MTU 1 SP 1 A good game spoilt by ridiculous levels of cheating by the away team and another set of terrible, incompetent and weak minded officials. Mini-report up later.
Isn't that expected from an RL side against the TPL Champs? They got the result they wanted. They go home in their eyes as winners after that draw. But that doesn't make it right or any easier to accept for fans of the other team does it? And as Vinnie said, SP have a reputation for being nasty and they lived up to it. Even in Thailand, there are some refs who don't put up with such nonsense, but yesterday they just caved in. To be fair, when SP tried to play football, they did so very well.

Well the home game was Nonthaburi's 'Alamo'. A draw would have been a great moral victory. They so nearly made it, too. Still they can take heart from their performances despite the results and Bg can take heart that they played well and still have a trophy to aim for.

Raj are facing Roi Et in a game that I couldn't get to because it was a 4pm kick off (but looks like it was switched to 5pm without notice).
Roi Et were 1-0 up for ages but Raj have just equalised on the 76th minute.
And a huge rainstorm has just started!

And BG fans are certainly no trouble. They were very honorable on Sunday, their allocation sold out way before Eka's but the excess BG fans simply stayed around the pitch and did not try to come in the home end.
They also did their homework; instead of the usual swapping of scarves or shirts, they gave the home fans a big bottle of beer!!
I did an interview with some BG fans before the game. However, I'd just realised I'd lost my ATM card (I've since found it) so I was distracted. They asked me to give a message to BG man so I said "Good to see you again but I hope we beat you today!". Obviously that was before I realised Andy wasn't there :-)

It shouldn't be Newin banning the players, it should be the FA. Of course, we know that is not the way it works in reality.
EDIT: I see they got fined 4000 baht each. That'll learn them eh? Pathetic.

** Nonthaburi V BG Highlights: http://rajprachafc.blogspot.com/2010/08/nonthaburi-fc-vs-bangkok-glass.html** Did BG play a full strength team? Byrne, Sylla and their first choice goalie all played. The only missing party I noticed was that tricky little number nine, but I don't know their squad very well. Nonthaburi 0 BG 2 - report to follow.
Nonthaburi's ground was quite close for you to attend today, right? It's not too far from the Thunderdome and is slightly closer to me, though in terms of travel time, Thepsadin/Supalachasalai is almost the same as I can get there with just one bus. The only ground that I could really say is near my home is Rajpracha's Nonthaburi Provincial Stadium, and of course they are not using that right now. Fingers crossed for next season :-)

The rematch in the league against PEA on 9th October will be a tasty affair. I'll have to go along and get a ringside seat.
Yeh I might go to that if no other games are on. At least there's never a problem getting tickets for that stadium :-)

TOT are like the visiting circus. No matter which province they end in, they will end up going back to BKK.
How can any fan from another province really count them as there own if they knocked on there doorstep?
TOT already have a home that they don't use. Why go and step on someone else's shoes? Why not try a province without a team first?
They played a friendly in their own stadium last week apparently.

Bangkok United will not play any more games this season at the Thai-Japanese Stadium! The rest of the games in 2010 is moved to Bangkok University in Rangsit. The main reason is that the pitch won`t be playable again this season because of this week`s rugby tournament at the stadium. And of course: We won vs Buriram in the stadium at Bangkok University, and we have not won any TPL-games at Thai-Japanese for 15 months. I wonder if I can get the money for my season ticket back. What a way to dump on all the fans that stood by them during a tough season! Who got to overrule the football team with the rugby match?

I don't want to seem like I'm having a go but it's these constant incidents of flying kicks, walk-offs, etc. that is, and has been, holding back the development of football in Thailand for more than a decade.
Hopefully, FAT will make an example of these players, but they probably won't. But is it fair to make an example of them when others have got off lightly. Yes. Two wrongs don't make a right and the reason they do this is due to arrogance of thinking the TFA are soft.

To answer BKK, I personally recommended Kawin to Alan Pardew but I don't think I was taken seriously. That may yet prove to be Southampton FC's loss. We have Kelvin Davies - experienced player with good leadership and Bartez Bartowski - a very reliable and talented young backup. Kawin could have become third choice and developed his game at Southampton FC which is very good at raising young players.
'Keepers I have seen play regularly: Tim Flowers, Chris Woods, Dave Beasant, Bruce Grobbelaar (Now there's a goalie who would enjoy playing in Thailand!), Kelvin Davies and Annti Niemi. Kawin has the potential to be as good as any of them.
I agree it could be overwhelming for him to move to a big club, that's why I thought he'd be better off signing for a strong L1 side. With regards to weather and language, he can adjust. he's young and well grounded. He can speak reasonable English already.
Keep January in mind as the European transfer window.

I've just watched it again and there are three people who launch kicks. Two are definitely PEA players and the third is wearing a green vest with blue shorts and he appears to kick a PEA player. They should all receive lengthy bans for a start.
And the two Buriram players who do so are nasty little weasels who try and run back into the fray to hide their identity straight after their sneak attack. At least the Army FC player - wrong though he was - didn't try to hide.

This is all hypothetical anyway, cos I'm 95% certain it wont happen... and I agree with all that you have said but I don't understand why we should be grateful that any bid was rejected...
Why???
Maybe we wouldn't have him for long, but whoever the club is that owns him before he moves to Europe is going to get a nice little transfer fee out of it.
What I was trying to say was that IMHO Kawin would only be moving for a quick pay off before moving on again very quickly, so i was guessing that while BG fans would be happy with the move, they might be saddened later when it became obvious his heart wasn't in it. Surely we only want 100% committed players in our teams?

If Bryan Robson thinks Kawin is good enough for Europe, then I think I'll have some of what he's been drinking ... although I doubt there is much left!
Kawin stands out in the TPL, but let's not get carried away. I seriously doubt he would get into a Championship team in England and therefore his chances of making it in Europe are limited. He'll find it hard to get a work permit unless he can force his way into a fairly decent team in Europe as 'first choice' keeper.
It would be nice if it happened, but he's barely 6'0" and he'll get found out playing against bigger strikers and centre halfs week in week out. He's roughly the same height as Shay Given, but having watched Given at Sunderland for half of the 95-96 season, I can tell you that Kawin is miles behind.
Kawin is a very good keeper at this level, but remember that he's playing against players that are mostly League 1 standard at best. As a keeper he's got more time on his side than players in other positions, but I'd fancy his chances more of making it in the Vietnamese, Australian or Japanese league ... unless by European we are talking about Luxembourg, Andorra or the Faroe Islands.
Anyway, all that said, good luck to Kawin and any Thai player who can at least stimulate Robbo's remaining brain cells. He was stood as motionless as a Marks & Spencer mannequin at the Singapore game.
Keep those words nice and fresh Mackem, you might just be eating them early next year! Robson has already suggested Kawin to Man Utd and having watched Kawin for a large number of games I can assure you he is more than good enough. He is 6ft 1in - taller than Hans Segars - and also has excellent positioning, awareness, handling, reactions and command of his area. He lacks in no area and he also has an excellent upbringing on and off the pitch.

I'd be interested to know why Raj's game kicked off at 1800 on a Wednesday. I'm sure it bumped at least 30% off the attendance figure. When we played Sriracha in the league (on a Saturday) they filled their stand, this time it was less than half full.

Have BG gone all Real Madrid on us?
Club manager Supasin Lilareut has stated that the club would like to sign Kawin Thamasatchanan & Teerasil Daengda (MTU), Suthinan Pukhom (Chonburi), and Georgi (TOT) for next season, although "we do not know whether we'll be able to have talks with these players"
We have already had one bid rejected for Kawin, and if the figure I have heard that we bid is true, I cannot see us going higher than that for a 2nd bid. Let's be realistic: Kawin is too good for the Thai league. A move to BG would be a sideways move at best and there are some very large clubs sniffing around him. Any move to BG would be short term and done simply simply for a quick cash in so in that sense, Glass should be grateful that any bid was rejected.

RE: Toyota Cup game v Nontaburi. The good news is it is still going ahead at Nontaburi's stadium. BUT (worryingly) they are putting up a temporary stand to house the extra fans.... Latest news: general manager at Nonthaburi says he's heard nothing of a plan to build a temporary stand. Still states it's 400 seats for each side. I can't get any sense out of anyone regarding how to get a ticket. So I'll just turn up early and hope for the best. If I don't get in, I'll rush to Thepsadin and watch MTU.

OK the report is on my blog, here's just a few summarising points -
- As expected: masses upon masses of people in the same shirt.
- New experience - being recognised from my football blog by a non-Quilin. Several people seemed to take offence to my North Korea comment and it seems possible I was misquoted on it. One fan mention you by name too, Dale :-)
- Security didn't seem so bad to me. The confiscations seem bizarre and pointless, though.
- Terrible waterlogging of the pitch made the game scrappy.
- There really are now words to describe the ref. I noticed Pattaya fans reported a bizarre second half with the ref in their game at Buriram, too.
- Buriram probably deserved the win though.
- Like Andy, I find it hard to know what to make of the whole Buriram experience, it's all very unique and slightly surreal. I just want to get even with them.

Torn between going to watch Wednesday's game at Muangthong and Thai Port v TOT. I presume BKK Glass have sold out their allocation for the game at Muangthong, so don't really fancy sitting with the Muangthong fans If I can get a ticket for the BKK Glass end I will go, otherwise it will be down to Klong Toey for the slightly earlier kick-off at 5pm. If you want me to get you a ticket, I can if you like? Michael Byrne is playing quite far forward. It seems, as he hinted in my interview with him, that is the reason he left Chonburi, because he couldn't play there for them. Offer of getting a ticket appreciated, but I think I'll nip down to Klong Toey on Wednesday to watch Thai Port, but I'll be up at the Leo Stadium on Saturday with BKK73 to watch the game against Pattaya. No probs, hope to see you guys on Sat then. I'll be the one who isn't dressed up as a bunny ... can't speak for BKK73 though! Byrne played in a really deep position against Muangthong. I thought that he was pretty ineffective playing in that position. He should have been further up the pitch supporting Ajayi. Anyway, we'll see how he gets on today. I'll be at the game with Bkk Mackem. Look out for a strange looking mackem and a Scottish guy with a pint of Leo. That'll be us. Saw you both at the TD.

As for Thailand, happy enough to go along and watch any local sides playing in stadiums with a decent bit of atmosphere and a football ground rather than a multi-purpose stadium with a running track around the pitch ... which leaves Thai Port, Bangkok Glass and Muangthong at the moment.

Good and fair match report Greg We did exactly the same against Chonburi on their patch... We really need a top goal scorer badly. btw... yes, the reason Moussa didn't play was contractual How many fans does the North End hold... We were pretty tightly packed in (but not so much so that it dangerous).. It made for a great atmosphere. And your Buriram preview was a good read too... interesting comments from the Pattaya fan. Every one of us who has been there has said EXACTLY the same thing now.. Thanks mate! Not sure about the capacity of the NS.
