I've been following the Ashes (cricket) on the internet and The Open (golf) on the tele. Both events have been wonderfully absorbing.

I was hoping Watson would win the Open, fair play to Cink though. Lets hope England don't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory tomorrow!

If anyone can let a team score 500+ runs in the fourth innings of a test match to win it, it's England!!
I think it's going to be a very uncomfortable evenings listening. Australia could have it wrapped up by tea-time. I'm dreading it!!!
The golf was terrific. A real shame that Tom Watson ran out of steam at the end but still a remarkable achievement. I though that Cink was a very gracious and worthy winner. Agree about the course and the adverts.

Isn't sport wonderful!! I'm not sure Spanish side Navata will agree with you...They lost 27-0 to Villarreal yesterday "Villarreal began their preparations for the new season in style with a 27-0 friendly win over minnows Navata. Striker Jonathan Pereira notched up seven goals in the encounter, while fellow forwards Joseba Llorente and Ruben Marcos each scored four goals.

Anyone who's going to the Headingley Ashes Test, look out for Peter Reid! I heard him interviewed today on Talksport (UK Radio Station), and he said he was heading back to the UK in August to watch the start of the Premier League season and to catch the cricket at Headingley. I didn't know he was a cricket fan!

Great Ashes reporting from Mike Selvey in the Guardian. www.guardian.co.uk"In the first Australian innings, when the cloud rolled over, James Anderson had made the ball swing like a Sixties suburban party and profited." Let's hope that it stays fine today and we can finish them off : )

I'll fetch my spade . Doesn't look like the weather will save us, the forecast looks reasonably good for a change : . Do you remember on Fantasy Football, they showed some footage from the 70's or 80's of Statto involved in some sort of protest on the field at the Oval? What was that all about?

I've just found this on Wikipedia: "During an episode of Fantasy Football League, archive footage from News at Ten was shown of Angus Loughran (Statto) offering a chair during a Test match at The Oval to notorious blocker Chris Tavaré. The implication was that Tavaré must be tired, hence his lack of scoring".

How we could have done with Tavare yesterday. Chair or no chair.
I was listening to Test Match Special and Geoffrey Boycott was, quite rightly, livid with England's batting and their preperation for this match. The whole business just prior to the start was farcical. The Aussies must have been rubbing their hands together with glee.

I just got back from a game between Barcelona vs Chivas of Mexico at the Candlesticl Stadium the home of the San Francisco 49ers. I took a friend who was growing up in London with a plann to leave at halftime. By then end of firsthalf, he refused to leave saying he has never been with such au beat football fans. We were on the upper deck behind the goal which was rather empty. Then, at 16th minute came the Chivas fans with drums, flags, several bags of shreded papers and ribbins, horns and this beautiful and rhythmic Latina (in the photo). They dance and sang with colour flares lit up on occasion. The dancing and singig didn't stop till the final whistle. It seamed that they didn't even care if goals were scored, they were just happy to be there. We were surrounded by those fans so we joined them .

Beatles and Bottles... The beatles drew 25,000 fans for their final concert at the Candlestick park 43 year ago. For folks in their 60s, Candlestick park related to the Beatles and vice versa. Football match the other day drew 61,000 fans and they served beers. Not only you can have beer watching the game on you seat, you can have beer in bottle. Maybe throwning bottles is not part of american pasttime. Yes Marco, I was a great experience being with those hispanic fans. But I felt a bit sorry for San Jose Earthquakes and Columbus Crew the two MLS teams who played the first match of this double headers event. It seemed that nobody really pay attention to them Once I sat down on my seat which was about 10 minutes away from the end of first half of the MLS game. I text an american friend who sat on the other side of the field, who really want me to see this game, 'is this shiiii is what you guys called football?' He text me back asking me to wait and look for #6 which was Darren Huckerby an Eglish lad. 'Yeah, what about him? I used to watch him when he was good'. San Jose lose 0-3 and we still friends! Oh, I almost forgot, the game between Barcelona and Chivas ended up with a 1-1 tied.

I'm amazed that they let you drink beer from glass bottles inside the stadium. 'is this shiiii is what you guys called football?' He text me back asking me to wait and look for #6 which was Darren Huckerby an Eglish lad. 'Yeah, what about him? I used to watch him when he was good' Huckerby is a big star for San Jose Earthquakes . He won MLS best newcomer award in 2008 season.

SJ Earthquake looked like a football team for the first time when he first got to the club. I saw a couple of their games as families of kids I work with are season tickets holders. It had been quite painful evenings having to sit through 90 minutes in front of superbly conditioned athletes with decent to every good individual techniques but don't use them or applying them at the wrong places and times. Seeing Chelsea and Barcelona played this Summer was quite an encouraging sign. It convinices me that there are plenty of works out there for mel.

Speaking of Chang, a couple of years ago, they sponsored a darts team I put together. I still have that cool polo shirt with Chang logo embroided on one side of the sleeves.

Ah, the 49ers..! My first year in SF was when they sent all of their roukies to the pro-bowl. Several years later, if you happen to drive on the street of San Francisco while the niners where playing. You will need to turn on the radio in your car really loud because noone else is outthere with you. It's simply a dead town. Now, I mention a bad play to my youth soccer players by refering to that of the professional football team team in town.

Calculating the ICC rankings is an extremely complicated process, that involves all sorts of factors - batting averages, ranking of opponents, results of tests and test series etc. It would take me ages to explain it on here. But watch England shoot up that list after we thrash India next summer.

I think even the most blinkered and fervent of Australian cricket fans wouldn't claim that they have the best side in the world at the moment. Not even in the top three.

Considering India and Sri Lanka finished 1 and 2 and a close one I might ad, the ranking almost perfect. But how has Austria gotten up that high with respect to say, England and Pakistan? Do ICC truely believe that Australia better than Pakistan, not to menttion India or Sri Lanka for that matter?
