In the playoffs already:
Phuket (1st South) Loei City
Chiang Mai, Chai Nat and Buriram all need only a point or two to sew up their spots. Phichit need 4 points to go in as one of the 3rd placed teams, and can probably be pencilled in now. I think the East-Central league will claim the other spot.
The race for 2nd in the South, and the title race in Bangkok are very tight with matches running out. (Both leagues have 24 rounds)

Bit worried about Ayutthaya chances after the 0-1 loss to Prathumthani last weekend. They dominated but couldn't score. Samut Prakhan next, need to be within a few points of Saraburi in the final round for it to come down to that match to be 3rd.... then again we could still win the league!

Actually, have just looked at the full tables, and I reckon Chiang Mai and Chai Nat are in, as they can't be caught by the 3rd placed teams in the other 2 leagues. However, final placings are still yet to be determined.

about a third of what they were with PEA. Much better to have a real club now though. I just moved back to Ayutthaya so getting to know the club better now. Samut Prakhan match big one next.

I thought these kind of conditions were a thing of the past. This is Korat at Nong Bua Lamphu. The place is reminiscent of the old Bang Phra ground with no barriers separating the pitch from spectators and no permanent stands. There were supposed to be ground grading tests prior to league admission but they can't be very strict. The full photo album is here http://webboard.koratfc.net/index.php?topic=6984.0

Nice photos. Not sure which is funnier - the dog on the pitch, or the fact there are more police in the stands than fans

At least there is some grass, or what looks like grass, there! Nong Bua Lamphu usually looks completely barren. Perhaps they're growing a pitch to cut and store for next season!

Results from the last week in the North 28/8 Kamphaengphet 0-0 Phichit 29/8Chiang Rai 4-1 Nakhon Sawan 2/9 Chai Nat 0-1 Phichit
Those results should see Phichit (59pts, 2 games left) sew up one of the 3rd place spots. They can theoretically be caught by Roi Et in the Northeast (47 points, 4 matches), but Phichit (GD +44) would have to take some real beatings, and Roi Et (GD +9) would have to go berserk in order for this to happen.
Other results: Isan: 29/8 Nongbualamphu 3-5 Udon Thani Central/East 29/8 Sa Kaew 0-2 Meung Kan Bangkok etc 1/9 North Central 1-1 Rose Asia Thanyaburi
None of which affect the title races.

The big story from the Chai Nat v Phichit match is that the ref had his nose broken during a brawl. Shocking stuff.

Just read the report on TLO. Obviously Chai Nat weren't happy going down by a penalty, (I think it says they had a penalty appeal turned down later as well) and 2 red cards (+1 for Phichit). I think one of the players returned to the pitch after the final whistle and hit the ref. Security was needed to escort both the officials and the away team off and out of the stadium.
Yet another blot on Thailand football's reputation. I hope the RL/FAT come down hard on the culprits. Back home, it would probably result in a lifetime ban, but I won't hold my breath here.

A Rattanabundit player got a life ban last year for hitting a ref. This incident seems to be a matter for the police as much as for the FAT.

On the other hand, the guy from Army who slapped the ref after the Buriram-PEA game only got a 6 match ban, 12 demerit points, and a 12000 baht fine.

There was an incident a few years ago when a ref was beaten up by an entire team and staff. It made the headlines and the club was disbanded. I can't remember which club it was but I have a feeling it was somewhere near Ayutthya.

South is set for an exciting final day next week, with Trang (38) Satun (37) and Surat Thani(36) and possibly Ranong (35) all vying for the second and final playoff spot.
Final fixtures for these teams are:
Trang v Hat Yai (11th [out of 13]) Krabi (6th) v Satun Ranong v Surat

One game to look out for in the NE Division - Roi Et - Yasothon.
Korat can also have a big say in things aswell. Can they have a final push?

I fully expect Trang will get the final spot, but strange things have happened. Feel slightly sorry for Satun as they came runners up on GD last season when only one progressed, would be good to see them test themselves in the playoffs and see how far they have come since 2008 when they came 10th in the old 2nd division. Bigger question is, what makeup will the Southern league have next year? Looks like Narathiwat are coming back, but Phuket seem to have enough to go into DIV1, can Trang, Satun or Surat get in there?

I think the wheels fell off for Korat a few weeks ago. Yasothon (4th) are going to struggle to make up the necessary points on Central/East to claim that spot; Their run-in is 5th placed Korat (H), 3rd placed Roi Et (A), and 2nd placed Buriram (H) As well as Yasothon mid-week, Korat face Loei on the final day. Roi Et might have a shot. Apart from the game against Yasothon, they've got Mukdahan and Nakhon Phanom, both of whom are in the bottom half of the table.

Yasothon are in 3rd as of todays results.
Samut Prakarn are in firm position at the moment, but they face Ayutthaya and Samut Sakhon which can be tricky ties.

Can't see Yasothon doing it. They've got an inferior goal difference to Samut Prakan, too, so they have to make up four points.

I'd hate to see them or any other CE team not go into Div1. If this was the case, there'd be calls for CE being the weakest link in the pyramid.

A proud moment (or at least for me) was the apperance of my brother-in-law for The Andaman Eagles (Krabi F.C.) at the weekend. At only 16 years of age, he was pulled away from his older brothers pop concert to sit on the bench, to make his debut with minutes remaining.
Asked if I could have his shirt, he proclaimed to say no, as the kit was needed for next seson.
Life at the bottom table.

Haha, PU players are not allowed to give away their kits. If they do, they will have to pay it from their own pocket.

Haha, PU players are not allowed to give away their kits. If they do, they will have to pay it from their own pocket. This is the strange thing. In TPL, teams have 3 kits in some cases. Yet in RL, some teams generally have just the one shirt per player. And it seems they take the kit home and wash it or whatever. If it was my older brother in law, he's wear it for doing his school lessons, wear it when cutting down the palm oil fruit, everything. Come match day, his mother would wash it and he's have to play in a same coloured shirt of an English team! Big contrasting fortunes from top to bottom.

I remember someone on here virtually mugging a Chantaburi player for his shirt.

Is it possible Nonthaburi fans are getting a little melodramatic?

yes it's looking pretty bleak for Ayutthaya at the moment. I couldn't get to the match last week but I hear the official reason for 4-0 loss was the ref. It all comes down to this match against Samut Prakhan, if Ayutthaya win there is still hope, a draw sinks any chances.

I'll be at the game between Nonthaburi and Keasetstart tonight. Should be interesting for two reasons: first, this is the team that walked off against Eka in the Toyota Cup and second, anything less than a win would bury Eka's play off hopes.

If you see another 'farang' at the game tonight it could well be me. I had no idea that this game was taking place until I read your post. My girlfriend is an ex Kasetsart student so I'm going to treat her to an evening of Thai second division football. At least she'll have a team to cheer for. That is of course provided they stay on the pitch for the full 90 mins.

Come over and say hi. There is also another afrang, an older guy named David. His daughter is married to teh son of Nonthaburi's owner so be nice to him :-) Kick off 1730.
