Here we go then. I will be more involved in the forum this year. My work commitments are much less than before.

We all have our favourite teams so to say "Who will win the league?" would be a bit silly as MTU,Chon Buri and PEA fans would all say their own teams.

So whoever you cheer who do you look at as the main threat?

It's too tough to call just now. There are still 3 (4 for some clubs) weeks until the season starts. A lot of comings and goings could happen in this time. I'll wait until nearer the opening games before I cast my prediction.

It will almost certainly be a 3 horse race between MTU, PEA and Chonburi. Bangkok Glass could be a dark horse but probably need another couple of signings before they can be considered title challengers.

Tero could be a dark horse, too. Particularly if SRS's Ekkaphan rumour is true.

I don't fall in to any of those groups, but can I be silly anyway and name 'my' teams?

Khon Kaen for the TPL, Bangkok FC for Div 1, Kamphaengphet and Korat for their Regional Leagues.

Seriously, from last year's contenders, I think PEA are favourites, Chonburi should be strong again, as both have the bulk of last year's squads.

MTU and Tero will be interesting. A lot has been made of Tero practically starting from scratch, but I saw a picture of MTU's new boys yesterday, and there's a starting XI there. How quickly these new players settle in will be crucial. Not too sure what BG have done in the off-season, but they have the resources to be there or thereabouts. Port have lost a few players, but should be ok, and remain just outside that top group.
I'm also really interested in how TTM's Korean experiment works out. Of course, there's a lot of Koreans throughout the leagues this season. Korea seems to be the new Japan.

At the other end, TOT, Samut Songkram and Navy seem to have had difficult off-seasons, which could well affect performances. That's good news for the promoted sides, as well as the rescued ones.

Dale and I are putting together a preview (well OK, a chat) for Sunday's game and I will expand on my predictions and reasons then, though Wolfie has just stolen some of my thunder.

For now I will just say I think PEA will win the league. But last season I predicted Bangkok Glass :-)

Hate to say it but I'm plumping for Buriram PEA. I think my team BG will make a better attempt this year but still fall short.. 3rd at best maybe. I'm happy we didn't go crazy with signings but I think most teams have been more sensible with their transfers this off season, so I fully expect MTU & Chonburi to be there or there abouts also. The dark horse is Tero who could finish anywhere between 4th and 14th, depending on how their virtually brand new squad gel. Thai Port will also be dangerous no matter how many players they have lost.
At the other end, I will be over the moon if Chiangrai United stay up, but I'm not sure they will.

Anyway. What about You MuangChon, what're your thoughts?  Cheesy

What about Division 1?
If Buriram win it opens a whole can of worms and potentially disastrous COIs.
I think Songkhla or PTT will win it.

D2 I don't know about every region but I really like the chances of Nonthaburi FC.

I will eat my shirt if Tero finish above MTU. It's beyond me why so many people think they will do well. I think they'll be fifth at best.

Well considering they finished 9th out of 16 teams in 2010, then a fifth place finish out of 18 teams in 2011 suggests that you agree with those who think Tero will do well.

If Worawi gets his wish for a 20-team division in 2012 then we could be looking at only one to be relegated again – as Loko pointed out. So I wouldn't worry about Chiang Rai, BGB. Siam Navy, TOT, Khon Kaen are all likely to be weaker than Chiang Rai.

1) PEA
2) MTU
3) BG
4) Chonburi
5) Tero
6) Thai Port

I think Div 1 is wide open now 4 top teams are gone, and only Bkk Utd have come down. There wasn't much between the likes of Air Force, Chula, Customs, and Songkla. PTT have strengthened, and at least 2 of the promoted sides have cash behind them.

I'll tip Chula to win it, based on their strong 2nd leg last year, Zico, and retaining Chainarong Tatong.

Div 2 can be a lottery at times, so I'll just stick with supporting my two sides.

Yeah, Div 2: who can say? From our division – and I say this without any sense of boasting – we're title favourites. Roi-Et, Nong Khai and Yasothon are expected to be strong, and of course there's Loei. We wait to see how much two failed play-off campaigns have taken out of the club psychologically and financially.

Don't get me wrong, I like Tero and the players they signed from us are very good, just not quite regular first team standard for us (except Jetsada).
"Well" is obviously a relative term and when I say I don't think they will do well, I mean they won't finish above us. But yes, finishing 6th or 7th would still be very respectable and an improvement.

1. PEA (by a mile)
2. BG
3. MT (too many changes - mind you I said Man Utd would do well to finish 3rd this year in the EPL, and expected my team Leeds to be in the relegation scrap in the champo - so what do I know)
4. Chonburi
5. Port

My beloved Pattaya (aka Chonburi reserves) should hold a solid mid-table position I hope - 9th?

binnsy, if you had thicker skin, you'd have noticed that what little has been written about the football has tended to be favourable to PEA. Therefore I'm not that surprised. Chonburi don't seemed to have stengthened that much, and MTU have had a big turnover, while PEA have been fairly stable.

Buriram PEA released two proven goalscorers Pipat and Suriya and Kirati maybe off to Leicester for training but no one has come in.
MTU were only releasing fringe players.Have signed the best striker in the TPL and a couple of defenders from Europe.

You make good points, binnsy. But siging Europeans can go either way in Thailand. They can take to it like a duck to water (Byrne) or they can't (Gotken). Only time will tell how good MTU's foreign signings are, though Anon is obviously an excellent signing.
Whatever else I may think, I concede the people behind PEA are certainly not stupid. Winning the TPL is surely their absolute dominant priority this season and I'm sure they know what their doing regarding the squad. Maybe big signings to come?

I too think PEA will win. Chon Buri and Muang Thong don't seem to be doing much to keep up.

Would be nice to see a couple of teams pushing hard. Maybe Bangkok Glass or even Tero.

The bottom of the table will be quite interesting this year with a handful of teams looking solely at survival.

You don't think signing the most prolific striker of the last three seasons, Bangkok United's player of the year, Police United's player of the year and a Thai international, a Finnish international with nearly fifty caps, a player that's played in all 4 of England's top divisions, signing a deal with Athletico Madrid, signing the highest valued manufacturing deal in Thailand, laying a ten million baht new turf along with stadium renovations is enough effort then? :-)

I'm not saying it's amazing, but I think it's harsh to say we're not doing much.

I think the TPL/FAT need to use common sense. If the protests are occurring nowhere near where matches are taking place and don't interfere with fans' and teams' ability to travel then no matches should be postponed.

"a Finnish international with nearly fifty caps, a player that's played in all 4 of England's top divisions,"

I honestly wouldn't get too excited about Kallio -in his career in England he played only 12 games in 3 years - at best he was a 2nd/3rd choice left back at Sheff Utd. At 33 he's not going to have much pace left though it sounds like he's a  good tackler. I think people are looking at the quality of previous MTU imports and that's why they feel they may not quite be up to last year. Only time will tell!!

I don't think that was the point though. The previous European imports at MTU consist of errr...Berkant!

It was the same to be said about Sami Hyypiä when he joined Leverkusen. But after a half season he was rated as one of the best defenders of the league. Not of it's pace, rather than he know where and when he have to be at the right place. Sorry cant put it any better than that.

Was going to post something similar closer to time, but you've beaten me to it.
Where are you going to be on opening day?

* We know binnsy and rossi (and of course, PEA) have a date at Tero v PEA.
* I plan to go to Bangkok FC vs Rajpracha - non- Nontaburi Thailand for what may or may not be a 'home' game for both teams, should anyone want to meet up.

Others?

* I plan to go to Bangkok FC vs Rajpracha - non- Nontaburi Thailand for what may or may not be a 'home' game for both teams, should anyone want to meet up.

Others?

Surin v Korat!  Cheesy (if the SAT cough up and the season kicks off on time)
I'll also be at Thailand v Palestine olympic qualifier on Feb 23rd.

Hi guys.I have just had a look at the early season fixtures and would like to know your suggestions on which games would be worth going to at the start of the season.I see on the forum some of you guys are maybe going to meet up i would be interested in that as i travel to games on my own.

I saw you said you're currently in Pattaya so I was going to mention that I'll be at Pattaya v BG on the 12th as Glenn will be also, forgetting however that Pattaya Utd wont be in Pattaya.

Most likely Chonburi, but it's not to far so if you're about give me a shout.

I'll also be at Air Force Utd the day after.

At 33 he's not going to have much pace left

It was the same to be said about Sami Hyypiä when he joined Leverkusen. But after a half season he was rated as one of the best defenders of the league. Not of it's pace, rather than he know where and when he have to be at the right place. Sorry cant put it any better than that.

You mean his positioning is good. Don't worry, I wouldn't have a clue how to say it in German :-)

Have any other details about that match come out, apart from date and opponent?

Not as far as I know. Really hoping it's not at Rajamangala.

"Thanks Vinnie, At the present time i am staying with some friend in Pattaya .Have not decided where to locate to just yet."

You're already in the best place - support the Dolphins- never a dull moment!! However our games for much/maybe all of this season will be played around 50km away - the other side of Chonburi. See told you it would be fun. However I have a lot of mates travelling from Pattaya and the club are running buses until they go broke which is usually half way through the season. Which ever team you decide to follow in the TPL- enjoy.

Financially though a move up to Buriram makes sense  you'll get free shirts, free transport, free food and free dancing lessons!!!

I predict that the 2011 TPL will be won by the team that accumualtes the most points over the course of the season.

So not necessarily the best team? Wink
