Don't believe everything you read in the papers. Or everything you're told when hawking players to clubs. Wink

The management are certainly keen to continue to produce local players, and have gone on record elsewhere as saying that they will be looking at the quality of their overseas signings. However, they haven't ruled out signing anybody based on their nationality.

I guess things can get lost in translation.

I didn`t read it in a newspaper, but I was told by "you know who".Smiley
If they want farangs this season I don`t understand why they didn`t want the Norwegian striker on a trial. Maybe it was wrong time of the year to ask?

OK. Let me rephrase. Don't believe everything you're told when hawking players to clubs, especially when that person quotes a newspaper article. Smiley

After more than 20 years in Norwegian football I know that, but when a club gets the possibility to see and sign a "top" player, and that`s the answer I got, it sounded true. But I don`t know if this person has anything to do with Chonburi, or if the club was told about the player by this person.

Maybe another Norwegian player will be looking for a club in TPL later this week. He has played for the national team in the past. Thai Port was the most professional club last time, so they will be contacted if he`s looking at Thailand, but 1 or 2 more clubs will also be contacted. Which clubs I don`t know yet.

Left back on trial - former Fulham, Sheffield United player and Finnish international (49 caps according to Wikipedia) Tony Kallio.

Since august 2008 he has played 4 games for Fulham (2+2), 8 (8+0) games for Sheffield United and 1 (0+1) game for Viking in Norway. That`s only 13 (10+3) games in 30 months.
It does seem his game rate is low but why? There could be any number of reasons.
It shouldn't automatically discredit a player to have a low game rate. Chris Baird played about four games in four years for Southampton before Fulham (a division higher) signed him. We signed David Connolly with a similar game rate and he did very well for us.

But that's why he [Kallio]'s only on trial. If he's class, we'll sign him. If not, he can go.

Given that Piyachart was our left back throughout last season and we let him go, that tells me the club have something good in mind. It would be interesting to know if we have a recall clause on him though as our GM said he is "still in our tactical plans".

Kallio have possibly also played games for Viking`s reserves (level 3 in Norway) and for Fulham`s and Sheffield United`s reserves. But of course he might be a good player even if he has got only a few first team apperances in the last few years.

Ur.. SRS, I thought around here we need strikers who can finish not finnished strikers :-)

I've been saying for years that we need a natural finisher. I guess someone misunderstood. Wink

I was told you (Chonburi) didn`t want any farangs this season. Looks like that changed.

If you're referring to the Finnish lad, it is highly unlikely that we will be signing him. However, Chonburi don't have any such racist transfer policy. If a player is considered good enough, we will sign him regardless of race, creed, religion or colour.

The Finnish guy is on trial, but when I was trying to get a trial for the Norwegian Premier League striker I was told on November 6th by the contact:

"Chonburi want not a "Farrang" Coach and not Farrang players for the
next season (Manager Annop yesterday in the Siam Keerlar newspaper)."

As it seems most of the loan players from BU are to return to their clubs. For BGFC Wuttipong Kerdkul and Tanat  Wongsupphalak.

8 players has left BU, including a few loan players. 5 new players has arrived, including 2 goalkeepers.

It's all over for BKU as they draw 0-0 with Army.

Yes, the season has finally ended. Now we have to get ready for the start of next season in D1.

In 17 games (league, cup & play-off) vs the bottom 7 TPL-teams we did not win any games this season.

Songkhla 0 - 2 Bangkok United

After 2 matches : Army 6pts, BU 3pts, Songkhla 0pts

Songkhla need a miracle now.

If BU don`t beat Army in the next game on monday, it`s all over. Will the last 2 games still be played if Army already has won the group?

If you need to stop at Siam, Siam BTS is linked to NS BTS by bridge so you can walk it.

Are you sure about that t_e?

I'm fairly certain I've tried that in the past to save changing trains, and been sadly disappointed. Then I had to do one of Vinnie's 'improving' walks. Sad

You can walk, but you need to go into Siam Discovery, change floors, and get out another exit again. Or you can walk down on the street and up the stairs again at the junction.
In other words: Take the BTS to National Stadium Station.Smiley

David May?!?! Cheesy

David May did never play in any CL-finals.

The team from 99:
Peter Schmeichel, Gary Neville, Jaap Stam, Ronny Johnsen, Denis Irwin, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, David Beckham, Jesper Blomqvist, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke and, of course, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

I can`t see it beeing any of the players from other United-finals.

I dunno any of them. I even can't remember there was CL Final in 1999.

I remember, and it was GREAT! Grin Grin Grin

Our mate Tor confirms the expansion and playoffs here http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/sports/203357/muang-thong-aiming-to-reign-abroad

It looks to me that it`s decided, but it won`t be confirmed officially until the end of november.

For the clubs involved it won`t be easy to plan for next season, due to the fact that they won`t know before december some time what Division they are playing in next season, if there will be a play-off.
How to talk with both current and new players? "We might play in TPL next season, but we don`t know for sure for 6-8 weeks yet." 16 clubs already knows they are playing in TPL in 2011, and they have an advantage in signing players for next season.

22  Thaifootball / Leagues & Clubs / Re: TPL 2010 on: October 24, 2010, 12:24:20 AM
The proposal to increase the number of teams in TPL from 16 to 18 next season includes a play-off.
After what I understand from BU-supporters, team number 16 in TPL will play team number 5 in Division 1, and number 15 will play number 6.
The 2 winners will then go into a draw where one of them will play number 14 from TPL and the other will play number 4 from Division 1. The winners from those 2 games will then play in TPL 2011.

The proposal can be found here (in thai):
http://www.siamsport.co.th/Sport_Football/101023_008.html

There will be the same play-off for the extra spots in Division 1, but since we don`t know what teams will finish third in the Division 2 play-off before christmas, it will be january before we know all the teams who are playing in Division 1 in 2011.
Let`s hope alle games are played before the season starts! Grin

The games (if decided to increase the number of teams):

Army or Bangkok United vs Nakhon Pathom
Bangkok United or Army vs Air Force

Sisaket vs the winner of Army or Bangkok United vs Nakhon Pathom
Songkhla vs the winner of Bangkok United or Army vs Air Force

Updated!
There will be no draw. The winner of game between No 16 TPL and No 5 D1 will play Sisaket.
The winner of game between No 15 TPL and No 6 D1 will play Songkhla.

This means it will propably be easier games for the team who finishes 15th in TPL than for the team who finishes 16th, so there might be a lot to play for in the last TPL-round today.

Maxime has done very well at BU! I don`t expect him to play for us next season. A few teams will propably try to get him, and all clubs have been told they can contact any of our players if they want. BU are cutting the squad from 33 players to 25 next seson.

Yes it will be eighteen teams next season.

no matter what? I mean 18, regardless the AFC assesment?

considering the immediate effect... what are the promotion/relegation rules? I hope it will be 4 go up and 2 go down. Also it means Division 1 need another 2 teams from the Div 2 Champions league play off, top 3 from both groups?

I hope it will be three up and three down. Moving the goalposts at this stage is completely ridiculous. If they want to increase the number of clubs in the TPL, then they should announce it at the START of the season. And stick to it.

I agree with you! Unless, of course, it`s 1 down and 3 up.Smiley

Proposal to expand TPL to 18 teams in 2011 (www.siamsport.co.th). Possible reprieve for some of those teams in the relegation zone?

Not necessarily, I heard the the 2 extra places will just go to the highest bidders... joke Wink Wink

I can't find the article in question you mentioned Vinnie, but seriously WTF... How are teams supposed to know what the hell to aim for if the goalposts are moved 1 week before or even after the season has finished.

Rayong fans went crazy and celebrated like they had just stayed up yesterday with a full fireworks display and everything, but they are not yet safe if it's 3 down 3 up, unless they know something we don't.

I heard last week the proposal is 2 down and 4 up, but these talks about expanding the TPL started before the season started.
They should keep it like it is, because it`s crazy to change it when the season has ended. If they want an expanded TPL they should change it from the 2012-season, with everyone knowing about it before they start in 2011.
Or just change it now with only 1 team going down, so Bangok United can stay up.Smiley

BU-supporters now say they don`t use H2H this season, but goal difference.
Wikipedia also says goal difference.

And yes the point is that the official TPL site don't care about H2H, and using GD.

The Rule book is there for DL. But it is all in Thai. So no chance for me.

It do not matter to us vs Rayong, unless the away goal count for something in the 2 draws, but Army and Sisaket can end up on 29 points as well, and we loose H2H vs both of them.

We have to win our 2 last games (both at home vs TOT and SS) by a few goals, and Rayong has to loose both of their games (BG at home and Army away).

If Army is not relegated before the last game, we probably are, because Army play Rayong in the last game and we can not beat both of them on goal difference (or H2H), unless we win by 9 goals more than Army in their last games. We also need to better 9 goals vs Rayong, but they get at least 2 goals worse off than now if they loose, so we may need "only" 7 or less.

OK it's optimistic but I guess it's within the realms of possibility that BG will stick three or four past Rayong and TOT are a poor side. If you win that 3-0 then there could be everything to play for.
Like I said, optimistic but not impossible.

Yeah, but when are BG going to Singapore again?  I`ll guess that`s their priority now. I don`t know if they care about beeing number 4 or 5 in the league.

It has been looking like we`re going down for a long time now, but still it`s a possibility to stay up, with only 2 more games to play. We got 11 points in the first half of the season, and we have 12 so far in the second. I`m sure we beat TOT next weekend, so if Bangkok Glass can beat Rayong it won`t be decided before the last game, unless Army beat both Buriram and Thai Port.

The goal difference is 8 goals, but because Rayong have scored a lot (7) more, we are 9 goals behind, in addition to those 6 points.

Huge result for Svein's boys as BKU win away to Pattaya and Sisaket and Police both lose.
Yep, but Rayong beat Police, so I think BKK UTD are gone... sorry Svein

Yes, I just looked at the table and they are six points behind with two games to go and no way back unless BKU have the H2H advantage over Navy, which I doubt.
Sorry Svein, I'd rather BKU stayed up than Navy. If Raj stay up then I'll see you at the game next season.

They are also 6 behind TTM but cannot take them on H2H.
They have 2 draws with Navy, so it would come down to GD which they are 8 worse off.
So unfortunately for them, it's all over.

However, their sing sang, was more than annoying.

He should have handed out some thai shirts. When I got to the stadium it looked like a Buriram game.

I think their "sing sang" was good.

I think there were more VIPs at today`s game than at an ordinary thai national game. A few good looking cars, specially a black Rolls Royce with some thai letters and the number 8 only, on the licenseplate. Tainted windows, so I could not see who sat inside, and it had a police escort.

He was at Thai Port v Chonburi midweek.

I have seen him and Darby at Thai-Japanese this season. I think it was vs TTM.

As a person I like Bryan Robson very much. I have met him a few times at Manchester United Restaurant & Pub in Sukhumvit Soi 11, and he is always happy to talk with fans (I`m a United-fan).

As a manager he could possible have done better in the clubs he`s been at, as his record isn`t that good, but they were not big clubs and I don`t know if he got money for the players he wanted.

I do not think he can be judged on his Thailand job yet. He just got the job a few weeks before the games vs Singapore, and he could not see the players in the league for many months, except for 1 game in the last round of the 2009-season.

As said by others here, he also works for Manchester United and stays outside the country for some time. How much time I don`t know, but I have heard that he`s been at MU R&B many times when I haven`t, so he is clearly in Thailand a lot too. That`s part of his work at United to be at their locations around he world.

Possibly the best match in that time frame could be Customs v Chiang Rai scheduled for 23rd at Latkrabang.

Is that the "big" stadium next to the highway just after the exit to Suvarnabhumi airport? (I`m using Google Earth)

It's close to it.

So who are playing at the one I talk about? It looks like a good stadium from "above", but it`s far from the stand to the pitch. Both running tracks and an area with grass between the pitch and the stand.

There`s been a picture or two of me in there too, but I have never seen it. Only been told by people who have seen me there. But I have found many pictures on different websites the last year. Fans from different teams has also asked to take pictures with me. Have no idea why!  Huh?

And yet again there are new dates for some games:

October 8th: Muangthong vs Army

October 10th: Samut vs Sisaket, Police vs Rayong, Pattaya vs Bangkok United

October 11th: Thai Port vs TTM, BEC vs Muangthong

October 13th: Chonburi vs TOT, Army vs Buriram, Osotspa vs Bangkok Glass

October 14th: BEC vs Thai Port, Muangthong vs TTM

First they move all games from the weekend to the next midweek, and now they move some of them back again.

Interesting news for fans of any of the top 3 teams  on the all new muangthongunitedfc.blogspot.com twitter feed:

http://twitter.com/MTUTD_blog

Well I have to promote it somehow :-)

Is that true? If so, what a pile of crap. Clubs are now dictating when fixtures are played in order to drum up some sort of interest?

This season has seen things hit an all time low. It's becoming even more of a farce.

Sorry I can't get it. Does it mean that the matches from PEA and CFC will be switched between matchday 29 and 30?

This do not sound possible to me, it`s no time to move the other games. And Buriram already has one postponed game, now scheduled to be played in the last midweek of the season.

Ok, so I might be asking a naive question that has an obvious answer, but I honestly do not know the reason for it...

Why is the league season played from March - Oct??

I'm assuming it is to do with the AFC Asian Cup and the Suzuki Cup tournaments..?

On the surface, there is no logic to it at all, starting the league at the hottest time of the year and playing through the rainy season, with the season climax and most important games taking place on pitches not fit to host a mud wrestling competition.

Not to mention the fans (and therefore money) that keep away during these conditions.

Surely a Sept-March season would be better.

It would also mean when Thailand host the world cup the season would not be disrupted  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I also think it would be much better to play September - March, but without rain for a few month there could be very dry and hard pitches around. But to start the season in the hottest time of the year, and then have daily rain for a few month is not any better.

You also mention money they loose when fans stay away due to the conditions. If they were playing September - March they would be playing in the high season for tourists, and at least some of the teams could be getting lots more farang fans.

Anyway, the season should be longer in Thailand. A 3-months break between seasons should be enough, but they could have a 3-4 weeks break half way through the season.
In Norway we play March - November, not possible to play longer because of the winter, but here it`s shorter and hot all the time.

When are the season played in the neighboring countries?

Sorry Svein66, but BU were absolutely dreadful and only about 40 BU fans bothered to make the short journey. Considering it was an important game for you and we fielded a weakened team, I really thought we would have to work hard. It was probably our easiest win of the season, barring Rayong.

Easiest win of the season? Well, you were gifted the first 3 goals from our goalkeeper, the first one after 65 minutes, and he didn`t have a lot to do before that. I think he thought it was christmas already. He was absolutely horrible in the last 25 minutes!!

We should have made it 1-0 early in the 2nd half, but that`s been our problem (one of them) this season, not to take our chances, and then our goalkeeper threw it away (another one of our problems). He`s a good goalkeeper and has saved us a few times, but he has also cost us a few points. He`s given away at least 8-10 goals so far this season, 3 of them yesterday.

40 fans away from home is not much, but when we only have 150-200 at home it`s not much more to expect. I think someone stayed away because of the bad weather 1-2 hours before the match, and it was also shown on NBT so it was easy to stay home. I did.

I do not know a thing about Singapore Cup, or what it means for the teams who are playing in it, but good luck to you anyway!

For us, we have to win our last 3 games and hope Rayong don`t get more than 3 points from their last 4 games. But of course, this won`t happen and we`re playing in Division 1 next season.Sad

Do Chiang Rai United use the Chiang Rai Provincial Stadium for their homegames?
I`m trying to add all teams stadiums into Google Earth.Smiley

I may be jumping to conclusions but is Sisaket hard core red shirt territory per chance?

I don't think you are jumping to conclusions. They hired a hell of a lot of police for our game last Sunday because Pathum Thani is predominantly Red's. I don't know the exact number, but I've never seen a police presence like it before at an English match, let alone a Thai match.

Khun Pavin had a few choice words for Buriram and is praying that if we do get past Chonburi in the Toyota, that we do not meet 'The Buriram Circus' again this season.

I think maybe the extra police presence is because of the extra security in Bangkok these days. We had some police too at our game. Or maybe it was because we played Thai Port?

The original scheduled league-cup dates:
3rd round: October 6 and 13
QF: October 31 and November 6
SF: November 13 and 20
F: November 27

They're going to run into problems with the 3rd round - at this stage, there is one 2nd round game on the 4th, and another on the 6th, plus another 4 matches to be scheduled.

The 13th is now a round of TPL games that have been rescheduled from the 9th/10th because of the Leicester game (and Port & TTM were already supposed to play a catch-up game on this date)

I think they will move the 3rd round to October 20 and 27.
Maybe we should have both cup-finals at the start of next season? Grin
