Thanks, Vinnie. April 9th should be interesting as both SriRacha and Chonburi are scheduled to play at home.

The fixtures on April 9th have now been changed. SriRacha will be away on that date and Chonburi will be at home.
It's also worth mentioning that PEA's home games are down to played in Ayutthya.

Can't wait for the season to now start.
This year i'm going for a BEC championship win. Not that i generally support them, but mainly because they seem to be consistent in coming 3rd, now they just need that little push!
Will be interesting to see how Muang get on.
I also want to see Osotsapa do well.

Sorry, DF, I can't see Tero winning anything again this season. They've played some nice stuff in the QC but I feel they lack the strength in depth to go all the way in the TPL.
Muang Thong were one of the best teams I saw last season. I think that they'll do quite well this year.
As for predictions.............modesty forbids. But let's just say that I'll be extremely disappointed in Chonburi don't win the league.
I'd like to see Nakorn Pathon and Samut Songkhram do well this time around. Particularly SS as they have a decent fan base and seem to be a well run town team.

On the website I've got a poll asking who will win the 2009 TPL. The options are Chonburi, Muang Thong, BEC and PEA. Is that fair or should I not even have BEC in the list? I know they're not particularly fancied this year.

There's no harm leaving them on there, Vinnie. It will be interesting to see if they get many votes. Incidentally, I've just voted for Chonburi

An interesting read from todays BKK Post.
Fresh coat of paint on Thai League
By: TOR CHITTINAND
After a five-month break, the country's top-flight football league will return next month.
The Thailand Premier League will become the Thai Premier League supervised by the Thai Premier League Co Ltd. It will kick off on March 7 and run until October.
The company was established recently by the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) which wants to upgrade local football to be in line with demands from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The AFC wants all leagues to be run professionally.
All teams in the new-look Thai league must be registered as limited companies. Several teams have changed their names or been taken over by registered companies to avoid legal problems.
The teams with new names include Pattaya United (formerly Coke-Bang Phra), Bangkok Glass FC (Krng Thai Bank), Chula United (Chula-Sinthana), Bangkok United FC (Bangkok University), Navy-Rayong FC (Royal Thai Navy) and TMM-Samut Sakhon (Tobacco Monopoly).
The other clubs in the 16-team Thai league are defending champions PEA, Chonburi FC, BEC Tero Sasana, Osotsapa, Samut Songkhram, Nakhon Pathom, Port FC, Muang Thong-Nong Jok FC, TOT FC and Sri Racha FC.
The FAT has received a budget of 70 million baht from the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) to organise all domestic leagues and give financial support to clubs.
Of the 70 million baht, 55 million is for the Thai Premier League and the rest for Division One, Division Two (formerly the Provincial League) and the Women's Football League.
However, the FAT says it needs 110 million baht to run the leagues and support the clubs a so it has to look for additional funds from sponsors and other sources.
FAT president Worawi Makudi says several private firms are interested in supporting the leagues or certain teams.
He believes that clubs would be able to stand by themselves in the next four or five years without funds from the government.
The Thai Premier League will be run under the theme "Vision Thailand" and the AFC will help improve the quality of Thai league sides.
The AFC wants all clubs to have coaches with an A-licence so it will send instructors to train the coaches. It will also train coaches in Division One and Two to get at least a B-licence.
The Thai league needs improvement to return to Asia's "elite leagues" so its champions earn an automatic spot in the group stages of the AFC Champions League.
In the past, two Thai teams got direct entry to the AFC Champions League but this stopped after the AFC found that the Thai league was not up to required standards.
In a good sign for the league, a number of Bangkok clubs have moved to the provinces in an attempt to create a new fan base of their own.
They say it is difficult to lure fans in Bangkok to watch them play so it would be better for them to play their home games in the provinces.
Last season's champions PEA will use Ayutthaya as their home ground, while TOT FC will use Kanchanaburi as their home for the new season.
Also, many teams plan to form official fan clubs and sell merchandise.
It is a pity that the Thai Premier League will not be shown on a free TV station or cable TV.
Matches will be televised on NBT19, a satellite TV station run by Siam Sports Syndicate.
While the company should be praised for trying to help promote the league, the coverage will reach only a minority of football fans.
Meanwhile, the FAT has set March 31 for the election of its presidential election.
It was earlier believed that Worawi's predecessor Vijitr Getkaew would send a candidate to challenge Worawi.
But now that Worawi and Vijitr have buried their hatchet, it is almost certain that Worawi will be re-elected.
However, former national team striker Piyapong Pue-on, now a football analyst, says he will stand in the election.
While he admits that there is a very slim chance of him being elected, he says he just wants to add colour to the poll.
That is unlike a couple years ago when former national player Wittaya Laohakul lost to Vijitr in a heated election.

From what I can make out (I do not read Thai), this is the first half of the fixture list and runs into June. Almost all games are weekend Saturday/Sunday kicking off between 16.00 and 18.00
I believe that it is now one stadium per club - and I assume that it is almost impossible to see matches at both 16.00 and 18.00 if one is fussy about not missing the start/end of games.
Has anyone revised the maps of stadiums that have looked so useful.
Will the lower division matches tend to clash with the top division, or will we get different kick off times, Friday night matches or anything like that?
i.e. anything that allows more matches to be seen during a short visit to Thailand, and also to see matches further away from BKK?

well, if you are talking about groundhopping, might not be the best at a first look. But if you are in BKK or Chonburi Area with 3 Clubs in the TPL, you have good chances to watch a lot a of games just on one weekend.

Chonburi 1 BEC Tero 0 A strange game. Good in parts but lots of niggly little incidents. Another quality free kick from Arthit to win it and he could have scored a couple more. I thought he was our best player today. I would question Zico's team selection. I know Adul is injured but why no Anderson, no Suree, Kone starting on the bench? However, Kiatprawut was included as a sub, which is great news. Expect serious repercussions for Tero's Bamba; he took off his shirt and threw it at the referee after being sent off. Shameful behaviour. Akran too was lucky to stay on the field after abusing the ref and getting involved in one or two unsavoury incidents. I was very pleased with the attendance. I'd say about 4,500 - 5,000. Let's hope that hey keep coming

Good game, Chonburi deserved to win. In the first half, Arthit had a good opportunity too with a fantastic free kick but nice save from Pisan our goalkeeper. Bamba is crazy because his foul is almost a red so the yellow card is natural. Did Yoshiaki Maruyama play? I am about to buy Chonburi shirt with his name but don't know what is it on his backof shirt. Last time, he played friendly game but don't have name on the back: http://maruyamayoshiaki.net/diary/pic/P1010166.JPGIf someone can help me to know, it will be good for me because i really want Chonburi shirt with n°16.

PEA Ayutthaya- it was frustrating that they were not winning while in complete control. In the 92nd minute a defensive blunder means they open the season with a 0-1 loss. Tough time for the club, test of character for the fans.

Good attendances at most of the matches, too. Couple of points/questions. There did seem to be quite a few farangs at the Pattaya match. There were also a couple of missiles thrown at the linesman when he ruled out a late Pattaya 'goal'. Any official comment or investigation into this incident? Also, who is the farang playing for Nakhon Pathom?

However, I'm a little concerned about the suitability of the stadium to accomodate large numbers. We (Chonburi) are due to play there in a couple of weeks and will take a few thousand fans. Safety will be a huge issue. I know that TIT but hopefully someone will have made arrangements to ensure that no-one is placed in any danger. But I'm not holding my breath. The missile throwing incident also worries me. Do you know what was thrown, Vinnie (or anyone)? I'm used to seeing water bottles used as missiles but usually other fans step in and calm the situation before it gets too serious. BANGKOK UNITED AIM TO REGAIN PAST GLORY BANGKOK (9 March 2009) - Former Thai Premier League champions Bangkok United FC still aspire to regain their past glory despite failing to pick up full points in their first game of the season yesterday. The team which was known as Bangkok University until the recent revamp of the Thai Premier League, were held to a scoreless draw by Nakhonpathom FC at the Din Daeng Stadium. The one point has allowed Bangkok United to be placed tenth in the 16-team Thai Premier League 2009. “If a large number of Bangkok people join our fan club, I'm sure that we will become a great team in the future," said Sukhumbhand Paribatra, the governor of Bangkok who is one of the club's honorary advisers recently. Added former Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin, who is the club's chairman: “we aim to finish in the top five in the coming season and win the league in three years.” Bangkok University reached their peak when they won three university-level titles in 2006 - the U-League, Super U-League and University Games. They then went on to win the Thailand Premier League in 2007. Bangkok United have now linked up with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to be in line with the FA of Thailand's (FAT) new regulations that all teams in the top flight must be registered as limited companies. The team is being led by Somchai Supperm as the head coach where he is being assisted by Noppadon Vijarnnarong. Among the players to look out for this season are Veera Kerdputsa, Punnarat Klinsukon, Kittisak Siriwaen, Noppon Poludom, Sarif Sainui and Jira Jaroensuk. In the meantime in the other matches of the week, three teams got off to rousing starts in their campaign as they scored identical 3-0 wins over their respective opponents. Muang Thong United beat Thai Port United, Rajnavy Rayong FC overcame TTM Samut Sakhon while Samud Songkram FC edged Chula United FC. But the biggest news this week would be the defeat suffered by defending champions Provincial Electric Authority as they fell 1-0 at home to Osotsapa FC. CURRENT THAI PREMIER LEAGUE 2009 STANDINGS 1. MUANG THONG UNITED (+3) 3pts 2. RAJNAVY RAYONG FC (+3) 3pts 3. SAMUD SONGKRAM (+3) 3pts 4. CHONBURI FC (+1) 3pts 5. OSOTSAPA FC (+1) 3pts 6. BANGKOK GLASS FC (=) 1pt 7. PATTAYA UNITED (=) 1pt 8. I watched the weekend's highlights again last night. If Chonburi take a couple of thousand there then it's going to be interesting to say the least! There are virtually no barriers behind the goals so expect a pitch party by the Chonburi faithful if they score. The side opposite the cameras consists of what they call 'bleachers' in America. Given that the ground was virtually full for the Sriracha game, I'm not quite sure where the Chonburi masses are going to go.

"so expect a pitch party by the Chonburi faithful if they score" IF??!! IF??!! Surely you mean, "When" It is a serious issue. I'm just hoping that they have given it some thought. The Bang Phra v Chonburi match was switched to Sirinthorn last season. Maybe that's an option this time? According to the stats on Thailand Su Su message board there were 1,700 there on Sunday. So you can at least double that for our visit. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Chonburi 1 Osotspa 0
A terrible first half ruined by Chonburi players allowing themselves to get dragged down by the visitors rough-house tactics.
A big improvement after the break. We got the ball on the floor and started passing it around. A great goal by Anderson (a sweet volley/half-volley on the turn) and a decent performance.
In truth we could/should have had a few more. Pipob went close, Kone had one good shot saved and a header cleared off the line. Thankfully Kosin was still concentrating when Osotspa broke away in the dying seconds to make an important save.
So 2 games, 2 goals and 2 wins. Happy with that ahead of next weekends match down the road.

You would have thought a nation of Liverpool fans would be more aware and sensitive when the issue of crowd safety arises. Still, TIT : Would love to join you down there SRS for the big game but I don't think the Mrs will let me out of her sight at the moment! Perhaps I'll come down for the reverse fixture.

Bang Phra 0 Chonburi 0
What an anti-climax. Not much to report. Chonburi were the better side in the first half by a long way. I lost count of the number of corners we had but our old habit of not being able to score is still with us.
Bang Phra improved in the second half, and went close a couple of times, but never really looked like scoring either.
I felt Zico got his team selection wrong again. Kone on the bench? No Douglas? I would have started with them both; their height would certainly have been an advantage for our corners.
As for the referee!!!!!! Terrible. He was just as bad for both teams but inconsistent doesn't cover it. And as for the sending off. What a joke! Thank goodness it didn't cost us.
A quick note to any clubs travelling to the Nong Prue "Stadium". Take your own crowd because the local support was very poor last night. They announced the crowd as 3,500 and well over half of them were supporting Chonburi.
On a positive note, the safety aspect of the ground wasn't as big an issue as I'd feared. This may have been due to a rather dull game and a flat atmosphere but thankfully they do seem to have it sorted.

Bangkok United proved that you should always play until the final whistle last night. At 0-2 down they scored twice in a minute - the 95th minute!! - to claim a 2-2 draw with Thai Port. Another tricky match for Chonburi tonight I think. I saw TOT win at Samut Songkram a couple of weeks ago and they looked like a useful side.

I went to that Bangkok U v Port game. it wasn't exactly the last minute of the game, but the two goals came very late. The match was unique. 2 minutes into the game a storm passed over, everyone went running for cover except for about 30 BKK U fans who kept singing in the storm. Late in the match half the lights went out stopping the game for about 20mins then very late the goals came for Bkk U.

Two short match reports. Chonburi 1 BKK Gl*ss 3 Leaving aside for a moment the fact that I don't approve of the way the visitors have bought their way into the TPL, I thought that they deserved the win. Possession wise it was fairly even but they took their chances and we didn't. Simple as that. They brought about 150 fans, who made a fair bit of noise throughout. The BG no. 9, Ajayi, loked a decent player. Quick and skillful, he gave us problems all afternoon. On this form I expect them to be challenging for the title. However, it would be a travesty if they won it! Chonburi 2 TOT 1 I think you must have caught TOT on a good day, Vinnie. They were awful today. We scored early again but couldn't capitalise. After they equalised I thought that we were set for another frustraing evening. And, I wasn't wrong!! We absolutely dominated but......guess what? Poor finishing let us down. However, justice was done when Kone turned in an Arthit free kick eep into time added on for a TOT defenders blatant time wasting tactic. Sweet About thirty visiting fans in a disappointing crowd which may have just been over 3,000. I guess the timing of the match was the reason for such a poor turnout - our lowest for a couple of seasons. Should be a few more there for the SriRacha v Chonburi Derby a week tomorrow.

SriRacha 0 Chonburi 1
Three more points for Chonburi after our victory in the Derby. A strange game - both teams played some decent stuff but Chonburi were, once again, guilty of failling to capitalise after taking an early lead. We really should be winning these matches a little more comfortably. Kone & Pipob were both guilty of glaring misses that any one of my U11 team would score!!Please sign a striker, Zico!!
It wasn't a particularly dirty game but we saw three red cards in the last ten minutes. Kone (Chon) was a little unfortunate - his first yellow was deserved but the second was more clumsy than malicious. Likewise Anuchar (SR), very unlucky to go. The ref had also forgotten that he'd already cautioned him and there was about a minutes play before someone pointed out his mistake!! On the other hand, Drame's straight red for a vicious assault was the correct punishment.
Kiatprwaut played well at the back and scored. It's great to see him back after such a long time out of the game. I really hope that he can stay fit and make up for lost time. He's a talented player.

A good point for SriRacha today (0-0 away at Muang Thong). An entertaining match played in wretched conditions - although I've seen worse.
The visitors could have taken all three points had Ekachai not hit the bar in the last minute when it was easier to score.

Attapol back in business
By: TOR CHITTINAND Published: 29/04/2009 at 12:00 AM
Thai Premier League side Muang Thong-Nong Chok United appointed Attapol Bussapakom as their new coach yesterday.
He replaced Surasak Tansurat.
Muang Thong manager Robert Proculeur said Attapol was the right man to succeed Surasak, who will take charge of the club's junior side.
Attapol, who resigned as TTM-Samut Sakhon coach recently after poor results, said he aims to steer promoted Muang Thong to the Thai league title.
He admitted that he was under pressure to bring success to Muang Thong, who are a good team and have several decent players.
Muang Thong, one of the best organised football clubs in Thailand, are currently fourth in the 16-team league. They have 13 points from three wins and four draws.
Bangkok Glass are leaders on 17 points with Osotspa second (16) and Chonburi FC third (14).

Chonburi 5 Bangkok United 1
As comfortable as the scoreline suggests. We scored in the first few minutes and then sat back as Utd created a few decent chances before deservedly equalising. However, this seemed to wake up our players and we took back the initiative.
A great solo goal by Nattapong put us 2-1 at half time. A good finish by Kone early in the second half put the result beyond doubt and then the only question was - how many would we score?
We needed to win by a three goal margin to go top (for 24 hours at least) and a super strike by Arthit made it 4-1. We then had a goal disallowed -offside? I couldn't see from the opposite end of the ground.
However, there was still enough time for Anderson to come off the bench to grab the fifth and send us all home happy.
Apart from the result, the highlight for me was seeing Adul return to action. He showed a few good touches in the twenty minutes or so that he was on the pitch.
A large (well behaved) turnout - how nice it is to see all four sides of the ground populated - and a good performance from the team helped to put the problems of the last difficult week behind us.
Roll on next Sunday : )

I watched the game last night (up until the 4th goal). Some good finishing and as you suggested, after the Bangkok equaliser there was only one team in it. I really want to see Chonburi win the league again.

SriRacha 1 Samut Songkhram 2
A fairly even first half but after 45 minutes the teams were seperated by a rather scrappy late goal for the visitors.
The second period started in lively fashion as SriRacha went all out to get the equaliser. However, it was to be Pla Tuna who scored again to make it two nil. At this stage the home side seemed dead and buried as it looked highly unlikely that they would score three goals. Their approach play had been neat all afternoon but the final ball, and their failure to get bodies in the opposing penalty area, had let them down.
The introduction of substitute, William saw a spark of creativity and suddenly it looked like a comeback was on. After pulling a goal back, The Blue Marlin laid siege to the Samut Songkhram goal. The keeper made a couple of great saves and the home forwards were guilty of a couple of glaring misses to keep the score at 1-2.
As the match entered the last twenty minutes I was extremely disappointed with Samut Songkhram's time wasting tactics and flashes of petulance. But, in the end they held out for an undeserved victory.
So, it looks like a long hard season for SriRacha and, on the evidence of today, the visitors too will struggle to maintain their Premier League status.

Im feeling like PEA will go into a really bad place
but i hope BEC win eventhough they keep selling good players and buy terrible players. We need a good player like Kafoumba 2 years ago or maybe get David Le Bras back which of course, hes not going to come back. Our current manager is clueless about wat hes doing.

Samut Songkhram 0 Chonburi 1
A well deserved victory and much more comfortable than the scoreline suggests. After a scrappy opening five minutes, Chonburi settled down and started to play some good stuff. Their passing and movement was fantastic and our defence - Nattapong, Kiatprawut, Suttinan & Suree - looked secure. We had three decent opportunities - the first, an Arthit free kick that rattled the bar, was followed by a shot from Kone, which the keeper got down low to his right to save, and a point blank header from Kiatprawut also saved (somehow!!) by the goalie.
For the second half the home team changed their tactics in order to break up Chonburi's rhythm. Lots of time wasting and feigning injury etc(see above). They even employed the services of a local witch doctor to summon up a big black cloud in the hope of getting the match abandoned. However, after a brief consultation with the two coaches, captains and a FAT representative, the last fifteen minutes were played out in the gloom and the rain.
A free kick from Arthit (who else) won the points with 5 minutes remaining. Maybe the keeper failed to see the ball in the darkness but, when you play at a stadium that has no floodlights, that is the price you pay.
The heavy storm that immediately followed the match couldn't dampen the spirits of the 1200 - 1500 impeccably behaved visiting fans. Even the hour long wait for the buses to come and pick us up didn't seem to matter. A good three points and a great day day out : )
