3rd/4th playoff: South Korea 3-2 Uzbekistan
Another shocker from Uzbekistan in the first half saw them down 3-0. A soft penalty just before halftime gave them hope, and they played much better in the 2nd half, scoring another at about 55 minutes. Korea tired visibly in the last 30 minutes and were happy to sit back and defend.

Aaargh, think Australia should have scored about 5 but I know "should have" is just not good enough.
Congrats to Japan and another step forward for Aussie football to reach the final.

JFA chief predicts bright future for Japan Doha: Japan Football Association president Junji Ogura feels that the future is very bright for his country’s national team after they claimed their record fourth AFC Asian Cup title on Saturday.
The Samurai Blue arrived in Qatar with a youthful squad that included 11 players under the age of 25 and which had had little time for preparation under coach Alberto Zaccheroni, who had only taken charge of two Japan friendly matches before the AFC Asian Cup began.
But after narrowly avoiding defeat against Jordan in the opening match in Doha, they stormed through the rest of the tournament and lifted the trophy for the fourth time in six editions with a 1-0 extra-time win over Australia at the Khalifa Stadium.
Speaking after the win, an overjoyed Ogura stressed the importance of winning the title with a fairly new-look team.
“We have been training very hard and the players on this team are not the same as the ones who played the last time that we won the Asian Cup,” he said.
“Apart from Yasuhito Endo, none of the players here were on our last squad to win the Asian Cup in 2004, so we have developed many good players. Most of them were training together for the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and now they have grown up and they have won us the Asian Cup for a fourth time.
“Our coaches have done a very good job to develop the players and we hope that they will continue to be successful. Our next target for them now is to qualify for the next World Cup in Brazil but these players are very young so we are expecting that we will have a good team for 2014.”
Ogura also hailed the job done by Zaccheroni, who took charge of the team last August after the departure of Takeshi Okada after the World Cup in South Africa.
“He has a lot of experience managing big clubs like AC Milan and Juventus but this is the first time that he has worked with a national team,” Ogura said of the 57-year-old Italian.
“But he has shown a lot of passion of working with the players and growing them up as a national team and that is why he was so successful.”
Awards :
Man of the final match : Eiji Kawashima ( Japan ). Top goal scorer : Koo Ja Cheol ( South Korea ) . Most Valuable Player : Keisuke Honda ( Japan ) . Fair Play Award : South Korea .
Looking back all what the Japanese has been doing these years . We have to admit they are the best in Asia : Besides the victory last night , their men and women won 2 crowns in Asian Games 2010 , the national team entered the 1/16 round in World Cup 2010 , not including their futsal teams are also very good . Bye bye the Socceroos , bye bye some familiar names : Tim Cahill , Mark Viduka , Lucas Neill , Mark Schwarzer , Brett Emerton , Harry Kewell … See you again in 2015 .

Given the occasion and given the time the goal came, it was an almost unbelieveably well-controlled finish (even if he was completely unmarked). Harry Kewell showed why he is no longer playing in the Premier League, and it was good to see the Asian team win the Asian Cup.
