For whatever reason that PFF decided to hire Simon Mcmenemy who doesn't even have a B-Coaching License which speaks a lot about the licenses by taking the team beyond anyone including himself had expected. The rumour of PFF acquiring Michael Weiss, a  German coach with the help of DFB had hit the cyberspace and reached McMenemy before a courtesy call from PFF representative had a chanch to informed him and he's not too happy about it. Although McMenemy could have seen it coming as the new president of PFF had publically announced he will seek the help of DFB as soon as he was declared as the replacement to serve the remaining term of Mari Martinez who got booted by the votes. In the case of McMenemy vs PFF although the team manager had later called him to apologize but the damage had already been done especially in McMenemy's point of view. Welcome to Asean football saga.

I still want to know is Simon Mcmenamy son of the great Lawrie Mcmenamy? Lawrie achieved great things in the game.
It's a relatively rare surname and the ages work out well but it could just be coincidence.
I'll have to get JC to try and interview him.

FILI PREPARE SEA GAMES 2011 SQUAD; WEISS REPLACES McMENEMY
Quote

MANILA (9 Jan 2011) – Philippines are preparing for their first SEA Games football team since 2005 following the euphoric performance of the national team at the AFF Suzuki Cup last month.

The Fili football team last took part at the SEA Games – which is for players under the age of 23-years-old – in 2005 when they were hosts. But with only a handful of players available under the age restriction, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) will have to carry out try outs to find new talents.

Only six players will be available for the 2011 SEA Games in Indonesia and they are 20-year-old custodian Neil Etheridge, Jason de Jong, Manny Ott, Mark Drinkuth and University of Santo Tomas standout David Basa. National team manager Dan Palami said that they will have to form a new team for the biennial meet.

“We are still to decide who will make up the team although the six players will form the core of the team,” said Palami. In the meantime, Palami said that the PFF will not extend the contract of British coach Simon McMenemy which expired on 31 December 2010.

“We have had discussion with Simon before, especially as he has yet to get his license (UEFA coaching license) for the different tournaments that we’re going to participate in this coming year,” explained Palami.

“While he (McMenemy) is doing that (acquiring the UEFA certificate), the German federation came in and offered their assistance, included in the package would be a high-level German coach that they would want the Philippines to take.”

The 45-year-old Hans Michael Weiss will replace McMenemy.

“He (Weiss) is highly-experienced and knowledgeable and he has a UEFA license. This ushers in a new era for the Azkals and will certainly give us better results,” said Palami.

Palami added that the German Football Federation  (DFB) made the offer after seeing the Azkals’ performance in the recent Suzuki Cup.

“They’re willing to coach the Azkals in their training camps in Germany and they’re willing to do the scouting for potential players for the national team all over Europe. And they’re doing it for free. They are willing to send over the team to a European camp so that we could strengthen further our chances,” he said .

ASSISTANCE POURS IN FOR PHILIPPINES FA
Quote
MANILA (12 Jan 2011) – Other than the extended assistance from the German FA (DFB), the Philippines Football Federation (PFF) have also received further support from several Middle East countries and Japan.

Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait have agreed to provide a combined USD100,000 annual assistance for the PFF.

“The aid is a big boost to our quest to improve and popularize the sport further following the success of the Azkals at the recent AFF Suzuki Cup where they advanced to the semis for the first time,” said PFF president Mariano Araneta.

Other than finance, the three countries concerned have also assured the PFF that they will be willing to play host to the training camps of the Azkals, in their respective countries. The airfare and board and lodging of the Azkals will be shouldered by the host country, according to the PFF.

Araneta said that the USD100,000 initial funding had already been sent to the PFF while at the same time, he also revealed that the Japan FA (JFA) have also pledged a further USD20,000 for grassroots development.

He also announced that the PFF had already received USD150,000 from the Indonesia FA (PSSI) for their share of gate receipts in the two AFF Suzuki Cup semi-final matches in Jakarta Cup last month.

In the meantime, Araneta said that the much-awaited AFC Challenge Cup match against Mongolia on 9 February will be free for the public at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City. The Panaad Stadium has a capacity of 10,000 .

AFF Suzuki Cup 2011 gave him splendid resume and qualifiqation of the next coaching education applicant. The golden opportunity is in his hands. Do not feel bad about how it's ended with the Philippines because anyway you look at it, it has to end on the technicality. Good luck!
