Nonthaburi FC are now playing in Nonthaburi. I'm in contact with their fans trying to work out exactly where they play.

I don't have enough time to start a 3rd blog, so I may just merge my Raj blog with a new blog on Nonthaburi FC. I'll make sure they are here to stay first, though.

Can anyone help out with this? Something about foreign players and whether they are eligible or not? http://www.thaileagueonline.com/site/news.php?id_news=274

I think there has been some issues with Pattalung and Phuket's signing of African players, too.

I think that he's just asking for clarification on the rules regarding foreign players and suggesting that they cut back on the numbers allowed in order to encourage local talent.

Thanks very much. As Steve Darby has said in the past 'What's the point in signing foreign players if they are going to sit on the bench?'
Odd that these comments should come from our coach, though. Last year we had four Africans. One of which - Alain Njoya - could be described as a semi-regular starter; the other three just warmed the bench for most of the season.
This year, we've still got Alain but the other three players were let go. However we signed three more foreigners, so we've still got four. That said, I don't think the coach had much of a say over the signing of one of the foreigners.  Wink

I see that he might be on the bench this weekend. I guess that you're all looking forward to seeing him play.

The expectation is a little over the top from some of the fans. At the end of the day, he's a defensive midfielder. However good he is, a defensive midfielder is not going to single handedly sweep a team to promotion. We need our wingers creating and our strikers scoring.

I attended Nonthaburi FC's first home game against Thai Summit yesterday. Even before the game started, I had good impressions. The whole event was well organised. The club had designated staff on duty around the ground to help fans and answer any of their questions. A poster outside advertised season tickets (550b with a free Nonthaburi FC hat!) but today's game was made free to everyone. There was even free bottled water complete with the club logo on the bottle.

As it was the opening ceremony for the club, the match was preceded by various entertainment including dancing, a police parade (later on the police came to watch the game and drink beer, all the time in full uniform and full armory) and a speech from the club president. I was impressed the president made a long speech about football in Nonthaburi, it didn't seem to be the actions or words of someone here for the short term. Usually, the rich patrons who get bored with their club are those who keep a distance, rather than get involved.

The only downside for me was the obligatory opening day commentary by two emcees through speakers so loud it was physically painfull for me. I hope this was just a 'one off' and I won't be tortured like that for every game!

I was even more impressed when the game started. Nonthaburi sport a very sleek home kit and played the football to match. Number nineteen was particularly outstanding, as he gave Thai Summit's back line nightmares with his pace and trickery. Eka (the 'Crows' , the club's nickname) controlled the first half and took a one-nil lead. In the second half, Eka scored a second goal before Thai Summit pushed their way back and scored one of their own. This made for a very tense closing game but Eka just held on and took another three points.

All in all, a good day. Nontahburi FC look to be able, well organised and well funded. My only query to the club would be - why start games at 1730 when every other club starts at 1600? What are the floodlight costs for this?

But that tiny gripe aside, this could be an interesting run. With seven points from their first three games, could the crows be here for a long haul flight?

(Many camermen and photographers attended the game, I will link to some pictures when I find some)

Pictures of the pre-match build up, including hot women.

Pictures 2 + 3 are from a 'celebrity match' that took place prior to the actual match.

I hope I'll find some pictures of the game itself soon!

In a related story, Newin is paying 3,000 baht to every Surin player when they win a match. At the weekend they beat Nong Bua Lamphu 6-0.

I don't want to get into a political discussion here because it's not the place and I pride myself in taking no interest in the running joke that is Thai politics, but we are already starting to see the results of allowing politicians to buy football clubs.
A Buriram match has already been disrupted (apparently because they thought Newin was going to be there). We're probably going to see the same happen at Surin and PEA matches, too.

They had one but folded before the season even started! They wanted to be in the Central division but the FAT wanted them in the Southern Division. They also weren't sure if they had the budget to make it through the season.

Being young and Thai, the fans seem to prefer taking pictures of themselves rather than the game but there are a few good shots of the 1 - 1 draw here:

Newin is paying Surin players 3,000 baht each for every game they win.
He is, alledgedly, providing financial support to Buriram F.C, too.

Giving money to two clubs in the same division. There's a peg on my nose.

Surely it's not right to be paying someone else's team / players if you haven't got any links to that club?

The thing is, SRS, Korat F.C in their current manifestation bear absolutely no resemblance to the team I originally started supporting. So I would have no qualms about 'changing' allegiance because I wouldn't really see it as a change as KU would, to my eyes, be the spiritual successor to Korat F.C pre-2009.

So what's happened? I haven't really got the impression from your posts on here, or from your site, that you were so disillusioned. It must be pretty serious if you feel this way.

It's probably just as well that Tero didn't relocate to NR, or you would have been supporting them!!! Wink

I think the KU story made me realise what I've been missing - or, rather, what I've lost.
I can't look forward to matchdays because getting to the stadium is an irritating chore - and getting back is even worse.
Yet again on Sunday I found myself crossing a motorway and crawling under locked gates so as to make it to the ground.
On the odd occasion after matches there has been a solitary songthaew waiting outside to ferry people the 15km back to the city; but not this season. Instead, I (and I'm not the only one) have had to sheepishly hang around the main entrance until some kind soul notices that I've got no way of getting back to the city and offers me a lift.
When they moved to the stadium (nearly two years ago) getting people to and from the ground should have been the absolute priority if they were serious about increasing crowds. Instead they can't organise so much as one poxy songthaew.
Admission has gone up (now two and a half times more than most clubs in the RL) and replica shirts have gone up from 250 baht to 400 baht. Funny, I could have sworn we didn't get promoted last season!
Alcohol is now banned from inside the ground - a nice reward for immaculate behaviour at every match, and still no matchday programme but that's ok because there's a choice of twelve SWAT CAT ringtones for you to purchase.

I can't stand the way that fans who have supported the club for less than twelve months are desperate for promotion. One poster on the official forum said this week that if we don't take four points from the next two matches then we can forget about promotion! That's the standard of fan we've attracted over the past year.

I don't care if we never get promoted. All I care about is that Korat F.C is an accessible club for the people of Korat; but it's not. Korat F.C is a club for families driving around in the latest gas-guzzler who dress their kids head-to-toe in Lacoste.
Korat F.C tried to run before they could walk. KU will play at the Central Stadium, and that's all I ask.

Am I right in thinking all the Bangkok D2 games were psotponed from today?

It's going to create a bit of fixture congestion for those teams, bearing in mind the D2 season already runs far longer than D1 or PL.

Greg, don't worry, they've only missed 2 games. It's not the first time that i've seen the Bangkok league miss matches, so they will be made up in the mid season break or midweek which isn't so bad for the regional clubs in Bangkok to play

I know it sometimes gets a bad press but I have to compliment Siam Keela newspaper. Their Div 2 coverage now extends to an entire tabloid size pullout with full match reports, line-ups, photos and ratings for every match.

I agree. It's a "thumping" good read. Wink
