Thai team confident of advancing (February 09, 2007)

Thailand's pre-Olympic team are confident they will advance into the next qualifying round after defeating Turkmenistan 1-0 away in the first leg on Wednesday. The Thai team are still in Ashgabat and are hoping to get a flight to Bangkok today.

The return leg is at the Supachalasai stadium in Bangkok next Wednesday.

If Thailand advance they will face a tough match against either Iraq or North Korea in the next qualifying round.

Team manager Kasem Jariyawatwong said Thailand were lucky they played the match in Turkmenistan on Wednesday because yesterday the weather turned really bad with cold rain and wind which would have been a problem for the Thai team.

''I am confident we will win the return leg, but we will not underestimate our opponents,'' he said.

Concerning the next round he said he didn't mind which team Thailand faced. ''We have been preparing for two years and can give anybody a good game,'' he said.
