Personally, I can't stand all the orchestrated and choreographed support. I much prefer things to happen naturally. Fans - even if they are all in different groups - will still react to what is happening on the pitch and create an atmosphere. The support at Chonburi has certainly evolved on its own. And I wouldn't want it any other way.  |

Bundled support doesnt mean orchestrated or fake. As you said its an evolution... people will look to bundle their support to become noisy and powerfull like MTU and on the same hand they will also become more independed fans like chonburi or thai port. Iam quite sure chonburi will go this way... your young guys obviously also would like to get the whole away stand involved then just sing amongst themselves and sooner or later supporters will discuss ways to make it happen and they will find ways to do it. I dont take PEA and MTU as the prime example here... I hope for both they will become more real and I hope for some real grassroots to come up... I think BG are good candidate... they get alot of people involved every game and they dont need the club to sponsor them... Maybe I will support them next season for that reason actually |

Anyone who thinks MTU fans are not 'real' obviously did not go to the AFC quarter final match. Dale, what is more important to your old guard? Getting behind the team in whatever way they see fit or basically making a statement: "Look at me! I was here before they were!"? Because sometimes I do wonder. |

Just a quick one on this years AFC Cup, South China have added Nicky Butt and Kezman (ex-Chelsea) to there squad. Should be worth checking out when they are in town for any neutral.

Are you really going to have that nowadays? Because I think it is like jumping on the bandwagon. You own an i-phone, I want to own one too. The Italian Ultras looking cool, we like to do same thing. Germans always envy the atmospere of an english ground in the past. And I think the old school boys (like me) still do. But we never were able to create such an atmo in German stadiums. And we shouldn't. We should and did our own thing, with a mixture of several leagues. Thais hopefully will do the same. Every country is having his unique atmo, singing and chanting. If you ask for grassroots in Thailand, I think they are still there. But thats an oppinion 1000 miles away and from what I recognized. Sriracha FC may be one of those club, including his Green Tea Gang supps. |

But then we have to be careful about how we define "real fans" because for me it's all about caring, passion and knowledge and you couldn't take any of those away from the fans inside the stadium that night. I've seen a few games in my time and not many atmospheres have bettered that. Sorry Dale for pulling off-topic. |

Hear Hear Greg.... This isn't an attack on you specifically Dale, but I don't understand the concept. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I agree with Greg that it certainly comes across as like a 'been there, done that.... we're better than you' type of pretentious attitude from the 'old guard'. I fully understand that as individuals people may want to have a drink and watch the game. Not a problem with that at all, but as an individual, even if you are not part of the atmosphere, surely you want the majority of your fans making one, 'old guard or not'. Half the reason people attend football matches is because of the atmosphere other wise you might as well just watch it on the TV. For a mass group to not participate in the atmosphere is a concious decision, and that's also not what I'd call 'reacting to the game'. Going to a football match is like going to a concert. You don't have to be in the mosh pit to enjoy it, but you're not going to enjoy it if there isn't an atmosphere and everyone is just sitting around chatting and not singing. You might as well stay at home and listen to the CD. |

What I ment to say by grassroots maybe for a lack of a better term was that I want to see fans to bundle THEMSELVES and do what they like. Wether they want to orient themselves on italy, englad or japan doesnt matter. With the internet people WILL see pcitures from stands in greece and italy and will try to do the same mixed with their own local touch. Thats what I mean by grassroots. Basiclly I look for fans to become more organized to make for more powerfull support and better atmosphere. But I dont want to see it the Buriram way where the club executive sets the policy... hence I used the word grassroots @ greg, I didnt mean fans in the south stand arent real and N zone fans are. I mean the organisation of the fanclub which bundles support for the team. Like I said above I prefer autonom fanclubs rather then ones who follow club policy and just do what the execs want them to do. In fact as I know it from europe fanclubs are always a counterbalance to the clubs greed to market the game to death. I want fanclubs who represent the fans not fanclubs who tell fans to what to do according to club policy... hope its a little bit more clear now |

Funnily enough, there was hardly any difference in the way the game was played between the cup final and this match. Both matches would have seemed identical to the casual channel surfer. Chonburi will visit the city's IPE Stadium on Sunday to take on the Navy, as the away side. It was only last season that the same ground was home to the Sharks. And it was a case of "Home Sweet Home", as we went the entire league campaign without losing a game. In fact our only two defeats at the venue came at the very beginning and the very end of the campaign - a 0-1 reverse against Police Utd in the Queen's Cup in February and a 0-2 loss to Bangkok Glass in the League Cup in October. However, we have also been the away side at the Sports College in TPL fixtures on two other occasions. In June 2006 we drew 0-0 with Port Authority (Thai Port) and in October the following season, we beat PEA 4-0 on our way the the league title.
