I think thats a bit harsh, they have given the top teams some tough games, taking points off BEC and Chonburi, they just had a bad start and needed to catch up on a lot of games.

Having the Army, Navy, Polie and Air Force gives the league a different feel to the business teams, so they are a unique entity in themselves and add something different, maybe not crowd wise, but a bit of tradition.

Looks like the Army will be back in the TPL next year.

Has anyone seen them in action this year? Do you think, if promoted, they can handle themselves next time around?

Would it be a good idea for the Army to form closer links and even join the Navy in using an area's name, possibly RTF Din Daeng? Or would this just cause uproar?

I watched them struggle to a 1-1 draw against Rattana Bundit @ Army Stadium earlier in the season. To be honest I was more impressed with Rattana Bundit! I think the Army team must have been having an off day.

I've also seen 2 of the other promotion chasers in action this season, Khon Kaen (twice) and Police United. Khon Kaen played poorly on both occasions, drawing one game and losing the other (I think i'm a jinx for them  Wink). Police Utd looked a decent side when I saw them, and I'd say that they would have the best chance of surviving in the TPL.

Going back to the Army...It'll be interesting to see what sort of crowds they get next season (if promoted). When I was there, the attendance was no more then a hundred or so, despite it being free to get in.

I love the fact that the Army used to be sponsored by FHM magazine.

Not surprised, he's never going to get a look in with Anon on fire. But I think they need to keep him as they have 7 games in 30 days.

It hasn't helped that BEC have had a stuttering start to the campaign with all the postponed fixtures.

The rematch in the league against PEA on 9th October will be a tasty affair. I'll have to go along and get a ringside seat.

Yeh I might go to that if no other games are on. At least there's never a problem getting tickets for that stadium :-)

The Army are still hanging on to their top flight survival status by a ball hair after tonight's unexpected 3-3 draw against MTU.

Their last 3 games are:
PEA Buriram (H)
Thai Port (A)
Navy Rayong (H)

I guess we will have the showdown on the last game between Army and Rayong, battling for the last survival spot.

So Army have changed there name? Is there not any rules about changing names during the course of a season, or do FAT see the playoffs as the start of a new season?

Is this just a name change that Thai people do when they are doing badly, will they change again next year? Is this just a fad? I mean come on? What's the story behind all this.

Actually in that case it was far more rational. They changed it as they hope to attract more sponsors and locals.

Is any company mad enough to want to sponsor the Army with the repercussions that could happen?

If the name change was to attract more locals then the Army went well and truely wrong. Whats wrong with Din Daeng United?

Because they like to stick to it like the Air Force and the Navy?

The best sponsor the Army ever had - indeed possibly the best sponsor any Thai team has ever had - has to be FHM magazine. Wink

Only in Thailand. Smiley

What's wrong with 'Revolution' like that MLS team? It could easily help freak opponents out or dispurse them, too :-)

So the Army survived by the skin of their teeth. Whats the odds on them going down this year?

I find a dull season for the Army really, well, um except for the PEA encounters, i hope they get drawn together in the FA Cup, League Cup and then throw in another tournament for the sake of it to go again.

None?! In the worst case we will have play offs for our 20 club league.

I don't think they'll be relegated this season. They should have learned from their experience last season and should be better prepared for this campaign. Add to that the turmoil at TOT and Navy, who both look like relegation material, then the Army should have enough to stay up. I can see them finishing somewhere between 12-15th. If they do finish in the relegation zone, there is always league reconstruction to save them.  Wink

It will be interesting to see how their new Brazilian players get on. They could be great signings or they might be absolute duds.

Interesting choice of  terminology, reconstruction instead of revolution? Smiley
