Phuket fan club formed during Suzuki cup group matches intent on creating Phuket FC. They claim to have the stadium, fan club and budget to match Chonburi. Thai league club take over plans are made after the conclusion of the Suzuki cup.

I hope they can do it, but I hope they don't take over a premier league club, I think we've reached our quota of that for next year.

I read something along similar lines a couple of weeks ago. A few "interesting" choices of names for the team were suggested!!

It would be a decent away trip but I agree that we don't need any more takeovers.

Get in there quickly, gennady28 Smiley

Wow, as you might can call Phuket the opposite to Pattaya, it might had been just a matter of time, coming out with that. I hope the FAT or TPL is making some rules very fast. Otherwise we might get a situation like in American Sports. :-(

I only wonder why they don't think much further. To start in the 3rd League building up a fan base and history and taking Muang Thon or others as an example, that you are able to advance to the TPL within 3 years. Would be much better.

Every area could in reality have a football club. The national games just showed that some areas not known for playing football were represented.

Having just been in Phuket the last few days I can say that there are many ex-pats into there football aswell as locals. Playing at home and getting interest is no problem. But travelling to and from Bangkok every other week for a game might just throw there interest. They should start locally, play in the 2nd Division South region. Get some rivallery going with the likes of Krabi, who also have a stadium, but they realise they can't travel up and down road 4 all there lifes.

The interest is there, but maybe just because of the AFF Cup recently. Actually organising on a weekly and yearly basis might be a bit too much, you have to be dedicated. Whereas hosting a King's Cup every other year might be what Phuket need rather than to jump straight into things, although would be good for the game if they could start from the very bottom and actually work there way up.

You make some very good points there, DF. It would be much better for them to start small and build up their TPL aspirations. That's what Chonburi have done. It's quite easy for people to look at us and see a 'big' club but it hasn't always been the case. We used to be a pretty average Pro League team playing front of crowds of a few dozen when I first started going. It's only by good planning and, obviously, enjoying a bit of success that has put us where we are now.

The travelling issue is a big one. When Chonburi played in the Provincial League I found it very difficult getting to away games - Satun on a Sunday evening with work the next day was out of the question!!

Incidentally, does anyone else remember the Premier League Travelling Roadshow from a few years ago?

I wouldn't want to see another club being taken over but it does seem to show that there is growing interest in the Thai league.

The 'travelling roadshow' wasn't that bad an idea considering the non-existent attendances at some clubs but with provincial sides in the ascendency I don't anticipate it returning.

Regarding the team name, I see no need of pulling the hair to find one. Just Phuket is fine. When the fans are happy they can scream out, 'Phukeeeeet' and 'Phuk-et!' when things are heading another direction. Smiley   On a serious note, Phuket and KonKaen are the other two of FAT's posterchild, in case you have forgotten.
