The modern Rajamangala
National Stadium will play host to the opening ceremony and the Final
of the FIFA Women's U-19 World Championship, as well as the tournament's
first two clashes and the third place match. It forms part of the Thai
Sports Authority's impressive Sports Complex, an area which also
includes a basketball court, two swimming pools, several adjacent
pitches, gyms, various indoor courts and a conference hall.
Built in 1998 and with a
capacity of 65,000, the Rajamangala is spectacularly designed, with
spacious semicircular stands, one of them covered, along the sides and
smaller terracing at each end. The field of play measures 105 m. by 68
m. The stadium has a video scoreboard and boasts one of the best
floodlighting systems in the region.
The pitch, which is
separated from the crowd by an athletics track and an additional
security zone, has hosted a good many international events, the 18 th
Asian Games in 1998 a prominent example.
