Hey , why will South Korea , China and Australia join in AFF U19 Championship ASEAN Football Federation decided for age group tournements, to invite select nations that qualified for AFC events. Hence Thailand's Under 20's qualified for AFC Youth Championship, so they get to play in AFF Cup. Because no other ASEAN member qualified for AFC Youth Championship, then AFF do not invite them to their own compeition. Mayeb a bit wrong in that way, but it means Thailand will play better opposition as they prepare to take on the rest of Asia. AFF deemed putting in nations such as Laos and Brunei into a AFF Competition would deter the tournement, so they invite the likes of Korea. The same happened in the AFF Under 16 tournement, where Thailand were not invited, but the likes of Singapore played against Bahrain who are also not members of AFF. Hope that makes it clear. Do you know the schedule for the tournement in Vietnam? Can you add it to the fixture list?

Now, I am totally confused! The Thai language news said Thailand U19 is coached by Kawin Then, someone said the team he's coaching is a U20 with U21 being the latest mentioned. What exactly the age group of Thailand National team immediately below U23?

Can I just add at this point that some reports suggest that Peter Reid will also be coaching the U19s

I think the huge part on Reid getting hired was to coach the youngsters at the upcoming AFC Youth Championship or at least he should be there to follow it closely.
Kawin is currently the coach, but he will be pushed aside for the big tournments.
Our age levels are a bit bemusing, we have U19/20, basically the same squad playing at tournments, just depends on what the host calls the tournement and U23 which is just Asian Games and SEA Games

I think I saw the goals from that match this morning, though at the time I wasn't sure what it was that I was watching but that would seem to make sense. Not surprised it slipped under the radar, the stadium was absolutely deserted

Thai U19 team at pre-SEA Games event irks Calisto National football coach Henrique Calisto is displeased with the news that the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) is likely to send its U19 instead of the U23 team to the Pre-SEA Games tournament next month. Speaking to Thanh Nien on Wednesday, Calisto said, “I don’t know how accurate that information is because the Vietnam Football Federation has not said anything about it to me.”
The Portuguese tactician said he would have to talk with VFF to decide whether Vietnam’s U23s should compete in that event if the news is true.
If Thailand sends its U19 to the contest, it would be a bad decision, indicating a lack of respect for the other teams, Calisto said.
Calisto said his players are training hard and he plans to select good players to compete at the Pre-SEA Games tournament against hosts Laos, Malaysia and Thailand.
Later on Wednesday, Thanh Nien contacted Steve Darby who is in charge of the Thai U23 squad after Briton Peter Reid left his position earlier this week to work as assistant coach at the English Premier League club Stoke City.
Darby said the news that Thailand would send its U19s to the Pre-SEA Games competition was not accurate. He said he was now in charge of the Thai U23 team and no change has been made to the squad’s training and competition plans.
Darby said he would send the U23 team to the event because he considers it an opportunity to test his players as well as learn more about rival teams before the 25th South East Asian Games takes place in Vientiane in December. Calisto said like a fool . No one ban Thailand send U19 squad to this award . That's their rights . Remember Brazil had also sent sub team to attend Copa America and won

Vietnam to send U19 squad for Pre-SEA Games tourney VFF General Secretary Tran Quoc Tuan said “As visitors to the friendly contest, we cannot tell people what to do." “The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has decided to send its U19 instead of the U23 team to the Pre-SEA Games tournament. That is none of our business. The organizers of the event have agreed. That is none of our business, either. However, we need certain changes in our plans.” Tuan said VFF received a letter from the Pre-SEA Games competition on Thursday saying that FAT had said it would send its U19 squad to the tourney. Tuan said VFF’s national team management and coach Henrique Calisto have also agreed to send Vietnam’s U19 squad to the event. Tuan said the friendly tournament would be a good opportunity to prepare the U19 players for the qualifying round of the U19 Asian Football Confederation 2010 to take place in Thailand in November. Meanwhile, manager of Thailand’s U19 team Wisit Korworrakul confirmed that Thailand would send its U19 players to the friendly tournament. Wisit said the U23 players can’t participate in the Pre-SEA Games event because the Thai Premier League was still going on. Responding to the incident, Calisto said, “It was an unprofessional decision.” The 57-year-old Portuguese tactician also said there might be some changes to the U23 squad’s training and competition plans. http://english.vietnamnet.vn/sports/2009/09/868299/

I know he's unhappy about Thailand sending an U19 team, but whats unprofessional here?
If thai players are playing in TPL then surely it's unprofessional to decimate certain teams to play in a friendly tournament?? Surely it's unprofessional of VFF to think Thailand would send a team to decimate the league? I know there season has finished, but they have to respect that nations they invite are still active.

You can't understand? Well, I will give you an example. Let's imagine Thailand invite the national teams of S.Korea, Japan and China to join an pre-Asian Cup tournament. The Japan say they will send their national team, so S.Korea and China are pleased to send theirs. At the final minute, Japan say they're sorry they could only send U-23 to compete with other national teams. Then, other teams see no point of sending their national team and send U-23 squad instead. And that is going to happen to this year's "pre-Seagame" tournament, maybe its name should be changed to "pre AFF U19 tournament". ^_^ I don't mean to blame Thailand in this issue, but I think that U-23 Thailand would not agree to play with U-19 Malaysia, or something like that before a official tournament.

So, after the disorganised U19 that a few days before departure for China still didn't get their uniforms and two days before taking off had to scramble around buying off market jackets to cope with cold weather that failed misserably in their performance was sent to pre-SeaGames instead of U23 because of league activities unlike any other nations? Shouldn't SeaGames then be a lesson that we'v learned in preparation for AFF Cup, then?
