The depths of Step 4 for us this season. Unibond Div 1 South. We were going along quite nicely last season, mid-table in the Premier, when our manager moved to our fiercest rivals Corby and took 8 first team players with him. I think we won two or three times after that and got relegated on the last day of the season.

"Great result for Oldham."

Yes, we've made a good start. There is a lot of optimism at Boundary Park this season. Let's just hope that it isn't another false dawn!!

Likewise, the Brewers are expected to make the play offs again this year.

Scarborough Athletic did not have a game, as it was FA Cup week. Next match in midweek against Leeds Carnegie and then Grimsby Borough at the weekend. Strangly enough, the Northern Counties league that they play in is sponsored by Thai company Koolsport

Scarborough Town drew 1-1 away to Great Ayton United.

We also have another local side in Kirkbymoorside who have now entered the Wearside league and are currently sitting top after 3 games.

So are Scarborough Athletic the team that played last season after the original club folded? Who are Scarborough Town?

The other English non-league team I keep an eye on won at the weekend:
Peterborough Northern Star of the United Counties League Division 1 beat Northampton Sileby Rangers 4-0.
Peterborough United are being led down a dark alley by a sinister owner with unclear intentions so I'm throwing my weight behind Peterborough's other club.

It runs along the lines of, Scarborough Athletic the team who replaced Scarborough.
But they are a pro Hull based team (people from Hull run and play for the team, so is it really Scarborough?) , so people in Scarborough got fed up and started their own side, Scarborough Town, based much lower down the football pyramid, and mainly a team for Under 19 players who aren't good enough for professional football.

Scarborough Town are also closely linked to Sheffield United, whose owner is from Scarborough, so the very best of Scarborough youngsters go to Sheffield Utd and once they can't make the pro grade, the apparent scenario is to go play for the Scarborough Town team before you can move up the ladder
as it is hard for youngsters to move into a more progressive team straight away.

Our first defeat of the season so we're out of the League Cup. Not too disappointed as the league has to be our priority this year. Although it's always nice to win!!

How lucky were City last night? They needed an 89th minute own-goal to stay in the tie with FC Midgetland, or whatever they're called, and went through after winning a penalty shoot-out.

As our match clashes with Liverpool v M*n U*d on Saturday it will be interesting to see what affect it has on our attendance.

Personally, I'd rather have hot needles poked into my eyes than watch the English Premier League  Wink but I've a feeling that a lot of fans will choose to watch a meaningless game being played 6,000 miles away than support their LOCAL club.

I hope that I'm wrong.

It even goes on in England I'm afraid. Stamford's mid-week crowds are noticeably lower when there is an 'important' Champions League game on.

But that's maybe a different point. I mean I am still wondering how the people in England can afford to watch EPL games live in the stadium. And from Stamford, I guess you mean Chelski, I have heard that most of the working class fans already have left the ground. I am right?

An even bigger threat to numbers on Saturday might be the weather! It's rained solidly for  over 24 hours here and if it rains on match day, I can see a lot of people staying away.

Sorry to hear about Stamford. Keep posting the scores though. I'm sure that you've attracted a lot of new fans.

Thanks for the good wishes for Oldham. There is a lot of optimism around Boundary Park (home stadium) and the feeling that this year could see us promoted. We drew 3-3 away at Hartlepool on Saturday and are still 3 points clear at the top League One.

The Brewers (Burton Albion) seem to have gone off the rails a bit. But they'll still make the play offs again this season.
