Do Chiang Rai United use the Chiang Rai Provincial Stadium for their homegames? I`m trying to add all teams stadiums into Google Earth.

Maybe a good place to discuss Chiang Rai F.C. aswell?
Formed this year, but why when there is already Chiang Rai United?

They have this big lump of a striker who must stand about 6'4. He's Brazilian and looks like a cross between Frankenstein and Georghi (ex TOT). Last week he almost scored with a spectacular overhead kick against Air Force. Could he be the man to lead Chiang Rai to promotion this season?

That would be Edvaldo. I didn't recognise him last week when you asked me, but he previously plied his trade with Thai Port last season, I think... (correct me if I'm wrong). His overhead would have been of Trevor Sinclair proportions if the keeper hadn't have saved it. He could be a major player in the next few games, but whether he has whatt it takes back at TPL level remains to be seen.

Yeah Edvaldo, that was his name.
The remaining 4 games are:
Sri Racha (H) Supanburi (H) Prachinburi (A) Customs (A)
A win tomorrow would certainly see them on their way. It may well come down to the last game against Customs.

The impossible 6 games ago still looks a possibility...
Chiang Rai UTD 4 - 0 Supanburi
3rd - Nakorn Pathom - 47 4th - Chiang Rai United - 47 5th - Air Force United - 46 6th - Songkhla - 45 7th - Customs - 44
Next Week - Chanthaburi - Air Force United Nakhon Pathom - Customs Songkhla - Narathiwat Prachinburi - Chiang Rai United
Final Week - Suphanburi - Air Force United Customs - Chiang Rai United Nakhon Pathom - Prachinburi Thai Honda - Songkhla
It's going down to the wire..

I want to give a mention to Chiangrai Hills FC (thx Loko). They are an exclusive Hill Tribe team based in Mae Chan and it's a project that is close to my heart for various reasons. Chiang Rai United are also heavily involves with this team, credit to them. There are two very good websites with details about them and their ambitions. http://chiangraihills.com/welcome.htmhttp://insiithaihouse.com/chiangraihillsENG.htmIt would be awesome if they were able to compete in D2 next year

The amazing results fall for Chiang Rai United again.
Prachinaburi 0 - 1 Chiang Rai UTD
Nakorn Pathom 0 - 0 Customs
They are now 2 points clear of NP & Songkhla
Their fate is in their own hands. A win next week at customs will put them in the TPL.
8 wins and 2 draws from the last 10 games have made it possible.

With Customs out of the promotion race, and the momentum on CR, I see them in the TPL next year. I think there will be many fans travel down from the far north to Bangkok. Guess it will be a sold out crowd.

What ha The rule obviously doesn't apply for the Bangkok division even though it does, as you say, contain teams from Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi. The rule must necessarily be scrapped in the future but they'll probably get rid of it by creating a fourth tier. In fact, a fourth tier must be created because Chiang Rai Hills are the tip of the iceberg, or rather, the tip of the mountain. There are dozens of teams all over the country desirous of playing in the RL - there are at least two in Korat city alone - but there simply isn't room for them in the present structure.

Perhaps Chiang Rai Hills, and those Korat clubs could do what the Pathum Thani clubs do and enter in a different region? (Rose Asia [C&E]. Pathum Thani [Bangkok])

The divisions will just become too big in the end, though, Wolfman. Three of the five divisions had sixteen teams already in 2010, and I don't think they should be any bigger than that given that there are only sixteen in the TPL. The FAT will realise - if they haven't already - that a fourth tier is the only long term solution.

Just got back from Customs v CRUTD.
Hands down the best game I've been to this season in terms of atmosphere and fun.
Unbelievable achievement by CRU. If anyone has the league table from the half way point or even 12 games to go, I'd love to have another look at it. You would have got 200/1 on Chiang Rai Utd at that point.
I'll post some photos in a bit.

Cheers Andy, was a great day... I can't quite believe Chiang Rai Utd made it, in my mind I still think of them as a freshly promoted team trying to find their feet in Division 1. I think they will be a solid TPL club next year as the management has a good grasp.

My understanding is with 12 games to go they were 10 points behind the top 3 and laid in 9th position.
So many teams above them were in mch better positions, such as Thai Honda and Air Force who just folded

Also, here is me with Chiang Rai Hills. I asked 'Count' Gerald van der Straten Ponthoz or Count Gerry as he is known, the founder of CRH about the proposed move into D2. He said it wouldn't be met by any objections from D2, but he, himself is not prepared to do it until he feels the team is ready as he doesn't want to embarrass the club if they are not ready. They are also half way through building what looks like it's going to be a very impressive stadium. Good luck to all involved.

He did mention Chiang Rai FC though and said he didn't want CRH to join and struggle like them... but that doesn't really mean anything.

Thanks v. much Wolfie. A great photo of 'Teco' who took over in July and started the winning streak that led to promotion.
...and most probably will be sacked next season after the first five matches... Or he might go before that happens (or much sooner) And maybe I know where to, but that might be putting 2 and 2 together and getting 783.

Seems Teco has done a u-turn and has signed a new 3 year deal, so he shouldn't be leaving now. Great news if he can keep up his remarkable record into next season in the TPL.

Chiangrai United so far: The sky is the limit!
In less than two years Chiang Rai gained a prominent presence on the map of Thailand! Never before Chiang Rai has been mentioned so many times on television, in newspapers, in magazines and on internet sites. Wondering how it happened you might think of many reasons, but the truth is simply this:
A football club, Chiangrai United FC, was founded in 2009, became that year champion of the northern league, promoted after successful play-offs with the other regional champions to the national First Division and did what only two other clubs managed to do in Thai football history: At the end of the season of 2010 they promoted again, this time to the highest level in Thai football, the Thai Premier League.
Chiangrai United FC is writing history: Our town suddenly belongs to the top of Thailand, so far only in football, but thanks to all the publicity the side effect will be that among others the tourism industry will benefit enormously, not only because of the thousands of supporters of visiting clubs but simply by the new ‘branding’ of Chiang Rai. The spin-off of Chiangrai United’s glory will be noticeable all over this province and benefit many.
The professionalism of the ‘founding fathers’ of this successful club is reflected in their international orientation: In the two years of its existence we saw not only players from Thailand join this great team, but also from Ghana, Japan, Brazil and Rumania and the coaches came from Thailand, Brazil and Togo. The present coach, Stefano ‘Teco’ Cugurra is not only a former player of Vitesse (Arnhem, Dutch Premier League), but gained fame in Brazil as coach of the U20 national team and finally won three times the national championship in the Indonesian Premier League with Persebaya FC, the famous club of Surabaya with its not less (in)famous ‘tifosi’. Two of the players of Chiangrai United FC have been playing European Cup Football. Brazilian Edvaldo Pereira won the Swiss Championship with St. Gallen FC in 1999 and played thus for the Champions Cup and Rumanian Leontin Chitescu played with CFR Cluj in the UEFA Cup in 2005, where this team ended as runner-up.
For an English language forum like this it might be rather interesting to see which foreign players are part in the success of this great team, but that should not overshadow the great Thai players of Chiangrai United. Like for instance our unsurpassable Wasan Natasan who was elected by the Thai Football Association to be the best striker of the First Division of the Thai Premier League in the year 2010.
The last two seasons Chiangrai United FC has mainly been playing in the thirty years old stadium run by local civil servants. The condition of the field is not good enough for Premier League football, the risk of injuries is too high and, very simple, and you can’t play good football on a tubers field. At the moment the United Stadium is built, the future official stadium of Chiangrai United. The construction site is situated about two hundred meters in front of the (new) airport. If everything goes the way the team and its thousands of supporters hope for, it might be possible that the second leg of this year’s league can be palyed there.
This year the team, like during the first months in 2009, will have to play again at the beautifully situated stadium of the Mae Fah Luang University, forcing thousands of enthusiastic Chiangrai United fans to travel 35 kilometers to the north for the home-games. Yes, six to seven thousand loyal supporters our team can count on. Among them though a growing number of foreigners living in Chiang Rai. Many of them didn’t visit a football game life in decades, but now they join the Orange Power Fans and their choir as well: Chiangrai! Chiangrai! Chiangrai! Susu! Susu! Susu!
The first upcoming match:
This Sunday, March 13 at 6 PM at the Mae Fah Luang University Stadium history will be written:
The first ever Thai Premier League match (and the first home game in 2011 of Chiangrai United thus) that will take place in the North of Thailand and the most Northern Province, Chiang Rai, has the honor to host it: Chiangrai United FC versus SCG Samut Songkhram
The 2011 Thai Premier League is only a couple of weeks old. Both teams played two matches. Samut Songkhram won at home of Sisaket FC and their away game in Sri Racha ended in a draw. Two weeks ago Chiangrai United lost away in Phichit against Phichit’s Korean star player Song Ji Yeon who put the first hattrick of the season on his name. Last week Chiangrai United won away in Chonburi of Siam Navy with a convincing 3 – 1. Enjoy the game if you so wish! Advance ticket sales at CRUtd’s Fan Clubs in Chiang Rai (opposite IT-Plaza at King Mengrai and four hundred meters south of Den Ha at the old Chiang Mai Road – left side).

It was a great atmosphere last night in the stadium of the Mae Fah Luang University, where Chiangrai United hosted Samut Songkhram for the first Thai Premier League game ever in the Northern Provinces. More than 7000 people travelled from Chiang Rai town roughly 35 kilometers to the north to join the historical spectacle: The fans were back and they brought friends! Also about 300 fans of Samut Songkhram had travelled about thousand kilometers to cheer their team. The first half hour Chiangrai United took the initiative, resulting in a well-deserved and beautiful goal .... as everybody thought! The goaly of Samut Songkhram theatrically gestured his defeat and the linesman, sharp-eyed as he must have been from his position on the wrong side of the field, joined the choir of the defenders that had seen a handball. The remarcable flutist, who approximately didn't walk further than six or seven kilometers during this game, was happy to rely on the judgement of his assistant and he thought the best thing he could do was to show a yellow card to the maker of the goal, our fantastic Edvaldo 'Vava' Pereira, for his protest against his decision. It would, and should, have made the game more open and thus more spectacular, this relatively early goal. Now the ball stayed most of the time on the midfield and both sides put the greatest part of their energy on the defence. It almost looked as if both teams were playing 'on the counter'. Hardly any good chances were created and there were very few shots on goal. At the gate there was always at least one more defender than a striker and this at both sides. It was as if they were trying to walk the ball into the goal, as all attacks went through the middle with hardly any distance shots: No risks were taken! At moments it looked as if both teams seemed to be paralysed by their fear to loose the ball. Alltogether both teams put good football on the carpet and the game remained exciting untill the last moment. Over all Chiangrai United was the best team and had a clear greater ball possession. For the fans of Samut Songkhram a party worth in taking a point home, for the fans of Chiangrai United the sadness of unjustified loosing two points out of the possible three. Please judge for yourself:

Part one of the story from Chiang Rai Hills FC. Chiang Rai Hills FC: A different Story. A little bit off topic, but as CRU is linked with Chiang Rai Hills, it should be fine.
