The U19 squad flew out yesterday for this important competiton. Their first match is against Australia on Saturday night. Kick-off is 22:45 TST. I doubt a Thai channel is showing it as they apparently don't even show the senior side anymore! But I receive several Middle East channels so I'm hopeful that I'll be able to catch some of this tournament.
Chok dee Team Thai!

One disturbing turn of event regarding our U19 team is that it took them neary 23 hours to go from Bangkok to Riyadh.

Not a very smart way of preparing the team to face Australia.

Well, go Thailand!

When Peter Reid took over, FAT announced he would be in charge for this event as well. What another BULL story.

Anyway, i don't expect much from this tournement, but i hope we don't get turned over like Yemen did today against Japan (5-0).

I can accept a fighting defeat, but please don't cave in like Singapore and Indonesia did at the recent Under 16 event.

KHOBAR – A stunning strike from Anusorn Srichaloung helped Thailand stave off a late fight back from Jordan and record a 3-2 triumph to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.

Yodrak Namueangrak put Thailand, who lost their opening match 1-0 to Australia, ahead with a rare moment of quality in the first-half, turning the ball in after 28 minutes.

Anusorn hit a dipping volley across goal and into the top corner from the edge of the area after 63 minutes before Attapong Nooprom added a third two minutes later.

But Thailand's defensive frailties were exposed as Abdel Amer scored 10 minutes from time before Yaser Rawashdeh netted after 87 minutes as 10-man Jordan, who had Ali Hamza sent-off for two bookable offences, set up a tense finale.

However, Kawin Kachendecha's side held on to claim a valuable three points while Mohammad Fatma also saw red for Jordan following a fracas after the final whistle.

The result leaves Thailand one point behind their next opponents Uzbekistan, who are level on four points with Australia, while Jordan's hopes of qualifying were ended with their second straight loss.

It was an end-to-end opening 45 minutes but quality in the final third of the field was lacking.

Thailand had the better of the territory – supported by a strong wind at the Prince Saud bin Jalawi Stadium in Khobar – but the crucial final ball was poor.

Numerous half chances went begging before the South East Asians took the lead as Yodrak stole in behind the Jordan defence and swept the ball in.

Jordan were pushed back in their own half by the stiff breeze and were forced to play on the counter attack but they failed to trouble the Thailand defence.

Thailand and Yodrak almost grabbed a second after a flowing move early in the second half.

Yodrak's direct running continued to stretch Jordan and he surged into the penalty area before the ball fell for Kroekit Thawikan who saw his effort turned behind for a corner.

Anusorn brought down a lofted pass from Kroekit and unleashed an unstoppable left-foot volley over Feras before Thailand seemingly made certain of victory when Attapong slotted the ball into the bottom corner after finding a gap in the Jordan defence.

Substitute Ekkachai Ritthiphan hit the post as Thailand continued to exploit holes in the Jordan defence before the west Asians pulled one back when Amer slotted in after 80 minutes.

Rawashdeh then drilled in from the edge of the area three minutes from time but Jordan could not complete the comeback as Thailand triumphed.

It was a strange sort of match. In the first-half Jordan looked the more organised and technically better than the Thais so it was something of a surprise when Thailand took the lead. That said, for all of their technical proficiency, Jordan struggled to create any clear-cut chances. Thailand took advantage of this in the second-half with a stunning second goal (I implore you all to try and see this goal, it must be on the Internet somewhere) and a gifted third goal as a stray back pass was pounced upon by the Thai forward whose first-time finish seemed to surprise the keeper. And that should have been that. Indeed it should have been 4-0. A shot from from a Thai came back off the post and the ball wedged itself under the prone goalkeeper who didn't really know anything about it.
However, Jordan pulled one back on 80 and the predictable tense finale ensued, especially when they added a second. On the whole, a highly entertaining game and well worth staying up for.
Two negatives: there was a fracas after the game involving the players, I guess largely because the defeat meant that Jordan were eliminated from the competition. I don't like to see players who can't take defeat. And we had the familiar spectacle of Thai players pretending to be injured and calling for the stretcher. Injuries were feigned on four occasions and the stretcher was called for twice. This behaviour is a national embarrassment and must be stamped out. The fact that 17 and 18 year olds were doing it last night doesn't bode well. The FAT must get tough on this.

Thanks for the report, Vinnie. It sounds like an entertaining game.

As for your last point. I think that the current national team manager will not accept that kind of behaviour from the senior players. Let's hope that it filters down and into the leagues.

Thai-Japanese Stadium for AFC U19 Group E qualifiers

Quote

KUALA LUMPUR: The venue for some matches of the AFC U19 Championship 2010 (Qualifiers) Group E has been changed.

Previously, the matches were to be held at the Royal Thai Army Stadium and Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

However, because of a clash of dates with the AFC U16 Women’s Championship finals, the Rajamangala Stadium will now not be used. Instead, some of the matches will be played at the Thai-Japanese Stadium.

Group E comprises Korea Republic, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Macau and Bangladesh.

the kids now having it intheir own hand. A draw vs Korea will seal the qualification. If they loose, it could be become difficult.

Thailand edge Vietnam to top Group E

Quote

BANGKOK: Thailand went to the top of Group E in the AFC U-19 Championship 2010 qualifiers as Korea Republic recovered from Friday’s defeat to Vietnam.

Thailand scored an important 1-0 victory over Vietnam for their fourth straight victory to sit alone on 12 points .

The Koreans beat Laos 6-0 to lie in third place on nine points, the same as Vietnam but with an inferior head-to-head record.

In the other match, Bangladesh won for the first by beating Macau 3-2.

In a fractious match at Royal Thai Army Stadium, Thailand and Vietnam went at each other knowing that the stakes were high.

Chakrit Ravanprakon scored the winner in the 58th minute but the drama did not end there. Six minutes later, Thailand’s Adison Sappaso and Vietnam’s Nguyen Dinh Bao were sent off.

The Vietnamese also had Lam Anh Quang sent off in injury time.

Kim Won-sik scored twice for Korea Republic, who led 2-0 at half-time, through Lee Jae-gwan and Jang Hyun-soo’s penalty.

Ji Dong-won and Lim Jin-uk also scored one each.

Bangladesh recovered from 2-0 down to beat Macau, who earned their lead through a Mohammed Rasel own goal and Leong Ka-hang’s 31st-minute strike.

Mohd Javad reduced the deficit through a 43rd-minute penalty and Habibur Sohag levelled the score three minutes into the second half.

Alam then atoned for his earlier mistake by scoring the winner nine minutes before the final whistle.

The top two teams from each of the seven groups, along with the best third-placed team from East and West, qualify for next year’s finals.

Countries who have qualified so far

Group A
Jordan
Yemen

Group B
United Arab Emirates

Group G
China
DPR Korea

Thailand lost to Korea 2:1, but they finshed second and are qualified for next years tournament. Vietnam is sitting in the 3rd place, with exactly the same goals for and vs. So I guess, that here the head to head brought the Thais in 2nd place.

Koreans and Thais advance to U19s finals

Quote
BANGKOK: Korea Republic beat Thailand 2-1 on Wednesday as both teams qualified from Group E for the AFC U-19 Championship 2010 finals.

Vietnam put themselves in a strong position to claim the best third-placed berth in the finals from East Asia by beating Macau 3-0.

Korea Republic, Thailand and Vietnam all finished on 12 points with the Koreans topping the group on goal difference.

Thailand and Vietnam had exactly the same goals for and against of 9-2. However, the Thais claimed second place because of their 1-0 victory the Vietnamese on Sunday.

In the other match, Bangladesh drew 3-3 with Laos to finish fourth. Laos are bottom with one point, two behind fifth-placed Macau.

Korea Republic’s victory at the Royal Thai Army Stadium came courtesy of an 88th-minute Seo Hong-min goal. Earlier, the Thais went into half-time with a 1-0 lead after Chakrit Ravanprakon scored in the 21st minute.

Kim Kyung-jung equalised on the hour before Seo’s heroics in the dying minutes.

Vietnam had few problems against Macau. Nguyen Van Quyet scored their first in the fourth minute and Trinh Hoa Hung made it two minutes before the break.

Nguyen Tan Tai completed the scoring in the 80th minute .

I think both Thailand and Vietnam received reasonable draws.

The toughest assignment went to Yemen who hve to wonder, 'what have we ever done to deserve all this'.
They will have to play Korea Republic, Australia and Iran.

A1. China
A2. Thailand
A3. Syria
A4. Saudi Arabia

Group C
C1. UAE
C2. Vietnam
C3. Jordan

yemen are not a bad nation at youth level, but thats normally because they have a few ringers playing!

But as ever at youth events its hard to predict who is good or  bad, for every nation it is about filtering the players through to the full national setup

I think this edition also has the top 4 qualifying for the fifa world cup

Generally, that's true, too.

However, South Korean had won this tournament 11 times.
China won it once in 1985 and finished as runner-up three more time in 1982, 1996 and 2004.
Japan has never touch the trophy but they are 6 time runner-up

These three are nontheless have shown they are there year in and year out.
South Korea has proven they belong to youth football elite having represent
the continent both at U17 & U20 World Cups last year.

Japan are set out to overcome past painful experiences. This can only ad to quality of youth football comes october.

I am not sure. I think they aware of him, but there may other reasons, which are beyond us. On the other hand, Thailand is lacking of an proper oversea scouting system.

A story that I've got told a few days ago. A guy from Laos was playing down the pyramid in Germany. He was scouted by FA, got an invitation to the SEA Games. Is now playing in Laos, and is now on the jump to Thailand.

I don't think for one minute Loko that these guys are being scouted. I think they are more than likely contacting the FA's themselves and paying their own airfares with a chance to join up with the federations. But for every guy that makes it, theres always someone with a sad story.

I can't see the need for a overseas scouting system when half these SEA nations can't even scout their homelands to begin with. I think it's much easier that these lads playing and living the majorty of their lifes abroad approach the relevant FA's if they really think they can make it.

Regarding the second part of your comment, I have to agree partialy. Yes, sure, if they are not able to build up a scouting system in front of their own house, it makes no sense to do it ovderseas. But at least, you should start, somewhen, somewhere.

On the other hand, if you don't, you may end up like Poland (Klose, Podolski) or Turkey (Oezil). Sure they do have their scouts, but I mean, that maybe Thailand is loosing a lot of talents, if they decide to play for the other country, while note beeing noticed by the Thai FA.

Germany, sorry for that, actually proofed that you have to be there right on time. And not just when everything is too late.

MORE THAN JUST A PREPARATORY MEET

HO CHI MINH CITY (23 July 2010) – The AFF Under-19 Championship this year is just a four-team meet but one thing for certain it will be more than just a preparatory tournament towards China.

Hosts Vietnam, Thailand, Australia and South Korea will battle it out at the Thong Nhat Stadium with an eye on the crown while the other firmly on the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Under-19 Championship in China in October.

Vietnam chief coach Trieu Quang Ha said that the tournament ’is very good against three strong opponents.’

“We will try our very best to do well in this tournament as part of our preparation for the meet in China.”

Taryn Rockall, the team manager for Australia, admitted as much.

“This tournament is a good stepping stone towards the meet in China where we can use it to better prepare our team,” said Rockall.

Added South Korea’s assistant coach Seo Hyo-won: “it is an honour to play against these good teams.

“We did not have a good period of time to prepare for this meet but with the players that we have, we hope that we can win the competition.”

Thailand ‘s chief coach Chalermvud Sangnapol in the meantime feels that it will be a lot harder for them to defend the title they won last year.

Thailand beat Australia in the final of the championship in 2009 to lift the crown.

“We have some problems getting the players that we want,” added Chalermvud.

“But the championship is good for the development of our team and this will allow us the chance to look at some of the other lads in preparation for China.”

The first game of the championship at the Thong Nhat Stadium tomorrow will see Australia taking on South Korea (1600hrs local time) with hosts Vietnam playing Thailand (1830hrs) in the second game of the day.

FIXTURES and RESULTS

Loko, I never knew his age before, but he is 16 right???

Tell him not to get worried about not being called up to the AFC Youth Championship team yet because Thailand never qualified for his age group. He has another 2 years to wait!! His age group play in AFF championship in Indonesia in September, but lets face it, they won't call hi,m up because it costs to much to get in a team at that age level.

Tell him, not to worry that he's heard nothing from FAT yet. But he must keep in there face all the time. Constantly ask and tell them he is ready. Because they have no schedule now. The schedule ends next week and then go sleep until next AFC event, So don't lose hope, play well in Germany and keep in their FAT face.

@ Dru, don't worry. He got his answer already more or less. However, the interview gained some certain interest in Joe already. Smiley If this young lad keeps on track, I am pretty sure that we will hear his name in the Future. As far as I got to know him, he obviously is not on of those young talented kids, loosing the track in that age.

Thailand 0-1 Syria
Quote

Zibo: Radwan Kalaji's second-half goal saw 10-man Syria edge out Thailand 1-0 at Zibo Sports Centre in Group A of the AFC U-19 Championship.

Kalaji's free-kick gave the battling Middle East side all three points after skipper Mohamad Al Ghabbash was sent-off in the first-half following a clash with Thai keeper Suchin Yen-Arom.

It was Thailand who had enjoyed the better of the opening 45 minutes with Sarach Yooyen proving particularly threatening.

The midfielder forced keeper Ibrahim Almeh to tip over after 16 minutes following a scramble in the box and a minute later, came even closer when a fine 30-yard free-kick smacked the outside of the post and went behind.

Syria were then reduced to 10 men when Al Ghabbash was dismissed following a clash with Suchin. Waiting for a Syrian corner, the midfielder was stood in front of the Thai keeper, who subsequently hit the turf and an early end to proceedings ensued for Al Ghabbash.

Sarach drove another set-piece over the bar just after the half-hour mark and Mahmoud Al Maowas fired wide from distance four minutes before the break after the Syrian midfielder had worked an opening for himself as the first-half ended goalless.

Mohamad Bash Bauk called Suchin into action early in the second period and Adisak Kraisorn could not direct a header from Ponlachi Hongthong's cross from the right goalwards in what proved to be Thailand's best chance of the half.

Bauk then struck a free-kick from a promising position narrowly off target as Syria looked to grab a goal on the break.

The breakthrough came in the 69th minute and it was from another set-piece.

Kalajai's free-kick on the left edge of the box was poorly struck but the Thailand wall broke while jumping and the ball crept in at the near post with a scrambling Suchin unable to prevent it crossing the line.

Thailand continued to press for an equaliser with Syria content to hit the South-East Asians on the break.

Taha Jneid's shot from distance was easily gathered by Suchin while fellow substitute Nasouh Nakkdahli worked a good position in the box but elected to shoot from near the byline when a pass was the better option.

Al Maowas was then booked for diving in stoppage time when it seemed he had legitimate claims for a penalty but it mattered little as Syria held on to begin their AFC U-19 Championship with a gritty win.

Thailand's other Group A games are v Saudi Arabia (Tuesday 5th), and hosts China (Thursday 7th). If they get out of the group, the quarterfinals are on the 11th, and Thailand will play a team from Group B (Uzbekistan, Iraq, Bahrain, and North Korea)

Really? I'm part-way through reading an article that assures me that Thailand will make the semis and qualify for the World Cup Smiley

Incidentally, other results so far:

Group B: Uzbekistan 1-0 DPR Korea, Bahrain 2-1 Iraq
Group C: Japan 2-1 UAE, Vietnam 2-1 Jordan

Football talents won't just fall from trees, for all I knew.
What do people who spent time develop the players
will have to say about potential of losing the products?

There is a classic example of looking for water on the other side of the hill, also.
Remember Thailand NT game in Tehran?
That was a key match for Thailand and Peter Laeng was not able to participate
due to his professional obligation. That was not just a friedly outing but A team
in it's critical state.

Teeth whittening solution is good but gum decease needs more serious attention.

Saudi Arabia 1-0 Thailand
Quote
Zibo: Yahya Dagriri's late goal kept Saudi Arabia's hopes of a place in the quarter-finals of the AFC U-19 Championship alive with a battling 1-0 victory over Thailand.

Having lost their opening Group A game against China 3-1, three points were vital for Khalid Al Koroni's side and Dagriri's 82nd minute strike decided a game that was short on genuine chances.

The result also confirms China's place in the last eight while the winner of Saudi Arabia's final game with Syria will progress to the knockout stage alongside the hosts.

Thailand were first to threaten as Surachet Ngamtip saw a shot acrobatically tipped over the bar by keeper Abdullah Al Sdairy.

Mohammed Majrashi then fired wide at the other end before Adisak Kraisorn spun in the box but his effort was way off target.

A scrappy first-half saw opportunities few and far between but some neat play from Adisak resulted in the forward feeding Chakrit Ravanprakon, who displayed quick feet before his deflected shot was again pushed over by Al Sdairy on the half-hour mark.

Some good interplay just before the break saw Chakrit presented with a clear sight of goal on the edge of the box but the striker fired wastefully over.

Yasir Al Fahmi sent a left-foot shot over the bar eight minutes into the second period before substitute Ibrahim Al Ibrahim came closest to breaking the deadlock for the Saudis, curling a 25-yard free-kick towards the top left corner that a flying Ukrit Wongmeema tipped around the post.

Thailand had a great chance to open the scoring in the 74th minute when the ball broke to Sokjoho Pattana down the left. The forward bore down on goal but his toe poke was blocked at the near post by Al Sdairy.

Majrashi then directed a powerful header wide of the near post after he connected with Al Fahmi's cross following some slick skills down the left flank by the winger with 10 minutes to go before Saudi Arabia took the lead two minutes later.

Yasir Al Shahrani's cross-cum-shot across the six-yard box was blocked but the ball fell to Dagriri and he found the back of the net from close range.

Sarach Yooyen then lashed a good chance wide from the edge of the box in stoppage-time as Thailand's exit was confirmed.

Hi There, Loko.....
After a long football season + futsal season and watching strange WC,
I decided to stay in the woods by the mountain in Norhtern California
to listen to the sounds of birds singing and water rushing down the creek.
Just rolled down the hills to civilization for another to kids football season a couple of weeks go.

By the way, did you notice the Niners' first win of the season?

Hold on a minute, so the FAT president is going to Germany to discuss the future with a 17 year old lad. Has he discussed the futures with our current under 16 or 19 crop?

Is it really Wowrai's job to do this? Wea re talking about a 17 year old, who really needs to make the first move to come to Thailand himself and put himself in the frame. It's not FAT's job to go looking for 17 year old's, there focus should be about the full national team. If Joe wants to play for Thailand he will, Thailand don't need to go running in his direction. Finding the 'farang' Thai is going a bit to far isn't it when there is talent being ignored in Thailand itself.

Surely it's the job of someone in the youth/coaching system. NZ had this situation last year when we were on the verge of qualifying and after we qualified for South Africa. However, it was our national coach that was contacting players that might be eligible. We were also able to take advantage of a rule change which meant a couple of players suddenly became eligible, including one player who had expressed a desire to play for us in the past.

Some fans were sceptical, pointing to the fact that a few of the players had represented other countries at youth levels, or barely lived in NZ, but the counter-argument was that while they might be jumping aboard for a World Cup, they were not going to be able to switch allegiances later.

I think if Thailand is going to try to strengthen the NT by casting its net wider, then they should really be looking at players who are ready to step straight in, like Peter Lang. Contact these guys and find out how interested they are in representing Thailand, and take it from there. For younger guys like Joe, perhaps a phone call to let them know Thailand is aware of them and watching should be enough at this stage. A proper meeting with the President of the FAT sends the wrong message on many levels, especially with Joe not even playing senior football yet.
If I was a talented teenager who felt I could play international football for a country other than than the one I was based in, surely it would be up to me to inform that country's FA that I was eligible and available/interested?
