BURTON ALBION manager, Nigel Clough, has left to take over as the boss at Derby County. The new Burton manager is Roy McFarland. I'm very disappointed about this but I'd like to wish Nigel all the best for the future and thank him for all he's done for The Brewers. (I know he reads this forum Wink)

It must have been a difficult decision for Clough. After, how many years (10+?) he was finally on the verge of getting Burton into the league. Best of luck to him, though.

Not a bad start for Nigel at Derby. They beat the World Champions, M*n U*D, 1-0. BURTON ALBION could only manage a 0-0 draw against the same opponents a couple of years ago Wink

D'oh!!!! I was hoping that subject wouldn't crop up. Stockport will feel the backlash next Saturday. Sheridan was absolutely fuming by all accounts. As were all the 800 or so fans who'd travelled down.

On a brighter note, BURTON ALBION won their 13th consecutive match and are now 16pts clear at the top of the Conference.

Thanks, Vinnie. Cloughie is a legend in Burton not just for hs achievements with the football club but for all the support he's given to local charities etc.

The Brewers won again on Tuesday and, barring the greates collapse in football history, are as good as in the Football League. Fantastic stuff.

Oldham still looking good for the play-offs, too. Smiley

The Brewers need just two points from their last three matches to secure a place in the Football League. A win at Kidderminster on Monday will be enough Smiley

Two defeats in five days for the Albion : ( With one match left, an away trip to Torquay, they still need a point. However, if Cambridge fail to beat Salisbury today, league football will return to Burton Upon Trent.

A HUGE day for Burton Albion today. A point away at Torquay will be enough. However, if the Brewers lose and Cambridge win, at home to Altrincham, it will all be decided on goal difference. Currently Albion are 4 in front. I don't know whether I'm excited or worried?!!

Crikey! Burton have been reeled in, haven't they? I didn't realise it had got so close at the top. Shame Burton will have to celebrate their likely promotion so far from home.

When you consider that a lot of the chasing teams had a few games in hand, the 19 point lead was always a false figure. However, I didn't expect it to come to this. Everything crossed for tonight. : )

I believe Oldham Athletic were also toying with the idea of installing webcams but decided against it because on match days the webcams would be used to play "Spot the fan"

What are the attributes needed to be a football journalist in the UK?

1 - able to add 2 + 2 and get 5
2 - always suggest spurs are going to sign someone
3 - whenever united sell their number 7 come out with a story about how hard it will be to replace him
4 - slag off england when they win narrowly/draw or lose
5 - slag off england whenever they reach a major championship
6 - stick on the face paint and fake tattoos of england reach semi or final
7 - empathise with fans while wondering whether your car is safely parked and will the post match snacks last til the riff raff have cleared
8 - never buy your own tickets
9 - praise some 6 year old no one has heard of, accuse him of arrogance when he starts to believe what you have written and drop him when you find the next ' ' fill in rooney/best/whatever
10 - tell the world about rooney rutting granny hookers in liverpool but pray no one finds out just how you knew...

The kit is embarrassing is enough, without the club drawing further attention to it! The "Everton Haka" has actually caused a bit of a stir in New Zealand. Everton have been accused of " showing cultural insensitivity" and "offending Maori people".

Another marketing masterstroke by Everton!  :Smiley

Some members of the journalistic profession have accused Everton of showing cultural insensitivity while others have praised them for embracing Maori traditions. Ah, the British press ; )

It used to be the case that clubs were given the option as to which league they played in. Within reason. I know you've discussed this before but Burton Albion were always flitting between North and South. It wasn't always a case of geography.

I guess that Dover Athletic wouldn't be allowed to be in the northern section and Kendal Town would never be considered for the southern league. Gloucester may just be on the border. Strange as it may seem.

I saw brief highlights on the local news today. Stockports keeper had a good game, keeping the Latics strikers at bay on several occasions. It also said on the report that Oldham have not won at home in the League since February! Shocked

That's true. We beat Northampton to go 5th but it was all downhill after that.

We only won two more league games, away at Millwall and away at Walsall during the rest of the season.

I'm hoping for better this time around.

This should probably be in the English Football Thread - and will probably end up there!

But, to answer your question - I thought they played well in the first half (what I saw of it) but were completely outplayed after the break. The whole Evra business seemed to stem from frustration and their indiscipline cost them the game.

It will be interesting to see how Owen gets on and who Fergie will play alongside him. They certainly have the talent and the best manager but but can they win it? I'm not sure but I bet they finish higher than Liverpool and Arsenal (sorry, JC).

Hope that helps.

brand building was more important than team building.

I cannot agree to that. Because compared to recent years, the pool squad didn't had so much changes. The Team is nearly the same. And therefore I think they will perform same like last season or even better. I don't see the fu*** united winning the titel this season. They will miss Ronaldo. Arsenal will have no chance as well, I even predict City finishing in front of them.

So I would say the Top 5 may will look like this at the end of the season.

1. Chelski ....but not wonning the CL again , hehehe
2. LFC
3. City
4. fu*** United
5. Arsenal

About the only decent thing he did as Oldham manager.

Saturday 15th August

Third Division
Leyton Orient v OLDHAM ATHLETIC

Fourth Division
BURTON ALBION v Morecambe

Hopefully both teams can bounce back after two disappointing results earlier in the week. It's Burton's first home game as a league club so it should be a great occasion.

I thought that was you letting your heart rule your head, JC. But Arsenal are currently 4-0 up away at Everton (49 minutes). You may be on to something.

Sorry for this post, Marco.
