Okay...5-0 has made me slighlty annoyed What about 6:1? It is a desastre. I think. We had been talking about results in the AFC Cup or AFC CL, now something like that in the probabaly best league in the world!!

I think that all these clubs who are running up massive debts shouldn't be allowed to buy players, or pay them over-inflated wages. It's obscene. Why is it that teams like Bournemouth, Rotherham, Luton etc are punished for owing the local butcher a few quid whilst the BIG clubs can get away with murder? How much debt are M*n U*d in?!!
It really is a shocking state of affairs. The sooner the Greedy League disappears up its own backside the better.

Why is it that teams like Bournemouth, Rotherham, Luton etc are punished for owing the local butcher a few quid whilst the BIG clubs can get away with murder? How much debt are M*n U*d in?!! The main problem for teams like Luton, Rotherham, Accrington etc is that they owe/owed large sums of money to HM Revenue & Customs, who have the power to seek winding up orders against clubs who can't/won't pay the debt. We all know that some English clubs are run by questionable charachters who in a bid to wipe out debts are willing to put clubs into administration (meaning a 10-25 point deduction), and forcing creditors to accept a nominal figure for every pound of debt they are owed. This means that lots of local businesses who can ill afford it will be losing money, through no fault of their own. This happened at Chester, who were put into administration by the owner of the club. They owed large sums of money to creditors, who had to accept 15 pence for every pound they were owed, and then the same bloke who ran up the debts, bought the club back from the administrators (in his sons name) for a few thousand pounds! : Yes the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool are in massive debt, but they are secured, 'manageable' debts with banks who are more then happy to make a healthy profit from the interest payments. In English football it seems that as long you keep the taxman happy you are ok. It's a shame we can't follow the German FA's example of insisting that clubs must not run at a financial loss. 'Financial Fair Play' to be introduced in 2012 whereby clubs can't spend more than they earn. http://www.worldsoccer.com/news/uefa_approves_platinis_financial_reforms_news_289293.html

Mr Elstone said: “We are looking forward to jetting out to Thailand. Chang has been very supportive of Everton since we first signed with them in 2004 and we have developed a great relationship. We hope to get an update on their plans for the future,

It is a bit of a junket, isn't it? They're basically flying to Thailand to thank Chang for sponsoring them! Nice work if you can get it!

Flag belongs to Dean. A keen Stamford fan and even keener England fan. He's probably going to be at the Thailand v Singapore game, too as he's visiting a friend in Bangkok.

Whooa!! I'm sorry. I find that quite possibly the most tasteless thing I've ever read. They have renamed the village, The Everton-Chang Village. Wtf?
The place I work has been heavily involved in a couple of projects in areas on Koh Phi Phi which were badly affected by the tsunami. We often send groups down to help with the rebuilding and have raised a fair amount of money to supply much needed supplies etc. We work closely with the local community to make sure that they get exactly what they need and that the money doesn't go "missing".
It's good to see an English football club and a big local company helping out in this way but to rename a village to highlight this is disgusting. I'm sorry. I just find that repulsive in the extreme.

Being an Oldham fan, I have no particular love for M*rk H*ghes or M*n C*ty so, on the one hand, I find it all quite amusing. However, as a football fan, I think this whole business stinks. He's done a good job there . They're in the semi finals of the League Cup and in the top six in the first division.
It's the G*ry C**ks and Sheikh Mansours of this world who need weeding out. Although I feel that it's already too late.

Cook's press conference with Mancini was excruciating. In this modern era it's no surprise to hear spokesmen and chief executives resort to vague business English, but even so, if anyone can tell me what an "accelerated transfer acqusition strategy" is or a "results trajectory" then I'll be much indebted.

Wenger: Ramsey injury no coincidence Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was unable to celebrate his side's vital 3-1 win at Stoke after teenager Aaron Ramsey suffered an horrific injury. Bet Ł30 Get Ł30 Free Open a Sky Bet account today and place your first bet and we'll match it with a free bet up to Ł30! Open a Sky Bet Account Ramsey was injured in the second half in a tackle with Ryan Shawcross, who was sent off and left the pitch in tears after seeing the extent of Ramsey's injury.
"I'm proud of our game because it was an unbelievable battle from the first minute. We needed to be tough and resilient to win," Wenger said.
"I'm very proud and of course very sad because of what happened. We know it's a bad injury. We have to transfer him to London tonight to see if he needs emergency surgery.
"We don't know how long he will be out but it's certainly long term.
"I'm not very happy with the tackle. We know what we are expecting, a battle everywhere, but we have now lost three players on horrendous tackles and I refuse to believe it's always coincidence.
"I don't believe it when you are hit as many times as we are. I just believe in what I see and when you see a player getting injured like that it's not acceptable. Commitment is right, but that is not right.
"All the questions I get in press conferences about we don't fancy the physical side of it, that's the result."
The game was level at 1-1 when the incident occurred but Arsenal somehow regrouped and scored a late penalty through Cesc Fabregas and an injury-time third from Thomas Vermaelen.
"We could see the team was shocked but this team is very strong mentally and we will do it for Ramsey as well because he deserves it," Wenger added .

Is this good news or bad news SRS? I'm guessing good . Manager Dave Penney parts company with Oldham Oldham Athletic manager Dave Penney has parted company with the club. Penney took over the League One side in April 2009, replacing Joe Royle who had been in a temporary role at the club after John Sheridan's departure. Oldham director Simon Corney told BBC Radio Manchester: "Perhaps even Dave himself felt things were not quite right so we decided to part company." Ex-Latics striker Andy Ritchie said: "I think they need someone with experience now it's not worked out for Dave." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/o/oldham_athletic/8665408.stmApparently my dad leapt for joy when he heard the news. Penney has never been popular with the Oldham fans. It wasn't just his style of play but the fact that he seemed to have no personality whatsoever. I also have it on very good authority (like most people who post on football messageboards ) that he was sacked mainly because we have sold no season tickets for next year and never looked like selling any whilst he was still there. The board now have a big decision. Employ the wrong man again and it could be the death of the club.

Here's one for you SRS. Everton striker Jose Baxter is reportedly set to go out on a season-long loan to Oldham Athletic. The 18-year-old made his debut for the the club last season, and has been tipped for great success at Goodison Park. Now The Mirror reports that the Toffees are packing their starlet away on loan, so he can continue his footballing education by gaining much-needed experience playing in the Latics' first-team. Baxter is the youngest player ever to have played in a competitive match for Everton. He has also represented England at the Under-16 and U-17 levels. Link: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3268/league-one/2010/07/02/2005689/everton-starlet-jose-baxter-to-move-to-oldham-athletic-on He's overrated if you ask me, but it'll be interesting to see how well he does with the Latics! You beat me to it! We've also signed ex-Oldham, ex-Everton keeper Paul Gerrard as a goalkeeping coach.

INteresting! I may be getting mixed up then (did you hammer us twice at Goodison around that era?) but I seem to recall we won the game before that one.
Last time I was at Goodison we won, Kevin Davies scored for us. I think that a former prolific ex- Sheff Weds striker played that game for us too. His name escapes me now.

And can anyone remember the score the last time Oldham played Everton at Goodison in a competitive match? I'll let BGB field this question. I had to do it last year! No comment !!!! But I remember both the games you were mentioning against the saints like they were yesterday.. The 0-2 at home was a dark dark day. Kevin Davies run right through our defence (or lack of) from the half way line. The 7-1 was awesome though... Joe Parkinson... what an underrated player he was. Shame his career was ended by injury. He was better than Paul Ince in that position. And yeah, in my opinion also, Jose Baxter is overrated, reminds me of Joe Cole, who I have never rated that highly... but we'll see...
