hi i am currently living in thailand in pattaya. i have played a good standard before in england semi - pro level.

wanted to know if any of you think its worth a english player trying out for a team in the thai premier league. asking this as i havent seen or heard of  any english players at any clubs .obviously pattaya united would be a good option to start at as i am based in pattaya.

what monthly salaries do the ferangs get in the league. i see sirachra have a couple of ferang players and pattaya united have 2 as well i think.

any info you have would be great.

A guy who used to play for Stockport and Northwich Victoria is currently playing in the TPL for Nakhon Pathom. Michael Byrne is his name. You could probably get a lot of info from him if you can make it to one of their games.

I'll never forget the two English players who pitched up for a trial at Chonburi a couple of years ago. They lasted about ten minutes!!

They were so far off the pace.

Needless to say, we never saw them again Smiley

This Byrne fella looks pretty sharp, though. Saw NP's match last week and I expect him to have a good season.

I'm not sure about salary may be more than 50000 THB it's depends your performance when u trial. Micheal is a popular player of Nakhon Pathom now. Let's try to trial and success as well !!

More like 20,000 a month. That's why there aren't more foreign players over here at the moment. My mate played in the Thai Prem two years ago. Had to give up and start teaching English to make more money.

From www.thaileaguefootball.com

Muang Thong executive,Ronnarit Suewaja, reveals interest in proposing ex-Man U player, Lee Sharp, to join the team.

Sharp made a visit to Bangkok and played a special match between the legendary Thai players. He is still doing great job at his age (38).
Ronnarit also states that there will be a dinner between Robert Procureur and Sharp. Procureur will propose Sharp to play for Muang Thong in the second leg.

" We won't let him play full 90 minutes. At his age, he might play only 30-45 minutes. However I believe that he and his experience will help building our team to be stronger to win the league."
" We also hope to sign the contract with him. If he agrees to do so, he will definatedly help Thai league become more stronger and professional sooner. There will be Lee Sharp fever among Thai Fans too. We hope we will get full support from Football Authority of Thailand for bringing Sharp to Muang Thong and help pushing Thai Football into a bright future."

Regarding the contract agreement for Lee Sharp, Ronnarit says " We have to wait and see if he is interested. We might offer match by match or monthly basis compensation plus some more offers. It depends how much he is interested really. We hope it is successful. If it is, it will be big news for Thai,English and International news for sure.

I'm not so sure about this. I can't honestly see how it would "push Thai football into a bright future". An aging ex-pro who hasn't played a competitive game for a few years being paid a large amount (no doubt) for the odd appearance doesn't really get me excited. No "Lee Sharp Fever" in our house!

I can remember Niall Quinn signing for BEC Tero a few years back. And, if you substitute Niall Quinn's name for Lee Sharp's in the above article it was more or less what was said at the time. For the record, Quinn played in one match and was on the field for about 25 minutes.

Yes. It's a good bit of publicity for Muang Thong but that's all.

What was his name and who did he play for, Le Jim?

His first name was Adam, never knew his second name, but he played for the team that used to be Team Honda. He also played in The MLS in America as well as Australia's top league.

"His first name was Adam, never knew his second name"

A very good mate then ; )

I expect that Lee Sharp will be paid a lot more. I don't expect that he'll have to resort to teaching English : )

It's great that an Australian is interested in the Thai League and normally the Thais should be interested in the Aussie League. You get a lot lower pays in Thailand than in England though, just to let you know.
