Might as well start asking now, since I'm thinking about my trip this winter. Any news on the King's Cup end of 2010/beginning 2011? I've done some searches, but haven't come up with anything.

The last edition, In Korat, wasn't officially announced until just two and a half months before the tournament started. Phichit is supposed to be hosting the next one.

And don't Denmark (or a Denmark XI, at least) have to take part as holders? Phichit have expanded their stadium with a view to holding the King's Cup. They'll be disappointed if they don't get it. |

Committee in charge of national teams The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) will set up a committee to oversee the national teams at every level.
The move was approved by the FAT executive committee at a meeting yesterday, FAT president Worawi Makudi said. "The committee will oversee and support every national team," he said.
The executive committee also agreed that the King's Cup will be held from Dec 3-10, 2011 as part of the celebrations of His Majesty the King's 84th birthday.
Brazil's football president has initially promised to send his national team to take part in the King's Cup. Argentina or the Netherlands may also join the event, Worawi said.
Worawi said Bryan Robson will remain as national coach.
FAT's budget will be almost empty as inviting them .  |

Hassled FAT gets monetary boost 6/2/00 THE Football Association of Thailand is facing a huge expenditure of more than Bt80 million for staging the 31st King's Cup Soccer Tournament from Feb 20 and 27. Brazil's star national team with big names like Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos alone have requested US$1million (Bt38million) as appearance money. However, to the FAT's fortune, help has arrived through UEFA, a private company from Germany, who will replace Camsport in organising the event. Officials from the Football Association of Thailand revealed yesterday that the UEFA company will pay the FAT the licence and admission fees. However, the exact amount the FAT would obtain from the German company is not confirmed. Tickets for the Thailand-Brazil match are priced from Bt200 to Bt2,000. Besides the two teams, the four-team tournament includes Finland and Morocco. Over 50 per cent of sponsors, which includes LG electrical appliances and Nike have already signed their contracts. It is expected that the entire money from sponsors could be collected before the start of the tournament. Tickets priced at Bt100, Bt200 and Bt300 will be available for matches on Feb 20, Feb 25 and Feb 27. However, tickets for the big match between Brazil and Thailand on Feb 23 would be priced at Bt200, Bt500, Bt1,000 and Bt2,000. Meanwhile, the FAT received a shot in the arm with the Federation Internationale Football Association (Fifa) approving its request of Bt38-million budget for developing Thai soccer and building 72 stadiums over the Kingdom. Vijit Getkaew, the FAT president, yesterday informed that Fifa has launched its project of supporting its member countries with a yearly grant of US$1-million (around Bt38-million). Thailand, which is also a Fifa member country, had recently sent a letter of request to the sports world body. Fifa duly gave the nod for it. "The money will be allocated for use keeping in mind our initial objective, that is, we will spend the money mostly on developing Thai soccer and making 72 stadiums over the country which is also to celebrate HM the King's sixth cycle birthday anniversary," Vijit said. "However, we have to receive proposals from each province and send out officials to conduct the feasibility study on its project on building stadiums. We have to make every baht we receive from the Fifa worthwhile," he added. A press conference announcing Fifa's financial support to the FAT would be held on Feb 11 at the Radisson Hotel. Meanwhile, Brazil's national football team yesterday confirmed it would arrive in Bangkok on Feb 20 to participate in the King's Cup Soccer tournament and urged the FAT to make suitable arrangements for the team's stay and practice. Worawi Makudi, the FAT secretary-general, said that the Brazilian team has asked for a five star hotel accommodation. The team even demanded that the FAT book a complete floor for their team for safety reasons and also asked for round-the-clock security. The team will bring its own food expert who will decide the menu for the team. Change if it meant to bring good things should always be welcome but change for the sake of change because so and so did it or asked maybe it is not such a good thing. Looking back about 30+years, Thailand-King's Cup, Malaysia-Merdeka, Korea-Park Chung Hee, Indonesia-Pesta Sukan and India Nehru Cup were the main football events of the continent that earned uncondition support from public majority of which don't really know or understand futball. They did so because those men wearing their national uniforms. If anything at all for those who dare to promise to take Thailand football to the promised land, preseving King's Cup an event that win heart and soul of the population should have been a prerequisit. The attempt to draw fans attention without thinking of side effect by bringing team such as Brazil in part killed the mystique ane even now FAT peoplel don't seem to realize it. Noone want to see Brazil-7, Thailand-0 kind of game even Brazilian play don't want to see it either but they just can't help it.

There are two dates in November but none in December. |

There was something in last week's Football Siam that said the North Koreans were sending a full strength squad, and the FAT were awaiting replies from other invitees. However, at that stage the tournament was in January in Korat.

If it was up to me, Japan-Korea-Iran or Autralia and keep it as tradition. There elements surrounding that these countries will find it very difficult to not accept invitation providing we do it through the right channels. Opponents from other continents, create another one. There private organizers who will be more than happy to step in as local fans would flock in to buy tickets considering the popularity of the sport.

If it was up to me, Japan-Korea-Iran or Autralia and keep it as tradition .
 These teams are on a higher level but not so deep like Brazil , Argentina , Holland's ! What will Thailand “ learn “ when playing with such giants ?!  Moreover , Thailand will have to regularly face Asian strong teams in World Cup , Olympic and Asian Cup qualifers so King’s Cup is a good chance to know their play style .  |

I'm half expecting this to be very low key with it being played in Feb.
I'd probably guess at a coupl of ASEAN teams, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam come to mind and possibly a traveling circus like North Korea.
With AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers also around the corner, then we could expect the likes of Hong Kong, Bangladesh or India to pop along.
I'm not sure any Asian nation with anything about them would be interested in playing international football in Feb, most domestic leagues have stop started all year because of tournaments like Asian Cup, Gulf Cup, so no West Asian nation will be hoping across for this one. Not even Lebanon!
