The hosts shot ahead through Abdullah Shehan in the 41st minute before Abdullah Jumaas made it 2-0 in the 50th minute. Thailand struck back to reduce the deficit through the nippy Tananchai Boriban eight minutes later.

But Saudi were not taking any chances and continued to push and in their efforts to increase the scoreline, they were awarded a penalty which star Sami Al Jaber converted. Ibrahim Mater sealed it for the hosts in the 73rd minute.

Saudi topped the group with 17 points from eight matches while Iran were second with 15. Bahrain and Iraq were third and fourth with 10 and seven points apiece. Thailand propped up the group with four points from four drawn ties.
