I agree with Loko - I don't like this orchestrated chanting and cheering. However, PEA aren't the only ones who do it in this league.
At all, for you english guys, this may be something totally new and therefore I can understand how strange it may be to you. For me, it isn't . We do have this Ultra culture in Germany since the mid 90's. BUT and that is the point, it is not a whole stand or a whole stadium doing orchestrated chanting and cheering. There are alot of Clubs in Thailand, don't doing it and do it in a way I know from Germany. Glass, Port, Chonburi or Rayong are examples of this. |

It reminded me on some kind of styled dictatorship events. Needless to name such countries. Everything looked soo straight styled, in same colour. Everybody was doing the same.
Absolutely a dictatorship, I think it is quite frankly ridiculous but I still found it impressive to see, as I've never seen anything like it, even at Muang Thong. Thanks very much BGB and Loko!  Not being allowed to take water in is downright dangerous. When I go to watch Korat play Buriram F.C in Buriram in July I'll have my 15 month old daughter with me. Will she have to go without a drink in temperatures of 30+ for two hours? You can't buy drinks in the ground during the match or at half-time? I'll always find the way they've 'attracted' fans rather tasteless and vulgar but I think it's kind of a cultural thing. Quite a few Korat fans I've talked to just see what's going on there as 'great promotion' and are rather envious of what's going on there. Re: the water - they had a little water dispenser by the entrance of the away section where you could get a very small paper cup of water during the game, but it was impossible to get too if the away section is packed and besides I doubt many even knew it was there either because it wasn't very visible. As for buying outside the stadium, I honestly didn't see anywhere you could buy anything. There might have been, but if there was I didn't see. Re: the attracting of fans - I had the same conversation on the way back with my wife and it was her that was unimpressed with the way they got the fans. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and put it down to promotion similar to what the Korat fans had sad to you. EPL teams buy Asians with very little intention of playing them, just to sell more shirts and get a bigger worldwide fan base, I tried to see it as similar 'promotion' to that. |

BEC Tero v Chonburi is on the 17th of July. I think that there is only one other match on this day, as they are both re-arranged games that have been slotted in at the end of the first leg. |

To be honest, just about every club now has a bloke who stands at the front with a megaphone leading the chants and songs but on nothing like the scale at PEA. I've noticed that there's a stage (in front of the huge side stand that the camers face) that runs almost the whole length of the stand and at about five metre intervals there's a person leading the chants. It obviously helps to get the crowd going...but I still can't stand it. |

The Weird
Everyone within a 50km radius bar none was wearing a Buriram FC shirt on Saturday and a Buriram PEA shirt on Sunday. When I first arrived on Sat, I though it was good to see so many 'supporting' Buriram FC, then the next day the same people all had a Buriram PEA shirts on.
And I'm not just talking a few people, everywhere we went, old, young, male, female, ladyboys, soi dogs... they were all wearing the shirts, it was like they would be shot if they were seen without them on.
There is no way everyone would have genuinely brought a shirt, even at 250 baht. Clearly they were all distributed free with orders of when to wear them etc.
There was a large section of Buriram local BG fans that didn't travel up from Pathum Thani, I would estimate about 200. Nothing wrong with that, in fact it was great to see and meet new fans, but it's the first time that has happened to us anywhere near that scale.
And lastly it was just surreal seeing hundreds of government buses, songtaews, trucks n tractors and whatnot shipping in the 'fans' by the shed load. It really looked like they were being evacuated out of (or should I say into) a disaster area.
Regardless of the rights or wrongs of this, it just makes you realise how different our cultures are, even in this day and age. Then again, even Bangkokians and Isaan people struggle to relate to each other these days. IMHO that's a big part of the reason for all these political problems. |

Well, that's my 2 cents worth, I still don't know what my opinion of them is, but out of the 15 or so away games I've been to with BG, this was the best all round trip (the match was decent too, but we were pathetic beyond words).
I had a look at the photos of the trip on the official site. I think I've worked out which one is you!!!  Looks like you had a great trip. Phanom Rung is stunning, isn't it? I carried my daughter all the way up those steps when she was just five months old. And you stopped at Wat Toh Phommorangsi at Si Khiu, just west of Korat. Still not finished, I see. It will be quite spectacular when it is. Judging by the photos it looked like Newin came over to the BG fans to applaud you? God I hope he does that when we turn up next month; it might get interesting. |

We'll be up there in a couple of weeks and, after reading that, I can't wait!!* I wonder how many of those "fans" you saw on Sunday were at Bang Phra two years ago to watch PEA win the league?  * If anyone from PEA is reading this, I'd be more than happy for you to pay for my petrol and my hotel bill. Actually there are a few fans from PEA who make the matches since back then. I did hear a little about the assistance they got to get to the matches (not money) as I was also offered it too but asked not to tell. It's a little scary whats happening there, I mean how do you control that number of people so completely, but what really worries me as Vinnie said is that it's considered to be good marketing by many Thais when it seems to be just so superficial and short term. It's still a bit of a mystery to me too. Frankly I'm a bit scared to speak too directly about it..... which just aint "football" |

Like I said, I had a really great time, so I find it quite difficult to be too negative about Buriram PEA. Even though the weekend as a whole shouldn't interfere with my thoughts on their team, they probably do. Yes Newin did come over to applaud us and got a (seemingly) genuinely good reception too. Our fanclub really do not make enemies of anyone or any team at all. A little frustrating really, cos I'd love us to have a real heated rivalry with another team (we even get on far too well with MTU for my liking). I've started my own personal hatred of Samut Songkhram but I think I'm on my own with that I'm starting to look forward to your match almost as much as you are, even if it's just to find out what your reaction is afterwards |

What was interesting was that there was a fairly large (about 200) Buriram locals who didn't seem to be 'under orders' and turned up in BG shirts joined us in the away end. At away games we might get a handful of locals who support BG but never close to as many as this. It would be interesting if the other TPL teams have the same when they go there. Of course this doesn't necessarily mean these people are rebelling, they might have reasons to support another TPL team, but I found it very interesting anyway. |

Of course this doesn't necessarily mean these people are rebelling, they might have reasons to support another TPL team, but I found it very interesting anyway.
I'm expecting quite a few Buriram-based Koratians to turn up - there's a lot of migration between the two provinces. There were 50 or so unfamiliar faces in the away section at Chaiyaphum out of an away support of about 250. I'm expecting/hoping for nearer 100 'exiles' at Buriram. Should be our largest away support to date. |

Glass held at home by TTM Brazilian coach Carlos Roberto Carvalho failed to revive the fortunes of Bangkok Glass yesterday as the Rabbits could only manage a 2-2 home draw with TTM Phichit in the Thai Premier League.Naret Kabkraikaew of BEC Tero Sasana scores against TOT-CAT at the Yamaha stadium. It was the former Thailand coach's first match in charge of Bangkok Glass following the departure of Suracha Jaturapatpongporn after a string of poor results.
Kwanchai Phuangprakob stunned the Rabbits when he scored after just seven minutes.
Ney Fabiano scored twice for the home side in the 17th and 85th minutes but Santiparb Siri secured a point for the Northern Lions in injury time.
Bangkok Glass have 15 points from 11 games and are seven points behind leading duo Muang Thong United and Chonburi who both have played two games less.
BEC Tero Sasana thrashed TOT-CAT 5-0 at the Yamaha stadium.
Anon Sangsanoi and Naret Kabkraikaew scored two goals apiece and Antonio Vega added the other.

Muang Thong United keep pressure on Chon Buri Front-runners Chon Buri and Muang Thong United both won yesterday as the battle for the Thai Premier League hotted up.
Second-placed Muang Thong pulled off a convincing 3-0 victory against Osotspa M-150 Saraburi at Saraburi stadium..
The three goals came in the second half from Datsakorn Thonglao, Christian Kouakou and Kone Mohamed.
At Chon Buri Municipal stadium, the hosts edged Thai Port FC 2-1 to remain top of the league.
The visitors opened the scoring in the very first minute through Sarayoot Chaikamdee but Jean Marc Benny equalised for Chon Buri in the 38th.
The score remained that way until deep into injury time when the Sharks clinched three important points with a goal from Sukree Etae.
Playing at home, SCG Samut Songkhram FC defeated the Royal Thai Army 4-2.
On target for Samut Songkram were Suttiphan Chumcheui (13, 47) and Prasarn Phansumlee (68, 90). Scoring for the Army were Chakkraphan Somboon (31) and Thatree Sriha (38).
At the I-Mobile stadium, host, Buri Ram PEA edged Si Sa Ket FC 1-0 with an own goal by Pralong Sawandee in the 70th minute. Si Sa Ket remain bottom, still looking for their first victory of the season while unbeaten Buri Ram moved into third place.

Jules Baga of Chonburi FC celebrates with teammates after scoring against Insee Police United. Chonburi FC took the sole Thai Premier League lead yesterday after thrashing Insee Police United 4-0.
In a one-sided match at Thammasat Rangsit, the Sharks opened the scoring through Panuwat Jinta after 10 minutes.
Further goals from Jules Baga (17), Takahiro Kawamura (own goal 55) and Ekaphan Inthasen gave Chonburi an easy win.
Chonburi have 28 points from 11 games, three ahead of Muang Thong United who have a game in hand.
At Thai-Japan stadium, Bangkok Glass continued their revival under Brazilian coach Carlos Roberto Carvalho with a 4-1 away win at Bangkok Untied.
Paramate Martkuntod scored for the hosts after just seven minutes only for the Rabbits to hit back with four goals from Chatree Chimtalay (35 and 75), Anon Boonsukho (83) and Samuel Arjayee (88).
Bangkok Glass have two wins and one draw under Carvalho.

Si Sa Ket grab first win, Muang Thong held to draw SI SA KET FC lifted themselves off the bottom with their first victory of the season, while defending champions Muang Thong United were held to a draw by the Army in yesterday's Thai Premier League action.
After watching a goalless first half against BEC Tero, the Si Sa Ket crowd erupted in the 76th minute when a cracking 25-yard shot from Tewa Srithammanusarn hit the back of the net.
Si Sa Ket then defended strongly to clinch their first three points of the season and move out of the cellar position.
Si Sa Ket coach, Visuth Wichaya praised his team for their effort. "We played fantastic today," he said. "I would like to thank the players for their performance and also for the fans sticking with us."
Dropping into last place are the Army despite holding high-flying Muang Thong to a 2-2 draw. The Army took the lead with a goal from Nipol Kamthong in the 13th minute but Kone Mohamed equalised in the 30th.
Muang Thong began the second half well with Ronnachai Rangsiyo putting them into a 2-1 lead in the 49th minute.
It looked like Muang Thong would take all three points but Tatree Srina equalised in the last minute to make it 2-2.
Samut Songkhram FC moved into sixth place after a 2-0 win over TOT CAT FC.
The host's goals came from Aekkapoom Potharungrot in the 69th minute and Jeerawat Kaewboran in the 81st.
Thai Port FC earned three useful points with a good 2-0 victory over Pattaya United.
Sarayoot Chaikamdee scored both goals for the Port in the 22nd and 44th minutes.
Thai Port coach Sasom Pobprasert said he was pleased with his team's performance. "If we keep up this standard we should move up the table," he said.

Usually 1 month, but apparently there isn't going to be one this year cos of all the postponements at the start of the season. So as far as I can tell, the 2nd leg will begin on 17th July. Can anyone confirm or deny this? |

Muang Thong in control at the top Si Sa Ket’s Ekaphan Jandaporn celebrates scoring against Pattaya United. Thai Premier League leaders Muang Thong United moved seven points clear of their rivals after thrashing TOT-CAT 4-0 yesterday.
Goals from Phichitphong Cheuichiew, Nataporn Phanrit, Dagno Siaka and Teerasil Dangda gave the Kirins an easy win before their own fans at Yamaha stadium.
Phichitphong opened the scoring after just three minutes with a fierce long drive for his first goal of the season.
After the Kirins came close to getting another goal, Nataporn was on target after 39 minutes. Siaka and Teerasil put the match beyond any doubt in the second half.
Chonburi have two games in hand on Muang Thong.
At PAT stadium, Thai Port continued their revival with a 2-1 victory over Bangkok Glass.
Bangkok Glass went ahead in the 15th minute through Supachai Komsilp. The Portmen rallied in the second half with Sompong Sorleb scoring the equaliser.
Supachai then turned villain for the Rabbits as his own goal gave the hosts all three points.
At Si Sa Ket stadium, Ekaphan Jandaporn secured a point for Si Sa Ket with a late goal after Pattaya United had taken the lead through Patiphan Petviset in the 39th minute.
At Thammasat stadium, hosts Police United drew 1-1 with Buriram PEA. Suchao Nutnum put the visiting team ahead after 42 minutes and Suchart Saleepim scored for the home team two minutes later to grab a point. Yun Dong Kim of Si Sa Ket is beaten to the ball by Pattaya United goalkeeper Prasit Kotmaha yesterday. |
