The end of season is nigh... but the decisive match is coming sooner this Saturday: Ayutthaya VS Samutprakan. If the host wins, it'll lead the table again and gain advantage over the guest under a head-to-head ranking criterion. Who will be the regional champion will still be rather vague. If, on the other hand, Ayutthaya FC can't make it... Samutprakan FC and a regional champion are quite likely to be equatable.  |

I really admire the spirit of Samut Prakhan and think they would be a great addition to the higher leagues, but I have to be loyal to Ayutthaya as its become my town in Thailand.
What is the situation in Samut Prakhon these days? I heard they were having some financial problems and were looking for a home stadium, any updates?

Well, Ayutthaya won the big game but it was marred by a walk-off by Samut Prakarn. They were unhappy when the ref gave a penalty to the home side for handball. I've seen the incident a couple of times and an arm definitely goes up but at normal speed I couldn't make out if there was any contact. Still shouldn't walk off the pitch, though. Such a childish, immature action, which achieves what exactly?

I haven't seen all the match, so I can't comment on the decisions but I stand by my comment that a team should never walk off the pitch because they disagree with the referee - that is the behaviour of children. Judging by your signature it seems that you don't have an open mind when it comes to referees anyway!
Answer me this one question: do you think that Thai football players make the referee's job (which is difficult already) easier or more difficult?

Ayutthaya FC defeated Samutprakan FC last Saturday. There would still be a long way to go for both teams. Three more weeks lie ahead, in suspense. This Saturday, we have an away match against Chachoengsao FC, who has not lost in any of their home matches this season. The only stadium that is qualified for the competition has already been used by Thai Summit FC. And, unlike some teams in TPL, we are not allowed to share a home stadium. Another stadium is being slowly renovated, so whether we'll move back here from Bangmod Stadium next year would be rather tentative. We all know that the referee's decisions are final. It's just hard to accept when we see that the important and questionable ones were made against us while also witnessing that some unquestionable ones were clearly incorrect (like one simple throw-in). Anyway, bygones are bygones; the tastes of football wouldn't be fully appreciated without bitterness. If there is no offence whatsoever, the referee's job will be really easy. Vinnie's question is then simplified into whether Thai football players in general commit too many offences. I am just a football newbie who hasn't watched enough games... |

Never in a million years. The players' job is to play. The coaches' job is to coach. The referee's job is to stop and start the game. Simple as that. i agreed your quote. i understand we have own thing to do. i never like walk off the pitch coz game will stop. it made us no mood to watch the game and it's like a childish do too. surely, thai football player and some fanclub make the referee do job more difficult. otherwise, it's gonna quite easy if the referee fell free and do their job follow their fair attitude. But that match the referee couldnt do the thing as the referee should to do. they couldnt control any problems in game. i didnt mean i agree with walk off but i think they had own some reason. when the referee not start and stop in the right time, problem will come. how come the referee will know their problem if we not tell them. may be, i got feeling as a player then upset such a much.. hmm i should to appreciate and accept some bitterness more than this. thx you all, guys. ^^ |

unfortunately players walking off the pitch happens all too often in the region
three recent examples
indonesian cup final. a pen wasn t given and the team who felt they should have had one walked off. 2nd time in four years this has happened in the final!
chula united v pattaya united - upset with the ref and walked off for 5 mins or so in front of steve darby who was dead impressed (!)
1st v 2nd in singapore - after a series of decisons went against them club president signalled his players to walk off but luckily they carried on
but i never ever recall a ref changing his decision cos of a walk off. this face saving lark looks dead daft!

I'm totally with Vinnie and JC. Presumably none of us would be here if we didn't have a fondness for Thailand, but sometimes the direct approach is the best way to show affection. This type of behaviour is just plain childish, and does not achieve anything except making international audiences wonder just how far behind Thai football really is. I've never seen any team in the EPL or Serie A walk off, and those are probably the two most respected leagues in the world. Putting that aside, i's good to meet Samutprakan fan and I wish them all the best |

Sorry englishman. But Seria A is not a repsected league anymore. Seria A is ridiculous. Clubs having debts a lot, only surviving by the help of the Berlusconi goverment. Ulrtra groups which controlling clubs, all the scandals over the past years, old and unsafe Stadiums ticket prices which are not reasonable. I wouldn't call that a respected league. And even the stadiums are nearly emty.

Unfortunately, he was injured in a car accident in May, and underwent a surgical operation in his left arm as a result. He is still under recovery. Hope this has not disheartened him in any way.
This year, there were a lot of draws in the first leg. Samutprakan FC has just been able to land in the top three of the central-east regional league table after defeating Nakhonnayok FC 4-1 in a home match last Sunday. One of the goalscorers is a recently-acquired former Lopburi player Ousmane Cherif. We also saw the comeback of one of our favourite players last year, Golf Kritsada Nakpan, also a former Lopburi player and 'Lopburian' himself.
Samutprakan FC has a friendly match scheduled this midweek against Air Force United, currently ranked third in Division 1 at Thupatemi Stadium. This is perhaps to prepare itself for a revenge. Pathumthani FC, who Samutprakan will compete with this Saturday, scored an equaliser just before the very last minute in their previous match.

Appleton is now moving back to England following the Club's decision to replace him with someone else in the squad list. We would miss him. Prior to the accident, he played three consecutive matches in the defender position: against Kabinburi (W 3-0), Kasembundit (W 2-1), and Nakhonnayok (D 1-1). As for the friendly match against the Air Force, we drew 2-2 in a three-quarter game with 30 minutes a quarter. 'Patty' Panupong Chanpaeng (9), who has just welcomed his second child, a daughter, scored both goals. The match concluded with a convivial dinner party for both teams. This Saturday, the WWF may not be very pleased as it's likely that the Stork may be slain. |

Pathumthani was defeated by Samutprakan 2-0. Amoah Iseek, a Ghanaian striker, scored the first early in the first half at 6'. Patty, not long after being brought on to the pitch, scored the second at 85', sewing up victory. Samutprakan now ranks third and is just one point behind Saraburi, with points and GD equal to Ayutthaya but less F.
Saraburi drew 1-1 with Sakaeo, who ranks 16th with no wins. Ayutthaya won 2-1 with Mueang Kan.

Samutprakan won 1-0 against Angthong. The goal was, again, scored by Patty, despite Angthong's 5-4-1 formation. It was also protested by opposing players, claiming that a foul play had been made prior to that. Samutprakan now ranks second eventually as Ayutthaya lost 0-1 to Lopburi.
Two red cards were given out: the first to Samutprakan in 57', and the other to Angthong.

I don't think actors contribute much to publicity of the club, if at all. An interesting piece. I remember when Chonburi were evicted from the Municipal Stadium following a fall out between the club and the owner. We staged a peaceful demonstration outside the shop owned by the stadium landlord. There must have been about a hundred of us on Chonburi high street. At first he was reluctant to come and speak with anyone but eventually he let a few fans inside and there were discussions and he was presented with a petition. We've moved back to a refurbished stadium in the city this season and the old ground looks in awful state. His loss. |

Samutprakan certainly have some interesting characters following them. Today was a non alcohol day but many of them looked like they were pissed. We were informed by a group of them that "We ah hooligan." I don't know whether that was to impress us or intimidate us.  |

There was also that guy who looked like a gorilla high on yaba.
We did discuss why the Samut Prakan outfit didn't have a group of pretty cheerleaders, but if you'd seen the yaba gorilla and some of the other characters you would understand why they'd need chaining up before letting any pretty members of the opposite *rude word* prance around in front of them.

Which stadium will you be using for the last few games? I'd like to take in a match as long as it doesn't clash with Pattaya Utd- my place in Bangkok is in Samut Prakarn province so I should support my local club. I think the 1,000 Baht per fan to raise money for a stadium is brilliant.

Last week's game was played at the Thephasadin Stadium behind the MBK Centre in Bangkok. I'm not sure if that will be their home for the rest of the season. The link from lokomotive titled 'Prakarn power' a few replies above is an interesting read. |

Club President Peerapat Tanit announced last week that Samut Prakan will play their Champions' League matches at the Sports Authority of Thailand Stadium, Bang Plee. They're hoping the donations from the fans mentioned in loko's article, plus the prize money from winning the mini-league (600,000 baht), will lead to a new stadium being built in Bangna/Bang Plee for next season. |
