Why were Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University F.C. playing in Divison 2 Bangkok this season? After what I can see they stay 250km north of Bangkok.
Yeah, I've found this strange, but i'm told there is a Uni with that name in Bangkok hence why they play there. Not got a clue where it is though.

A Phuket player had a heart attack on the pitch!! Saw the footage this morning, it was an African player. I think he's going to be ok.
Thank goodness he's OK. But how many of us would have been howling at him to get up and get on with it had we been there? It's when you have incidents such as this that all those rolling around/stretcher antics are exposed for what they really are. Here's hoping that they all STOP immediately as a result of yesterday's events. Over to you FAT/TPL/RL.

Rayong 2-1 Samut Prakan
I saw on FBS that there was fighting between both sets of fans on the pitch after the game. It looks like too much alcohol was the root of the trouble again.

Will try to get to see them play next weekend. Chiang Mai susu... want to see them go up. also people are starting to talk more openly about Buriram circus

also people are starting to talk more openly about Buriram circus Where did that come from, Nigb? They can't be taking 7,000. There's only been 4,000-5,000 at their two home games to date! What's going on with promotion, Nigb? Tell me that we're not going to see a situation where as little as two teams go up from the RL as Wolfman's post suggests?

from a post in Thailandsusu. As far as I know it's 4 going up... surely not 2. My mistake... actually 3000 from Buriram. Not sure if it's a sell out, but will be a record breaking crowd for Division 2. I'll be glued to T-Sport with a beer at 6pm tomorrow. Go Chiang Mai!

I saw on FBS that there was fighting between both sets of fans on the pitch after the game. It looks like too much alcohol was the root of the trouble again. I just read a report on the match this morning. Apparently, the Rayong fams through bottles at Samut Prakan players when they came over to applaud the home fans, and some the SP players went in to the crowd to fight back, which eventually led to clashes between the SP and Rayong fans.

And Nigb's site www.thaileaguefootball.com is reporting the official attendance at Chiang Mai v Buriram as 23,070! I'll take it with a pinch of salt, fans at the game were reporting the attendance as more like 15,000. Even so, it just goes to demonstrate the amazing potential of provincial clubs. It'll be interesting to see how many turn up for this weekend's less glamorous match v Trang.

I don't know what the stadium's capacity is (Vinnie?) but there were a lot of empty spaces around the ground. I'd take that figure with more than just the suggested "pinch" of salt. It's always given as 20,000, but all mid-sized Thai venues' capacities are always given as 20,000 (Korat, Chiang Mai, Songkhla, Thammasat, Chula, Hat Yai, Muang Thong, Army, Air Force). They can't all be exactly 20. Korat's is just over 20,000 (I did the calculations myself during the deadly-dull final match against Loei!). The Chiang Mai stadium is almost identical to Korat's but it only has seats in the main stand whereas Korat's is fully seated. Therefore, logically, Chiang Mai's capacity must be well over 20,000 as two-thirds of the stadium is bare concrete steps. I would put the capacity at somewhere between 25 and 30,000, but perhaps nearer to the former.

A German lad, who was in the stadium last weekend, reported approx. 20.000 and that the capacity would be around 25.000. He said the last time he have seen stadium filled like this was in 1998 when Bayer Leverkusen played there.

I do think these provincial clubs can put bums on seats, but i also feel that most of these bums on seats don't actually know what is happening. For example, I could take my wifes family and friends along, but they wouldn't watch the game, they would just camp out like at a picnic. In fact, we would still be in the stadium 5 hours after the game eating the night away. I've never seen any promotion of the game in any Southern province i've been in before, so I always find it hard to understand were some attendance figures come from. Yes, some may be true and in the tens of thousands, but i doubt most are there to see the game - more likely to see the Krabi bunny rabbits or whatever creature they have there that day!

Buriram's fixture moved forward from Sunday. Never saw that coming "You've only got one set of fans, you've only got..." The fans are not complaining. They'll get a double pay cheque this weekend. Regarding the footy, Buriram FC now look an odds on certainty to be playing in the 1st division next year.

Vinnie's been keeping closer tabs on it than I have, but the Chidchob's have ensured that fixtures have been moved like this all season long, even when matches are in different cities. (i.e. it's not been to avoid ground clashes). In Group B it still looks tight at the top, but Loei and Bangkok are starting to drop off the pace. We're now at the halfway point. Rayong 11 pts, Phuket 9, Samut Prakan 8, Chai Nat 7, Loei 3, Bangkok 2. In Loei and Bangkok's favour is that they each now have 3 home games remaining. (Phuket too).

In fact, we would still be in the stadium 5 hours after the game eating the night away. That's pretty much what's happening. The challenge for RL clubs that have seen their gates rocket is to keep those fans. It's no easy challenge to meet in Thailand where fans seem to disappear as soon as the team loses a game or falls from the top spot. If Korat is anything to go by then Chiang Mai's gates will drop down to 1,000-2,000 if they don't go up and have a less successful season next year.

That's fair enough; they play at the same ground, after all. But they've moved fixtures, not only when one was scheduled to play at home and the other away on the same day (which is what happened on both occasions when we played Buriram F.C), but when both clubs were originally scheduled to play away on the same day. It wouldn't be so bad if they were doing it just for the fans but I've a feeling they only move the fixtues so that He and She can be at both games. After all, they're 'just doing what they love'.

Sunday's results: Chiang Mai 3-1 Trang Phichit 3-4 Rangsit Uni
The second match was a cracker. Phichit's goalie conceded a penalty and was sent off, Rangsit duly converted, and then went up 3-0 against 10 men and some woeful defending. Phichit pulled one back just before halftime, then got back to 2-3. Rangsit were then reduced to 10 men, and Phichit eventually got the equaliser with a penalty. However, Rangsit were able to get the winner through a superb diving header. The last 10 minutes were all Phichit, but Rangsit held on.
Standings at the halfway stage: Buriram 13pts, Chiang Mai 10, Saraburi 8, Rangsit 6, Phichit 5, Trang 0.
Buriram, Chiang Mai and Trang have played 3 of their 5 home games already, the others only 2.

I saw the goals and some crowd shots this morning. Only the covered main stand was more or less full. Just ones and twos around the rest of the stadium. Ball-park estimate would be 6,000-8,000.

Some interesting tidbits from week 4 (6th-7th Nov)
*The walk-off monster reared its ugly head again. Loei City had a goal disallowed in 2nd half injury time vs Samut Prakan, and walked off for 10 minutes. Only 8 players returned to the field, and the game finished 2-1 to SP.
* If I've read this right, Saraburi fans raised 7500 baht and presented to their club president, to make up for some fans throwing water bottles at the round 1 clash with Chiang Mai (2-2)
* Newin and Karuna Chidchob each gave the Buriram FC side a 500,000 baht bonus after they defeated Chiang Mai 1-0 away.

Some quick questions. 1. You like rich clubs. Chelsea or Man City supporter? (or Sydney or Gold Coast fan? ) 2. How do you feel about the owners supplying fans with shirts? Why? 3. Others on here argue that it makes the support the club receives artificial and contrived. Agree/disagree? I've got others, but that seems like enough homework for the weekend. Due Monday.

If they receive money to attend games then they are not fans: they are employees. Check the dictionary definition of each word if you disagree.

That's a shame. There's a lot to like about Loei (try saying that after a few beers). Unacceptable, achieves nothing, FAT should stamp it out etc etc. We've been here a thousand times before. So depressing.

Ok. #2 Fair enough. But replica shirts are usually among the most expensive items in the club shop, so why not something smaller along the lines of a scarf/keyring etc? I know Newin can probably afford it, but it's hardly good business. If shirts are too expensive for the average fan, then why not subsidise the shirts to an affordable level? The most expensive Thai club shirt I've seen is maybe 800 baht. Surely not out of the range of the Buriram fan who can afford to travel the length and breadth of Thailand Saturday and Sunday every week? #3 I think I asked this in relation to the wrong matter. I'll revisit it later.

Absolute nonsense. I work six days a week (including full weekends) because I'm married and I have a baby daughter to support. Sorry for not being a real fan. My definition of a real fan would be a person who sticks by the team whether they are winning or losing; through the good times and the bad. And, of course, someone who doesn't get paid to go to matches. There are 'hardcore' Buriram fans, and here they are. All 25 of them watching Buriram F.C in 2009 before Newin and his money came along

PEA shirts are most probably the cheapest you can buy in TPL. They are about 250 Baht. And they are non-brand. Not sure you recognized that fact.
