It's totally out of date to have a team named after a government institution. do you mean like "Provincial Electrical Authority FC" I'll buy a beer for anyone who can find a football club name that is less *rude word*y than that. Yes if this club (and PEA) want to grow they will have to include the region they play in. Police have been using the nickname PU FC, maybe PU Prathum Thani FC would work. Don't forget they only just changed last year from Royal Thai Police to Police United. I suppose the Police can't really gain links with just one particular area for fear of favortism |

Just read an media release from the club, they didn't announce any name changes bt will try to attract the crowd by offering discounted passes to Thammasat students. They also met with Prathum Thani governor and promise to developed football in the province. I am a little worried, if Police United plan to become a solid professional football club they need to REPRESENT a community not just "care for you so much" to a community... have I talked about this story before? website - http://www.policefc.com |

Well at least they seem to be moving in the right direction. Perhaps if they attract some decent support the fans will help them to realise that a name change is the next logical step. But why, oh why, is every team so hell bent on being "United"? "Thammasat Rovers", "Thammasat Wanderers" or "Thammasat Rangers" would sound great.

I'll say this again, i don't think they can change name because they are the team of the Police, they can't be seen to favour a certain area.
If they wanted to chance name to a community, then they would lose every tie ever gained with the Police.
If Thammasat students want a team, then i suggest they form one with the local community and start from the bottom.
I personally enjoy seeing the likes of Police (i'm sad they changed their name last year) and the Army still competing. It's just like most of Eastern Europe whom are all CSKA (Army clubs) and the rest

I understand where you are coming from Drury, but what is the necessity of being connected with the police? Surely the police have no need or place within a top tier football league and it could be argued that it is a potential conflict of interest should any criminal investigations occur ala Redknapp in the UK.
I'm a traditionalist in football and social terms but in this case I think a clean slate and a local allegiance would be the best thing for all involved.

But 'Police' is just a name these days. Players don't have to be members of the force - in fact, I bet hardly any are. Remember England still has the Metropolitan Police F.C competing at semi-professional level. I used to get irritated by the existance of clubs such as Police, Army, Customs etc but it doesn't really bother me anymore. New irritations have superseded them! |

The Police are connected to the Police, formed way back in 1960.
I understand where you come from, and yes, i'm sure none of the players have any links to the Police force, but i don't see why or how they could form links with a community when way back in 1960 they were created, just like many other clubs for an organisation.
If Police were to sell their name to a community, then i personally feel that it would be the death of the Police and I would want to see them setup again at least somewhere in the Thai football setup.
It is a concern that teams like the Police and Army don't have a fanbase, but i can't see them gettign a fanbase with what they stand for without casuing some kind of conflict.
They are the old breed of club and do bring a lot of history to the thai game

God help him if he lands at any of these clubs. I do think Police would be the better option for him though. Newly promoted and not much pressure, whereas Bangkok United, champions in 2006, whats happened to them! They are a club in big decline. Slowly, slowly rotting. |

Police United FC got 3 new players from K-League: I think they are Lee Han-kook from Ulsan Hyundai, Yoo Ji-noo from Chunnam Dragons and one from FC Seoul, but as you know it's very difficult to guess korean name with thai writing.  |
