LATE WINNER FROM SHAFIQ GIVES SINGAPORE VICTORY OVER THAILAND

Quote
SINGAPORE (11 Oct 2011) – A late winner from Shafiq Ghani gave Singapore a close 3-2 win over Thailand in a friendly that was played at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium.

Both teams are using the game as part of their preparation for the SEA Games which will be held in Indonesia on 11-22 November 2011.

After falling behind with an early goal just 25seconds in when Singapore’s Hafiz Sujad capitalised on a defensive error, Thailand fought back with the equaliser in the 35th minute off a rebounder from Isarapong Lilakorn.

But the young Singapore side trudged on and six minutes later, they were in front for the second time in the game when Fazil Ayob made good on a cross on 41st minute as Thai captain Ronnachai Rangsiyo then found parity with the second equaliser on 70 minute.

Just when things seem to be heading for a stalemate, in came Shafiq with a scorcher at the tail end of the game.
