I knew I had some better ones somewhere. This is what it looked like the first time I went in March, 2007.

They are forever relocating.
They have their own stadium in Chaeng Wattana but they don't even use it, they use the Yamaha stadium for whatever reason.
They were said to be renovating that stadium so they could use it permanently. Haven't heard much about it lately, though. They're one of the clubs that I fear are 'making eyes' at Korat. Well, I never saw this coming! TOT rumoured to be favouring a move to Korat next season. All over our official webboard.

IF (and it's a big IF) that were to happen and they stayed there permanently it would be a big boost for the TPL. TOT currently lack a proper home and minimal fanbase ... at least their cheerleaders are quite fit! Now if we could only get the Police and Army to relocate to somewhere where they would be supported and loved It's been said by several people that it's not fair to fastrack provincial sides into the TPL on the back of an existing TPL outfit, but let's be honest ... there are sides in div.2 who are capable of winning their league but still may miss out on promotion to div.1 as they have to go through an unnecessary play-off system. I know ... the rules are laid out at the start of the season, but it still stinks!

I don't think there's a question of TOT and Nakhon Ratchasima F.C merging (if that's what you're suggesting). TOT would just play in the city as Osotspa do at Saraburi and TTM do at Phichit.

I wasn't suggesting a merger, but clearly a club playing TPL football is going to attract bigger crowds than a side playing in the 2nd division. Regardless of history and the presence of another team in a city, more people will go and watch top flight football.

TOT are like the visiting circus. No matter which province they end in, they will end up going back to BKK.
How can any fan from another province really count them as there own if they knocked on there doorstep?
TOT already have a home that they don't use. Why go and step on someone else's shoes? Why not try a province without a team first?

Don't forget the half dozen Thai Port shirted fans and photographer; the dozen Samut Sakhon flag waving fans; a few Chonburi shirts and a family who looked like they'd gone to watch the wrong sport and left after 15 minutes.

I think his point is that he has gone. So his loan has only been during the Slovakian close season i assume? So, will more be coming back at the start of the 2011 campaign?

I'm not sure - the article said he was returning to his old club, but it says Sena (Cena/Xena?), not Zilina, in the Georgian League. However, the average Thai's grasp of basic geography is tenuous at the best of times, so I'll take your word that he's actually in Slovakia.

On the possible Korat move: Suwat Lipotpanlop (Chairman of FAT's Advisory Committee) has denied rumours that he is (a) going to buy TOT and (b) move them to Korat. "I haven't given any thought to buying a team, but people in Korat have told me that they'd like to see a team from the TPL come and play there." Must have been talking to Vinnie. However, he's obviously someone who never says never, as he doesn't rule out buying a club in the future, or the possibility it might based in Korat.

TOT and Korat are a match made in heaven. Forever linked with each other.
Such a sad state of affairs really that a team such as TOT will just dump itself anywhere. Why not go to Mae Hong Song or Nan? There's no teams there right??

Had he just put some of his money and influence behind Korat F.C when the Regional League was launched, instead of spending the better part of the last two seasons musing on whether to move a TPL club to Korat, then we might have one foot in the TPL already anyway. Judging by his comments he obviously has no intention whatsoever of doing the honourable thing and backing the local club of the city he professes to care so much about.

The move is still not confirmed yet. The 'owner' of TOT-CAT FC is still musing on it. He's also seeking "cooperation" with Nakhon Ratchasima F.C if they do move (I know. I don't like the sound of it either).

Just reading this thread again, shouldn't Suwat Lipotpanlop resign from the FAT Advisory Committee before deciding to buy a club?
Regarding TOT, wouldn't they be more helpful in just sponsoring a club rather than running a club in another teams home town?

The latest I have is that TOT are not moving to Korat, but the two clubs - TOT and NRFC - are now officially linked in a kind of MTU/Phuket style. Our new president, who was elected on Saturday, is a guy from TOT and we will get some TOT players on loan. It's not really to my taste but it's a lot easier to swallow than it might have been. Particularly if you know who the rival presidential candidate was...(or, rather, where he had been sent from) Also, loving the new selection of smileys Charade I've a feeling this one will come in very handy when discussing certain aspects of the domestic game!

According to Wikipedia, BPEA are also linked to Rajpracha-Nonthaburi. I suspect a link with TTM-Phichit too, given that you generously loaned 5 players there, in addition to the 7 at Buriram FC.
For comparison, the same site lists MTU as linked to Rajpracha-Nonthaburi, as well as Phuket. MTU has players on loan at the following: Phuket (1), TTM (2), and Raj (1)
Do you start to see why The Chidchob's get more comment than others?

I don't believe that at all. However there is a link between Nonthaburi FC and Buriram as Nonthaburi's owner is friendly with Newin. I suspect whomever edited the wiki article got confused between Nonthaburi FC and Rajpracha-Nonthaburi.

Yes, there are. BEC-Tero are part of a five-way tie-up with Sisaket, Hat Yai, Ayutthaya and Chiang Mai. It's fair to say that none of these clubs are as closely affiliated as are Buriram and Buriram PEA. But I'm against all tie-ups. There are obvious conflicts of interest when the linked sides meet in competitive competition but the FAT/TPL seem to positively encourage these affiliations. The fact that we're now in a 'friendship' which has made us red-hot favourites for the play-offs in 2011 has in no way changed my opinion. I'd rather we were mid-table and independent than champions but shackled to a TPL parent club.

Honestly I am really careful about all those "affiliated club" things in the wiki. Couse I have the feeling that a club is affiliated as soon as he is sending a few players on loan. An affiliated club or a partner club, is something different for me. It is when you really signed a paper with terms and conditions, and things like exchanging coaches, stuff, players, knowledge in sport sience, all those things. Clear example for me are MTU - At. Madrid, BGFC with K'lautern and Leverkusen and even the partnership from BEC with those five clubs. Therefore Buriam FC and PEA, for me, is a totally different story. But maybe the partnership between those two is based on rules of a marriage-settlement.

That's the impression I get. The Thai natives I've spoken to, seem to enjoy collecting ''affiliated clubs'' from year to year, just like they seem to change club badge/logo from year to year. The only tie up i've ever heard of is the Buriram (god, won't this go wrong in a few years time?) and the one Vinnie mentioned. Everyone else must just be because of 'Loans'. TOT-CAT-Korat is the new faze, hmm, like that name. Now seems linkups are the only way to rush a team through the leagues only to be cannon fodder at the end.

The link up between two TPL sides has more potential for concern than the loans made by Buriram PEA to Buriram FC.The reason I state this is that FC play in the North Eastern League and PEA unlikely to meet. As for the dislike of the owner of Buriram PEA i feel that is more to do with his political views and as he is not a YELLOW shirt I can see why the people of Bangkok have no time for him. Yes, there are. BEC-Tero are part of a five-way tie-up with Sisaket

The huge majority of Bangkok people are not yellow shirts, so his not being yellow has nothing to do with it.

The Phuket-MTU relationship, and the Burirams' are the ones I'm definitely aware of. I agree with the general feeling on here that teams shouldn't be getting too cosy with each other when they're in the same competition - especially one with only 3 fairly close levels. I'd have no problem with Newin (or TOT, or MTU) owning a non-league side in addition to PEA and using it as a feeder club, or a reserve/rehabilitation side. It is also probably in Thai football's best interests to form relationships with overseas clubs in order to bring in resources from outside, and to provide possible pathways for Thai talent. MTU's relationship with Atletico Madrid, and BEC Tero's links with Arsenal are good, but the jump from TPL to La Liga or EPL is huge. The only Asians I can recall who've made a successful leap into a top European League from Asia in the last decade or so would be Nakata and Nakamura in Italy, and now Morimoto seems to be following. Most of the others either struggled, or came up through intermediate leagues. I think intermediate steps to lesser leagues would be more productive, and I think TTM's relationship with FC Seoul is a step in the right direction. Other leagues that could be looked at locally include Vietnam, Singapore, Japan and Australia, and possibly even some from the Middle East.

It appears to me that his political career is full of examples of him taking shortcuts to achieve success, and he seems to be doing the same in football. I can accept (but not necessarily like) that that's the way of politics, but it's not the way sports is supposed to work. That's why I don't like him.

Does anyone have any firm info on what's going on at TOT? There must be serious problems there. I mean, Korat is of course a wonderful place to live, but why would two foreigners leave Bangkok and a top-flight club for one in the Regional League for no more money that they were getting at TOT? It must be a sinking ship. Will they even start the season?

If they don't start the season, there is always Nakhon Pathom ready to replace them.

I'd like to see some sort of playoff system be used, maybe it could be playe midweek, a slot Wowrai looks like keeping open for himself.
Seriously, troubled times at TOT it would appear, sad really that a club that could have huge potiential just can't get it right. What is there marketing arm like in the business world? For a telecomunications provider they seriously are poor. Feel sorry for there small band of fans.
