Well done Chiang Rai for keeping it interesting at the top. If anything, they have probably given the likes of Customs,Nakhon Pathom and Songkhla that bit of hope they were looking for. These teams have been plugging away but the gap has never kind of closed that much. Tomorrows matches really could make AFU nervy.

Down at the bottom, PTT drew, they themselves a few weeks ago looked like they would be the ones to pull away, but still sit in the relegation mire with games running out.

So today is Raj V Songkhla (for sure!) and I'll be there. Decided not to travel to Pattaya today.

Raj 1 Songkhla 3
The biggest thunderstorm I have seen in my life started up in the sceond half that made the game comical but Songkhla already had in the bag by then.

If Chiang Rai can beat PTT and Sri Ratcha next week, I think they might make it.

They have Suphanburi and Sriracha to host, i think they will take the 6 points here. And then the away games, winnable against PTT and Prachinburi and then possibly a toughie against Customs.

Not sure what order all the games are played in, but hey could just do it.

Air Force have Nakhon Pathom, Sriracha and Customs to play, all seem tough, all big 6 pointers.

Songkhla have Nakhon Pathom and and Khon Kaen to go to.

It would seem that NP have a big say in who gets promoted.

So the neutral fans wanting more regional clubs in the TPL.... the question is are you cheering for KK and CRU or KK and SKL to go up?
For me I hope Songkla go up but I hope they go back to their old stadium in Hat Yai and stick around in the TPL.

I think the likes of CRU and SKL need to stick around the 1st Division for a few more seasons, they aren't quite TPL standard just yet.

Sriracha will be better for going up at the first attempt and could hold there own against what seems to be a poor bottom 8 teams in the current TPL setup. Nakhon Pathom and Customs I think could also hold there own.

Khon Kaen could well struggle like Sisaket. Touching on CRU and SKL again, i think one jump to much right now. Sisaket in my opinion went up to soon, they were 3rd level not long ago and seem to be paying for it now.

Of course, CRU and SKL could sneak in for promotion and it would be great news, but i think they would pay for it in the future, possibly turning into a club like Suphanburi.

I personally believe that clubs like Sisaket or Siracha do not struggle after going down. But clubs like Customs, Army and even BU (if they went down) will struggle.

Btw, Siracha goalscorer Gaston Raul had to spent a night in the hospiatal, because of food poisoning.

Have just looked at head to head, as it's so tight. KK will need to keep winning, as they are even with Air Force, lose to NP and Customs, and beat only CRU. (Songkla to play)

Interestingly, Customs beat both KK and Songkla, but have to play 3 more teams from this group.

Sri Racha will also have an impact on the promotion race, with matches against Air Force & Chiang Rai in the next two weeks, before meddling with the relegation zone, playing RBAC, Naratiwat, & Thai Honda.

PTT 2 - 2 Chiangrai UTD

A set back for CRUTD's promotion push. Hopefully Sriracha wrap up the title 2mrw and take it easy at the weekend for CR's visit.

A big set back. With games running out and at least four other teams gunning for 2 slots, then it will be a big hard push that is needed from CRU. I do think that after this weekends results we could just see CRU out of the promotion picture. But credit to them, they do seem to have come out from nowhere to have a light surge which they probably never expected.

It could probably be said that racing to last years Northern RL title didn't really help them prepare for the early stages of this campaign, as they simply didn't know what defeat was.

True, I'm sure it didn't help. They took a long time to settle in D1 and for a while looked like they would be heading straight back to the regional. I'm guessing the added travel took a bit of getting used to for them also.

Well, I still hope they can somehow pull it off... and if not then I hope for Songkhla.

Raj now only four points from the relegation zone. It seems unthinkable considering we have beaten some fo the best teams and deservedly so at home, but we need to beat Chula away to be certain.

I will go to that game instead of Thong V Army on Saturday.

The race for the final 2 promotion places couldn't be any tighter. I think Khon Kaen will make it but it could be any 1 from the remaining 5.
I'm planning on going to watch Air Force v Suvarnabhumi Customs today. It should be a turbulent game as both sides will try to hijack each others promotion dreams. The winners of this game will be flying high whereas the losers may well find their season is up in the air.

Bada boom... Wink

Yep, it's a big weekend for D1.

Nakorn Pathom will take 3rd place today unless Airforce win. They have got Naratiwat at home today and if last week is anything to go by, Naratiwat have completely given up now.

Songkhla should (kiss of death) get 3 points today fairly easily against Suphanburi.

Interesting to see how Sriracha perform against Chiang Rai now they have got promotion (hopefully not well Cheesy)

SriRacha need a win to seal the title and they'll have 500 travelling fans cheering them on, so I doubt they'll ease up.

Air Force 1-1 Customs. The game was delayed for an hour due to a torrential downpour prior to kick-off. The waterlogged pitch looked more appropriate for a game between Navy Rayong and Thai Port rather than Air Force and Suvarnabhumi.

For the 2nd consecutive week, Air Force scored early but were pegged back midway through the 2nd half when Customs equalized. On reflection it was a fair result. Neither side really possessed much quality and I think it's doubtful that either will be promoted. If one of them does get promoted, they would need a serious injection of finances to survive in the top flight next season.

I actually have some sympathy for the Air Force. They have a decent support and a stadium of their own that is big enough to accommodate any Premier League traveling support. Personally I'd prefer to see them in the TPL rather than the other lesser local teams like Army, Bangkok Utd or TOT.

At a guess I'd say the attendance was 3,500. Out of that the away support was roughly 150. That's pretty poor considering it's only an hours journey.  Sad

How things have changed! Two years ago you wouldn't have found 150 away fans at any TPL game (except for one involving Chonburi). Now a team as unloveable as Customs F.C are getting criticized for taking 'only' 150 fans to an away match in Div 1. It's news to me that they get that many for home games! They brought precisely zero away fans to Korat for an FA Cup match just last year.

D1 is division to watch right now.

It's really exciting both top & bottom, that brings Raj, Chantaburi & Prachinaburi right into the mix.

RBAC 1 Sriracha 5
Chula 3 Prachinburi 3
Air Force 1 NP 1
Chantaburi 1 Thai Honda 1

Overall, good results for Raj as both Chantaburi and Prachinburi failed to win. Andy's new mistress Chiang Rai United will be pleased AF and NP drew.

Still anything goes in D1. The reason Raj are struggling after looking safe just weeks ago is because the gap between top and bottom is so narrow.

Made the short trip along Ladprao to watch RBAC vs. SriRacha. Well the trip is short distance wise but time wise it certainly ain't. Strangely enough, I can get from my apartment in Ladprao 18 to the Leo Stadium in Pathum Thani in less time than to Ladprao 107.

Anyway, Sriracha won 5-1, a result which crowned them champions and a result that finally nailed the final nail into RBAC's relegation coffin.
A fairly uneventful first half ended with Sriracha 1 up. RBAC equalized soon after half time but the game soon changed when the heavens opened. The Marlins adapted better to the monsoon conditions and 4 second half goals eased them to a comfortable victory.

The gate receipts were announced as 9000 Baht. As it was 50 Baht a ticket that equals 180 paying customers.

Just got back from Air Force v Nakorn Pathom. You could tell the players were nervous, I've never seen so many misplaced passes.
Good crowd, est.. about 3,000 - 4,000

Anyway, as Greg so rightly points out, a great result for the chasing pack including 'my new mistress' Smiley
Looking forward to tomorrows matches.

Yep,

It's on their team badge as Cash Today Chantaburi... and on their (actually quite nice) website their name in Thai is แคช ทูเดย์ จันทบุรี เอฟซี.

They deserve to get relegated for that Wink

Still 5 teams battling for one spot left. Amazing race.

Hopefully KK will have it in the bag by the end of the month when they visit Raj.

We have Narathaiwat this Weds and RBAC next weekend. Both teams are down, we must win both games. There is conflicting information regarding the KO time for next weekend's D1 games so if anyone can get an official word, please let me know.

I think we can assume Khon Kaen have made it, so it leaves..

3rd - Nakorn Pathom - 47
4th - Chiang Rai United - 47
5th - Air Force United - 46
6th - Songkhla - 45
7th - Customs - 44

Next Week -
Chanthaburi - Air Force United
Nakhon Pathom - Customs
Songkhla    - Narathiwat
Prachinburi - Chiang Rai United

Final Week -
Suphanburi - Air Force United
Customs - Chiang Rai United
Nakhon Pathom - Prachinburi
Thai Honda - Songkhla

Take your pick, it's still anyone's guess...

And let's not forget about the bottom which is almost as exciting.

....and we are still swimming around, not sure whether head-to-head or GD count in the end.
