemingly equilavent to no more than water collected in an old half coconut laying by a remote side-walk. An opportunity of redeeming himself has technically disintegrated that if he and his superiors would honor professionalism and integrity of a magical word otherwise known as 'work' in which collectively they had no idea!

Despite this frustration , AFC , AFF websites and other famous English newspapers in Thailand like The Nation , Bangkok Post haven't confirmed it yet . Still have a faint hope ...

If the ban is upheld, My heart really go out to the players, especially, the one quoted by the article as costing Thailand dearly. If he had been made to be aware of the consequences I am sure he wouldn't have taken the trip. I've heard also that coach Chanvit had already been resigned citing his obligation with courses he has to take as a career advancement in his regular public servance position. I didn't even aware of the fact that he is a double dipper to say the least. My speculation is that the potential disqualification may have played a role into his resigning. Meanwhile FAT managed to cover the elligation form spreading from AFC to AFF to the Thai public successful at least for now while they probably are scrambling trying to have the decision overturn. The team is scheduled to gather in two days in preparation for the first leg with Bahrain. Would they be communicating with players to make them aware of the situation, one can only guess at this point. Would players feel betray one way or another?

AFC still listed Thailand Olympic Football team as being the opponent of Palestine in the second round of London Games second round qualification on its website. Meantime, for the second consecutive issues that the Gulf Daily News has posted on their website indicating that Bahrain will play Palestine at home instead of Thailand on June 19 and a return leg in Palestine on June 23. In Thailand, players and fans are expecting the team representing the Kingdom will move on to play Bahrain as a result of the two legs the team they are playing for and supporting registered officially and publically. The development with hope and national pride are at stake of this caliber should have been made buplic as a mean of not allowing false hope to ligering in the air to only has it dissintigrated at the moment chosen by insincerity practice eventual. If the eligation of Thailand Olympic team being disqualified is true, AFC should be upfront with Thailand fans as a matter of showing a sincere respect or clarify it.

If the eligation is of false information, AFC Media Relation should then take action with the Gulf Daily News for missleading the public in its publication that millions of football fans are affected.

Finally, Thailand Olympic team under the pressure from media came out and admitted
that they have received letter from AFC.

Sadly, they had called players to the training camp on May 2nd only to deliver the news and told them to go home.

Yes , Finally this news has been confirmed

Thailand facing Olympic ban
Quote
Thailand have been booted out from the Olympic qualifying round for fielding an ineligible player, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) confirmed yesterday.

Thailand defeated Palestine 5-4 on penalties in the first qualifying round for the 2012 Olympics after the Thais won 1-0 in Bangkok and Palestine triumphed by the same scoreline in the return leg in the West Bank.

Thailand were scheduled to meet Bahrain in the second qualifying round but the media in that country reported last week that Bahrain were preparing to face Palestine instead of Thailand.

The reports said the Thais were eliminated from the competition by the Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) Disciplinary Committee because they introduced a suspended player in the first leg against Palestine.

FAT secretary-general Ong-art Korsinkha confirmed yesterday that the AFC had informed the FAT that Thailand were eliminated from the Olympic qualifying round for fielding Sucharit Chanthakul against Palestine in Bangkok."We have been formally informed by the AFC about the matter," Ong-art said.

Sucharit faced suspension during the U19 Asian Championship in 2008 and according to the AFC he had not yet served the ban before the Olympic qualifying match.

Ong-art argued that Sucharit was in the Thai squad at last year's Asian Games but did not play and this could mean that he had already served his suspension.

Also, the match commissioner at the Bangkok game should have informed Thailand during the pre-match meeting that Sucharit was ineligible, he said.

"We are appealing," Ong-art said.

He said FAT president Worawi Makudi was in talks with AFC president Mohamed bin Hammam .

Still conducting business like it is at home, after all this?  What talking to Bin Hammam gonna do when the decision was made by the AFC Disciplinary 'COMMITTE'? It'll probably be safe to say that there would be no consequence to this costly mistake despite most of individuals responsible if not all were on a paid duty. I understand that the same thing had happen to Thailand Olympic team before(not certain). Some of local fans said Thailand had to foefeited the results against India 4 years ago and was disqualified.

AFC official must take blame , says Worawi
Quote

Thai football chief Worawi Makudi attacked the Asian Football Confederation yesterday saying the ruling body must take the blame for the Kingdom's use of a suspended player leading to the country being kicked out of the 2012 Olympic qualifying round.

In the first round of the Olympic qualifying, Thailand defeated Palestine on penalties after the Thais won 1-0 in Bangkok and lost by the same scoreline in the West Bank.

However, the AFC informed the Football Association of Thailand last week that the Kingdom were eliminated from the competition for fielding an ineligible player in the Bangkok match.

The player, Sucharit Chanthakol, received a one-match suspension during the U19 Asian Championship in 2008.

Worawi, who is also an executive member of both the AFC and world's football governing body Fifa, said normally the match commissioner of a game must inform the two sides of their suspended players but the official in the Olympic qualifying match did not.

"It was the match commissioner's mistake and not Thailand's," said Worawi.

Thailand argue that Sucharit has already served the ban because he was in the Thai squad at the 2010 Asian Games but did not play.

But the AFC says the Asiad's football tournament is organised by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and not the AFC.

Worawi said the AFC's explanation was "unacceptable" saying the Asian Games' football tournament is supervised by the AFC. He said he would meet AFC president Mohammed Bin Hammam next week to seek his help.

If bin Hammam fails to lend a helping hand, Thailand will appeal, Worawi said.

"We will fight till the end although it is difficult for us to win," he said .

Fighting to the end... C'm on, Worawi, the end is already here! The end of your association with Thailand football that is. Haven't you done enough damages already? Failure in every categories. Please do not bring up Vision Asia as your defense either as the program is nothing but an illustration the lack of football manageerial abilitiy of FAT. With a large pool of fans  potential players but the lack of necessary knowledge, imagination, operational creativity and even simply ability to follow conventional protocol that lead to program such as Vision Asia to assist braindead football managers.

FIFA OVERRULE FA THAILAND APPEAL
Quote
BANGKOK (5 May 2011) – FIFA have overruled the appeal by the FA of Thailand (FAT) against their forfeiture from playing in the second round of the 2012 Olympic Games.

FAT were adjudged by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee to have fielded an ineligible player – Sutjarit Jantakol – in the first leg Olympic qualifiers when they beat Palestine 1-0 on 23 February in Bangkok.

Sutjarit had been suspended after picking up a one-match suspension for violent conduct in the AFC U-19 Championship in 2008 which he has yet to serve.

And while Thailand might have beaten Palestine on penalties (1-1 aet; 6-5) in the second leg on 9 March, the infringement has forced FIFA to rule against the FAT.

The ensuing appeal from the FAT was overruled by the FIFA Appeals Committee where consequently, the match was awarded 3-0 to Palestine, who now qualify for the second round of the qualifiers with an aggregate 4-0 win over Thailand.

As such, Palestine will replace Thailand in the second round of the Asian qualifiers of the men’s Olympic Football Tournament 2012 where they will face Bahrain.

The first leg will be on 19 June with the return tie four days later .

It must have a Nehru's Curse.  In 2009 when, I land earlier promised to send 'A' team to play against India in the tournament opening match. But India found out from the roster list that the team was Thailand U19 then. Eventaully, India decided to have Palestine replace Thailand. Palestine will be in another program from the gulf region Thailand will have to face in year to come considering 8 top nootch players from Gaaza Strip were held by Israel from joining olympic squad and that Israel is considering the change in policy.
