Thailand beaten 3-1 in final warm-up

Thailand's national team finished their World Cup warm-up in England yesterday suffering a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Town reserves at the Terriers training ground.

It was a scrappy match played in difficult conditions on a muddy pitch.

The only bright spot for Thailand was the goal scored by Kiatisak 'Zico' Senamuang against his former club which had rejected him earlier in the season.

Chris Hay opened the scoring for Huddersfield in the 13th minute but Kiatisak equalised from a cross by Voravudh Srimakha. At half-time the score was 1-1.

Ten minutes into the second half Chris Senior made it 2-1 after a mix-up in the Thai defence and Adam Fowler struck in the 76th minute with a fine 25-yard shot to make it 3-1.

The game got a bit bad tempered towards the end and defender Choketawee Promrat was sent off after punching Huddersfield's Paul Macgally.

After the match, Thailand's English coach, Peter Withe admitted his team did not play well in what was a poor match.

"One of our staff coaches, Pongsatorn Permpanich had to be a linesman while the other linesman was a Huddersfield player," he said.

"The pitch was terrible," said Withe. "If I had known it was in such a bad state we would not have played."In earlier matches Thailand defeated Liverpool reserves 2-1 and drew with Middlesbrough reserves 1-1.
