I recall a big pitch invasion at Boundary Park when you beat Southampton 4-3? to stay up in 93 or 94 was it?

1993. It was the longest 10 minutes of my life. If Southampton had scored again we would have been relegated.

from www.thaileaguefootball.com
Channel 9 has committed to covering 64 Thai Premier League matches in the 2010 season. Channel 11 will also cover division 1 and division 2 matches.

if this happens it is HUGE for the league. I expect a 10X speed up in growth if channel 9 cover 64 matches live next season

64 Matches would mean 2 Games per Gameday. I guess than one on Sat and one on Sun.

That's good news for those of us outside Thailand  Smiley. Trying to follow games on Siam Sport website has been almost impossible recently.

That's a good point. Now you mention it, I don't think i've ever been able to get Siam Sport through a TV in Thailand, despite the fact i've stayed in countless hotels and guesthouses up and down the country (they all seem to have access to South African sports channels though!).

What package do you need to get Siam Sport through your TV set in Thailand?

EDIT: It might also explain why the streaming is so bad, if everyone is trying to watch it from their website.

I hear that the number of Siam Sport viewers is 200 thousand, channel 9 is probably over 30 million. This is why I think it will increase growth so much and so fast.
Siam Sport is a cable channel, most hotels and bars have UBC with ESPN and Star Sports, but everywhere has the free to air TV.

Espaciallay if you consider that a TV in a thai household, shop and bar is running for 24 hours. Smiley

For that reason I like to announce the battly cry: Stay away from the Thai Soaps, switch to the TPL!!

It's also known as NBT 19. I get it in my apartment as well as those South African sports channels, and a Middle-Eastern one which shows loads of Asian football. No idea what package it is - every apartment gets it piped in. I don't get any NBC/TRUE stuff, though.

I'll believe that there will be coverage of Div 2 when I see it. The same thing was said at the start of the 2009 season but it never happened.

Maybe there is something wrong at thaileaguefootball about the broadcast tomorrow. According to FAT Website MTU is on NBT 11, while the releagtion cracker between PU vs Chula is on NBT19 / Siamsport.

So if I'm not mistaken after the last round the final positions are:

Rayong 30
Bangkok United 30
Sriracha 30
Chula United 26
Nakhon Pathom 25

Nakhon Pathom and Chula United relegated along with Sriracha due to head to head.

Bangkok United - Rayong: 0-1 / 1-0
Bangkok United - Sriracha: 0-0 / 1-0
Rayong - Sriracha: 1-0 / 1-0

Rayong 9
Bangkok United 7
Sriracha 1

Am I correct?

According to the FAT website, Sri Racha have stayed up (in 12th place) and Navy Rayong have been relegated.

http://www.fat.or.th/live/index2.php

EDIT: If relegation is decided on goal difference, then Rayong would be the ones to go

Sri Racha -6
Bangkok Utd -10
Navy Rayong -11

Can anyone clarify the situation?

Accordingly to wikipedia:

Rules for classification: 1st points; 2nd head-to-head; 3rd goal difference; 4th goals scored

I'm pretty confident Sriracha has been relegated then.

In this situation though, there a 3 teams on 30 points, so that would that negate the "head to head rule". Leaving goal difference to be the deciding factor?

If that's the case then Navy Rayong are down...and Bangkok United have surivived by one goal  Smiley.

why would negate the head to head rule?

I still believe my prediction above is correct:

"Bangkok United - Rayong: 0-1 / 1-0
Bangkok United - Sriracha: 0-0 / 1-0
Rayong - Sriracha: 1-0 / 1-0

Rayong 9
Bangkok United 7
Sriracha 1"

"Head-to-head = a competition involving two people, teams, etc".

So if a third team are involved, does that mean the head to head becomes irrelevant, and goal diff becomes the deciding factor?

We are talking about a competition organized by the FAT here, so god knows what rules they are going by  Wink....It's probably best we don't think about it too much!

head to head could be also done between 3 or more teams (as in my table above).

This is what happened in major leagues like Italy... if in Thailand they used a different system then its a different story.

I still believe Sriracha is relegated.

Oh what a joke our governing body is. Why do they have to do things this way? A league place shouldn't be decided on head to head. They really are hopeless. And the fact that they can't produce an accurate final league table on the official site just about sums them up.

However, the reason for the confusion is probably down to the computer software. When you type in the scores it calculates league positions on points and goal difference. Hence the confusion.

And those three points that P*ttaya cheated out of SriRacha have kept them up. Scandalous!!

Here's what I said on October 11th

"I presume the relegation battle will be decided on head to head records if the points are level? I'm sure within an hour or two of next weeks final whistles, someone will be able to work out who's been relegated  :Smiley"

Gutted to see Chula go down and with the exception of Sisaket, I'm finding it difficult to welcome the newcomers for next season.

Greg, why don't you like the Army and Police? They bring a lot of history to the league so i welcome their return. Police were close two years ago and this year have led from the beginning, so they are more than welcome.

In 2008, Army struggled in the TPL, not helped by having games postponed at the beginning of the year due to the Armed Forces games (or somthing along that line) and struggled to make up ground after that, although they did win some games you wouldn;t have expected

A lot of people would say it's difficult to see a team that buys their way to the league such as BKK Glass and Pattaya

MTU end in style

Quote
BANGKOK – Champions Muang Thong United (MTU) ended their title-winning campaign with an impressive 2-0 win over inaugural AFC Champions League finalists BEC Tero Sasana.

Teerasil Dangda opened the scoring in the 25th minute before Wisarut Phannasri struck eight minutes from time, netting MTU’s 48th goal in 30 matches as the big-spending Bangkok side preserved their unbeaten home record.

MTU, who have gone from Division 2 to Thailand’s top flight champions in just three seasons, will be hoping to book their ticket to next year’s AFC Champions League via the play-offs, while BEC Tero are also still in the hunt for continental action next year with Tawan Sripan’s side talking on Thai Port in the FA Cup final on Friday with the winners earning a place in the 2010 AFC Cup.

Chonburi, who were knocked out of this year’s AFC Cup at the quarter-final stage, defeated the FA Cup finalists 2-1 to finish second in the standings while Bangkok Glass ended their domestic season with a 5-2 hammering of relegated Nakhon Pathom, who will be joined in the First Division by Sri Racha and Chula United.

Chula went down 2-1 to Pattaya United to finish second last while Sri Racha’s 3-1 win over Osostpa proved academic as Bangkok United got the point they needed with a 1-1 draw at Samut Songkhram.

Bangkok United, who were formed from 2006 champions Bangkok University, finished level on 30 points with Sri Racha but maintained their top flight status courtesy of a better head-to-head record against the Blue Marlins, who were competing in the Thailand Premier League for the first time.

Former champions Provincial Electricity Authority ended a disappointing defence of their crown on a high note with a 4-1 win over Navy Rayong to round of their campaign in tenth position.

Congratulations !  Smiley

A good read, Greg. I'll certainly be using it in the fanzine. Thanks. And I'm looking forward to the ret of it.

For some reason JC's video won't play for me so I don't know if Vijit is claiming all the credit for spotting the marketing potential or not. I sincerely hope that he acknowledges Chonburi FC's part in the upsurge in interest in the local game. It really did start with us. Smiley

I just noticed on www.thaileaguefootball.com the story about higher stadium standards being introduced for next season, and that each stadium will be inspected before the start of the season. Anyone have any details on these 'higher standards'. And will they require one of the richest clubs in the TPL to erect floodlights and put a roof on their only stand?

Btw, he also mentioned that they need to find a way to support the clubs for their away travels. As it is very tough to take the bus going from Chiang Mai to Naratiwat for example.

Well, I would say, simply try to win Thai Airways or Air Asia as sponsor of the league. They than should provide free flights or lower fee flights for the clubs. And the clubs needs to be forced to use the Airline which is a sponsor of the League. Would be also intersting for away games in the ACL and AFC Cup.

I always assumed that financial support was provided for teams that had to make long journeys. Here's an idea. Why don't they give the money they made from the Chonburi game at the weekend to Narathiwat and Chiang Rai?

And those three points that P*ttaya cheated out of SriRacha have kept them up. Scandalous!!
I know supporting a weak side is painful, but you shouldn't write rubbish  Grin

As you are a new member, do you know the situation to which SriRachaShark refers?

EDIT: This is a genuine enquiry and not intended to sound patronising.

Yes, I do. So all of you really think shark  is right???
I I trust more TPL board than a drowned shark from Sri Racha

I've never known a team not be deducted points for fielding an ineligible player - until this situation.
I wouldn't trust anyone from FAT/TPL with 1 satang.

First of my 3 parter on TPL and MTU.
Dale, maybe it would suit your fanzine?

A good read, Greg. I'll certainly be using it in the fanzine. Thanks. And I'm looking forward to the ret of it.

For some reason JC's video won't play for me so I don't know if Vijit is claiming all the credit for spotting the marketing potential or not. I sincerely hope that he acknowledges Chonburi FC's part in the upsurge in interest in the local game. It really did start with us. Smiley

This reminds me that I still have to send you some material. And I still wait for receiving one from you Smiley

So what do you like about Pattaya? Let me guess, the food?

Dale, make sure you're not drinking tea when you see the interview (you probably need to install adobe flash BTW) because you might spit it out when he starts to give credit to certain teams :-)
