Strange timing as well. I guess it's all about cashing in on the interest in local football.
When you think about it, our top players get very little chance to rest between seasons.

See my post above yours, Loko. There may not be any league football during the break but a lot of our players don't really get a break.
Full internationals, SEA Games, Post/Pre Season tournaments and going off to play in other countries. It must take its toll.

Yes you are right. btw you post had been made at the same time like mine, I just had been a bit too late. You talk about all the tournaments and that stuff. But what about the European players? They usually do have 3 months break. And nobody asking for if they do have to play a full english or spanish season followd by a national cup run and/or continental cup run. Plus a possible Europeanchampionship or even WC campaign. And nobody told the players to got on loan to Indonesia or Mayanmar during the season break.

...and btw, what sense it makes to play an Super Cup with the 4 best clubs, probably provide the most national players, and the Thailand has to play vs Oman on the same time and even same day? Or I am wrong? The last Super Cup day is the 27th and the friendly is on the 27th as well.

Hardly a suprise really. As Vinnie as stated elsewhere, well done to FAT for getting this friendly lined up, it's just up Thailand's street to prepare for Jordan. But once again they've shot themselves in the foot. Of course, our top four clubs should have the majorty of national team players, if they dodn't something would be wrong with the selection process. So what happens now? In reality, FAT should make sure all players are available to the national team, so straight away they devalue their brand new season opener. All the time, it's 1 step forward and two steps back. But are we having some sort of power struggle here? We have FAT organising friendlies to stab someone in the back here? We have Steve Darby suspended to save FAT presidents job.

You're quite the conspiracy theorist DF! It could just be that Thailand need to play a warm-up friendly before the Jordan game, Oman were available but couldn't play on any other day but the 27th.

And how long have FAT known that Thailand are scheduled to play Jordan on January 6th? Surely, if they wanted to have arranged a warm up friendly before the qualifier, they should have done it months ago. Shouldn't they? And presumably the Thai coaching staff will want the squad together for a few days before the Oman game so the Super Cup (which was intended to promote the rise in interest in the domestic game) will be missing all the top Thai players. Over to you, Vinnie.

Who'd defend the FAT?! It's impossible I tells ya! It raises the issue of whether the FAT will demand that the national team players stay with their clubs to take part in their new flagship pre-season tournament, or give them over to the national team. In the event of the former eventuality, a team of fringe players will take on Oman whilst most first team players will only have training sessions as warm-up for the Jordan game. In the latter eventuality, the clubs are going to be annoyed that they will be shorn of their best players for a tournament where 1.5 million baht is up for grabs.

I've just seen the official poster for this tournament : http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/chonburifc/photo_gallery.pl?album=52955 - Image #5. Is anyone else slightly concerned that "they" are trying to manufacture a Big Four? It can't be healthy for the domestic game as a whole. Can it?

Can't find the original thread...so i'll post here. News from Oman... MUSCAT — The Oman national football team will leave for Singapore on Friday to undergo a training camp. According to a press release issued by the Oman Football Association (OFA) yesterday, the camp is being organised as part of the team’s preparations for the an away Asian Cup qualifying match against Indonesia scheduled to be played on January 6. During the training camp, Claude le Roy-coahed Omanis will be play two friendly matches against Singapore national team on December 28 and 31. The team will then proceed Jakarta on January 1 where they will continue their training till the match day. Omani media don't mention playing Thailand on 27th. I think their not coming, so who is? FAT are probably playing a Omani clubside being sold as Oman.

Just read the interview, my thoughts are the same as Greg's. It's hard to get a feel for the Super Cup really, does seem a bit dull. I notice that an improvement mentioned would be to feature foriegn teams or more teams. In my opinion thats moving into the Queen's Cup remit. Surely that need to kill either Super Cup or Queen's Cup off now? Top four with 2 invited foriegn teams would be acceptable as a Queen's Cup / Super Cup opener. What FAT need to do prior to next TPL season, is to either commit to hosting Super Cup every year and lay down the qualification criteria, will it be top four all the time? If so, it would create an interesting end to the domestic season - FAT just need to lay down the rules now. Guess all will come to the fore once this Super Cup has been done with.

I've got to admit that I'm hardly buzzing with excitement. And there's very little interest as a whole from the Chonburi fans. Most people I spoke with on Saturday aren't bothering. We're even struggling to fill the one "official" supporters bus for today's game. Super Cup preview - part two http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/chonburifc/club_news.pl?news=289933

I am a bit confused. Thaileagufootball reports a 2:1 win for CFC over MTU, Grag reports a 1:0 win for MTU.

Two good goals, I thought. I didn't see the pushing incident, Vinnie. And I don't think that I ever will now. I guess the tape will end up in the same place as Yaya's stamp from last season.

It was when Yaya went on a mazy run in the second half. He got into the area, tried to cut it back to one of his team mates but it went straight to a Chonburi player who was on the wrong end of a two-footed lunge from a MTU player. A melee ensued and it was during this melee that the shove occured. They replayed the two footed tackle once but not the shove. If I play devil's advocate then I could argue that the MTU player, amid the chaos, confused the ref for the Chonburi keeper (they were both wearing yellow) who was also involved in the confrontation.

You can buy tickets from the booths outside the main entrance. But I think you might be the only one there on Sunday!
