I heard by someone that he wanted to let his place for younger players as he is already 29 years old.
Yes , he - himselft - said that . 29 is not very old . What a pity  !
Nirut and other Thai players like Thonglao , Sakda Joemdee are playing for Hoang Anh Gia Lai . The Vietnam coach has never talked about him so I think he is not in his player list .

I don't understand... Nirut in Vietnam coach player list?
Maybe you don't know it but i tell you again, a player can't change national team!
For example, Bojan is serbian-spanish.
He just begin to play for Spain in World Cup qualifications so he can't be in Serbia team anymore although he also has Serbia nationality. You understand?

I understood what you wrote and your example but you didn't understand this sentences    Huh?
The important thing now is to find another who can replace Nirut position well in Thai team .

No doubt thailand are the most successful and still relatively ahead of the other team in asean. Nevertheless other teams especially Singapore are catching up with us.There many reasons contributed to the backward of the thai national  team.We do not have the experienced player like in the past (surachai Tawan Kiatisak Dusit) to guide the younger player on the field . We are now still in the process of transition.I think that in no less than two years time we will be the untouchable of the asean again.By then this group of players will face the challenge which the golden generation(1998 to 2002) fail to do  and that is to bring the result beyond asean.

Without wishing to bring politics on to this board, does anyone think that the current situation could have implications for the tournament?

With large crowds expected at the matches more civil disorder is a real possibility.

And who knows what is likely to happen between now and the 6th December.

I hope that the authorities are taking steps to ensure the safety of the fans.

It had crossed my mind. Thais seem to come together really well for the national team, it would be a real shame if either side hijacked or disrupted events. But I agree it is a real possibility; particularly as one side has become linked to the main stadium.

Just getting into the country could be a problem. At the present time most ASEAN countries are telling their citizens not to travel to Thailand, which presumably includes footballers.

"The state of emergency restricts mass movements, bans gatherings of more than five and allows the government to use the security forces to restore order."

If this is still the case on December 6th then there's no way we can host the tournament. Even BEC Tero get more than 5 people at their games Wink

From the BKK Post :

Suzuki Cup tournament could be moved from Bangkok to Phuket due to political chaos
TOR CHITTINAND

Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi.

The AFF Suzuki Cup is likely to be moved from Bangkok to Phuket due to the current political problems, Football Association of Thailand (FAT) president Worawi Makudi said yesterday.

The Asean championship will be co-hosted by Thailand and Indonesia next month with the Thailand leg scheduled to kick off in Bangkok on December 6.

Thailand team are in Group B along with Malaysia, Vietnam and Laos, and the Malaysians have reportedly threatened to pull out of the tournament and called for the Thailand event to be moved to Malaysia.

Worawi, who is in Malaysia for talks with that country's football authorities and the Asean Football Federation (AFF), admitted that the political turmoil affected the tournament.

He said he had told the AFF that Phuket would be a good choice if the tournament could not be held in Bangkok.

"Phuket is not affected by the political situation," he said. "Malaysia, Vietnam and Laos can fly directly to Phuket International Airport."

Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports have been seized by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

Worawi said he had sent officials to inspect the stadium, facilities and hotels in Phuket and they found they were 80% ready for the tournament.

Phuket's Surakul stadium, which was used for the Fifa Women's Under-19 Championship, has been approved by Fifa, he said.

And to answer my own question......

Suzuki Cup meet will be held in Phuket from December 6, says Worawi
TOR CHITTINAND

Thailand has moved the Suzuki Cup or the Asean championship from Bangkok to Phuket province to avoid the political crisis in the capital.

Emergency rule is now in place at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports which have been occupied by thousands of anti-government protesters from the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

"There's too much trouble in Bangkok, so we've decided to switch the venue," Worawi Makudi, president of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), said yesterday.

He said officials from the Asean Football Federation (AFF) had inspected Phuket's Surakul statium and was pleased with the venue.

The other venue, which will host only one game, will be the main stadium in nearby Phangnga province.

"All parties have agreed, this is the best solution to the problem and Phuket is a very suitable alternative. Every team in the group can fly to Phuket directly," Worawi said.

He said this would show to the world that Thailand had problems only in the capital and other places were still safe to visit.

Thailand is co-hosting the fiercely-contested biennial tournament, beginning on December 5, with Indonesia.

Phuket will now host Group B, comprising Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Malaysia, while Indonesia, Cambodia, Burma and holders Singapore will contest Group A in Jakarta.

The Phuket event will begin on December 6.

I have to say that Worawi made a fool of himself again last week when he declared that it was far too late for the tournament to be moved and that the problems in Thailand wouldn't affect the tournament.
So Phuket it is, in a stadium that holds 15,000?! (according to this website)

From todays BKK Post. PR seems a lot more confident than Vinnie Wink

Reid confident of success in Phuket
JOHN CREAN

Thailand are ready to reclaim their title as kings of Asean football with victory in the AFF Suzuki Cup, which kicks off on Friday.

Thailand boss Peter Reid.

Singapore have won the last two tournaments but Thailand's new coach Peter Reid reckons his players have a good opportunity to lift their fourth crown after victories in 1996, 2000 and 2002.

"It is a massive, massive, tournament in this region and the teams are very competitive," said Englishman Reid, the former Manchester City and Sunderland boss. "But I have to say that we have got as good a chance as any team to win the tournament."

The squad have been training in Korat but returned to the capital at the weekend. They trained on Monday and were due to have another session today. They will head to Phuket on Wednesday for their Group B matches against Laos, Malaysia and Vietnam.

The matches were due to be staged at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok but the venue was switched to Phuket because of the closure of the capitals two airports.

Reid said that the move would have little effect on the side.

"Obviously, you want to play in the capital where the fans are fervent," said Reid, who took over as coach of the national team in September. "But it is not a problem playing in Phuket. The lads will be focused and I am sure the supporters down there will get behind the national side."

The coach, who has taken on old Asian hand Steve Darby as his assistant, is pleased with the fitness levels of the squad after a week of intensive training.

"The players have done ever so well," said the former England international. "We have done running work, we have done aerobic work and we have done some weight sessions. We have had a mixture.

"The players worked really hard. I do not like saying it but they are looking decent at the moment. A couple of players, Sutee Suksomkit and Nattaphong Samana, have joined us recently and they have added to the depth of the squad. It is a competitive squad and it going to be difficult to pick a first 11. It will be a stronger team than we had in the T&T Cup in Vietnam (which Thailand won)."

Reid will rely on a group of young forwards for the goals after he axed the experienced Sarayoot 'Joe Five Yards' Chaikamdee. He has picked Ronnachai Rangsiyo, Teerathep Winothai, Teerasil Dangda and Anon Sangsanoi in the final 22.

"You do not like talking about individuals but the forwards are looking sharp. I am pleased with the way they have gone in training," he said.

He has also chosen two wide men in Tana Chanabut and Arthit Suntornpit and will encourage wing back Suree Sukha, one of the players involved in the ill-starred move to Manchester City, to race forward at every opportunity.

"I have gone with Arthit and Tana. They are both good running with the ball. Whether they start or not I have not made my mind up but they are impact players. They are players who can go past defenders. There is a nice balance to the squad, which I am pleased about," he added.

"My full backs are really good players. They do get forward and get forward well. I am torn between playing wide men in front of them or going narrow in front of them, I can go with either. I have plenty of options with the team, which any coach wants."

Thailand's first match is against Vietnam, who they drew 2-2 with in the T&T Cup, in the 15,000 capacity Sarakul Stadium in Phuket on Saturday, December 6. The early match in the double header sees Malaysia take on Laos.

Defending champions Singapore play Cambodia and co-hosts Indonesia are up against Burma in Jakarta on December 5.

THAILAND SQUAD

Goalkeepers: Kittisak Rawangpa (Osotspa) and Kosin Hathairattanakool (Chonburi)

Defenders: Suree Sukha (Chonburi), Patiparn Pethpul (PEA), Nataporn Phanrit (Muang Thong), Natthaphong Samana (Chonburi), Niweat Siriwong (BEC Tero), Rangsan Viwatchaichoke (PEA), Choltit Jantakam (Chonburi) and Panupong Wongsa (PEA).

Midfielders: Surat Sukha (Chonburi), Datsakorn Thonglao (Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Vietnam), Phichitpong Choeichiu (Krung Thai Bank), Saraudin Arwae (Muang Thong), Tana Chanabut (Pattaya United), Suchao Nutnum (TOT), Arthit Sunthornpit (Chonburi) and Sutee Suksomkit (Tampines Rovers, Singapore).

Strikers: Teerathep Winothai (K.Lierse S.K., Belgium), Ronnachai Rangsiyo (PEA), Teerasil Dangda (Muang Thong) and Anon Sangsanoi (BEC Tero)

It would seem likely given the recent change in circumstances. It would be a shame for a semi-final and the final to be played in a 15,000 capacity stadium.

Stars Shine On Opening Night

JAKARTA (5 Dec 2008) - The stars came out for defending champions Singapore and co-hosts Indonesia in the pulsating opening games of the AFF Suzuki Cup that produced eight goals.

Singapore’s Noh Alam Shah, the Most Valuable Player and the Golden Boot Award winner for hammering home 10 goals in the 2007 tournament, put a troubled recent past behind him by coming off the bench and scoring Singapore’s final goal in their 5-0 win over Cambodia in Group A.

Not be outdone, Bambang Pamungkas – one of the most feared strikers in South-East Asia – claimed Indonesia’s last goal as the three-time runners up swept aside Myanmar 3-0 to ignite the home fans at a packed Gelora Bung Karno stadium.

Alam Shah, sporting dyed blond hair, was delighted to get amongst the goals to kick-start his international career after an enforced layoff.

The talented but temperamental striker only returned to competitive action in September following his seven-month ban for violent conduct during the 2007 Singapore Cup final.

Although Singapore took until just before half-time to score the opening goal, coach Radojko Avramovic was delighted that Alam Shah, captain Fahrudin Mustafic, Indra Sahdan Daud and Agu Casmir with two tap-ins handed the Lions a dream start to the competition.

"The players created a lot of chances and four of them managed to score tonight. It's a good win for us," he said.

The win extended Singapore’s unbeaten streak in the tournament to 18 games, 16 of them under Avramovic. The only worry for the titleholders was an injury to in-form striker Aleksandar Duric who was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet in the first half when he was twice denied by the woodwork and had a goal ruled out for offside.

Bambang Pamungkas, who is idolised in Indonesia and is one of the few players in the Asean region to have his own website, looked sharp against Myanmar and his well-executed goal rounded off an impressive performance by the home side.

The 28-year-old striker, now playing for Persija Jakarta after spells in Holland and Malaysia, first made his name in the Asean Football Championship.

He scored the only goal for Indonesia in their 1-0 semi-final victory over Malaysia in the 2002 tournament, a strike dubbed “The Killer Header” by Malaysian newspapers. Indonesia went on to lose the final on penalty kicks to Thailand.

Indonesia’s high-tempo display coupled with superbly taken goals by Budi Sudarsono, Firman Utina and Bambang will have given rise to optimism amongst the team and the fans that they could go all the way this year.

I think the best resource is www.affsuzukicup.com

There are match stats, reports and some opinion pieces.

Some of the caps and goal details on wikipedia are way out of date - unfortunately I think that is what the TV commentators are using.

A good win for Thailand and good to see them contest every ball. Not really  surprising in a team fashioned by Peter Reid who did not hold back when he was playing. A bit worried about the forwards, though. Teerathep gave 100 per cent as usual but still lacks conviction in the box and Teerasil had an air shot in front of goal which highlighted his inexperience. The two forwards on the bench also lack international experience.

Kosin's form was a bit up and down last season. I think that was the main reason for him not being first choice for the national team. However, I think that he might get a recall after yesterday!!

Some good points, sideliner. I was impressed with the performance and the attitude of the players.

Just to pick you up on Teerasil's airshot. I'm not making excuses but sometimes the pitch can make players look quite foolish. I've often stood on the terraces at matches in the TPL and been amazed at some of the mistakes made by the players. It's only after the match when I've been on the pitch myself that I can be a little more forgiving Smiley And yesterdays surface looked particular poor, especially after the earlier match had cut up the surface. Also, the torrential rain can't have helped!!

I think the best resource is www.affsuzukicup.com

There are match stats, reports and some opinion pieces.

Some of the caps and goal details on wikipedia are way out of date - unfortunately I think that is what the TV commentators are using.

That data is made up by myself!!

Is as correct as i can get it, good to hear commentators are using it!!

The pitch is going to be in terrible condition if they get much more rain down there.
A good performance by Thailand against a lacklustre Vietnam side. It's difficult to believe that it's the same Vietnam who qualified for the last eight in the last Asian Cup and looked well on the way to becoming the leading side in ASEAN. What's happened to them?

I think appointing Jimmy Hill as manager hasn't helped Wink

Malaysia have refused to travel to BKK for Wednesday's match. So it will be played in Phuket.
