I've read a few posts about stadia over the past couple of days. Here is a good source of information. It's slightly out of date - Chonburi and Bang Phra have already moved- but it's a good starting point and will probably be updated soon. Hope it helps

Re: capacities. www.worldstadiums.com has got quite a lot of grounds listed with capacities. Just click on 'Asia' and then 'Thailand'. For those that aren't listed all you can really do is find photos of those grounds (on forums, websites etc) and have a 'guesstimate'. Failing that, you could find them on Google-Earth (if they are mapped) and have a guess. Most of the municipal stadiums seem to have a capacity of less than 5,000.

Thanks for the link, Vinnie. However, a lot of the Thai details are out of date. Mind you, with most clubs changing their home grounds as often as most people change their underwear, keeping it up to date would appear a thankless task!!

A lot of it is wrong now. But the Korat stadium is on there thanks to me! I emailed them about it and they put it in. They also put Korat F.C in as tenants when I informed them of the ground change. They do seem to change details if you email them.

Good photos. Not sure about some of those capacities though. Rajamangala holds about 65,000 and Supachalasai holds 30-35,000, even with all the new red seats that have been fitted.

And there were at least 10,000 at the Chonburi Municipal Stadium the night we won the league

There are some photos on our messageboard. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be working just now. I'll post a link when it's up and running again.

That's good to hear. I noticed building materials behind one of the goals at Muang Thong's ground in readiness for the development that's going to take place there and, of course, there's a club to the south of Chonburi that are building a new stadium...

Just go to the home page of this website www.thaifootball.com and click on 'Stadiums'. There you'll find info' and photos on most of the main stadiums in Thailand. You should also see the link to 'Thanchaokun Photo Gallery' Click on this and you'll find hundreds and hundreds of photos.

And here's some news of the latest stadium development.
"Thai Port stadium in Klong Toey will be expanded before next Saturdays home match against Chonburi. An extra stand will be built behind the northern goal. "
We should just tow a temporary stand behind us whenever we go away. ; )

It's very easy to get to. It's in the grounds of the Chulalongkorn University. And a short walk from Supachalasai Stadium.

There is so much stadium construction to accommodate the growth of Thai League football at the moment. List updates here to help keep track.

Inspired by Vinnie's crack on another thread, that PEA FC plans to call their new stadium the Thunder Castle reminded him of a Disneyland attraction, I thought that it might be fun to try and match up actual Disneyland rides with suitable Thai club's stadium names. Here goes : Astro Orbitor Stadium Autopia Stadium Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters Stadium - Thai Airforce FC Space Mountain Stadium Starcade Stadium Mad Tea Party Stadium Mr Toad's Wild Ride Stadium Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Stadium Big Thunder Ranch Stadium Goofy's Playhouse Stadium Snow White's Daring Adventures Stadium Astro Jets Stadium Skyway To Fantasyland Stadium - P*ttaya Un*ted FC Skull Rock and Pirate's Cove Stadium - Navy Rayong FC Goofy's Bounce House Stadium Plenty of scope there

Which Airport But there is a stadium close to the new one, where Thai Airways used to play 2 years ago. I think it was called KTML Stadij. It is directly on the highway to Chonburi. Just tooked a pic of that on monday.

The new airport , i won't try spelling it.. Just wondered what it was like, and if it would be suitable for games such as AFC Cup for instance. Thinking low key games that need to be near airports etc. Which Airport But there is a stadium close to the new one, where Thai Airways used to play 2 years ago. I think it was called KTML Stadij. I've been. Bangkok Bank used to play there. Chonburi lost the last match of the 2006 season - our only away defeat all year - on that ground. There is - or was - a FBT store just around the corner and the stadium is part of the college campus. http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/chonburifc/match_report.pl?action=report&id=1884988

While we're on the subject can anyone tell me anything about the Bang Mod stadium in Thonburi? Samut Prakan used it last year and, I think, Rajvithi are using it this year. It seems quite modern. Does anyone know why this fairly large stadium was built? Is it part of a university or sports complex?

What's the true capacity of the Leo Stadium at Bangkok Glass? I've read various figures of 7,000, 9,000 and 26,000 (on wikipedia, so it must be true ... not!).
On my recent visit to the Leo Stadium, after a couple of beers, my friend and I downsized our initial estimate for the big stand from 20,000 squeezed in to about 10,000. Given that the rest of the ground might hold 4,000, I'd go for an overall capacity of something like 14,000.
The top tier of the big stand at Leo Stadium appears to be the best place to be as you can stand and there's plenty of room to put your pint of Leo on the floor without someone kicking it over!

I'm guessing the 26,000 figure refers to the expected capacity once the stadium is completed. I'm yet to vist the New Leo Stadium, as they played somewhere else last year, so I can't really make a guess at its current capacity. I'll let you know what I think after the 19th September.

You're probably right. If they stick another big stand down the undeveloped side and upgrade the temporary stand behind the other goal they will have a decent capacity. Can't see it happening though unless they start getting close to sell-outs under the current capacity. If they were to redevelop the other 3 sides (highly unlikely) to give the ground a symmetrical look, the capacity would shoot up to something like 40,000 Bigger isn't always better, as we can see from games played at Thammasat Rangsit by The Police. Often keeping the capacity down, but the stands close to the pitch - as at Thai Port, Muangthong and Bangkok Glass - leads to a much better 'football' atmosphere.

The Englishman's estimate of 9,000 would appear to be close to what they could sensibly fit in. Against TOT there were probably 4,000 there. Some space in the away section (obviously) behind the opposite goal and plenty of room on the 3rd tier of the big stand. Therefore, 9,000 would seem about right. Cheers.
