Very good report and a hearty thanks to the sharks for beating Thai Port - this sets us up nicely for our home game v Port on Saturday. The Pattaya game at Police was that awful a few of us discussed legging it over to Klong Toey for the second half but the rain and maybe a tad of common sense stopped us.
If anything, it proved that we are the better swimmers.

They didn't install two-tone blue seats for nothing. What's the location like compared with the Sports College Stadium?

They didn't install two-tone blue seats for nothing. What's the location like compared with the Sports College Stadium? It's to the south of the city so it's much better for me. However, whenever we've played there in the past, it has been a nightmare getting away. On the plus side, it's very close to Chonburi's main nightlife so there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area. Time alone will tell whether or not it turns out to be the right move. I just wish they'd settle on one place.

I reckon this stadium could be 'the one' for Chonburi: Proper seating, cover on two sides, modern main stand and plenty of room at both ends for future development.

We played against Tampines Rovers. This was also the time that it was being used for the Queen's Cup opening rounds. There was one stand - the one that is now two tier - and very little else.

That's a statistic that has always mystified me. Although it was noticeable that in the 2008 season a lot of teams employed very negative spoiling tactics when they came to our place(s). And we didn't seem to know how to break them down.

Watched most of the 2nd half on TV. Watching live, I thought Simpson had timed his run well for the 3rd 'goal'. On replay, it looked even worse for the linesman. It wasn't a 50-50 call, more like 30-70 that he got horribly wrong. Simpson wasn't even level, he was still in front of the defender when the ball was passed through.

If you're worried about too many PEA fans showing up, I've thought of a solution. from what I've gathered on here, Chonburi's owner has some....' influence'. To prevent a BG situation, perhaps Chonburi could organise some security to meet Newin's buses when they arrive early, hold the fans on the bus (at gunpoint if necessary), and with 5 minutes remaining before kick-off, escort them, one busload at a time, to their allocated seats. Once the away zone is full, keep the remaining fans on their buses to watch DVDs of Cha Cha Cha (not much of a punishment, I know). Only allow the remaining fans in, if the ground is not sold out.

There's a bit more to it than that, Loko. We shall see. From what I'm reading, it seems he might come if they're playing in Asia next season, and probably only if it's Champions' League. The salary being suggested seems a bit excessive too -36 million baht/year?

Chon 2 Buriram 0 after 30 minutes. A draw would be best for MTU but I can't stop myself cheering Chonburi in this one.

Really enjoyed reading that Shark -great article with loads of good points. Clubs like Chonburi have football at the heart of the club - ok they have a politician behind them but like at Pattaya, football is the priority. The sharks will have staying power and will keep going over the years. I think the Buriram phenomenon could well fade away somewhat after a couple of years- at the moment its Newin's play thing but if you look back at past endeavors he'll soon get bored. Maybe he'll prefer getting involved at Leicester City long term or maybe even running the country - 70% of their fans are totally clueless about football and just enjoy the dancing, free food and their "ang paow" - this cannot be said for the Chonburi fans. If you ask me the Chonburi model is the sustainable one.
I think we'll need to give the league around 5 years to settle down but I still think Chonburi are doing it the right way.

I echo what Glenn has said, even though both mine and Glenn's clubs haven't exactly gone about things the correct way either. Although I do disagree that I just can't see Buriram PEA or their 'fans' fading away, even if Newin does get bored. It's not just his money keeping the whole set-up going, they have a lot of sponsors on board too. Anyway, I'll be at the game later Dale, might see you around.

Agreed that we didn't do things the correct way in fact it might have been quite fun coming up through the leagues - maybe we'd have a better team spirit than we have at the moment!!
Let's see in 5 years if Buriram are still in the top three!!

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate that I have a very "English" approach to this but that's how I've been brought up. I guess someone from the USA might have a different perspective - unless they are a die hard Brooklyn Dodgers fan. I've said all along that Pattaya is a great place to have a football club but they should have started at the bottom and worked their way up. The point you make above, Glenn, is exactly the point I tried to make when they were fast tracked to the TPL. I know the reason why these things happen but it doesn't mean I have to agree with it. I'm genuinely proud of what we've acheived at Chonburi and especially proud that I have been a part of it. As for PEA, who knows? They certainly look like they are in it for the long haul and are a decent team. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

No problems at all as far as I'm aware. In fact, they actually brought fewer supporters than Muang Thong. There were certainly a couple of gaps both sides of the main body of fans.

AFC President to open Vision Chonburi League Chonburi: The much-anticipated Vision Chonburi League (VCL) will be officially launched by AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam on Saturday.
The AFC President is scheduled to arrive at the Chonburi Football Association (CFA) office at 1130, when he will sign a commemorative plaque and have a tour of the CFA headquarters.
After a group photo session at noon, the CFA will give a presentation on the history of football in the south-eastern province of Thailand and their activities since embracing Vision Asia and the challenges that lie ahead.
The presentation will be followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the AFC President, Football Association of Thailand (FAT) President Dato' Worawi Makudi and CFA President Vitaya Khunplome, after which a press conference will be held at the Central Plaza in Chonburi.
Bin Hammam and the delegation will then head to the Sansuk Stadium for the official opening ceremony of the Vision Chonburi League, with the historic first match scheduled to kick-off at 1600 in the presence of officials from the AFC, FAT, CFA, clubs and the media
The pioneering clubs for VCL are Muangchon United, Chon Chai Wanderers FC, Sattahip Borough FC, Siracha Athletics FC, Banglamung Rovers FC, Assum Novads FC, Banbueng FC and Ko Chan County FC.

C'mon you Rovers - I went to a few Banglamung games last year (there wasn't a Rovers tag) and the level of football wasn't too bad. Same old story though with kick offs being moved around - once had to wait two hours for a 4pm kick off at Nong Prue as there was a cremation going on at the temple! Maybe we can expect a bit more professionalism this time but then again... maybe not!

I'm not quite so keen. This is what I wrote on September 9th http://www.thaifootball.com/webboard/index.php?topic=10.msg11286#msg11286Then, if you follow the thread down, you can see we had a bit of fun thinking up other equally odd suffixes.
