This mid-week is a FIFA scheduled friendly 'window'. Thailand should be playing in my opinion but their coach is still in England watching Premiership matches!

Vinnie, Reid doesn't start until September 1st, so it's FAT's problem.

Pity Indonesia haven't invited us to their Independence Cup, but there could be an invite from Malaysia for Merdeka Tournement, but only if we ask nicely.

Reid and FAT are both to blame here. I'm sure Reid could have started as soon as he liked. I can't imagine the FAT said "no Peter, we don't want you to start work as soon as possible; we want you start in September."
But they were so desperate to get their man that they just went along with his demands.
FAT should have been stronger and said "you start when we say so" and Reid should be over here watching TPL matches.
Imagine if you had just been appointed coach of a national side but you had pretty much never seen any of the players play. What would you do? I'd want to watch them as much and as often as possible. Instead there's going to be a near two month gap between the announceent of Reid's appointment and him actually working in Thailand and watching matches.

Maybe they had problem with Work Permits?

FAT would get slated i they took on a coach and then found out he wasn't allowed to work in the country.

Other way of looking at it, Reid would have just started if he was to play a friendly today, so he wouldn't have been able to have selected the squad he wanted, it would have been someone elses, and because we are s dis-organised, we would have ended up playing Nepal again, so what would Reid learn from that?

I'm sure there have been a few obstacles that prohibbited Reid from starting straight away.

One day, the people in charge will wake up and learn to prepare properly, if they really want to achieve their goal of World Cup qualification. After all, almost any serious nation, have their firm fixture lists years in advance or at least preparing their scehdules for 2009 and 2010 now. Maybe FAT are stuck in 2051 which is confusing them??

I must admit, I'm with Vinnie on this one. Even if he doesn't officially start until Sept. 1st there's no reason why he can't be here, watching matches and learning about Thai players.

The whole work permit thing isn't really an issue. He could have come on a tourist visa, if necessary, and taken in a couple of matches.

I think that he needs to convince us all that he is dedicated to the cause and not just here for a big fat pay check. By coming out before his contract started would have been a good way to gain some support from the fans.

Maybe Reid has outstanding contracts to deal with first and also, if he is really committed to the job then he will live in Thailand, so surely he has to move all his stuff which can't be easy to organise straight away.

There's many pro's and con's, but it seems a few people are already against him before he has even started.

I'm not against Reid. Indeed, in the "Do you think Peter Reid is good for Thailand?" thread I defended his record as manager and in the same thread SRS said that as National team coach we must all get behind him.
But his appointment was undeniably controversial and the revelation about his salary even more so. Therefore, I just feel that he should be pulling out all the stops to win over a sceptical public. Someone on ฿63 million shouldn't have to worry about the logistics of moving. You pay people to take care of it. Often national associations help out in such situations in the same way that clubs sort out paperwork, living arrangements etc for foreign players.
There may be perfectly good reasons for the delay in Reid's arrival in which case I apologise if I have read the situation incorrectly. But from a purely public relations point of view his appointment started badly and is getting worse all the time that he is not here.

Thailand gave little outfit Thonburi College a 4-0 stuffing yesterday. Now that's what i call intense preperation!

Report from Bangkok Post:

The Thai national team beat Bangkok Thonburi College 4-0 in a warm-up match at Nong Jok ground yesterday.

Ronnachai Rangsiyo (23), Datsakorn Thonglao (27), Teerasil Dangda (70) and Pipat Tonkanya (100) scored for the national side.

The special match had three periods with the first and second each lasting 40 minutes and the final 30 minutes.

After the match, Thailand coach Peter Reid said that he was pleased with the performance.

"They played according to our plans. Every player played very well and the fitness is okay," he said.

The match was part of Thailand's preparations for the TT&T Cup in Hanoi from October 28-November 1. The four-team tournament features Vietnam, Thailand, North Korea and Uzbekistan.

2-0 to Thailand (reserves). There's a rumour that the match against the Korat XI has been moved to Saturday, if this is true then it means I can't go. I was waiting for something like this to happen.  Cry

Reid named him as one of the best players, he created many attacking chances. I think the more Reid sees of him the more he will realise he is a unique talent for Thailand. Gotta say he is a great fella too, humble, respectful and always happy to have a chat.

The AIFF today announced the names of the six participating national teams in this years "ONGC" Nehru Cup.

The participating sides will be all Asian - Syria, Lebanon, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka and besides hosts India.

The 14th edition of the "ONGC" Nehru Cup will be played from August 18 to 30 at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi.

The six teams will be divided in two groups of three teams each. The winners and runners-up from each group will qualify for the semifinals.

India are the defending champions having defeated Syria 1-0 in the finals on August 29, 2007 in Delhi. But this years tournament will be tougher for the hosts and a good test for Bob Houghton to judge the progress of his team.

http://www.indianfootball.com/en/news/articleId/1204

I'm assuming this will be a SEA Games squad, if not then, my personal view would be to see us play India (surely they will be up for it as hosts?) and Syria

We kind of know about Lebanon, but playing them away from home could be a different matter.

Can't see Sri Lanka or Kyrgyzstan helping us develop in any way whatsoever and getting games against these would be pointless.

As Chonburi have fixtures scheduled for the 16th, 22nd and 29th, I'm assuming that we'll be allowed to postpone these games if our players are away with the national team.

We currently have seven of our first team regulars in the Thailand squad.

Okay, I have a confession to make. I have no intention to translate this manual into Thai.
Instead, I will provide folks of the existence of link to the manual via Chonburi website.

I actually had posted something about Fundamental of Techniques of Football in Thai with  illustrations sometime ago.

Thanks SRS.

"If We Don't Start To Plan And Don't Try To Plan...We Will Fail" by Steve Darby.

An extremely detailed and thoughtful article by Steve can be read here :

Knowledge is a two edged sword, I am sure that some of the content of what he had written
and appreciated by some are not quite received in the same manner by other FAT's boys.

If I am not wrong, it should be around mid of September. Official FIFA date, so I guess WC qualifier.

THAILAND ENTICE REAL MADRID FOR AUGUST DATE
Quote
BANGKOK (13 April 2010) – Thailand are attempting to entice star-studded Spanish giant Real Madrid to make a trip to the Far East during the off-season.

Atthachai Burakamkovit, the permanent secretary of the Tourism and Sports Ministry, said that the ministry have been in contact with Real Madrid on just such a possibility.

The ministry wants the side, who feature players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka among other superstars, have been asked whether they can play in Bangkok in August as part of the celebrations of Her Majesty the Queen's birthday.

If both sides reach an agreement, Real Madrid would likely play the Thai national team coached by Bryan Robson at the Rajamangala Stadium.

Atthachai said the government would have to invest around 60 million baht (USD1.9 million) to bring the team known as the ‘Galacticos’ to Bangkok.

He said if Real Madrid reject Thailand's offer, the government would contact other big European clubs such as Inter Milan, AC Milan or Manchester United .
