Today :

Thailand - China 3-0 !

Taught them a lesson Jonny, all they need to do is overcome Australia to qualify for the final.

Goalscorers today: Nirunrit Jaroensuk  with 2, and apparently a thorn in the side of China and Kroekrit Thawikan

Hosts Thailand gave themselves a lifeline for a chance to play in the grand final when they beat China 3-0 in the second game of the evening.

China were the early aggressors when Piao Cheng tested Thai custodian Samuel Por Cunningham with a volley in the seventh minute before Zhang Jian delivered a futile hearer off a cross from Wang Liang five minutes later.

That failure to score saw Thailand going forward and in the 14th minute, they created their first real chance off a cross from Nirunrit Jaroensuk which saw no takers as the ball went past a yawning goalmouth.

But in the 28th minute Nirunrit, who has been a thorn the whole night long against the Chinese defence with his darting runs, finally broke the deadlock when he headed in the lead for Thailand from the far post off a corner from Kroekrit Thawikan.

China attempted to get back into the match in the closing stages of the first half with a double attempt but Cunningham was there to deny the Chinese as the score remained to the advantage of the hosts at the break.

The second half saw Thailand playing a more patient game as they pushed China to take more of the early initiative but instead they fell further behind in the 58th minute when Kroekrit blasted in a grounder off a rebound.

Zhang Jian created a chance for himself at the hour mark but his grounder was denied by Cunningham while ten minutes later, a stinger from Piao Cheng failed to find its intended target.

In the 74th minute, Thailand wrapped up the game in their favour when Nirunrit beat the off-side trap for his second goal of the evening.

The hosts will now need to beat Australia in their next game if they hope to play in the final game of the tournament.
Bravo Thailand

In the meantime, the AFF Under-19 Championship scheduled for 4-16 August 2009 in Vietnam will still be held as planned since there has been no request from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) for a change.

3 BIDS TO HOST AFC U-19 CHAMPIONSHIP 2010

China, Thailand and Indonesia have offered to host the AFC U-19 Championship 2010 Finals (1-16 November).

According to the AFC Statutes (Article 10.1) the tournament is to be hosted in the East.

The deadline for AFC’s Member Associations to signal their intention to host was June 11, 2009.

The next step will involve inspections of the venues between September-October 2009 before the final decision is taken by the AFC Competitions Committee at its meeting in November 2009.

The qualifiers for the AFC U-19 Championship run from November 1-15 this year.

It's good to see that Thailand are showing an interest in the event.

My concern being though, is that the decision is made before the qualifiers are made, in previous editions of the youth tourrnament, the AFC normally award the hosting rights after qualification has been made - in this instance not all groups would have finished (some go on until December - not what this press release states).

Also, it's no hidden secret that China have it in the bag, and for the last couple of years news via other forums has strongly suggested that they have it already in the bag.  But lets wait and see.

For the record though, Thailands qualification group is being played in Thailand at the Rajamangla and Thai Army Stadiums, so get there if you can.

GREAT START FOR THAILAND AND VIETNAM
HO CHI MINH CITY (4 August 2009) – Thailand and Vietnam got just the start they wanted in the AFF Under-19 Championship as they each picked up full points over their respective opponents to put them on a confident mood for their second match in two days.

In Group A, Thailand sidestepped Cambodia 3-0 as Singapore held Australia to a 1-1 draw in the other match of the day.

In Group B, hosts Vietnam edged Malaysia 2-0 while for Myanmar they were awarded with a 3-0 win for a walkover following the failure of Timor Leste to turn up for their tie.

But the rain which has been steadily hitting the city for the past week affected the quality of the matches being played.

At the Thong Nhat Stadium, the Thais who have been steadily building up to this tournament over the last two weeks, scored their first goal of the game in the 41st minute through Adisak Krisorn for the 1-0 lead at the half.

But Cambodia held fast after the break but as the match wore on under constant Thai pressure, their desperation saw defender Thong Oudom being red carded in the 57th minute.

With the advantage, Sarach Yooyen then carved the second goal for Thailand in the 73rd minute before Natthawut Khamrin wrapped things up with the third and final goal of the evening six minutes to the end.

Hosts Vietnam found Malaysia a hard nut to crack in the first half and only prised open their opponent’s defence two minutes after the break through Nguyen Dinh Bao.

In the match that saw a flurry of cards being flashed, Vietnam captain Nguyen Van Quyet then sealed the points for the homesters with the second goal just a minute after the hour mark.

Over at the Thang Long Mini Stadium, it was Australia who created the first real chance of the game when in the fifth minute, Joshua McVey took a shot from close range which was parried by Singapore custodian Neezam Abdul Razak.

Neezam was again in his element four minutes later as this time he blocked Cameron Edwards’ attempt for a futile corner.

Singapore’s best chance of the half was in the 12th minute but striker Khairul Nizam Kamal could not beat Australian keeper Mark Birighitti.

In the 20th minute of play, Australia finally went in front when McVey delivered a cross for the unmarked Eli Babalj to head home from close range.

The game went into higher after that but it failed to change the scoreline at the break.

Singapore came out stronger in the second half and in the 65th minute, they finally found the equaliser when an incisive pass from Syafiq Zainal was picked up by Khairul Nizam who blasted it past Birighitti for the well-deserved equaliser.

In the78th minute, Mohd Shakir hamzah was red carded for an off the ball incident against Australia’s McVey.

“We created a lot of chances in the first half and we should have scored several goals,” said Johannes Versleijen, the head coach for Australia.

Replied Salim Moin, the head coach for Singapore: “we were better in the second half and if it had not been for the red card, perhaps we could have won the match.”

In the meantime, Myanmar picked up the full three points without having to kick a ball when Timor Leste failed to make it to the game.

The Timorese will arrive only later in the night

HO CHI MINH CITY (6 August 2009) – Australia were held for the second time in the on-going AFF Under-19 Championship when they gave up the lead for a 1-1 draw against Thailand in a Group A match at the Thong Nhat Stadium.

Following a first half deadlock, Peter Franjic put Australia in front in the 84th minute before Chakrit Ravanprakon grabbed the one point for Thailand when he slammed home the equaliser in injury time.

The draw was Australia’s second following their 1-1 score against Sinagpore two days earlier.

For Thailand, they are comfortable in Group A with four points from two matches.

Perhaps there is a confusion of the player name who scored for Thailand . Look here :

In the other game at the same venue, Thailand stole a point in the last minute through captain Surachet Ngamtip.
Australia had earlier scored in the 84th minute through Peter Franjic .

VIETNAM BOOK SEMIS BERTH, SIX RED CARDS SERVED
Quote
HO CHI MINH CITY (6 August 2009) – Hosts Vietnam came from behind to defeat Myanmar and sensationally secure their place in the semi-finals of the AFF Under-19 Championship here on a day of top class action and drama at both venues.

A total of 18 goals were recorded on the score sheets which also saw six red cards being listed.

While Vietnam are comfortably through, Malaysia and Myanmar will have to battle it out for the other spot in Group B in two days.

In Group A, Thailand, Australia and Singapore all picked up points to remain on the run for the two semi-final slots.

At the Thanh Long Sports Complex this afternoon, striker Thamil Arasu Ambumanee was the toast of the Malaysian side when he blasted five goals – two of them from the spot – as his team whipped 8-man Timor
Leste 7-1.

Thamil scored in the 18th (pen), 33rd, 73rd(pen), 84th and 87th minutes.

Malaysia’s other goals came from Mohamad Fandi Othman(24th) and Mohd Fadhli Mohd Shas (82nd).

Timor Leste meanwhile lost their first player in the 70th minute when goalkeeper Ramos Saozinho Ribeiro was sacked for punching a floored Thamil Arasu in the box.

Six minutes later, Lamberto Gama picked up a second booking and was sent off by referee Allan Martinez.

Timor were dealt a nasty blow when Jose Carlos Fonseca picked a bad leg injury in the 76th minute and could not continue playing.

Timor had by then used up all their substitutions which meant that they were down to only eight players for the last 14 minutes of the game.

In the other match at this venue, Singapore battled back from a goal down in the 17th minute from Prak Mony Udom to seal a crucial 3-1 win over Cambodia.

Singapore charged back with goals from Md Syafiq Md Zainal (57th), skipper Md Safuwan Baharudin (79th) and Md Zulfahmi Md Arifin (91st).

The defeat was Cambodia’s second and they are out of the running.

But their loss today came at a heavy price when reserve goalkeeper Sou Yaty who replaced first choice Peng Bunchay in the 81st minute was taken away in an ambuland after dislocating his shoulder.

Sou had pulled off a brilliant save but crashed heavily on the pitch.

At the Thong Nhat Stadium, Myanmar have to blame themselves for their 3-1 loss to Vietnam.

Myanmar had four players sent off and completed the match with only 7 players on the pitch.

Myanmar were leading from a Myaw Ko Ko’s goal in the 38th minute when they allowed their emotions to get the better of them.

They lost goal scorer Ko Ko in the 44th minute before Myat Naing Aung and Aung Zaw Lin followed suit barely a minute later.

Despite being down, Myanmar held their ground and Vietnam only managed to level the score in the 59th minute through Nguyen Dinh Bao.

Ha Minh Tuan doubled the score in the 70th minute before Nguyen Van Quyet sealed their place in the semis with the third goal in injury time.

Myanmar’s fourth sacking took place in the 83rd minute when Tin Win Aung was booked for a second time .

Gosh ! Myanmar is the most abrupt team in ASEAN !  Angry

Yes , Thailand will face Malaysia . This is the great chance to revenge the lost in 2007   Grin
THAILAND TAKE ON MALAYSIA
Quote
Thailand snuffed out Singapore’s hope of a place in the next round with a slim 1-0 win at the Thong Nhat Stadium.
The only goal in the game came off Adisak Krisorn in the 77th minute.
It was an equally matched game with both sides having their share of possession.
But while the Singapore defence held fast to push the Thais back, one costly mistake at the back led to the goal.
In the 77th minute, Singapore defence lost the ball and Adisak picked it up before slipping it past defender Azfar Zainal Abidin and tipped the
ball over the onrushing keeper Md Neezam Abdul Aziz.
With the win, the Thais will take on Malaysia, who edged out Myanmar 2-0 in their final Group B match at the Thanh Long Stadium.

THAILAND-AUSTRALIA FINAL IN U19 MEET

Quote
HO CHI MINH CITY (10 August 2009) – Thailand will take on Australia in the final of the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Under-19 Championship on Wednesday at the Thong Nhat Stadium.
Thailand edged Malaysia 1-0 in the first semi-finals while Australia overcame hosts Vietnam 4-1 in the second semi-finals that was played today.
But the Malaysians had no one to blame for the defeat but themselves when they failed to make good on several clear chances early in the first half-half to hand the initiative to the Thais.
In the 11th minute, an incisive pass from Gary Robbat saw Thamil Arasu unleashing a shot which forced a fingertip save from Thai custodian Ukrit Wong meena.
Thailand replied with a shot from Ponlachai Hongthong following a cross from captain Surachet Ngamtip which was saved by Malaysia’s Mohd Khairul Izzuwan.
Within the space of the next ten minutes, the Malaysians had two of their attempts coming off the woodwork while Thailand finished the half with a dipping shot from Anucha Suksai.
We had our chances but if we do not convert them, then we can’t blame anyone,” said Ong Kim Swee, the Malaysian head coach.
Thailand started the second half stronger and in the 55th minute, they duly grabbed the lead off a superbly taken free kick from Surachet.
In the 64th minute, Thailand almost doubled their lead when Chakrit Ravanprakon unleashed a stinger from the edged of the Malaysian box only to see it going past the crossbar.
The Malaysians then ended the afternoon with the sending off of defender Mohd Fadhli Shas for picking up his second yellow card in the same game.
We did not play well in the first half but we were better in the second. Now we have to prepare better for the final,” said Chalermvud Sangnapol, the head coach of Thailand .

HO CHI MINH CITY (12 August 2009) – Thailand won the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Under-19 Championship when they edged out Australia 3-2 in the penalty-shootout at the Thong Nhat Stadium.

The score at the end of regulation and extra time was 2-2 with the Australians coming back twice.

In the meantime, hosts Vietnam emerged third in the competition when they whitewashed Malaysia 3-0.

It was a pretty good testimony for both sides considering how the Austrian felt having a big W slipped away
in the dying seconds when these two teams played during their group stage.

The Australians returning a favor to send the game into extra time. They tied it up again as the Thai about to walk away with the trophy. It was excellent efforts from both sides.

Thailand's goalie was incredible the way he played a mental game with  his opponents and made them send three balls where he wanted them to.

Ukrit the hero as Thais claim AFF title

Quote
HO CHI MINH CITY - Thailand enjoyed a massive boost ahead of their hosting of the 2010 AFC U19 Championship qualifiers in November as goalkeeper Ukrit Wongmeena saved three penalties to defeat Australia in the final of the AFF (ASEAN Football Federation) Under 19 Championship on Wednesday.
Ukrit denied Jason Davidson, Eli Babalj and Dylan McGowan as the Thais defeated the defending champions 3-2 in the shootout after the sides were locked at 2-2 at the end of extra-time.
Natthawut Khamrin opened the scoring in the 69th minute only for defender McGowan, who is on the books of Scottish Premier League side Hearts, to level for the Young Socceroos in the dying seconds of regulation-time.
Adisak Krisorn restored Thailand’s advantage in the 101st minute only for Australia to stage a late comeback for the second time in the match with Jared Lum equalising in stoppage-time.
But the Thais were not to be denied and Apisit Khamwang, Piyarat Lajungreed and skipper Surachet Ngamtip, who scored the winner over Malaysia in the semi-finals and in the 1-1 draw with the Australians in the group stage, all on target in the shootout.
"It was a really good competition for us even though we did not defend the title we won last year." said Australia coach Jan Versleijen.
" The players are all new and we will have some time to develop themfor the AFC qualifiers. But Thailand played really well on the day and they deserved to win the crown."
Australia travel to Jakarta for their AFC U19 Championship qualifiers where they will face hosts Indonesia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore in Group F while Thailand host Group E and entertain Bangladesh, Korea Republic, Laos, Macau and Vietnam, who took third in the AFF event with a 3-0 victory over Malaysia .

A very well victory for Thailand , other ASEAN teams can see what Thailand did yesterday and know how to blockade Australia ( although this year they are not too strong   Wink )

With the rain continuing much into the second match of the day, the quality of football being played continued to get a battering.
And considering the importance of the game for both teams, it came as no surprise that a hatful of yellow cards were flashed by referee Midi Setiyano in the first half of the game alone.

Chances were far and in between as both teams struggled to get a footing at the centre of the park although Thailand eventually carved their first goal of the game just four minutes after the restart when Natthawut made good on a corner from Ponlachai Hongthong to flick the ball into the Vietnam net.

Vietnam stepped up their game soon afterwards and pressed the Thais hard but it was not until the 76th minute that the game finally brought cheer to the home team following the introduction of substitute Van Thanh.

Coming in place of the injured Nguyen Dinh Bao, the lanky Van Thanh nodded home the equaliser following a corner which was taken by Le Thai Quang.

“We deserve to get the draw. We played hard in the second half and in the last ten minutes we should have scored the second goal with the chances that we had,” said Vietnam coach Trieu Quang Ha .

AUSTRALIA TO TAKE ON THAILAND IN U19 FINAL
Quote
In the match that could have gone either way, neither Thailand nor South Korea showed the determination to warrant the full points as they battled to a scoreless stalemate.  The heavy downpour just before the start of the game certainly did not help things as both teams struggled to show any real domination at the centre of the park. Chances were few in between with South Korea perhaps having the better effort although the free header from Lee Jong Ho early in the first half could have seen a better finish . And while Thailand were just glad to be in their second final in two years, chief coach Chalermvud Sangnapol realised that they will have their work cut out for them to retain the crown.

“It will be tough as always playing against a physical team like Australia but we are ready,” he said.

“For me, the more important thing is for the players to show quality instead of just aiming to win the title.”

LATE BABALJ WINNER GIVES AUSTRALIA U19 CROWN
Quote

HO CHI MINH CITY (30 July 2010) - Australia won their second AFF Under-19 Championship in three years when they beat Thailand 1-0 in the final that was played at the Thong Nhat Stadium - courtesy of a late goal from Eli Babalj nine minutes to the end.

With the score at a stalemate at the half and seemingly heading towards extra-time, Babalj pounced on a poor Thai clearance to give Australia the lead and what in the end turned out to be the winner.

“It will not be a final if it was an easy game,“ said Johannes Versleijen, the chief coach of Australia afterwards.

“And I must say that we were lucky to score the goal late in the game although we are happy to win the championship this year.

“I must thank the AFF, the VFF and also the sponsors for making this tournament possible. It is an important tournament for youth development.“

Playing in their repeat final of 2009 in which the Thais won the penalty shootout, it was Australia who dictated the pace early in the game.

And it did not take them long to test the Thai defence when in the seventh minute, Mathew Leckie nodded in a corner which forced a superb block from Thai keeper Wasan Narsuan.

In the 22nd minute, Australia pushed forward once again but an attempt from Mohamad Mustafa Amini was blocked by an outsretched Mark Birighitti.

The Thais tried to push forward through Ponlachai Honthong and Visarut Naingan but Australia stood firm at the back as the game stood scoreless at the break.

With Thailand’s best chance in the game coming in only in the 63rd minute of play when Pattana Sokjoho broke through, his try narrowly missed the upright.

That failure to score would cost them dearly as in the 81st minute, Wasan’s failure to catch the ball from a cross saw Pittayat Mangkata making a poor clearance which Babalj did not need a second invitation to pounce for the goal.

“We tried to make things hard for Australia but it did not happen,” added Thai chief coach Chalermvud Sangnapol.

“But at least the boys played a hard game and the goal they scored was our mistake.”

It will be interesting to see how deep Malasia's bench is. Our youth are too busy trying to play catch up game in paid adult leagues. That's football develoment in FAT's vision. Worawi should be taken the  golden parachute and enjoy his retirement in Dubai by the tournament time.

AFF UNDER-19: THAILAND ARE CHAMPS AFTER EDGING VIETNAM IN SHOOTOUT

Quote

[font=VNI-TimesYANGON (21 Sept 2011) – Thailand, down to 10-men from the 58th minute onwards, confidently held on to gun down Vietnam 5-3 in the shootout and claim the AFF Under-19 Championship title at the Youth Training Centre here tonight.

The score after 90 minutes was 1-1 and it did not change after extratime, forcing the game into the dreaded shootout.

While the Thais were celebrating their success, the Vietnamese were sore at the way things turned out for them. Decisions that did not go their way in the first half and again during the shootout left the Vietnamese players and officials red-faced at the end of the match.

The first incident took place in the first half when referee Nagor Amir Noor Mohamed twice ordered the penalty to be re-taken. The second was for the deciding fifth penalty kick which Vietnam had to save to remain in the fight.

Vietnam keeper Nguyen Son Hai saved the shot but was judged to have moved off his line before the kick, resulting in the re-take. Perapat Notchaiya made no mistake the second time and Thailand went on to win the title.

Earlier, Vietnam made it tough for themselves when Nguyen Minh Hai’s opening penalty was saved by Watchara Buathong. Vietnam never recovered and had to settle for the silver. In an earlier playoff, Malaysia defeated Myanmar 4-2, also in a shootout, to take the bronze.

For Vietnam, the game should have been settled within regulation. They should be upset with themselves for not taking advantage of being one player up after Jaturong Pimkoon was sent off for a second booking just before the hour mark.

The first half was interrupted in the 14th minute, not by a heavy downpour but a protest from the Vietnam bench. Referee Nagor had awarded a penalty to Thailand after the Vietnam goalkeeper Nguyen Son Hai fouled a Thai player.

Pakorn Parmpak was spot on with his kick but Nagor ordered a re-take. Pakorn took the penalty again but this time it was saved. Nagor however ordered it to be re-taken again as the Vietnam goalkeeper had apparently come off his line before the kick. At this point, the Vietnam officials called their players off the pitch.

For some 12 minutes the officials argued by the pitch side. It took the intervention of tournament Head of Delegation, U Zaw Zaw, who is also the president of the Myanmar FA, to end the impasse. Both teams agreed to play on and Thailand’s Athit Wisetsilpa easily converted the penalty.

But the drama was not over yet as Vietnam almost immediately charged back and struck the equaliser through ace striker Ngueyn Xuan Nam. The situation was still somewhat tense forcing Nagor to book two Thai players, Adison Promrak and Jaturong before the interval. Jaturong would later regret his silly booking which he picked up for arguing with the referee.

The 15-minute break saw cooler head prevail in the second half. The players were more clearly composed and were focussed on the game. That turned the final exciting as both sides worked their way forward in the hunt for more goals.

Unfortunately, it never came and the game was forced into extratime. Prior to that, both Vietnam and Thailand had several close calls. Thailand suffered a setback in the 58th minute when Jaturong tackled the Vietnam keeper and was booked a second time.

In the dying minutes, Thailand had their best chance to seal it but Narakorn, who had already beaten the keeper, could not muster a strong enough shot and it was cleared well before it crossed the line.

Both teams were pushing hard in extratime but were not able to finish off each other. And after 120 minutes of slogging on the pitch, the game was to be decided in the shootout.
