Kiatisak nets two as Thais finish third

Thai skipper Kiatisak nearly opened the scoring after two minutes but was denied by a fine save from Qatar goalkeeper Hussin Alromihi.

Kiatisak notched his first goal of the tournament in the 16th minute when strike partner Sakesan Pituratana crossed from the left and Zico was there to score.

In the 28th minute, Thai defender Chukiat Noosalung had a "goal" disallowed and then goalkeeper Phansa Meesathum was alert to deny Walid Hamza in the 38th minute.

Zico headed narrowly wide just a minute into the second half after a cross from Tananchai Boriban.

Choketawee Promrat then had a 25-metre shot well saved by Qatar's goalkeeper Hussin Alromihi before Kiatisak scored his second.

A corner from Sakesan Pituratana came to Tawan Sripan who set up Zico to shoot home from 10 metres.

There was a fair degree of bad feeling between the two sides and in the 75th minute Qatar's Meshal Abdulla had to be taken to hospital when he was left unconscious after crashing into a Thai player.

Thai head coach Peter Withe said: "Kiatisak showed today by scoring two goals that he is maybe the best player in Southeast Asia at the moment.
