Still 5 teams battling for one spot left. Amazing race.
I think we can assume Khon Kaen have made it, so it leaves.. 3rd - Nakorn Pathom - 47 4th - Chiang Rai United - 47 5th - Air Force United - 46 6th - Songkhla - 45 7th - Customs - 44 Next Week - Chanthaburi - Air Force United Nakhon Pathom - Customs Songkhla - Narathiwat Prachinburi - Chiang Rai United Final Week - Suphanburi - Air Force United Customs - Chiang Rai United Nakhon Pathom - Prachinburi Thai Honda - Songkhla Take your pick, it's still anyone's guess... And let's not forget about the bottom which is almost as exciting. Unfortunately your bit on the side will lose the H2H with Nakhon Pathom if they finish on the same points. With 2 remaining home fixtures, NP should be favourites to claim the last spot. Chiang Rai have to win their last 2 and hope Nakhon Pathom slip up. The dark horses must be Songkla with what look like 2 win-able games. Air Force must be kicking themselves for only gaining 2 points from their last 3 games at home.

..someone on my facebook site reported that about 8.000 people were attending the CRUTD macth. If KK and Chiang Rai go up, it may be a massive boost for the TPL.

Yes, I don't know the official attendance, but I saw the highlights and there was a lot of people there, same for KK. It's worth noting that CRUTD also brought at least 200 fans down for their away game against Air Force recently... It put's a lot of TPL clubs to shame.

Could it be because they're going to games instead of sitting at their computers?

Results so far :
Suphanburi 4 - 3 Chula PTT 0 - 0 Khon Kaen Nakorn Pathom 0 - 0 Customs Songkhla 3 - 0 Naratiwat Prachinaburi 0 - 1 Chiang Rai Utd
These results mean that Customs are out of the promotion race. Chiang Rai currently sit in 3rd 2 points ahead of NP & Songkhla with their fate in their own hands. Air Force are still in with a shout at 4 points behind with a game in hand.
The last relegation place is still far from decided also with 4 teams trying to avoid the drop.

Just back from watching Khon Kaen clinch promotion. Not much of a game : KK came for a draw and got it and PTT never really looked like scoring. A mad few minutes in the second half saw PTT get a controversial penalty - which the keeper saved - and KK denied a surefire penalty at the other end which, instead, resulted in a yellow card for "diving".
A good few hundred KK fans made the trip from the north east (and Laem Chabang) and there was a great atmosphere in the away end. I'll post a few photos when I get the chance.

Khon Kaen's point means they are definitely going up.
Four teams left fighting for the 3rd spot.
Chiang Rai really need to win to be sure. If they draw, and either Nakhon Patom or Songkla win, Chiang Rai will lose the head to head. If all 3 sides finish on 51 points, NP will go up (as long as Air Force don't get 52, of course).
If CRU, NP and Songkla all lose, and Air Force pick up 4 points from their remaining matches, CRU and AFU will be tied on 50 pts. In this case CRU will go up on head to head.

All of which could be irrlelevent. Proposal for the TPL to be expanded to 18 teams in 2011. Five to go up from Div 1.....?

Last catch-up matches before the final round completed.
PTT 1-0 Prajinburi RBAC 4-2 Chula Chantaburi 2-2 Air Force
That's PTT safe, and Greg's Raj survive too
The 4th relegation spot is going to go to either Chantaburi (34pts, away to Chula [9th]) or Prajinburi (35pts, away v Nakhon Pathom [4th]).
At the top, Air Force are no longer in the running, and the 3rd promotion spot will be taking by Chiang Rai (50pts, away v Customs [7th]) Nakhon Pathom (48pts, home v Prajinburi [12th]) or Songkla (48pts, away v Thai Honda [8th]).

Air Force Utd looked nailed on certainties for promotion at the half way stage of the season. They seem to have self imploded during the last couple of months.
Well done to PTT. They had a good run of form and have managed to pull away from the relegation zone even with a game to spare.

Congrats to Chantaburi for surviving the drop. I watched their game at Chula today. Chantaburi were 3 up after 30 minutes so that should have been game over. Chula rallied in the second half and scored 2 quick goals around the hour mark to reduce the deficit. One of the goals was a cracking shot from 40 yards out. However Chantaburi hung on after that without any major scares to ensure they'll be playing 1st division football next year. I was impressed with the way Chantaburi behaved. Most teams at 3-2 up would have been rolling around feigning injury every 2 minutes, but to Chantaburi's credit there were only 2 stoppages and to be fair I think both of them were genuine injuries.

God knows whats happening with the league, but by all accounts we have the following:
Champions: Sriracha 2nd: Khon Kaen 3rd: CRU
Top 3 promoted
In the playoffs:
4: Songkhla 5: Nakhon Pathom 6: Air Force United

After what I understand it won`t be decided before after the Asian Games (or whatever the upcoming tournament is), so it will probably be december before the games will be played. Anyway, the players and supporters of BU has been informed of the possibility to stay in TPL next season, by the club. It just gets effin' worse! What an absolute shambles.

Basically if any team fails in the first 2nd div playoffs they can get into to get into another playoff. So there is still hope for Bangkok FC and Rangsit Uni if they can squeeze into 4th place in their respective Div 2 Champions League spots.

Financial report from Division 1 (source Football Siam). It seems to get a bit messy after the top 6, so I'm only going to do these at this stage. Air Force Khon Kaen Chiang Rai Nakon Patom Sri Racha Songkla

I didn't realise Air Force were so well supported. I've just looked at some photos of their home match with Nakhon Pathom in October. There must have been 7,000-8,000 there! Are they in a populous area or have they done a lot of promotion? Strange that they attract ten times more fans than Army F.C.

They could probably have even more fans if BG weren't around. It's easy to hear their name and bracket them with Army but they have so so much more potential and character/personality than Army and even Police Utd. Kind of like Navy Rayong as far as the forces teams go.

Kind of like Navy Rayong as far as the forces teams go. In the history of Thai football, they have been one of the most successful sides, if not the most successful. That might be a reason why they continue to have a decent support despite the fact they are playing in the 1st division. BGB mentioned that they attract support from the Rangsit / Lam Lukka part of Pathum Thani. Add to that the populated Don Muang and Saphan Mai areas, and you can see that they have a large catchment area to draw support from.

I really like Air Force, but I'm a bit torn whether I want them in the TPL. If they stay in D1, then I have a good excuse to watch D1. If they make it to the TPL, then they will have to take 3rd place in my likings behind BG & CRUTD. Besides during Leg 2 last season I much preferred watching (and the all round experience of) D1 matches than TPL matches.

They certainly weren't getting anywhere near that number (7/8,000) last season. When I went with Nigb and Marco to watch them play Khon Kaen, there must have been only about 500 in the ground. And their club shop was a cardboard box on a trestle table. Anyway, good luck to them. They are obviously doing something right.

Songkhla will use the large Tinsulanon Stadium for their TPL play-off matches. They had used a smaller municipal stadium for most of the regular 2010 season.

Feel a bit sorry for SP being a junior partner. So we now have Customs, SP and Thai Summit SP. Kind of a hotbed of football. Worth a ground hop round there one weekend? Thanks for the news Loko.

Just saw the new kits from AFUTD. They now have two stars above their badge. I guess they are for thai championships. Does anybody of you know whether there is some kind of an official rule for that like in other european countries? As they have only two by 13 Championships, it seems the 1 * for each of the 5 Championships. http://www.airforceunited.com/shop.html

BKK73, thanks for impressive financial report. From my personal experience of the old days, Air Force has always been one of the teams with huge supporters from air bases around the country including one in NakonPatom, it's just that there was no marketing as it is today. Concidering number of new servicemen coming in each year and football activities within those airbases always kiddle the interest. One of my fond football memories was playing for one of the Air base team. Back then, I am talking about 30+ years ago, those who stationed outside Donmeung and didn't get pick or can't commit to schedules would end up playing for Glass Organization or Osothsapa as we could sneak in the evening before gameday on a free transport plane I have compiled condiderably frequence miles out of that.

I'd like to take credit for compiling the financial report, but it was actually Wolfman that wrote it and not me. It sounds like you've had some interesting experiences playing football in Thailand. I could imagine back in the days before football became commercial, that the Air Force would have had a strong pool of talent to choose from. These days though, it's almost impossible to have a day job and play football at the top level. I'd like to see the current Air Force team get back into the TPL but from what I've seen of them towards the end of last season, I think they'll be more likely to have a relegation battle next term rather than a promotion one.

Things have changed, in a good way that is, back the we were bunch of decent athletes with plenty time to train at recreational by International standard and called it, semi-pro. But with the required change to fit current Thailand football environment one fundamental factor going againt teams such as organization of such profassion. Naturally, people who have chosen to bo Police, soldiers or firefighters they do so because they find a set routines suite the lives. Professional sports required just the opposite. Athletes who love living on the edge and crafted business management minded who ready to jump in at every foreseeable opportunities are just not their cup of tea. Hiring a real professional business/sports ma anagement team maybe their best option but given their long tradion I doubt that will happen.

And they seem to have adopted the nickname 'Forza'. Seems to be another case of co-opting a European word (Ultra, United etc) because of the nice sound it makes rather than because of any real understanding of what it means. Their futsal team is going to be called I am Forza
