Sorry, lads. You might as well hand over that trophy now.

We're going to win the league. I'm 100% sure of it. We've just made a new signing. Read all about it and discover why I'm so confident here :

Congratulations Muang Thong United. Worthy champions and well deserved.

However, how many of their fans can honestly be enjoying the taste of victory? 99.999999999% of them had probably never even been to a Thai league match before this season. It must seem quite hollow.

Bitter? Me? In footballing terms, no - the best team has finished on top of the pile. But, if any of their fans try and give it the "We are the champions" attitude, I'm afraid I'll just laugh. Good team, plastic fans. Smiley

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Thank you Dale. I'm sure we will take the debate up soon but today my sister in law decided to fall asleep at the wheel and seriously injured an innocent motorcyclist which took the shine off the day and tomorrow we are off for a three day holiday at Hua Hin.

If anyone hears any news of ticket arrangements for the BEC Tero game please do text me or call me.

Sorry to read that, Greg. When things like that happen it puts everything else into perspective. Let's hope the motorcyclist makes a speedy recovery and your sister in law isn't too traumatised.

I did'nt realise that MTU had won the league today! I assumed that the season would have an exciting conclusion next week. MTU would probably still have won it, as they have a 3 point lead and a slightly better goal difference....But it would still have been interesting.

I presume the relegation battle will be decided on head to head records if the points are level? I'm sure within an hour or two of next weeks final whistles, someone will be able to work out who's been relegated  :Smiley.

Yes. They won courtesy of a better head - to - head record. They probably would have won it with a better goal difference anyway but h2h  is no way to decide league placings. Yet another example of our glorious football association getting it wrong.

Grag, I feel sorry too, but also would like to congrat MTU for the championship. Nevertheless, in my eyes, coming down from 0:1, and making the final goal in the 92nd minute, looks to much of hollywood to me. And I guess a konf of a rivalry between MTU and CFC, had been set up now. If I do considering SRS comments as well.

I've just seen them celebrating on the news. Where the flip have all these people come from? Sorry, but it just makes me laugh. Fair play to the club and the staff, and the 20 or so fans they had before this season, but all the rest. Oh dear!

Hi Dale, as Nigb says I think a lot of these fans are born from the football explosion in Thailand. One thing that has struck me is how many MTU fans are young people who live every moment of it. You only have to look at the popularity of the fan site (it often crashes due to overload) to see that.
Like most English fans who don't support Man Utd, I have no time for plastic fans and know how to spot them. I've not seen many at MTU. The time to judge, I think, is when things are not going so well. Then we'll be better positioned to judge but for now let's give MTU some credit. There may have been some incidents on the way but MTU deserve to be champs.

Loko, I hope a rivalry has not been set up because I think in the current climate it could become a nasty rivarly rather than a sporting one and that could ruin the good atmosphere of Thai football.

Muang Thong champs , Yaya secures Thai Premier League title
Quote

Soumahoro Yaya's injury-time winner fired Muang Thong United to the Thailand Premier League title yesterday with one game to spare.

Soumahoro Yaya goes for goal against Osotspa M-150 yesterday.

Yaya scored both goals in United's 2-1 win over Osotspa M-150 at Thunderdome stadium but it was his second effort that sent the home crowd delirious just when it seemed his side were heading for a draw.

The Ivory Coast player fired Muang Thong ahead in the 12th minute but the visitors made it 1-1 before the interval through Jakkrit Boonkham.

Muang Thong piled on the pressure in the second half but, despite all their efforts, they could not breach the Osotspa defence.

MT's Teerasil Dangda had a goal ruled out 10 minutes from the end and the game then entered six minutes of stoppage time.

The home crowd roared on their heroes and Yaya answered in perfect style when he rifled home a shot with his left foot to secure the title.

The trophy will be presented next week when Muang Thong entertain BEC Tero Sasana at Thunderdome stadium.

The victory rendered Chonburi's 1-0 victory over Navy Rayong meaningless.

Kone Mohamed scored for the Sharks at Rayong stadium but it was not enough for them to win the title.

At Chalermpakiat Klong 6 stadium, hosts Bangkok Glass FC defeated TTM-Samut Sakhon 2-0 thanks to goals from Ajayi Samuel and Thanat Wongsupaluk.

BEC Tero Sasana enjoyed a come-from-behind 3-1 home win over Thai Port FC.

The visitors went ahead in the 33rd minute through Edvaldo Pereira before Wuthichai Thathong (two) and Kittipol Papungar turned the tables to grab all three points.

At Supachalasai stadium, TOT FC defeated Pattaya United 3-1. TOT FC went to 2-0 up through Madengue Emmanuel and Suchao Nutnum before Santi Chaipuek pulled one back for Pattaya from the penalty spot.

Kittipong Moonpong rounded off the scoring for TOT two minutes from time.

Cheerleaders keep the fans entertained during yesterday’s big match.
Sri Racha FC defeated disappointing defending champions Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) 2-0 at Sirindhorn stadium. Japanese player Saruta Hironori scored twice late on to sink PEA.

However, Sri Racha are still in danger of relegation and need to beat Osotspa M-150 next Sunday to have a chance of staying up.

At Chulalongkorn stadium, Chula United grabbed a point following a 0-0 draw with fellow strugglers Bangkok United.

Chula United face Pattaya United in a crunch match for both teams next Sunday while Bangkok United tackle Samut Songkhram.

Samut Songkhram consigned Nakhom Pathom to relegation yesterday with a 1-1 draw.

Nakhon Pathom became the first team to be relegated to the first division.

They will be joined by two others next weekend .

Fans create a sea of red at Thunderdome stadium.
Muang Thong United 2 (Soumahoro Yaya 12, 92) Osotspa M-150 1 (Jakkrit Boonkhum 36); Navy Rayong 0 Chonburi FC 1 (Kone Mohamed 52); Bangkok Glass FC 2 (Ajayi Samuel 29, Thanat Wongsupaluk 40) TTM-Samut Sakhon 0; BEC Tero Sasana 3 (Wuthichai Tathong 41 and 71, Kittipol Papungar 87) Thai Port FC 1 (Edvaldo Pereira 33); Samut Songkhram FC 1 (Lappe Jean Roger 77) Nakhon Pathom 1 (Guina Bai Roland 12); Chula United 0 BKK Utd 0; TOT 3 (Madengue Emmanuel 12, Suchao Nutnum 57, Kittipong Moonpong 88) Pattaya Utd 1 (Santi Chaipuek 59); Sri Racha 2 (Saruta Hironori 79 and 91) PEA 0

Just want to add that I totally understand where Dale is coming from. He's been into Thaifootball for a long time and has supported Chonburi the whole way. To see a whole new set of fans like me walk in and celebrate becoming champions when they have only been watching five minutes must be irritating. I would feel exactly the same.

Congrats to Muang Thong. Three championships in three years speaks for itself. Like alldo, I was flicking between the two yesterday although I watched more of the Muang Thong game. I was cheering Muang Thong on in the end because Osotspa were just so crushingly negative after their equaliser. They weren't even interested in getting out of their half and, of course, the stretcher was on more times than I can remember. No team deserves to get anything out of a game when they play as negatively as that.

Seeing some of the presenters from Siam Keela TV on the pitch singing at the end left a bit of a bad taste but we all know the situation there.

Chonburi can take plenty of consolation. They've been remarkably consistent for the last three years, achieving unparalleled success for a provincial team. By comparison, look how last year's champions got on this year.

"Seeing some of the presenters from Siam Keela TV on the pitch singing at the end left a bit of a bad taste but we all know the situation there."

There's a big black cloud over Chonburi province this morning. It's not a cloud of despondency but smoke from all the burning copies of that tatty rag that passes itself of as a sports paper.

Are you sure that the stretcher was on that many times, Vinnie? It probably only appeared once but some careful editing and splicing might have made it look like it had been on numerous times. I wouldn't put it past them.

As I've said before, well done to the club for everything they've achieved. It is quite remarkable and they deserve a lot of praise. However, all the showbiz bollox that goes with it really gets on my nerves. Some of us have long memories - in fact I need only go back to last season when the only away supporters they brought to Sri Racha was a bus load of African schoolboys. And the two bus loads of SR fans who went to the return fixture at the Blunderdome almost outnumbered the home "support".

But that's just the Thai way. They unashamably latch onto the best teams - we know that. It was interesting to see that the attendance at Bangkok Glass was already down on what they were getting earlier in the season.

I was watching Siam Sport last night and they were openly saying that "Our team won today"
they just don't seem to understand how destructive it is for the media to promote one club over the sport and league itself. I am seriously worried about the league self destructing as the media coverage and management decisions become a joke, soon what is happening on the field will become a joke.
It's been a great season and Thai football has been gifted with a new great club, MTU and exploding interest across the league, but there needs to be a big clean out before next season and I have a plan.... who's with me?

and to the second point... it feels like about 10 years ago I held the the Thai Premier league trophy, but lets face it, PEA got what they deserved thi season. We don't need management like this embarrassing Thailand in Asia. I hope that in the long run this season will be the best thing for the club. "you learn from your losses, not from your wins" and PEA management have lots to learn. I'm looking forward to a real PEA Ayutthaya and progressive club next season.

Maybe those two blokes who got a thumping at Chonburi will disagree with you there. I'm sure that they're more than aware how divisive the coverage is. Wink

Still not condoning it but it is how people think and react. And Siam Gila have brought it on themselves. Is the "Champions" DVD out yet? I must remember not to buy a copy.

More sucking up to the "Plastics".

"Muang Thong will represent Thailand in the AFC Champions League next season and this will be a real test for them. I hope they can go one better than BEC Tero Sasana who reached the AFC Champions League final in 2003."

And more sticking the boot in.

"I think it was good for concerned parties to punish Chonburi and their fans, and hope such ugly scenes will not occur again."

No mention of all the other clubs whose fans have mis-behaved this season.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Hi guys, I'm still enjoying a break in Hua Hin (why don't they have a footie team?). Seen three Chonburi shirts and no MT shirts though several people have approached me when I was wearing mine.
I do agree it is highly unprofessional for Siam Sport to show bias.

BTW Mister Shark, the management at MTU are not getting carried away. I was present when Robert Procurer explained to Matt that he is taking things slowly at the Thunderdome because he is aware that the support levels are boosted by the club winning the title and could drop off when the team are not in first place.
There's no arrogance from the boys in charge.

I don't expect there is. I've always maintained that they are a well run club and deserve their success. I don't have a problem with that.

But I do feel that having a multi-armed media company as a major investor is slightly (slightly?!!) worrying. Especially as that company is responsible for covering local football. They certainly played a part in getting the linesman banned after the incident at P*ttaya - how many bloomin' replays did we see? - and their selective editing is bordering on the criminal. I'm not really sure if the AFC has concerns about this but I would hope that they'll be looking closely at it.

Now, where's my copy of "1984"?

The Thailand v Singapore match would be an ideal opportunity for an official Thaifoobtall.com (sic) get together. What does everybody else think?
Good idea. Work and family allowing of course, but with since I have plenty of advance notice, it should be fine.

18th November is the date for your diary. It's gonna be big. I reckon they may get close to a full house what with the attendance boom this year.

Another extra trip to the Thunderdome to get my ticket this week. I do hope they let me buy a ST next season.

We might have to ask the BKK residents on this board to buy tickets for all of us in advance.

I've just started a thread for this :

Weren't BSKYB barred from buying Manchester United in the 90's, because it was seen a conflict of interest that would be damaging to the other clubs?

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/sports/25569/muang-thong-new-thai-powerhouses

More sucking up to the "Plastics".

"Muang Thong will represent Thailand in the AFC Champions League next season and this will be a real test for them. I hope they can go one better than BEC Tero Sasana who reached the AFC Champions League final in 2003."

And more sticking the boot in.

"I think it was good for concerned parties to punish Chonburi and their fans, and hope such ugly scenes will not occur again."

No mention of all the other clubs whose fans have mis-behaved this season.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

One thing that has been lost in all this.

What has happened to the gobshites who were throwing the punches (who can easily be identified from the video)? After the FA's stupid punishment against the club as a whole, the people who instigated the problem would appear to have got away with this completely. Have they been banned from Chonburi matches, and shunned by the other fans? Or are they dining out this act of cowardice and being treated as heroes?

They weren't at the match on Sunday and my understanding is that they have been banned indefinitely.

Muanh Thong's potential ACL Qualifying round opponents could be:

Da Nang (Vietnam)
SAFFC (Singapore)
Sriwijaya (Indonesia)

South China and Binh Duong could be added to the list in future weeks

A two nil win today. I'm still not sure if I'm seeing remarkable stuff or it's just a football culture shock. Anyway I have a lot of reflections on this game and my baptism into Thai footie which I will blog about, probably tomorrow.

Maybe you could include your thoughts on the state of your pitch today. The Baseball Ground circa 1973 springs to mind Wink

Haha! Yes, that whole thing was a bit strange and I'm not sure what Matty was thinking, but he remains a footballing god.

I'm paraphrasing but you get the idea. These are self-imposed regulations by the Muang Thong Ultras. I believe they only apply to those that sit in the ultra section.

Don't:
throw missles
smoke
drink
swear
enter the field of play
use any pyrotechnics
abuse opposition players
make racist remarks or remarks about a person's religious beliefs
use internet forums to attack other teams and players

Do
behave as civilised, courteous and compliant citizens
show respect to other fans
wear red shirts at matches
cheer our team
support and contribute positively to football in Thailand and the Football Association
offer gifts to opposition fans

I guess that's why drinking is banned - in case you forget them!  Grin
