Nice piece, but needs more alliteration.

Might I suggest "feeding footballer fans' frenzy for facts" for starters.

Thai premier league now attracting fans across the region
Quote
"I was contacted by tour agencies in Malaysia and Indonesia to organise tours to watch TPL matches. They wanted to see the management of TPL teams, they also wanted to know how they organise fan clubs as well as operate merchandising stores," Chatree Tangthienkul, managing director of World Planet International tour operator, said.

Chatree said that the tour agencies had told him that the TPL is very popular in their countries. "The people were amazed by the success of the local league and how the stadiums were packed with home enthusiasts."

He proposed tour programmes to leading clubs such as Muangthong United, Nong Chok United and politician Newin Chidchob's Buriram PEA, which he thought are big clubs, well organised and worth visiting by foreigners.

Chatree, whose company normally organises outbound tours for sport events such as English Premier League, World Cup, and Uefa's Euro, said it was quite new for his company to organise an inbound tour for sporting events in Thailand, but it was very interesting. He said he never thought that Thai sport events would attract fans from other countries. However, he said it helps create a new market and add a new dimension to his company.

The tour operator has no concerns about the new task at hand except safety for the foreigners as some violence had taken place during some matches last season. He said he had raised his concerns to the clubs and was confident that big clubs would address the issue. Tourists normally need to take insurance to cover any eventualities, he insisted.

The TPL has been a big hit in Thailand in recent years. The competition has attracted plenty of sponsors and investment. Many politicians jumped onto the bandwagon, perceiving it as a way to turn football fans into political supporters. The new season will kick off this Saturday and competition is expected to be very keen.

Meanwhile, the World Planet International tour operator will also organise other international football tours. The first is the "red war day" between Liverpool and Manchester United from March 3-8, the match between Manchester United and Chelsea on May 5-10, which may decide the fate of English Premier League title. The final of the Uefa Champions League on May 28 is among the list of tours offered by Chatree.

Chatree said travelling to watch a football match in Europe is not difficult but the tough part is getting the tickets. So fans need to use the services of tour operators to organise their trip or they may risk getting fake tickets, he warned.

I spoke to Steven Robb at training on Tuesday and he said that he's not playing Sunday because of a three foreign player rule for the cup game.  Not sure if that's changed.

Buriram off to winning start at BEC
Quote

Big-spending Buriram PEA got off to a winning start to the new Thai Premier League season with a 2-1 victory at BEC Tero Sasana yesterday.

At Thephatsdin stadium, Thailand midfielder Suchao Nutnum gave the visitors the lead after 25 minutes and Sariff Sainui doubled the scoreline in the 48th minute.

National striker Teerathep Winothai cut the deficit in the 83rd minute. The Fire Dragons threw everything at the Thunder Castle in the final minutes but could not get an equaliser.

Last year's runners-up Buriram PEA, owned by political heavyweight Newin Chidchob, is spending around 120 million baht to strengthen the squad.

The transfer market for foreign players closed on Wednesday but clubs can still buy local players until early next month.

Bangkok Glass, seen as a dark horse for the title, suffered a bad start when they lost 2-1 at Pattaya United.

Ludovick Takam put Pattaya in front after just 10 minutes before Panuwat Failai equalised for the Rabbits after 28 minutes.

Pattaya got the winning goal from Hiroyuki Yamamoto after 59 minutes.

In yesterday's other matches, Insee Police United edged TOT SC 1-0, and Sri Racha drew 1-1 with SCG Samut Songkhram.

There is only one match today _ TTM FC Phichit host Chiang Rai United at 6pm.

Chonburi defeat Port Sharks look impressive in their first league game of the new season
Quote
Chonburi’s Chonlatit Jantakam, right, fights for the ball with Port’s Sompong Sorlab during the Thai Premier League match at Chonburi stadium yesterday.

Chonburi FC got off to a good start in the Thai Premier League season with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Port FC at Chonburi stadium yesterday.

A good crowd turned up to watch the big clash between FA Cup winners Chonburi and the League Cup champions,

The hosts took the lead after just two minutes when striker Pipob On-mo banged the ball home from close range to put the Sharks 1-0 up.

Chonburi continued to dominate play with both Therdsak Chaiman and Ekaphan Inthasen coming close, but Port defended well.

The score remained 1-0 at half time.

After the interval Port came out in lively fashion and Jeerawat Makkrarom had a good chance but his shot was well saved by Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool in the Chonburi goal.

Port continued to put on the pressure but the Sharks defence held firm, with Suttinun Phukhom and Chonlatit Jantakam being very solid at the back.

In the 72nd minute a free-kick by Chonburi's Therdsak hit the bar and as the ball rebounded Japanese player Kazuto Kushita was quickest to react to make it 2-0.

Port tried to put on the pressure in the last 20 minutes but Chonburi's defence kept them out, earning the hosts a confidence -boosting three points.

In the only other game Si Sa Ket FC were held to a 1-1 draw at home by the Navy FC.

The sailors took the lead in the 35th minute with an angled shot by Anuwat Sorncha.

Ten minutes later, Si Sa Ket equalised when an attempted clearance by a Navy defender hit Si Sa Ket striker, Piyawat Thongmaen and rebounded into the goal.

In the second half both teams had their chances but the game ended up a 1-1 stalemate.

There are no matches today but there will be full program next week

What a terrible description of Chonburi's first goal!!
It makes me wonder if the person that wrote this has actually seen the goal or are they just scared that Munze will beat them up if they mention anything about his blunder?

The keeper was all over the place for the first goal I think he must have had a few nightmares last night.
Maybe his team mates will have a collection and buy him some super glue.

Muang Thong and Glass share spoils
Quote
Muang Thong United began the defence of their Thai Premier League title with a scoreless draw at Bangkok Glass yesterday.

Both sides had chances in an entertaining match at a packed Leo stadium.

Early on Bangkok Glass' Japanese player Kunihiko Takisawa saw his shot blocked by Thailand defender Nataporn Phanrit.

In the 23rd minute, Glass' new signing Sarayuth Chaikamdee made a long-range drive which went just wide.

Muang Thong striker Anon Sangsanoi came close to scoring twice but his attempts were saved by Glass goalkeeper Krissana Klangklin.

Both teams were reduced to 10 men after 83 minutes when Muang Thong midfielder Datsakorn Thonglao and Glass' Moussa Sylla were sent off.

The stalemate ended Muang Thong's losing streak following their losses in the King's Trophy match and the AFC Champions League qualifying.

The defeats led to Muang Thong coach Carlos Roberto Carvalho being removed to oversee the club's academy.

Manager Robert Procuerer is caretaker coach as Muang Thong are in talks with candidates for the coaching job.

At Saraburi stadium, Osotspa M-150 Saraburi held leaders Chonburi to a 2-2 draw.

The Sharks got their first goal from veteran Therdsak Chaiman in the 12th minute but Pipat Tonkanya equalised five minutes later.

The hosts went in front through Anirut Sueyam after 79 minutes only for Japanese Higuchi to get a point for the Sharks.

At Chon Buri Physical Education stadium, Navy lost 3-1 to promoted Chiang Rai United.

The northern side got the first goal in the 26th minute from Suasa da Silva before Navy equalised before half-time.

Chiang Rai got two more goals from Gilson Dias and Wasant Natasan in the second half to finish off the hosts.

At Phichit stadium, TTM FC Phichit lost 2-1 to BEC Tero Sasana.

BEC got off to a fast start with two goals in the first 15 minutes from Ronnachai Rangsiyo and Udojo Ekele.

South Korean Miang Jin Ho pulled one goal back for the hosts in the 26th minute.

At Samut Songkhram stadium, SCG Samut Songkhram came back from one goal down to beat Si Sa Ket 2-1.

Muang Thong sink Thai Port

Quote

Defending champions Muang Thong United earned their first victory of the season as late goals saw them secure a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Thai Port FC in the Thai Premier League at Yamaha stadium yesterday.

Muang Thong’s Boubacar Issoufou, right, and Thai Port’s Jirawat Makrom fight for possession of the ball in last night’s match.

There were also good wins for Chonburi who moved to the top of the table with a 6-0 thrashing of TOT SC and the hotly tipped Buriram PEA who won 2-0 away to Khon Kaen.

Muang Thong were determined to put on a good show for new coach Henrique Calisto and they achieved an important morale-boosting victory although it took them a long time to break down the Port's stubborn defence.

It was one-way traffic throughout the first half as the Kirin piled on the pressure, but Port managed to keep the score at 0-0 at halftime thanks in part to some fine saves by goalkeeper Munze Ulrich.

Port were reduced to 10 men when defender Mongkol Namnuad was sent off for a second yellow card offence, increasing the pressure on the visitors.

Just as it was beginning to look like Port would hold on for a hard-earned point, Muang Thong struck with a fine goal in the 86th minute

Teerasil Dangda crossed from the right and substitute Dagno Siaka struck with a fine overhead kick that gave the keeper no chance, much to the delight of the Kirin fans packed into the stadium.

Shortly afterwards Muang Thong struck again with a goal from Teerasil to clinch the much-needed three points.

Chonburi went on a goal spree when they hosted TOT SC, banging in six past the cellar dwellers. Therdsak Chaiman led the rout for the Sharks with two goals (6th, 33) while also on target were Adul Lasoh (17), Chonlatit Jantakam (21), Kushida (53) and Berlang (55).

Buriram faced a tricky visit to Khon Kaen but goals from Suchao Nutnum (34) and Teerathorn Bunmathan (74) saw them move into third place.

At Thephatsadin stadium, hosts BEC Tero Sasana collected their second win of the season with a 2-0 defeat of Navy FC 2-0, while at the Leo Stadium, Bangkok Glass drew 1-1 against this season's surprise team Army United who hold second place.

In Chonburi, Pattaya United were held to a goalless draw against against Osotspa M-150 Saraburi, while Insee Police United defeated the TTM FC Phichit 1-0.

At Si Nakhon Lumduan stadium, Si Sa Ket FC drew 1-1 with Sri Racha FC while Chiang Rai United drew 0-0 against the SCG Samut Songkhram FC.

Buriram PEA top, Muang Thong crash
Quote

Osotspa M-150’s defender Boonmee Boonrawd slides to stop the attacking Christian Kuakoo of the defending champions Muang Thong United in Saraburi yesterday. Osotspa M-150 won 5-1 .

The Thunder Castle, Buriram PEA roared to the top of the Thai Premier League yesterday with a convincing 3-0 victory over Chonburi's Sharks .

In another significant result, big spenders Muang Thong United suffered a nightmare when they were thrashed 5-1 away to Osotspa M-150 Saraburi.

More than 20,000 fans packed the I-Mobile stadium in Buriram and the home side got off to a great start with Cameroon player Frank Ohandza scoring in the 6th minute.

Ohandza was on target again in the second half with a strike in the 56th minute while Jakkraphan Kaewprom added the third in the 77th minute.

The victory put Buriram PEA on top of the league while Chonburi are in sixth place.

Defending champions Muang Thong United were torn apart in the second half by the lively Osostspa team.

Pipat Tonkanya had put the home side in front in the 18th minute but Datsakorn Thonglao of Muang Thong made it 1-1 in the 33rd minute.

In the second half Osotspa went on a scoring spree with Marcio da Silva (50), Apipoo Sunthornpanavej (58), Lazaras Kaimbi (89) and Wannapol Bussapakom (90) all on target.

The result saw Osotspa move into third place while Munag Thong are struggling in 12th, with just one win from four matches.

At Chonburi Physical Education stadium, Navy FC drew 1-1 with Insee Police United. The Navy took the lead through Rattaporn Saetan in the 44th minute before Surachart Sareepim equalised in the 65th.

TOT SC remain pointless at the bottom after losing 0-2 at home to Pattaya United, Niweat Siriwong and Patipol Petchviset were on target for Pattaya..

Thai Port had their first home game of the season but could only manage a 1-1 draw with Bangkok Glass and remain third from bottom.

Sompong Sorleb put Port ahead in the 28th minute but former Port striker Sarayuth Chaikamdee equalised for the Glass Rabbit in the 57th minute .

Influx of foreign players
Quote

The Thai Premier League has become popular not only for local fans but also for foreign players.

There are now 121 overseas players in the TPL this season, thanks to a new regulation which allows each club to have seven foreign players on its books and a maximum five in one match (7+5).

The rule was introduced by the Football Association of Thailand and Thai Premier League Co last season.

It was reported that certain big clubs pushed for the new regulation which initially upset small teams who could not match the big guns' spending power.

But now most clubs in the 18-team TPL have a maximum seven foreign players on their books. They are from 26 countries including Brazil, Cameroon, Japan, South Korea, Britain, Ivory Coast, Pakistan, Finland and Laos.

Understandably, Brazilians form the biggest foreign contingent in the TPL with 26 players. Other major suppliers include Cameroon with 13 stars, Japan (12), South Korea (12), Britain (7) and Ivorians (7).

While many officials say their clubs have been better off with foreign players who they believe are more skilful than local players, some coaches argue that the influx of foreign players could hurt the national side and football development here.

Chonburi FC manager Witthaya Laohakul says the current 7+5 system is not beneficial to Thai football particularly its national team.

"There are too many foreigners in the TPL and worse is that they are not grade-A players from their countries," said the former Thailand coach who is a vocal critic of the FAT.

Although a maximum five foreign players are allowed on the pitch at the same time, the ex-Thailand midfielder says most clubs have seven on their books.

"Home-grown players get less chances to play. It will affect the national team in the long run because we will not be able to produce our own players," said Witthaya.

At continental club competitions, Thai teams have not fared well probably because of the 7+5 rule.

Witthaya says Muang Thong United were eliminated in the AFC Champions League because the TPL's rule is different from that of the Asian Football Confederation.

The AFC allows only four foreigners (three non-Asians and one Asian) for each club in one match in its continental club competitions.

Witthaya argues that most foreign players in the TPL are not much better than local players so it is not likely for Thais to learn from them.

"Indeed, I think many Thai players have better basics and they need chances to play to make progress. Unfortunately, most Thai players also get lower wages than the foreigners," said Witthaya who played for clubs in Germany and Japan.

But Chonburi also have a maximum seven foreign players on their books. They are Darko Rakocevic and Vladimir Ribic of Serbia, Japanese duo Kazuto Kushida and Daiki Higuchi, Brazilian striker Ney Fabiano, Nigeria's Kenneth Akpueze and Belgian Nlome Ndebi Berlin.

Fabiano has been one of the best foreigners in TPL history. He helped Chonburi win the league crown in 2007 and then moved to Melbourne Victory.

After an unsuccessful spell in Australia he returned to Thailand to play for Bangkok Glass before returning to Chonburi this year.

Ronnarit Suewaja, general manager of two-time defending TPL champions Muang Thong, has a different view.

"If local players are good enough, they should be able to book their places in their teams," he said.

"In all, we have 117 teams in Thailand. The whole local league still needs foreigners because we do not have enough local players in terms of both quality and quantity."

Muang Thong have seven foreign players, three from Ivory Coast and one each from Finland, Britain, Slovenia and Nigeria.

"The seven foreign players rule is okay. We can change later if it does not work," he said.

Ronnarit says the quality of the foreign players in the TPL probably depends on their prices.

"If you are willing to pay more then you are likely to get better players," he said.

"One important thing is that these foreign players help make our league more interesting and stronger. Our players can learn from them."

One of their best foreigners is Christian Kouakou of Ivory Coast who has featured in the first team this season.

One of the clubs who benefits most from their foreign players is Army United.

Army used only Thai players last season because according to their bosses they represent the Royal Thai Army.

But they performed poorly and were originally relegated at the end of the last season. However, they remain in the top flight through the play-offs after the authorities suddenly increased the number of teams from 16 to 18.

This season, they are a contender for the title at this stage of the season thanks in part to their foreign players.

"We bought the foreign players after getting the green light from Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha," said Thanadej Fuprasert, coach of Army who have five Brazilians, one Japanese and one Cameroonian on their books.

"In general, footballers from South America and Europe are more professional than Asians," he said.

"They get higher wages than some local players but they are not too high."

The signings were recommended by the club's technical chief and manager Pongpan Wongsuwan, who is brother of Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan.

Army are one of the surprise packages this season and recently hammered Muang Thong 3-0. Their Brazilian star Leandro Dos Santos is one of the hottest strikers with four goals in as many games.

Insee Police United coach Thawatchai Dumrong-ongtrakul admits clubs have too many players with the 7+5 regulation.

But the former Thailand international argues that clubs need them to help make local players improve.

Thawatchai oversees seven foreign players _ five South Koreans, one Brazilian and one British-born Singaporean in John Wilkinson who is the club's captain.

"Korean players are faster and more powerful while Brazilian and Africans are more skilful," he said.

TTM FC Phichit are dubbed "Korea FC" because they have six Korean players and are coached by Korean Myung Ho Bae.

With several Korean players from both teams, a recently match between Insee Police and TTM was labelled as "Battle of Princes of Kimji."

TTM's Korean players are certainly not too bad with Yeon Gisung a leading striker this season.

Team manager Kovit Rungsawang says he is satisfied with the Korean players not only because of their performance but also their commitment.

"Their football skills are second to none. They also have discipline and responsibility and this is very important," said Kovit.

"I want them to show their Thai colleagues how to be good players."

Kovit says each get at least 100,000 baht a month. TTM can have another foreign player and not surprisingly Kovit is looking for another Korean.

"When you have many players from the same country, it is good because they will feel at home," he said.

TTM finished 13th last season and with their in-form Korean players they target a higher finish this term .

Strong Sharks show their teeth
Quote
Chonburi FC climbed into second place in the Thailand Premier League yesterday with a hard-fought 2-1 win over TTM FC Phichit at Chonburi Stadium.

The Sharks had to come from behind after Phichit took a shock lead through Thanat Wongsupaluck in the 12th minute.

Chonburi fought back strongly and in the 31st minute the Sharks striker, Pipob On-mo equalised to make it 1-1.

Chonburi came out firing in the second half and were immediately rewarded with what turned out to be the winning goal by Natthaphong Samana,

Insee Police United lost their first match of the season when they were beaten 1-0 by the visiting SCG Samut Songkhram FC at Thammasat University stadium.

The only goal of the match was scored by Brazilian, Fabio Brabosa who beat the offside trap to move Samut Songkhram up to fourth place in the league.

At PAT Stadium, the Thai Port FC earned their first victory of the season after beating high-flying Army United 1-0.

Jirawat Makrarom scored the winning goal for the Thai Port FC with an excellent free kick in the 52nd minute of the match to earn three valuable points. The Army slipped to fifth place.

Because of trouble between Port and Pattaya fans at a match a few weeks ago, Port fans were not allowed into the stadium yesterday and the only spectators were Army fans.

At Mae Fah Luang stadium, host Chiang Rai United defeated Si Sa Ket FC 1-0 with the only goal of the match coming from Wasant Natasan in the 48th minute.

At Mahasarakam Rajabhat institute stadium hosts Khon Kaen FC ended a three-match losing streak with a 0-0 draw against the Navy.

Hi  i see BURIRAM PEA had a hard fought victory against pattaya. Not worth a mention.

The above reports are from yesterday's (Sunday) matches and were in Monday's Bangkok Post and on the website.

PEA played on Saturday and their report was in Sunday's paper and website, along with all the other games from that day. It was also the headline.

Muang Thong , Buriram PEA share spoils
Quote

Muang Thong’s Christian Kouakou, left, fights for the ball with Buriram PEA defender Anderson dos Santos.

Leaders Buriram PEA continued their unbeaten run after a scoreless draw at two-time defending champions Muang Thong United in the Thai Premier League yesterday.

Both sides had serveral scoring chances in an entertaining game at Yamaha stadium which was packed to its 17,000 capacity.

Muang Thong were the better side in the opening stages with forwards Teerasil Dangda and Dagno Siaka coming close to scoring.

At the other end, Muang Thong defenders Panupong Wongsa and Nataporn Phanrit had a busy day against Buriram's strike force of Franck Ohandza and Frank Acheampong who is dubbed "Ghana's Messi".

Ghana youth international Acheampong went clear after 32 minutes but his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Kawin Thamasatchanan. Acheampong then sent the loose ball over the bar.

Acheampong won a free-kick late on but Rangsan Vivatchaichok's attempt went wide.

BEC Tero Sasana moved to second, one point behind Buriram, after a comfortable 3-0 win at relegation contenders Si Sa Ket.

Phaitoon Nontadee and Agere gave the Fire Dragons a 2-0 lead in the first half and a Suphan Arjkhum own goal in the second half completed a miserable day for the hosts.

Army United returned to winning ways with a 2-1 home win against Chiang Rai United.

Leandro dos Santos opened the scoring for Army after 15 minutes and Carlos Eduardo equalised for the visitors in the 23rd minute.

Dos Santos scored the winning goal after 71 minutes as Army moved to third.

SCG Samut Songkhram remain the only other undefeated side this season following a 1-1 home draw with promoted club Khon Kaen FC.

Chokelarp Ninsaeng, whose name means "luck" in Thai, scored the equaliser for SCG in the 87th minute to cancel out Adisak Jarak's 38th minute strike.

Sri Racha FC are still looking for their first win of the season after losing 1-0 at home to Insee Police United who got the winning goal from Nantawat Thansopha after 62 minutes.

SMT winds up visit to Thailand
Quote

Bangkok: AFC has asked Thailand clubs to improve their infrastructure, media facilities and youth development programme in order to be eligible to take part in the AFC Champions League.

A Special Mission Team, headed by AFC’s Director of Competitions Tokuaki Suzuki, recently completed its assessment of Thai Premier League clubs.

“AFC appreciates the hard work put in by the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), Thai Premier League and the clubs to improve professional football,” Suzuki said.

"But Thailand still has some weak points such as stadiums, media facilities and operations, and youth development. If the clubs cannot improve their facility and programme to meet the criteria, they will not be able to play in the AFC Champions League from 2012-2014. The AFC strongly encourages the clubs to improve their stadium, media facilities and youth development system."

"In conclusion, Thailand has great potential and wants to improve under the leadership of Dato Worawi and Dr. Vichit to meet the criteria before the deadline."

FAT President Dato’ Worawi Makudi, who is also a FIFA Executive Committee member, appreciated AFC’s efforts and expressed hope that the Thai clubs will work hard to meet the criteria.

“We sincerely appreciate the efforts of AFC in this inspection visit. I believe our clubs and league would have received much knowledge and experience from this visit.

“We accept all the constructive comments by the AFC delegation and hope to consistently improve in order to meet all the criteria. I hope all the concerned parties will benefit from this inspection visit,” he said .

In short, it's a 'Good try Charlie but you ain't getting it!' In regarding to Youth Development, despite a module of development cleary laid out by AFC's Handbook and precisely re-emphasis in Vision Thailand written and handed to FAT by AFC, FAT only managed to produce bunch of C-Licens coaches without productivity of an urgency vvery much needed. It just make me wonder what parts of urgency FAT do not understand.

Buriram continue early season charge
Quote

Bangkok Glass striker Sarayoot Chaikamdee, left, and Buriram PEA defender Anderson dos Santos battle for the ball.

Leaders Buriram PEA continued their good run with a 2-0 win at Bangkok Glass in the Thai Premier League yesterday.

In-form BEC Tero Sasana moved to second with a comfortable 3-1 win against Chiang Rai United while Chonburi FC dropped to third after being held 2-2 at home by SCG Samut Songkhram.

Two-time defending champions Muang Thong United returned to form when they thrashed TTM FC Phichit 3-0 to revive their hopes of retaining the crown.

At Leo stadium, Buriram dominated for long periods with strike duo Franck Ohandza of Cameroon and Ghana's Frank Acheampong keeping Bangkok Glass' rearguard busy.

But the Thunder Castle had to wait until after 72 minutes to break the Glass defence thanks to a Sarif Sainui strike.

Kirati Keawsombut secured the three points for the visitors with 10 minutes to go.

SCG Samut Songkhram held Chonburi to a 2-2 draw to remain one of the two unbeaten sides, along with Buriram PEA.

In a lively match, Ekaphan Inthasen opened the scoring for Chonburi after 51 minutes only for Chokelarp Nilsang to equalise four minutes later.

SCG then stunned the hosts when Thana Sriphandorn gave them a 2-1 lead. Defender Chonlatit Jantakam came to the rescue of the Sharks late on.

At Thephatsadin stadium, Teerathep Winothai scored twice in the second and 13th minutes as BEC cruised to a 3-1 win against newcomers Chiang Rai.

Ronnachai Rangsiyo netted BEC's other goal in the 45th minute and the visitors got a consolation from Wasant Natasant after 62 minutes.

At Yamaha stadium, Muang Thong United put their title chase back on track after beating TTM Phichit 3-0. Christian Kouakou was on target in the 23rd minute and Datsakorn Thonglao added two more goals in the second half.

After losing their first five games without scoring a single goal, TOT SC are now one of the hottest teams.

They won 1-0 at Thai Port with a close range effort by Vicharn Nantasri in the 59th minute. It was their second win in a row after defeating Bangkok Glass 2-1 on Sunday.

At Thammasat Rangsit, hosts Insee Police United missed out on a victory when defender Nontaphan Jiesathawong scored an own goal in the dying minutes to give Si Sa Ket a 2-2 draw.

TOT vs Army Utd, what would be appropriate name for this battle? Someone earlier mentioned that PEA with solid purposeful defense also have raised level of physical fitness to TPL, if so, that earns my respect(meaning I haven't seen any of their games, yet!). Pattaya vs Sri Racha, somehow I still am struggling to relate the word Pattaya to football and it got worse when I closed my eyes Smiley though these two teams could make a good novalty rivals down the road. So, I am waiting to see how these 3 Saturday matches played out.

Sharks show their teeth against Si Sa Ket
Quote

Defending champions Muang Thong’s Dasakorn Thonglao, left, and SCG Samut Songkhram’s Choklarp Nilsaeng fight for the ball. Muang Thong won 2-0 .

Chonburi maintained their challenge in the Thai Premier League in emphatic style yesterday with a 5-0 thrashing of Si Sa Ket while defending champions Muang Thong United continued their climb up the table with a 2-0 win over SCG Samut Songkhram .

At Chonburi stadium, the Sharks controlled the game from the start and went ahead in the 22nd minute with a goal from Vladimir Ribic.

Chonburi kept up the pressure and Pipob On-mo made it 2-0 in the 38th minute.

After the break the Sharks showed no signs of letting up with Adul Lasoh making it 3-0 in the 53rd minute. Two more goals from substitute Sukree Etae (76, 82) rounded off the scoring to give Chonburi a firm grip on second place, three points behind leaders Buriram PEA.

After a poor start to the season, defending champions Muang Thong United appear to be getting into their stride and notched their fifth victory of the season against Samut Songkhram.

The Kirin took the lead in the 40th minute when Miroslav Toth was fouled in the area and Dagno Siaka stepped up to convert the penalty.

Muang Thong continued to put the pressure on after the break and Toth scored with a superb volley in the 57th minute to make it 2-0 to move his team up into fourth place.

At Thammasat University stadium, Insee Police United climbed into third place by edging BEC Tero Sasana 1-0, the only goal coming from Chakrit Buathong in the 56th minute

At Leo stadium, the host, Bangkok Glass FC defeated the bottom side Siam Navy 4-0. Sarayuth Chaikamdee put the Glass Rabbit ahead after 23 minutes and the score remained 1-0 at half-time.

Bangkok Glass pushed home their advantage in the 71st minute with a goal from Sutee Suksomkij and Saruta Hironori completed the scoring with two well-taken goals (82, 90).

At Rajabhat Mahasarakham stadium, the host, Khon Kaen defeated Chiang Rai 3-2 in an entertaining match.

Khon Kaen took the lead in the 11th minute through Kumpeng Sayawuthi, but Chiang Rai equalised when Panupong Aramviroj scored after 28 minutes. A minute before half time, Khon Kaen regained the lead through Jattupol Luthiloh.

In the second half, Khon Kaen extend their lead in the 49th minute with a bizarre long-range effort, Kumpeng Sayawuthi hoofed the ball away from well inside his own half only for the visiting goalkeeper to totally misjudge the flight and let in a very soft goal.

Kumpee Pintakul pulled one back for Chiang Rai in the 62nd minute but Khon Kaen held on for three valuable points which puts them into 10th place.
