I went with some friends. You certainly didn't need to worry about tickets in advance. There were only about 3,000 people there.

Typical. How many were in Korat the last time Thailand played a friendly here?

Another reason why the attendance was so low was that the ticket prices were double what they usually are for a Thai Premier League game. Granted 200Baht isn't a lot of money for most of us but it is a lot for a Thai on a basic salary. I'm sure if they halved the price they would have tripled the attendance.

I think there may be issues regarding the distance from the stadium to an international airport that dictates where these matches are played, Vinnie. For competitions such as the King's Cup, it's not a problem as the teams will be based in the city for a week or so. It's a shame because I've always been in favour of the national team playing all over the country.

There may also have been a political reason for choosing the Thunderdome/Yamaha for this fixture. Don't get me wrong, I think a packed Thunderdome/Yamaha would be an ideal venue for staging a qualifying game for a major competition, certainly better than a half full/half empty Rajamangala, but on this occasion it backfired.

Ticket prices, ridiculous kick off time, Singapore again(!!) and the wrong venue all add up to a poor crowd. There's possibly a good reason why they didn't play the game today but, as it's a holiday, it would have made more sense. I seem to remember the round of TPL matches played on August 12th last year were very well attended.

4.9 Thailand - India
8.9 India - Thailand
16.9 Thailand- Syria

Where do they play home matches and are all "A" matches with senior NT , no Asian Games team ?

Tickets were advertised as being 100-200 baht. The people of Nonthaburi seem to have 700 baht for a Muang Thong replica shirt but not 100 baht to watch their national team.

To be honest, the ticket prices and the kick-off time weren't unusual for a Thailand match, and three times the amount of people turned up at the same venue for Muang Thong v FC Nobody in the AFC Cup. All matches in Korat kicked off at 18:00. If an international airport is required then play games in Chiang Mai. More than 3,000 would turn up if the match kicked off at six in the morning.

It will be interesting to see how many Indian fans will attend. I don't expect many to fly in from India, but as there is quite a large Indian community in Thailand, it would be nice if a few of them could come along and support them.

The majority of the crowd appeared to be Muang Thong fans as you'd expect. The songs being sung by the Thai crowd were the usual Muang Thong songs replaced with "Thailand" instead of "Muang Thong."

Also I'd estimate that there were about 100 "westerners" at the game. Not a bad turnout considering time and location.

I read a report on goal.com (so probably not true!) that both Argentina and Brazil were considering games against Thailand or Indonesia around 12 October. The fee is believed to be something in the region of $2 million.

The last time Brazil played here, it was something like 7-0 and very much like an exhibition game. You'll see a more competitive edge in the local Thai leagues.

Argentina newspaper confirm that Argentina consier a second friendly in October against Thailand , China , Indonesia or Singapore.

http://www.canchallena.com/1297414-confirmado-la-argentina-jugara-con-brasil-en-el-cierre-del-ano

I think also it is very likely that Brazil will play two friendlies in Asia.

I guess they play any team who pay the right prize...

Robson has named the squad for the 2 Indian friendlies. 31 players for the home match, but only 20 (yet to be decided) will go to Delhi. From his comments below, it looks as though MTU and Port players might be left behind.

Bryan Robson has announced a large squad for the up coming series against India. The games will be played on September 4th at 6pm at Yamaha Stadium and September 8th in Delhi Robson added, "I have chosen a large squad as i want to integrate some of the potential U23 Asian games players in to senior football and the best way for their development is to do this in an environment with senior players. I will only be taking 20 players to India and have taken into account the AFC Cup games that Thai clubs are still playing in. Both clubs have done really well to get to this stage.

I also want to see if some of these younger players can handle traveling and playing in a unique foreign environment We are aiming of course to win both games to continue our rise in the FIFA rankings and after the great reception we received from our fans in the Singapore victory I am hoping for a full stadium on September 4th. Once again the National team sponsors have been tremendous in their support of our national program. I hope to see you at the Yamaha Stadium and we can continue to both win and play entertaining football for the dedicated fans".

No doubt a mid-range ticket for the Chelsea match will cost as much as a season-ticket for most TPL clubs.

After going to the farce that was Thailand v Liverpool last time, I won't be bothering again. Thirty quid for a training match?Huh?

The match against Arsenal back in 1999 was the best of this type of fixture that I've been to. A very entertaining 4-3 win for Thailand.

I go along to these "events" not for the football, or to see the big names, but because it's usually a good opportunity to meet up with old friends who are now scattered all over SE Asia. Quite often I can remember very little about the actual game. Wink

Credit to anyone who has turned up there today. Not surprisingly it looks like a smaller crowd than for the Singapore game.

Makes you wonder why they bothered. Hardly worth cancelling a weekend of league fixtures for.

I'd guess there were more people at Bangkok Glass v Nonthaburi in the Toyota Mickey Mouse Cup midweek than there is watching Thailand v India tonight.

Against poor opposition Sarayoot Chaikamdee shone again scoring the only goal with a fine effort from the edge of the box after turning with his back to goal. He also hit the post with another effort, had a great header tipped over and was called offside for another header that ended up in the net.

Final score: Thailand 1 India 0

It was a well taken goal but the match wasn't anything to get excited about. Although it was a good opportunity to see how some of the fringe players would cope at this level.

India Go Down Fighting Against Thailand In Bangkok
Quote
The Indian national team went down fighting 1-0 against Thailand at the Yamaha Stadium in Bangkok on Saturday evening.

Thailand had the better chances throughout the game but India was never out of the contest and even hit the crossbar before the halftime break.

However Thailand's star striker Sarayoot Chikamdee scored the winner for the home side in the second half.

The Indian lineup had 10 players that started the Nehru Cup final in August 2009 with the in-form Mohammed Rafi being the only exception as he started in place of skipper Bhaichung Bhutia, who didn’t even make the match squad due to lack of match fitness.

Climax Lawrence was named captain and coach Bob Houghton opted for the familiar 4-4-2 formation with Mahesh Gawli being preferred at left back instead of N.S. Manju while Anthony Pereira started on the left wing and Steven Dias on the right.

Thailand coach Bryan Robson also named a strong side with prolific striker Sarayoot Chikamdee starting upfront and the experienced Datsakorn Thonglao operating in midfield. However surprisingly talented custodian Kawin Thamsatchanan was named in the bench as Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakoo started in goal.

The Thais have a very good record at home under Bryan Robson so it was no surprise to see them start on the front foot.

They nearly took the lead in the 4th minute when forward Teerasil Dangda found himself free in the Indian box but his effort unfortunately rattled the woodwork.

The home side dominated the early stages and won a number of corners which meant the Indian backline was under constant pressure.

Chikamdee produced a fine save off Subrata Paul in the 20th minute but two minutes later wingback Surkumar Singh had India’s first shot on target as his long range effort was well held by the Thai keeper.

As the half progressed India improved their performance and also had a few attacks of their own.

Rafi, who was making his international debut in this game, was starting to link up well with Sunil Chhetri but India still were not able to create a clear cut opportunity.

Thailand always looked dangerous when they went forward but they were lucky not to concede just before the interval as Sunil Chhetri hit the crossbar.

The halftime probably came at the wrong time for the 2011 Asian Cup participants as they were playing much better in the closing stages of the first period.

There were no changes for either side at the interval as both sides looked to improve on their first half showing.

In terms of possession the second half was a very even contest but Thailand always looked more likely to open the scoring.

They had a wonderful opportunity just after the hour mark when Phichitphong Choeichiu made a great run into the box but he was denied by a last ditch tackle from Anwar.

Despite seeing the ball more in the second period, India could come up only with half chances and that made Houghton make a substitution as Clifford Miranda replaced Steven Dias, which meant Anthony moved to his preferred right wing position and Miranda was operating on the left flank.

Thailand may not have created too many clear cut chances but they were showing more intent going forward and thus the players were getting frustrated with the score still reading 0-0.

But Chaikamdee finally managed to break the deadlock when his well taken shot found it’s way past Subrata Paul and went into the back of the net.

The 'War Elephants' deserved that goal and also made a change as Pipat Thonkanya came on for Teerasil Dangda.

Bob Houghton also made a double substitution with Renedy and Mehraj replacing Climax and Pradeep respectively to form a new partnership in central midfield.

But those two changes didn’t really make much of a difference as India struggled to create openings with Rafi and Sunil not getting proper service.

Thailand thought they scored the second in the 89th minute but it was ruled out due to offside.

There was no drama in the two minutes of stoppage time as Thailand held on to their second consecutive 1-0 win at home.

India will have the chance to take revenge on Wednesday when the sides meet at Delhi’s Ambedkar Stadium.

It was a lovely turn and shot for Sarayoot's goal. In saying that, the Indian marking was abysmal. He was in the penalty box and there was nobody even close to him.

Was there really any interest?? For every Kawin, there's a 20 year old European lad with just as much potiental. Much easier to bring in and adapt.

If any Thai player with potiental lands in England, then they would have to be farmed out to Belguim for 3 years.

No idea what time. But expect the AIFF to tell us probably on matchday. And these nations wonder why no one turns up!

You'll all be happy to know that Thailand have been training at a college today: Janki Devi Memorial College, Near Ganga Ram Hospital. Expect players to come back with knocks or sprains after playing near potholes.

Ok KO is scheduled for 19:00 but I have no clue whether it means local or thai time. And still no information which players have been cut by Robson though. But it looks like to be a whole Asian Games squad + 3 players above 23 years of age.

Looks like Kawin might not be getting his January move to Manchester United after all ...

Was there really any interest?? For every Kawin, there's a 20 year old European lad with just as much potiental. Much easier to bring in and adapt.

If any Thai player with potiental lands in England, then they would have to be farmed out to Belguim for 3 years.

Let me say  - not for the first time - I suggest we hold all conversations on Kawin until the end of January.

So he's not going to Man Utd, but to Belgium. 3 years time he will be back home a broken man.

So if that doesn't happen and we are still here in 3 years, will you admit you were totally wrong?
Crikey, give the guy a chance instead predicting doom and gloom before you even know what is happening.

If he doesn't go to Belgium in Jan then I guess he's not going to Europe.

But fancy being 'parked' in Belgium until you can get over that 75% rule.

Remember, he's always being linked with Man Utd, but how many goalkeepers has Fergie gone through that we all thought were brilliant?

I do expect that he will have a fun time travelling from club to club in Europe, more as a tourist and never actually fulfilling his potiental. He would be much better off testing himself as a keeper and a man in Japan first. That's my opinion for all it counts.

Bryan Robson said something a couple of weeks ago about Kawin training or trialling with Man Utd, but said that due to his commitments with MTU, and then the National team, it was likely to be in the 2011/12 European pre-season.

I like what I've seen of Kawin, but like druryfire, agree Robson has his own reasons for linking him with a move to Manchester, rather than simply, 'a European club'. At his age, I also agree he'd benefit from proving himself at a higher level than TPL, whether it be in Asia, or a less high-profile club/league in Europe.  Wherever he goes, I hope it's somewhere he'll get plenty of game time, in order to attract the interest of bigger clubs.
