AFC President to open Vision Chonburi League Chonburi: The much-anticipated Vision Chonburi League (VCL) will be officially launched by AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam on Saturday.
The AFC President is scheduled to arrive at the Chonburi Football Association (CFA) office at 1130, when he will sign a commemorative plaque and have a tour of the CFA headquarters.
After a group photo session at noon, the CFA will give a presentation on the history of football in the south-eastern province of Thailand and their activities since embracing Vision Asia and the challenges that lie ahead.
The presentation will be followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the AFC President, Football Association of Thailand (FAT) President Dato' Worawi Makudi and CFA President Vitaya Khunplome, after which a press conference will be held at the Central Plaza in Chonburi.
Bin Hammam and the delegation will then head to the Sansuk Stadium for the official opening ceremony of the Vision Chonburi League, with the historic first match scheduled to kick-off at 1600 in the presence of officials from the AFC, FAT, CFA, clubs and the media
The pioneering clubs for VCL are Muangchon United, Chon Chai Wanderers FC, Sattahip Borough FC, Siracha Athletics FC, Banglamung Rovers FC, Assum Novads FC, Banbueng FC and Ko Chan County FC.
I've added a link to the VCL rules and regulations and started a photo gallery for the competition. You can find them both here http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/chonburifc/club_news.pl?news=459404

I like it. A good size for Chonburi: they should nearly fill it for most games and thus have a decent atmosphere every week. I like the fences in the corners which fully enclose the ground and the iconic sala. I guess it's going to be first used for the National Games starting on the ninth?

I like it. Although I wish it had stands going all the way round. From what I've been told, it seems like the uncovered stand on the far side will get a second tier at a later date, should the need arise. Hopefully, the sala will become as iconic as Fulham's cottage or Everton's church. I agree about the size being right and we should be able to whip up a decent atmosphere under the lights - especially for AFC Cup matches.

I think my favourite ground icon would be the tree in the outfield at Canterbury cricket ground - not sure if it's still there. Sadly, the church at Goodison is almost completely obscured nowadays.

Dunstall Cricket Club's ground also used to have a tree in the outfield. I played there a few times back in 70's and 80's. In fact, I played in a "Test Match" there in about 1979. During the school holidays a group of us played a game that lasted five days. I can't remember the result but I'm pretty sure we had more than two innings each.

Chonburi ready for stronger run Kuala Lumpur: Thailand’s Chonburi FC are hoping to improve upon their quarter-final appearance in the 2009 edition of AFC Cup at the next edition in 2011.
Chonburi, who lost to Vietnam’s Binh Duong 4-2 on aggregate in 2009, will have to battle it out for one of the top two spots in Group H with Hong Kong’s South China, Kingfisher East Bengal (India) and Persipura Jayapura (Indonesia).
Chonburi FC Team Manager Thanasak Suraprasert said: “We are in a tough group but our target is to get better result than our last eight appearance in 2009. I hope we can reach the final this time.”
He singled out South China as their biggest group rival saying, “South China are a very strong side and they will test our strength in the group phase.
“I think reaching the Round of 16 should not be a big problem for us.”

And the ever informative www.clubwebsite.co.uk/chonburifc ran the story, in much more detail, a good few hours before TLO got anywhere near it

Thanks SRS, one thing about people who speak out of their heart with Heng being one of those people, you may not make the best political candidate out of them but one thing they always have is loyalty with their own thoughts and ideas even knowingly it could hurt them at the end. Things would have been much different had he possessed elusive communication and what business world called it 'people skill' but he is who he is and I can only feel for him. It will be hard to ask him to just forget about everything else and to just focus on coaching when we knew that he knew he could make the difference. Now that both of him and N.Pibulvech are in Chonburi for specific and rather limited use, I suppose you have to go with the flow when you not strong enough to against the wind or the current whatever the Devil is called.

He seems very happy these days. And he's obviously doing what he really wants to be doing, where he wants to be doing it. You're right about him not being a politician. That "battle" with Vijitr a few years ago is best forgotten. If he gets the backing of our management - and he was in deep conversation with one of them for well over an hour at the friendly match last Monday - he should do well for us. I hope so.

The middle one is a Japanese player, name unknown. The one at the bottom is a Finnish striker. He played for the second forty five minutes on Friday. I doubt we'll see him again.

If you're referring to the Finnish lad, it is highly unlikely that we will be signing him. However, Chonburi don't have any such racist transfer policy. If a player is considered good enough, we will sign him regardless of race, creed, religion or colour.

The way I read the post, it seemed as if Chonburi's policy was not to sign non Thais purely because they aren't Thai. This is most definitely not the case and I just wanted to point this out.
In recent years Chonburi/Assumption, SriRacha have probably done more than any other club to bring on local talent but we certainly don't have a "Thai only" approach when it comes to signing players - as the original post implies - this season or any other season.
Apologies for any confusion my initial reply may have caused.

The Finnish guy is on trial, but when I was trying to get a trial for the Norwegian Premier League striker I was told on November 6th by the contact: "Chonburi want not a "Farrang" Coach and not Farrang players for the next season (Manager Annop yesterday in the Siam Keerlar newspaper)."

Don't believe everything you read in the papers. Or everything you're told when hawking players to clubs. The management are certainly keen to continue to produce local players, and have gone on record elsewhere as saying that they will be looking at the quality of their overseas signings. However, they haven't ruled out signing anybody based on their nationality. I guess things can get lost in translation.

This :-) And let's also remember we are in Thailand, where the stated reason ("we don't want farang")would be considered acceptable but: "We don't want him" would be considered rude and a loss of face for the player. (Even though I know the Norwegian player in question was clearly good enough).

I think that Chonburi like to have one or two foreign players within the squad. But I personally think they do not want to hire a foreign player just for the sake it. Their last (foreign) signings weren't really cracker.

After more than 20 years in Norwegian football I know that, but when a club gets the possibility to see and sign a "top" player, and that`s the answer I got, it sounded true. But I don`t know if this person has anything to do with Chonburi, or if the club was told about the player by this person. Maybe another Norwegian player will be looking for a club in TPL later this week. He has played for the national team in the past. Thai Port was the most professional club last time, so they will be contacted if he`s looking at Thailand, but 1 or 2 more clubs will also be contacted. Which clubs I don`t know yet.
