Article from Danish FA about Denmark going to a training camp in Thailand from Mid January to play in a 4 nations tournament (King`s Cup). Denmark will play two matches. http://www.dbu.dk/news/newsShow.aspx?id=249371This is the Danish "B" team with players only from Danish league, but still a strong team to beat. Thailand got Asian Cup qualifiers on 14 and 28. January , I expect the tournament to start maybe around 20 th January ?

The only problem with them dates is that Thailand are playing away to Jordan on th 14th and then Iran at home on the 28th, so i can't see why they would want to play King's Cup between 15th and 25th. Previously mentioned to play between 6th and 12th, but then that wouldn't be the best preperation to play Jordan on 14th. They wouldn't arrive until a day before and then not be ready. King's Cup for January seems dead to me really.

I translated the page and the information worth noting from the Lebanese website is:
It also decided to approve the Union invitation to participate in the Thai King's Cup 2009 which will be held in Bangkok between January 21 and 23 next to the participation of Denmark, Thailand, North Korea and Lebanon.
So there we have it, Thailand, Denmark, North Korea and Lebanon

I think we might see the Thai youngsters getting a runout in this tournament.

Two matches each . Winner play winner , loser play loser from first match.

Phuket will host the 38th King's Cup next month, with Thailand, Lebanon, Denmark and North Korea set to fight for the trophy on the southern island.
The competition takes place January 21-23 and Thailand will open against Lebanon.
Phuket governor Dr Preecha Ruanchan said the island will be happy to be hold the competition.
"Phuket is ready to be the host," he said.
"We hosted AFF Suzuki Cup games three weeks ago so there won't be any problems with the stadium. "We want to use the King's Cup to help boost confidence in the tourism sector of the country.
"In the past, the country has faced many problems - especially political - and this has affected Phuket a lot.
"Hopefully this tournament will help the province attract tourists to Phuket."
Channel 7 will televise Thailand's matches and will also broadcast the final.
Schedule
January 21: Denmark v North Korea (4.30pm); Thailand v Lebanon (7pm).
January 23: 3rd place play-off (4.30pm); Final (7pm).

Huh , I don't like this schedule . Thailand just play 2 matches . 38th King's Cup seems to end quickly but it is also right because they will face Iran on January 28th .

BANGKOK, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Thailand’s King’s Cup match against Lebanon descended into chaos on Wednesday when the Middle East side twice walked off the pitch in protest at foul play that prompted two on-field brawls.
Team staff and stunned security guards twice had to enter the field to stop fights triggered by repeated scuffling between Lebanon’s Zakaria Charara and Thai defender Suree Sukha during the hosts’ 2-1 win in Phuket.
With 14 minutes remaining, in an apparent case of mistaken identity, Charara struck Surat Sukha in the head in retaliation for his twin brother Suree’s earlier foul.
After the ensuing brawl, Lebanon stormed off the field in protest and were told to remain on the sidelines by incensed coach Emile Rustom, who had to be talked into resuming the match by Thai soccer president Worawi Makudi.
Five minutes later, Suree escaped a booking by the Thai referee after another vicious tackle on Charara, who started another melee by slapping Suree and captain Datsakorn Thonglao in the face.
Lebanon again left the field in protest but returned five minutes later, only for the embattled referee to blow the final whistle prematurely to prevent further brawling.
Former European champions Denmark beat North Korea 1-0 in the other match and meet Thailand in Friday’s final. (Reporting by Martin Petty; Editing by Justin Palmer)

Shameful, embarrassing and bizarre. Thailand don't emerge with much credit but the 'bitch-slapping' Lebanese number nine should not be allowed on a football pitch again.

Disappointing to lose another final to a late goal, especially after batting back from one down Although it would have been nice to win the King's Cup I couldn't really work up much enthusiasm for the tournament. I'm much more excited about Wednesday. The match against Iran will be our toughest test under PR and a good indicator as to how much we've improved and how much more work we have to do. Can't wait!!

Is there any word on when and where the 40th King's Cup will be? I've seen past King's Cup tournaments in BKK and last year just by chance in Phuket, but can't seem to find any info on the next one.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Nothing has been announced just yet.
Normally played late in the year or early in the year (December or Jan). Won't happen this December with SEA Games and Jan has Asian Cup matches and the re-start of the TPL in January (moved forward).
King's Cup could well be played late 2010.

Thanks for the info.
"King's Cup could well be played late 2010."
As long as it's the last two weeks of Dec or the first three weeks of Jan 2011, fine with me..lol.
Also, sorry for posting a new thread and thanks for moving it here. I thought of posting it on this one, but wasn't sure if anyone would see it, or how this board worked.

Assuming Thailand qualify for Qatar 2011 to be played in January, December would be a good date for a reasonable build up.

Not sure where it is, i'm assuming the Phuket reference was to last year when Denmark played.
Expect confirmation, probably in early January.
I would expect either Phuket or Bangkok to be host, more likely to be Bangkok this time

BANGKOK, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Sweden, Poland and Denmark will play in next year’s King’s Cup tournament with hosts Thailand, a local newspaper reported on Wednesday. The four countries will contest the annual round-robin tournament in the northeastern Thai city of Nakhon Ratchasima from Jan. 17-23, the Bangkok Post quoted Thai soccer federation president, Worawi Makudi, as saying. http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=reu-thailandcup_brief&prov=reuters&type=lgns

A translation from any Swedish members would be greatly appreciated. I note that the Swedish season has just finished, so January would be their close season. Why wouldn't they want to escape the Scandanavian winter for a week or two!!

Why wouldn't they want to escape the Scandanavian winter for a week or two!! A google translation gave me the gist. Basically the Swedish FA have discussed it with the FAT but they haven't been formally invited (how unlike Worawi to announce something before it has been agreed! England friendly etc : ). The Swedes want to go on tour in January but they have other options which they are looking at.

From the following article "Sweden...will be replaced with North Korea" Also says that Poland aren't 100% confirmed yet and if they do come it will only be players from the Polish league. Denmark likely to send a second XI. http://www.thenews.pl/sport/artykul119284_polands-national-football-team-to-play-in-thailand-.htmlAlso says Korat is a popular tourist destination!

Someone emailed me telling me that North Korea has pulled out, can anyone confirm?
Also, i could do with some help. I've been contacted by a Polish football collector who wants to collect the Polish match tickets from the competition, if anyone can collect them and send to him, he will pay via paypal. Also any other tickets you may have (Thailand - Singapore comes to mind). Not sure how much he will pay, but you can make a little bit of money.
PM me if you can help and i will forward on his email address.

Apparently North Korea have pulled out according to this website www.polishsoca.com The site also has the fixtures of the three currently competing sides. It says FAT is trying to book another Asian team.
