It was great to meet up with a few people from here on Saturday. Marco, Nigb, Jakarta Casual and even a couple of German "groundhoppers" who were on a whistle-stop tour of South East Asian football stadiums.
I've posted a match report (of sorts) on the TPL 2009 thread.

Glad to see you fixed the letter "A" on the back of your shirt, Marco. : )
""On the show coach Sasom was bitching so much about our four losses...he said the way we were playing should not have lost any, and at least all those matches should had been a tie and so on. He did mentioned about referee's below standard performance as well."
I said at the time that you probably deserved a draw against Chonburi. However, like in a lot of cases, the coaches are always too quick to blame the referees. Certainly in our game your strikers should bear the brunt of the criticism for not doing what they are supposed to do and stick the ball in the net.
I do like the phrase "bitching so much". I'm going to use that myself : )

I haven't had chance to watch it yet. I promise I'll give it look this evening.
Talking of referees - we saw the most bizarre officiating at the Korat v Buriram match on Saturday. I'm not sure whether Vinnie will mention it in his report or not. If he doesn't, I'll post something on here. It was most odd.

His goals to games ratio is impressive. However, there have always been question marks against his temperament. On the last couple of occasions that he's played against Chonburi, our fans have managed to unsettle him by indulging in some good natured barracking. He really couldn't handle it.
Compare this to Leesaw who seemed to revel in it and came over to applaud us afterwards.

It will be interesting to see how strictly these rules are enforced. I remember the ASEAN Cup Final 2nd Leg match at Supachalasai in 2007. Similar measures were announced and the authorities seemed to be true to their word prior to kick off; bags were searched and certain items were confiscated etc. However, within 10 minutes of the match starting the stadium was awash with beer, which the vendors were selling through the gates downstairs.
By half time they were freely walking around the stadium selling drinks from trays.
I hope that Thai Port don't have any more crowd problems because there's no doubt that their large passionate support is just what the TPL needs.
Maybe more importantly, I hope that the stadium will be safe. It was at full capacity when Chonburi were there and, even with the extra stand, it's difficult to see how it can accomodate that many more people. The entrances and exits need to be looked at as well. I didn't get a good look when I visited but I only remember seeing two places where the supporters could get in and out. (Marco?)
I think that safety will become a big issue as the league continues to grow. I'm really hoping that we don't have any major problems but it is a concern of mine.

Good to hear. Selling tickets in advance is a good move. Let's just hope that it works.
As much as I'm pleased to see the increased interest in Thai domestic football, I think that there are a lot of issues that need addressing soon in order to make sure that the local game can continue to grow and improve.
This topic probably deserves a thread of its own.

Thai Port have released their squad list for the second half of the season, with a message from manager Sasom Pobprasert.
"Although the squad does not have many big name players, I'm sure I can take my team to a top 5 finish with good tactics and good support. I intend to do my best, and I want to say thanks to the fans for always supporting our team."
There are 6 new players in the squad
1. Ekkachai Preechakool (Midfileder who has come back after a long injury) 2. Ibrahim Khalil Doumbia (Forward from Ivory Coast) 3. Attapong Wongsunthorn (Forward) 4. Wisut Bunpeng (Midfielder) 5. Ulrich Munze (Goalkeeper from Cameroon, had been playing in Vietnam) 6. Wa-lop Saejiu (Goalkeeper from Krabi FC)
*shock* are you sure about this guy? I mean his name sound 100% German. Ulrich is a typical german name for a boy or man, and Muenze (means coin in english) is also not that uncommon in Germany.

nice to hear, but sooner or later the prices will have to increase. If the requirements for the security are increasing, cause of more attendances, you need to cover those costs.

I also thought he must be German or Dutch when I saw his name . I just typed his name into google and it came back with this section from a newspaper article... "At the other end of the pitch, defender Brazilian Marcelo Barbieri and goalie Munze Ulrich from Cameroon succeeded for most of the game in thwarting any attempts by HAGL to end the deadlock". Maybe Ulrich is his surname then?? Not sure both is possible. Ulrich can be a surname as well as a given name.

I know this season @ Thai Port, for 1,200 baht you get a season ticket (15 games), a team shirt (home or away), a Thai Port Umbro rucksack, membership to the Thai Port Fan Club and a 10% discount in the club shop. I dont know if other TPL teams offer packages like this? Wow thats an amazing package. Even I like the Umbro brand very much. It's one of my favourites, kitwise. I even think about to buy the new white England Kit, but don't tell this to German peops, guess I get killed. Marco, how much is a ticket for cinema in Thailand? Never had the chance to go there, cause I copuld not agree on a movie with my GF. Cause I think even 100 Baht for adults, would be still ok.

Our local cinema charges B100 at peak times. At other times you can get in for B80.
Chonburi and SriRacha charge B60 but this price includes a 32 page matchday programme.
I think that the clubs do need to be careful about ticket prices. At the moment it is affordable. However, even a slight increase might put people off. As most clubs now seem to have an outlet for selling merchandise, I believe that this is where they can generate extra income. These items can be considered to be a luxury but the simple fact is that it is better to have people in the grounds. And the best way to do that is to keep charges at a minimum.

Shark, when I saw so many people wearing a Chonburi Shirt, during my last visit, I am not sure it still can be called luxery ....of course the prices for kits may have increased in the meantime. And of course if you need to increase the tiecket prices, you should do it slightly over the next seasons and not jump from 50 to 100 or so.

And of course if you need to increase the tiecket prices, you should do it slightly over the next seasons and not jump from 50 to 100 or so. Shirt prices throughout the league range from B350 to B800. There are still a lot of grounds around where it's possible to watch the match for free - I'm going to one today. If the clubs were able to address this and charge those people they probably wouldn't need to consider putting up the prices for the rest of us. One of the things that concerns me at the moment is how the authorities will manage the current interest in the domestic game. There's no doubt that this is a great period to be following Thai football but if the clubs and FAT start to get too greedy they may drive people away. A lot of games are now being televised and the major European league seasons will be getting underway shortly so the TPL will face some stiff competition. Now is atime to be sensible and not to be "cashing in".

Yes, there was a guy from FIFA there who was introduced to the crowd and the players before kick-off. He was probably impressed by the attendance and atmosphere; perhaps less so by the amount of people standing, particularly on the far side (it seemed to be standing room only), and by the countless wild challenges and niggly fouls.

You'll definitely be getting my support on Wednesday after that. Thanks ; ) Thanks mate! I'm not sure how many Thai Port fans will be joining you. The ones I've spoken to said they would like to go, but wouldn't be able to make it to Rayong in time, due to work commitments. The fans who went to the game told me that the security measures that were announced for PAT stadium, were carried out very strictly. No cans or bottles inside the ground, and bags were searched. They also said that some AFC Executive Officers were at the Stadium to observe, and are considering upping Thai Leagues quota of teams into the AFC competitions (though 1 guy reckons they were from FIFA) we'll have to see what happens I guess. Are you saying that Wednesday afternoon isn't a convenient time to stage a football match?!!!

Cause I think even 100 Baht for adults, would be still ok. Loko, I think you are better off not having the England shirt . I did once buy a Germany shirt when I was a kid, I even chose it ahead of an England one...What was I thinking? : . I'm pretty sure it costs about 150 baht for a cinema ticket. I haven't been to the cinema in Thailand for a while, so i'm not 100% certain. You make a good point though. In England you will pay 6 or 7 times more to go and watch an EPL match then you would to go and watch a movie, mostly due to the astronomical wages paid to EPL players. I guess with Thai football it's down to supply and demand. If the attendances at TPL matches keep rising then the ticket prices will probably rise to reflect that demand, especially now that the clubs are being run as proper businesses. The cinema ticket comparison is a valid one as there was a time when the price of a cinema ticket and the price on the turnstiles was about the same in England. Korat is 40 Baht for league games and 50 Baht for FA Cup games. It was free when I first started going.

In reply to Marco's kick off time question :
We've been asking that for years!
As far as the league is concerned it's much better than it was. During the 2007 season 9 of our last 15 games were played midweek, mostly with 4/5 o'clock kick offs. I had a lot of dental appointments during that period ; )
I guess as this years FA Cup was a bit of an afterthought, they haven't really given it much thought. I can only hope that they show a bit of sense and reschedule, especially with the later rounds. I've already posted my ramblings about this on the FA Cup thread.

it will be opposite the main stand and three levels. Nothing seems confirmed yet as they are looking for a construction company. Maybe they don't have the budget for what they want. I read that they intend to construct it at the end of the season. capacity will be 10 000.
You can chack for details from your Thai Port Buddies - ด้านทีมอันดับ 5 อย่างการท่าเรือไทย ที่ตอนนี้แฟนบอลย่านคลองเตย ต่างตอบรับกระแสไทยลีกอย่างหนาตา เล่นเกมไหนในบ้านแฟนบอลเต็มความจุ 5.5 พันคนตลอด ล่าสุดยัง สร้างสกอร์บอร์ดดิจิตอล ราคาหลัก 1 ล้านต้นๆ เลยทีเดียว

I read that they intend to construct it at the end of the season. Capacity will be 10,000. That will be great if it happens! 10,000 is probably a good size ground for us. If we continue to improve on the pitch and our fanbase keeps growing i'm sure we'll be able to fill a 10,000 stadium. Am I correct in saying that the close season is only a couple of months this year? If so I can see Thai Port playing alot of away games at the start of the next campaign, depending on how long it takes to build the new stand. The new season is scheduled to start in January, 2010.
