I think FIFA is a wonderful organisation, which only has the best interests of the game at heart. They were absolutely correct in their decision to award the World Cup to Russia and Qatar and I'm sure they looked at all the bids carefully before making this informed choice.

Sepp Blatter is a warm, caring human being and I'd like to see him remain in his position for as long as possible. The rest of the FIFA committee should also receive some sort of recognition for the magnificent job they do.

In addition, I'd like to add that Shakin' Stevens is better than Elvis, Oasis were superior to the Beatles and Emile Heskey is the greatest ever England striker.

SRS, I was drinking coffee when read your reply.

I agree with your general opinion of the organization.
It should be rewarded with a piece of land to locate its Headquarter.
Alcatraz came to mind. It has existing facility with a magnificent view of
sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge and away from interference of
any country's laws and code of ethics.

FIFA has followed the path of several communes or society that ended up self distructed due to greed, selfishness and misuse of power. One could have seen this coming from miles away. For those who followed FIFA rather closely, they would have known the organization needs to be improved before facing the doomed day. Mohamed Bin Hammam with 48 Asian Confederation votes is no doubt the #1 contender for Blatter's position as head of FIFA. This why Blatter went to see Hammam in Doha as well as awarded hosting Futsal World Cup to one of Hammam's closed associate. WC2022 for not challenging Blatter in the up coming election at the top layer of FIFA's power. Now that Qatar has been chosen, I hope Hammam turns around and betray Blatter announce his candidacy. As for boycoting, if it happen, the damage will be so huge that FIFA mystic will gone forever. First step should be that Euro and CONCACAF jointly send a stern message to Blatter after locally get rid of Warner which is very easy if US Canada and Mexico would

Things are getting more interesting at the house, FIFA's house that is. Perhaps it was Sepp Blattard.. I meant Blatter :-) who adopted FAT's approach this time  as he announces that a committee will be form to oversee corruption within FIFA understandably prompted by criticism the agency has endured capitalized by World Cup hosts selection saga. Weeks ago Franz Beckenbauer came out criticising FIFA on how voting results was made public after he was told otherwise. Now our very own AFC boss Mohammed Bin Hammam express his displease with Blatter for his abruptly announcing of a new commission. Hammam has more than one reason to come out swinging. For one his involvement in savy football management such as financial investigation of Philippines Football Federation a couple of years back could be scrutinized by this new committee. But most importantly and dispite rewarded with WC2022 hosting to his home land for whatever Blatter and himself agreed upon, he still won't abandon the idea Challenging for Blatter's st

Yes, he did BKK73 and I did so in hope that Hammam would allow him to run for his conceivable last and final term uncontested.

I've always been a fan of staging the World Cup in England during the winter months. Group games at Boundary Park, Oldham on a freezing cold January evening, with the wind whistling down from the Pennines. That would sort out some of these fancy dan footballers from warmer climes. Smiley

I think the current Oldham team are as good as Qatar. How can you take them seriously when they lose 2-0 at home to Uzbekistan.

Rudi Voeller was quoted in an interview from today, that he likes to reform the German season calendar. If the 2022 is play in Wintertime, he see this as chance to make such a change and play all year long from February to November in Germany. His argument, you have spring, summer and autumn. The most convinient time to watch and play football.

World Cup work boon for Thais
Quote
Tens of thousands of Thai workers are expected to be recruited to Qatar to help build the stadiums and infrastructure for the 2022 football World Cup, says the vice-minister of Labour Yuph Nana.

''Most Thai workers in the Middle East are currently employed in Qatar and Kuwait, but their numbers are going to increase very soon following Qatar winning the bid to host the 2022 World Cup,'' Mr Nana said in an exclusive interview with the Bangkok Post Sunday. ''Thais will build the required new cities, stadiums, housing complexes and many other things.

''Work on the project has to begin soon, so they have to hire many workers from all over the world, especially from Asia.

''But the skilled workers will come mostly from Thailand, with unskilled labourers coming from other countries.''

Mr Nana said a memorandum of understanding to allow a total of 54,000 Thais to work in the oil-rich state was being considered by both countries but had not yet been ratified.

There are already 13,000 Thais working in Qatar in the construction sector, helping build the new international airport and an oil refinery and in related sectors.

In April, Qatar announced that it had given approval for the total number of Thai workers in the country to be increased to 54,000, which was awaiting formal approval.

Qatar stunned the world last month when it won the right to stage the World Cup over more fancied rivals.

Qatar stunned the sporting world in December when the wealthy country of just 1.5 million people won the right to stage the world's most-watched sporting event from its more fancied rivals; the United States, Australia, Japan and South Korea.

Apart from building 12 new stadiums and 70,000 hotel rooms, Qatar will spend US$25 billion (762 billion baht) on a rail network, $5.5 billion on a deep water seaport, $11 billion on a new international airport and $20 billion on new roads.

Mr Nana, a Muslim, also said he was trying to smooth relations between Thailand and Saudi Arabia, which has stopped the flow of Thai migrant workers.

Diplomatic relations were downgraded after a Thai worker stole jewellery from the Saudi royal household 20 years ago and several Saudi diplomats subsequently disappeared in Thailand.

Mr Nana said he had been working with Nabil H Ashri, charge d'affaires of the Saudi Arabian embassy in Bangkok, to solve the problem. ''Mr Nabil Ashri has been trying very hard during recent years,'' Mr Nana said. Mr Nana, is the grandson of the late Lek Nana, the ''king of Bangkok Landlords'', who served in several senior government positions and was secretary-general of the Democrat Party.

It might sound like an obscure country, but Uzbekistan is one of the best teams in Asia outside of the big three.

Is it possible to switch FAT head and Labour Department's head? The labour force could conceivably bring in more cash than a first rounder football team. So, Let's focus on the right trade, shall we? :-)

I work with an Uzbekistani and he also says they are probably the 4th best team in Asia and fully expects them to get to the semis at least. He also says even better things are expected as the youth team is very highly rated.

Definitely between 4th and 8th. The FIFA rankings are currently even more of a joke than usual: China are ranked sixth in Asia!  26th would be nearer the reality!
