As boundary lines go, the biggest club in 'Bangkok' at the moment are Thai Port. Hard to see that changing in the near future.

Bangkok Glass pick up their support mainly from Pathum Thani, but there are a number of people who are prepared to make the trek there from Bangkok.

Muangthong are of course able to draw support from Nonthaburi, as well as a fair number of fans from Pathum Thani and Bangkok who will be drawn to the excitement of following a successful team, as well as the chance to watch a pretty decent level of football.

There is certainly room for another 'well supported' team in Bangkok, but it will require something of the marketing success of Muangthong to create a similar set-up within the capital. It's very hard to see the Army, Chula, BEC Tero or any other sides making big strides in the coming season.

Bangkok FC could be that team. They need to go up, though. They would certainly get bigger crowds than BU in Division 1.

I don`t see Bangkok FC as a Bangkok city team. Their stadium is not much closer to the city centre than Bangkok University is.

If a club wants to have the team for all Bangkokians they should play their homegames at the National Stadium. Easy access inside the city centre...

All TPL-games scheduled for the weekend October 9th and 10th are moved to midweek October 13th and 14th. The reason is Thai All Star Team vs Leicester City on Saturday October 9th.

Yeah! They are moving every game because team number 20 in the second level in England is coming to play a game.
I don`t think any Bangkok United players are going to get into the squad for this game, and now the supporters will have to travel to Pattaya on a Wednesday, and that will mean many will miss the game due to work or school.
If we still have a place in TPL 2011 to play for at that time, I think many would have gone to the game on the scheduled Sunday. The supporters are loosing again.

I agree Svein. It's a joke!! The fans have to suffer because of a pointless friendly that nobody gives a sh*t about.

I think it`s Rajamangala. Should be National Stadium, not so big and easy access for more fans. I can not see more than 2-3 thousand people go to this match, so it may be a sad sight at the big Rajamangala Stadium.

Buriram beat Rayong 4-2 today, so if we can beat Sisaket tomorrow, we will be only 3 points from safety. And we`re going to play Rayong later this month.

Chonburi need to shatter Glass
Quote

Chonburi FC need a win at Bangkok Glass today to keep alive their hopes of winning the Thai Premier League title.

Chonburi suffered a shock defeat at bottom side Bangkok United last week and are now five points behind champions Muang Thong United.

Chonburi's assignment looks tough today as they will be without a number of key players including injured goalkeeper Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool and suspended defender Suree Sukha.

"We must get three points. If we don't win, it could mean that the title race is over," said Chonburi coach Jadet Meelarp.

The Sharks' strike force will be led by Ney Fabiano who moved from Bangkok Glass in mid-season, and Jadet hopes the Brazilian scores against his former club.

Glass coach Roberto Carvalho said he is confident that the home crowd and the artificial pitch at Leo stadium will help the Rabbits defeat Chonburi.

Leaders Muang Thong United are not playing this weekend due to their AFC Cup match last Tuesday.

Agreed. It was a pretty good game with both sides creating chances and going close to scoring. Kritsakorn Kerdpol made one outstanding save in the second half to deny Chonburi what seemed like a certain goal.

I think a draw was a fair result in the end and did serious damage to Chonburi's title aspirations.

Both teams needed 3 points but ended up with 1 each. We got a point closer to safety this weekend, but with only 6 more games we may run out of time. I think we can say that 3 of the bottom 4 teams will go down. The others should be safe.
Hopefully Rayong and Army will think more about FA-cup than TPL.

Chonburi stumble in TPL title chase

Quote

Second-placed Chonburi could only manage a goalless draw against Bangkok Glass FC in the Thai Premier League at Leo stadium yesterday.

Chonburi really needed a win to close the gap on league leaders Muang Thong United, who are now four points ahead of them with a game in hand.

Therdsak Chaiman and the Brazilian, Ney Fabiano, both put in good efforts for Chonburi but Bangkok Glass goalkeeper Krissakorn Kerdpol saved well.

In the second half, Bangkok Glass had most of the possession and came close with efforts from Michael Byrne and Chartree Chimtalay.

Any chances Chonburi had of getting three points vanished when Suttinun Phukhom was sent off for a foul on Japan's Saruta and the game finished 0-0.

In a middle-of-the-table clash, Samut Songkhram FC beat Pattaya United 2-0.

On target for the hosts were Panuwat Yimsa-ngar (8th) and Patcharin Suksai (17th).

The struggling Army side remain in trouble after losing 2-1 at home to Police United.

Charkrit Buathong put the Police 1-0 up in the 50th minute before the Army equalised eight minutes later through David Bayeeha. Police grabbed the winning goal just three minutes from time when Tanapat Na Tharua banged the ball home.

A tough relegation battle at Si Sa Ket stadium saw the hosts draw 1-1 with bottom-placed Bangkok United.

Si Sa Ket took the lead in the 33rd minute through Viktor Amaro and should have put the match away, missing several chances.

They were made to pay when Shiek Arbib scored to give Bangkok United a precious point.

TOT will probably be safe if they win vs Army, but if they loose they can get relegated.
Sisaket has the hardest games left of the bottom 5 teams, so they are favourites to go down, and so are Bangkok United because of fewer points.
Army and Rayong meets in the last game of the season and that may be a BIG game for them.

Anyone know why the Sisaket fans were bombarding the ref with missiles after the game? According to the report above they only have themselves to blame for the result.

Interestingly, days after their shameful behaviour in the home match with Buriram, the Thai Port fans didn't throw anything at the ref at Supachalasai Stadium last week. Probably had a lot to do with the fact that (a) they can't throw anything that far and (b) he was a much bigger lad than the average Thai ref and would have had nee problems lumping anyone who decided to come on the pitch and slap him around. More Aussie refs needed in Thailand!

But seriously, what the fudge is going on with Osot. 13 goals in 2 games... it's nearly more than they have scored all season.

Navy torpedo Chonburi's Thai Premier title hopes as they snatch away draw
Quote
Navy Rayong dealt Chonburi's hopes of winning the Thai Premier League title a major blow yesterday when they held the Sharks to a 1-1 draw.

Brazilian striker Ney Fabiano opened the scoring for hosts Chonburi after 25 minutes only for Suttinun Nontee to equalise two minutes later.

Chonburi are now second on 51 points, three behind leaders Muang Thong United. However, the Kirins, who travel to Pattaya United today, have two games in hand.

Osotspa M-150 thrashed relegation strugglers Si Sa Ket 6-3 in Saraburi.

At Samut Songkhram, SCG Samut Songkhram defeated BEC Tero Sasana 1-0 with Ebde Obede scoring the winner in the 52nd minute.

At Yamaha stadium, TOT CAT FC draw 0-0 with Army.

By accident I attended the match between TOT and Army today. I left at half time.

You would have thought it would have been a wise choice watching an all action 6 pointer!!! Not in TPL, big vast difference between the top teams and bottom teams.

I somehow got it in my head that Raj V Songkhla was yesterday (Saturday). The Thunderdome is a good hour from my home by public transport (a lot quicker by taxi but if I take a cab every game, the cost adds up) so by the time I got there and saw the bright orange and blue shirts milling about I figured: "now I'm here, I may as well watch".

It was dire. The crowd are friendly of course but just not my type of football people. Most home fans were passionless, staying silent throughout. The cheering section had two cheerleaders, two megaphones and three drums, far more artillery than Rajpracha but made far less noise. The TOT model girls are probably the most attractive I've seen - even more so than the BG bunny girls - but they do a chat show before the game and at half time which is not my thing. Overall the crowd was about double that of a Raj game.

On the pitch it was sloppy. TOT looked good going forward but made some silly mistakes. For example, their keeper took a standard goal kick and passed to a defender who was not paying attention and the ball went out for an Army throw in!

Army showed some good short range passing as usual but their off the ball movement was very limited and they did not look like a team fighting for their lives. A shame, because like Vinnie I've started to like them a bit since their ruckus with PEA.

So the only incidents of note were a) The Eastern European guy in front of me who seemed to think the farang TOT players were his mates. He kept on yelling at them in Russian (presumably) whenever they got near the ball which was annoying after a while because it was obvious they couldn't hear him. At half time he went to try and talk to them as they left they pitch and all three refused to go and speak to him.

b) At one point Army's number seven stood on the touchline and for no apparent reason kicked out in anger at a water bottle that was not even on the playing area. A few home fans jeered. This escalated tit-for tat until number seven deliberately showed his foot to the home fans including myself, then his other foot, then his first foot again. Totally unprofessional behaviour and totally unnecessary. So while I like Army, I'd like to tell number seven what a tosser he is, too.

Muang Thong battle back to make point with Pattaya
Quote
League leaders Muang Thong United came from two goals behind to scrape a 2-2 draw against Pattaya United yesterday in the Thai Premier League.

Former national star Niweat Siriwong gave Pattaya the lead in the 16th minute at Nong Prue stadium and Cameroonian Ludovick Takam added a second goal just before half-time.

Muang Thong came out attacking in the second half and were rewarded when Adul Kuribali scored with a superb header to make it 2-1.

The defending champions continued to pile on the pressure and made it 2-2 in the 61st minute with a goal from Kone.

Muang Thong pushed for the winner but Pattaya defended strongly to ensure a well-earned draw.

That result comes hot on the heels of main rivals Chonburi's 1-1 draw with Navy on Saturday.

At the Leo stadium, Bangkok Glass FC were shattered by a fine first half display by Buri Ram PEA who had built a 3-0 lead by the interval.

On target for Buri Ram were Kirati Kaewsombut, Suchao Nutnum and Apichate Puttan.

The Glass Rabbits battled to get back into it in the second half but Buri Ram proved too strong.

At Thammasat Rangsit stadium, the host, Police United put on an impressive performance, beating TTM FC Phichit 4-1.

Charkrit Buathong gave the Police a 1-0 lead after 11 minutes before Korea's Chan Sang Wong added the second in the 40th minute. Nantawat Thansopha made in 3-0 in the 57th minute.

Nantawat was on target again with a penalty kick before Valcy Junior scored a consolation goal for the visitors.

Relegation-threatened Bangkok United manageda 1-1 draw against a strong Thai Port side at Bangkok University.

United took the lead in the 63rd minute through Wuthipong Kerdkul before national striker Sarayoot Chaikamdee struck with a last-gasp equaliser in injury time.

Is this game moved to another stadium? Police play at Thammasat University in Rangsit.

I think it's up past Chatuchak in Lak See. But I'm not 100% sure.

Game has been moved because of some national sporting event at Thammasart Stadium.

Glenn, there's a map on the Police Club website's forum. Hope it helps.

Looks like it's on Vipawadee-Rangsit Rd, between sois 60 & 62 (or between Laksi and Kaset Junctions).

From Pattaya, head to Future Park Rangsit and then left into BKK. It's on the left just after Don Muang. It's the actual Police Sports Club Complex. It's just off the main road, quite easy to find.

I reckon you should go to Mor Chit from Pattaya then head up Vipawadee. Yeah the Police Sports complex behind the convention centre type of thing. The stadium is actually pretty good, holds 8000. Wonder why they don't play there all the time.

With just five rounds of matches left, I thought I'd take a look back at all the predictions we made last March. It makes for interesting reading.

And, thankfully, none of us predicted them to finish in the top 4!!

Thanks guys for the info - I have watched the Ruby Sevens at that stadium before - just didn't know the name. Cheers. I actually work at Lak Si - so a quick sprint to the ground after work looks do-able!! Thanks for the advice. Now which Pattaya will turn up - the hapless, can't be bothered, limping, moaning squad of the last 5 games or the all-action non-stop running side who drew with Muang Thong - I think we all know the answer to that - if only our big brothers at Chonburi would pay our lads their bumper bonus for every game - we'd be unstoppable!!!

druryfire and the_englishman did particularly well there, and Sven's top 4 wasn't too bad either.

Just one question: Who is/was Berkant Goktan?

*grrrrr* still angry about him. He was one of the most promesing Turk/German youngsters a couple of years ago. Used to play Galatasary, Bayern Munich and their local rival. But he failed every where he went on, due to his character. Muang Thong more or less was his last chance.  If we would have played regular for MTU, it would have been a boost of interest in Germany about thaifootball.

I translated a big interview with him in two parts, for t.e.'s blog.

You are able to read it here:

http://muangthongunitedfc.blogspot.com/2010/01/goktan-complete-idiots-guide.html

http://muangthongunitedfc.blogspot.com/2010/01/goktan-interview-part-2.html

@ SRS, I just checked my prediction. And I am really close. Wink My words have been:

"1. Berkant Goktan ( if is realy playing for MTU, and I start to doubt that) otherwise than Kengne Ludovick"

Muang Thong march on
Quote
Muang Thong United moved closer to retaining the Thai Premier League title after beating Osotspa M-150 4-1 last night.

A Dagno Siaka hat-trick and a Piyapol Bunthao strike gave the Kirins a comfortable win at Yamaha stadium.

Siaka opened the scoring after just four minutes and added two more goals in the 75th and 79th minutes. Cleton Silva got a consolation for the visitors from the spot after Muang Thong goalkeeper Kawin Thamasatchanan committed a foul in the area and was sent off in the dying moments.

At PAT stadium, Thai Port FC lost 2-1 to second-placed Chonburi FC. The Sharks went 2-0 ahead from goals by Pipob On-mo in the 24th minute and Ney Fabiano in the 60th minute before Sarayoot Chaikamdee pulled a goal back for the home team in the 68th minute.

Insee Police United were held to a 2-2 draw by Pattaya United. Chayanan Pombupha gave the home side the lead in the 32nd minute only for Ludovick Takam to equalise for Pattaya 10 minutes later.

Police went ahead again when Jakkraphan Pornsai hit the target in the 65th minute but Thana Chanaboot earned a point for Pattaya five minutes from time.

In yesterday's other matches, Navy Rayong drew 1-1 with Bangkok United, TTM Phichit were held to a scoreless draw by bottom side Bangkok Glass, BEC Tero Sasana edged TOT-CAT 1-0 and Army lost 3-2 to SCG Samut Songkhram.
