Manchester United's marketing machine is probably drooling over the prospect of having a Thai goalkeeper on the books, if only for a two week trial, just think of all them counterfit shirt sales thay could miss out on!

Expect Man U to be in next years Phuket Kata Cup.

I do remember Bobby Robson drooling over Chaikmedee, but work permits and a very big gamble never got this off the ground.

I doubt Fergie knows how to work a DVD player, so I can't see Kawin moving off the ground either.

In a totally unrelated matter, Southampton have confirmed they have appointed an international scout in the area.

Oh how I wish :-)

If I'm a scout, I'm an unpaid one :-)

Muang Thong coach wants top spot

Quote
Bangkok: Muang Thong United coach Rene Desaeyere believes two more wins will see his side top Group G in the AFC Cup after they outclassed Persiwa Wamena 4-1 at the Thunderdome Stadium.

Mohamed Kone, Teeratep Winothai from the spot, Soumahoro Yaya and Panupong Wongsa all found the back of the net for Muang Thong while Pieter Rumaropen netted a consolation for the visitors, who had keeper Andre Syrarifidun sent off with 20 minutes remaining for a professional foul.

“I think we should aim for first place in our group, but it won’t be easy,” said Desaeyere.

“We still have to play in Indonesia and we have to go to the Maldives, and we are at home against South China.

“If we can get six points out of our last three games then I think we can top the group, and then we can play better teams perhaps from the Middle East. That is good if we can play against the very top teams, that is good for Muang Thong United.”

However, the Belgian was extremely disappointed his men did not manage to keep a clean sheet.

“Of course, when you score four goals it is good, we had many chances, but what I don’t like is that we let a goal in and they had several more chances to score,” he added.

“We must concentrate, especially in defence. Even if we are 3-0 or 5-0 or 7-0 up, we have to remain focused. We have to stop giving away easy goals, it is something we have to work on.

“We should not have let a goal in against these opponents tonight, even though they played well, but we should have closed the door on them and we shouldn’t give chances away.”

Persiwa Wamena coach Zaenal Abidin admitted the Thais exposed his side's inexperience.

“Our players have less experience of playing overseas and for many, the AFC Cup has been their first experience of playing against teams from abroad.

“This is why we lost concentration and gave away too many free kicks.

“Muang Thong United’s first goal was unnecessary and we shouldn’t have given it away. After conceding, our players lost concentration and our level dropped after that.

“We hope that the experience we gain from our AFC games can help us improve and aid our long-term efforts in our domestic league.”

But despite propping up the table without a point to their name, Abidin is still hopeful Persiwa can make it to the last 16.

“We still have three matches, two of them at home, and we hope we can win our two home matches and also get something from our game in the Maldives. We are still optimistic,” he added.

“It’s important to note that we have been able to score in all of our games so far, so we still have hope of winning our remaining games and maybe qualifying from this group.”

The red shirts got Siam Paragon shut down today so I'd say Thai Port V MTU at the Supalachasai Stadium next week is touch and go.

If it DOES go ahead, do I attend that game or Raj V PTT?

Someone help me choose, please!

The way the season is goign Greg, the Raj-PTT game could be a rather onesided affair. PTT haven't got going yet. You might have more excitement watching a TP-MTU game that doesn't even start!

Male: Two second-half goals from Yaya Soumahoro helped Muang Thong United fight back from a goal down to defeat VB 3-2 at the National Stadium and take control of AFC Cup Group G.

After Ahmed Thoriq had given the hosts an early lead, Muang Thong levelled through Piyachart Thamaphan before Soumahoro struck twice to put the visitors in the driving seat.

Ashad Ali reduced the deficit to ensure a nervy final 15 minutes for Muang Thong but in the end, they closed out the result in relative comfort to pull three points clear of South China at the top of Group G.

I've been informed that South China have requested the upcoming AFC Cup game on April 20th to be cancelled or moved to neutral venue. Reasons being that South China cannot get insurance for the players against injury due to the country being in a 'state of emergency'.

Expect AFC to use it as a valid reason although they're 11 days until the game.

Expect the current situation to be used against any Thai teams in any future competition

Welcome to Asian competition Muangthong!

i wonder if insurance premiums for tourists have also gone up?

MTY staff were furious at the way they were treated during the away game against South China. Robert said they were placed in a hotel over an hour away with building work going on during the night at the hotel, and SC staff were totally unhelpful to the team.

Rennee promised MTU would be very motivated to win the return match.

Seems to be, at best, a very useful conincidence that SC no have a reason to move to a neutral venue. VB and Persiwa played here under martial law, why can't SC play during SOE?

Injury headache for Desaeyere
Quote
Phuket: Muang Thong United coach Rene Desaeyere admitted his injury-ravaged side face a tough task to overcome South China when the two meet in the AFC Cup at Surakul Stadium in Phuket but insisted it will not stop them striving to clinch top spot in Group G on Tuesday.

With political unrest continuing in Bangkok, the game has been switched to the south of Thailand and victory for the hosts will see them secure a home tie in the last 16.

But with only 14 players available, Desaeyere recognises that will prove a difficult challenge against a side they held to a goalless draw in Hong Kong.

“We’ve had a few injuries so our squad for the South China game is very depleted,” said the Belgian (pictured).

“We’ve left (Siaka) Dagno and Christian (Kouakou) in Bangkok because of injuries, and they were both playing very well.

“(Mohammed) Kone is also injured as well as Piyachate (Thamaphan) and Nataporn (Panrit) is suspended so that leaves us with only 14 valid players for our squad, so it’s going to be very tough.

“We have to keep playing the same as we have been playing despite the injury problems. We played very well on Saturday against Bangkok United (they won 5-1), but we will be missing at least four of the players that played in that game, and we now have some problems to overcome.

“We will fight, don’t worry, but it won’t be easy.

“South China will be keen on winning the game because if they lose against us it will make things more difficult for them going into the last game. They will come here to get points,” he added.

“It is really important for us to win and secure first place because then we will be drawn at home in the next round, so we will do everything to win the game of course.”

South China have problems of their own with Chan Siu-ki ruled out with a broken ankle.

Boss Kim Pan-gon, though, is confident his side can cope without one of their stars.

“We play as a team, not as individuals,” he said.

“Leonardo is very fit and with Au Yeung Yiu Chung, we should have no problems up front.”

Whatever the outcome of Tuesday's encounter, South China will have a second opportunity to progress at home to VB next week.

But Kim only has one thing on his mind.

“We are looking for three points,” he added.

“It is an important game for us. If we get three points, we could qualify as group winners. If we lose, we have one more game at home but we are not looking for a draw or a loss.

“Muang Thong are a very good team, each individual player has quality, they're very physical, have very good balance and tactically good.”

Disconsolate Desaeyere faces nervy finale
Quote
Phuket: Disconsolate Muang Thong United coach Rene Desaeyere has given up hope on claiming top spot in Group G of the AFC Cup and admitted his side's qualification hopes are in the balance.

Substitute Wong Chin Hung's dramatic late goal saw South China snatch a 1-0 victory in a feisty encounter that saw both sides reduced to 10 men.

The Hong Kong side now head the group thanks to a better head to head record against Muang Thong with both sides locked on 10 points. VB are one point behind in third following their 4-0 win over Persiwa Wamena.

Muang Thong travel to Indonesia to face Persiwa – who are yet to pick up a point – in their final game but Desaeyere does not expect his side to finish top of the pile and secure a home tie in the last 16.

“First place has gone and now we have to take at least a point from our game in Indonesia,” said the Belgian.

Muang Thong had Yaya Soumahoro sent off seven minutes before the break and Desaeyere felt that decision had a large influence on the final outcome even though South China were also reduced to 10 men due to Tales Schutz's 66th minute dismissal.

“Well, clearly the crucial point in the game was the red card for Yaya of course,” he stated.

“One of the South China Players fouled him and Yaya just pushed himself away, and for some reason the linesman, who was 50 yards away, signalled that Yaya had committed the foul and he was shown a straight red card.

“That was a key turning point in the game.

“We really didn’t start the game very well, and then we had the sending off. But in the second half we played much better. Even with 10 players we were definitely the better team. We played better.

“And then it was the same guy [Shutz] who used his elbow and he got red card.

“And then in the last minute they scored a goal and they didn’t even know if they had scored the goal or not.”

South China boss Kim Pan-gon, on the other hand, was understandably delighted with the result.
“It was a really good performance,” he said.

“Especially our mental strength…everybody was willing to win today.

“It was a tough game, Muang Thong are a strong side but we played well as a team, we defended well and counter-attacked.”

The performance also gave Kim plenty of encouragement last season's semi-finalists can progress once again to the knockout stage when they face VB on April 27.

“We have confidence that if we play like that against the Maldives team, we can win. This game was really good preparation for next week's encounter.”

'Professional performance at Persiwa please’
Quote
Malang: Muang Thong United coach Rene Desaeyere is confident a professional performance from his side will see them through to the last 16 of the AFC Cup when they take on Persiwa Wamena at Gajayana Stadium in Malang on Tuesday.

Muang Thong lie second in Group G on 10 points, level with South China, but with an inferior head-to-head record, and one ahead of VB. The latter two face off at Hong Kong Stadium but a win over the Indonesians will see Muang Thong through regardless of the result in the other game.

“This match is really important for Muang Thong. We came here to win and qualify for the next round. We will play it right with a professional attitude,” he said.

“We didn’t play professionally against South China and it surely cost us the game. We don’t want it to happen again.

“With all due respect to Persiwa, I think there’s nothing special from their players and tactics. But we’re not underestimating them, we will play our best. From how we have played in recent matches, I believe we will win and go to the next round.”

There is a chance Muang Thong could top the group if South China fail to win against VB but Desaeyere acknowledged that would merely prove a bonus.

“We only want to win. We’re not aiming to top the group. I’m pretty sure that South China will earn three points and the first spot automatically will belong to them,” he added.

“We only hope the weather will be friendly because rain will cause us problems. If the weather is good, we will win.”

Meanwhile Persiwa boss Zaenal Abidin admitted he is unconcerned over Tuesday's result, instead focusing on a good performance from his side.

“The score-line is not going to be our concern,” he said.

“We only use the match as a preparation for the upcoming domestic match in Palembang. It doesn’t mean we’re ready to lose because we are ready to play our best.

“Muang Thong are a really good team. They have seven Thai national players. They also like possession football and we must cope with their strategy.

“Our problem is on our defence. Our players are too egoistic in co-ordinating the backline. I have told our players to be more collective in order to strengthen our defence. We will work hard.”

Final  2-2
This is three games in a row we have conceded in the last five minutes. It brings back memories of Southampton FC. We need to work on this problem.

We now need a draw or win for SCAA in the other match. A win for VB puts us out.

This is three games in a row we have conceded in the last five minutes. It brings back memories of Southampton FC. We need to work on this problem.

We now need a draw or win for SCAA in the other match. A win for VB puts us out.

afraid not, it's set in stone you are finishing 2nd regardless of the result in Hong Kong. One away knock out match to Qatar or Bahrain is next in round of 16.

My mistake. I didn't check the table properly.

From: http://www.the-afc.com
Malang: Muang Thong United got the point they needed to qualify for the last 16 of the AFC Cup despite twice being pegged back by Persiwa Wamena in a 2-2 draw at Gajayana Stadium.

Datsakorn Thonglao gave the visitors an early lead that was cancelled out by Eddie Foday Boakai just before the hour mark.

Muang Thong regained the lead in the 65th minute when Mohamed Kone struck but Eric Weeks' penalty five minutes from the end saw Persiwa gain their first point in this season's competition.

The result also means the Thais are unable to top Group G whatever the outcome of the game between South China and VB in Hong Kong.

Rain washed out our chances claims Desaeyere
Quote
Malang: Muang Thong coach Rene Desaeyere felt adverse conditions played a major part in his side's 2-2 draw with Persiwa Wamena at Gajayana Stadium in Malang.

Muang Thong were twice pegged back by the hosts in an encounter that saw the Thais qualify for the last 16 of the AFC Cup and Persiwa pick up their first point in their final Group G game.

Datsakorn Thonglao put the visitors in front inside quarter of an hour when he took advantage of a defensive mix-up between keeper Timotius Mote and defender Izaak Konon but Persiwa equalised in the 58th minute when Pieter Rumaropen laid the ball off to Eddie Foday following a strong run and the latter found the back of the net.

Mohamed Kone headed home Datsakorn's corner after out-jumping Konon to make it 2-1 to Muang Thong seven minutes later but the Indonesians nicked a draw with five minutes to go when Rumaropen was impeded in the box and Eric Weeks converted the penalty.

The result means Muang Thong will finish second in the group as South China’s 3-1 win over VB at Hong Kong Stadium sees the Caroliners top the group.

The game was played in torrential rain and Desaeyere emphasised that had a big influence on the outcome.

“The match was so difficult for us,” said the Belgian.

“We couldn’t play the game the way we wanted to because of the rain. With water on the pitch, it’s so hard for us to pass the ball.

“The match should have been postponed because it’s impossible to play a proper football game in such conditions, but the referee thought otherwise.”

For Persiwa, it was an encouraging end to a tough campaign and manager Zaenal Abidin was delighted his side at least managed to avoid a blank return over the course of the six games.

“We played very well today,” he said.

“I’m satisfied with this result because finally we can get a point in this competition.”

“We could have won the game if Muang Thong’s first goal didn’t happen. It was a bad miscommunication between the goalkeeper and the defender.

“But overall, it was a good game for us.”

From mtutd.tv , not sure what the problem is really. We should just accept we lost and move on.
*******
Dr.Wichit Yaemboonrueng, TPL President accepted one goal of BG in the match of Bangkok Glass VS Muang Thong United had a problem but could do nothing with the results.

After Bangkok Glass FC won Muang Thong United 1-0 just few minutes before end the game by Amnart Kaewkiaw, board of TPL had comment during the meeting like this;

"If we replayed the VDO, we could see some problems of these shoot because before Supachai Komsilp corner kicked; Anawin Jujin had attended to continue game fastly but it seemed like other players did mistake. Suddenly, MTUTD players could read the game then ran over to get the ball then nearest line man decided to restart a ball again.   After we replayed the VDO to recheck; we found that line-man should not stop to restart a ball like that. Accually, he should understand the tactic of players how they play to avoid any disadvantages. Therefore this goal really had a problem"

"Although there"re a problems for this game but we could do nothing with the result now, then we will have a meeting among the people who involved in this case, especially Mr.Sanya Kanthavitee, first line-man. He has to explain why he allowed BG FC to restart a ball again." Dr.Wichit said.

TPL contacted to Mr.Somporn Patcharamukdaporn, president of referees to call all referees and line-man to have a meeting to solve this problem already.

Actually I have a bit of sympathy here... What happened was as follows:

When we won the corner that led to the goal, Anawin went over to take it, then he walked away to leave it for Supachai... Remember two of your players then run over (when I can be seen on TV clearly berating them for what I thought was blocking a corner attempt).

Well, I was wrong because what happened was Anawin kicked the ball slightly as he walked away and it did appear it was a short corner, hence your two running in.  Anawin clearly knocked the ball into play.

He claimed he didn't mean to kick the ball and was leaving it for Supachai. The kick seemed pretty deliberate to me, kind of like a bit of petulance that he wasn't going to be taking the corner.

Anyway, when I saw it, I felt pretty stupid being caught on camera getting carried away, especially as I was wrong. I said to my wife afterwards that I was surprised not more was made of the incident.

Credit to your players and fans for not arguing the goal with the ref.

It was fairly minor, but we have seen a lot less argued and protested by players/coaches/fans.
